    Cherry Pie
1 recipe pie crust - below
2 red plums, pitted (I used prune baby food)
2.5 lbs fresh or frozen cherries, thawed
    1/2 cup sugar
    2T instant tapioca
    1T lemon juice
    2t bourbon (optional)
    1/8 tsp salt
    1/8 tsp cinnamon
2T butter, cut into small pieces
1 large egg, beaten with a splash of water
Make pie crust - process or cut together 20T butter, cold with 2.5 cups flour, 2T sugar and 1t salt. Add 1/2 cup ice water until dough forms. Roll out and press into pie plate.
For filling, process 1 cup cherries with plums. Add to cherries and add sugar through cinnamon. Let filling sit for 15 mins to thicken. Add filling to bottom crust and top with butter. Top with crust. Brush with egg wash. Bake at 400 for 30 mins, reduce oven to 350 and bake for 35-50 mins longer until golden brown. Cool before cutting.
    Banana Cream Pie:
    3/4 cup sugar
    1/4 cup cornstarch
    3 cups milk
    4 egg yolks
    1T butter
    1.5 tsp vanilla
    1 tsp banana extract (Optional)
    baked pastry shell
    whipped cream
    3 sliced bananas
Process or cut together 1 1/4 cups flour, 1/4 tsp salt and 1/3 cup shortening. Add 3-4T cold water. Roll out and press into pie plate. Prick with fork, bake at 450 for 10 mins. Cool.
In medium saucepan, combine sugar and cornstarch, whisk in milk. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly. Reduce heat and cook for 2 more minutes. Temper egg yolks with hot mixture, whisk in egg yolks. Slice 2 bananas into pastry shell and top with filling. Refrigerate until completely cool. Top with whipped cream and more sliced banana.

Wow. I need a nap just watching you do all the things! Have you considered putting the turkey and brine bag in an ice chest? Just check the ice now and then to make sure things are staying cold.
I appreciate the recipes you included. I love a good cherry pie!
If you mix the egg yokes into the milk, you can add everything at the same time. No tempering needed.

Hi Jen! Refrigerating your dough for a little prior to rolling out may have helped a bit. The good thing about pie dough is you can just squish it together and it still works. I’ve never used shortening though..so what do I know lol. I’ve always just used cold butter. Great job!

Woohoo long video by Jen!! I would be running around like a chicken with my head cut off if I cooked all of that. Great variety you fixed for Thanksgiving. We made turkey and dumplings last year with leftover turkey it was so delicious. This year we had leftover ham and we made split pea soup which is also delicious. Have a great day/ evening and week Jen, Adam, and kids.

I did a wet brine for turkey for years but this year I did a dry brine and it worked wonderfully without the mess of keeping a large turkey in a wet solution. The texture of the meat was even better with the dry brine. My favorite pie crusts are half shortening and half butter. Cheers!

I'm always amazed at the size of your grocery hauls, even before needing to test recipes for your cookbook. I don't know how you store all the food! My mom always uses the butter flavored Crisco for her pie crust and also uses the Betty Crocker crust recipe. I would recommend refrigerating the dough at least for a couple of hours before rolling it out, that’s how we’ve always done it and have never had issue.

I had that problem with my stuffing years ago. Don't use the herb anything bread. I use white bread and granny smith apple along with red apple and I also use a little of the corn english muffins. I course grind them in the food processor. I also use a few golden raisins along with the cranberries. If you make a stock of the gizzard with only onions it will complement the other ingredients in your stuffing very well. It will be savory and sweet.

My Mom also made carrot cake with baby food every Christmas when I was growing up. One year there was no baby food carrots at the grocery store and it was Christmas Eve so she substituted with baby food squash instead and it tasted just as good. My mother has been gone 20 years and I've never made carrot cake because my family doesn't care for it. However, I have my Mom's old cookbook with the recipe and her hand written notes about replacing the carrots with baby food. Precious memories! Thanks for all your sharing and I'm very excited about Vlogmas. :-)

Mason jars used to be sold as canning and freezing jars. Fill to the shoulder. They stopped advertising them as freezing when they came out with a line of plastic freezer containers. I have always put mine in the freezer. I buy yeast in bulk and put it in quart jars in the freezer. That yeast expired 5 years ago. You take it out and it's still good.

Happy December! Not finished watching, but wanted to mention before I forget that the cheesecloth soaked in butter and wine is a Martha Stewart recipe that I have used for going on 20 years. Always had excellent luck with it and I hope you did, too. Now, back to watching so I can find out. 🙂 ETA: got to the end and your Turkey turned out great . I am glad you live the MS method as much as I have over the years. I will do ham for Christmas and want to try the cranberry salsa recipe with it. Everything was amazing and your family is lucky to have you. The resemblance between Connor and Elijah is incredible, they could be twins. Is Elijah from your husband's side of the family or yours? Thanks for a great start to Vlogmas! Hope you will show your Christmas decorating.

When I make dressing for Thanksgiving or Christmas I make it from cornbread. I also use shredded chicken breast for the meat in the dressing. I use my moms recipe (that has passed away) and as far as I know I don’t think she got it from anyone other then her own mother that passed it down from her mother etc. I’m not sure, so don’t quote me on it. Lol. We use cornbread, shredded chicken breast, onion, celery, boiled eggs, rubbed and ground sage and chicken broth. It’s sooo good!
I’ve been wanting to start my own channel and have it focused on cooking and cleaning motivation but my family and I will be moving soon into a new house at the beginning of the new year. So I don’t want to get something as time consuming as a RUclips channel with us moving so soon. Because I know from what I’ve heard, RUclips can take a lot of your time to learn and get used to.
Watching this video though...just made me so hungry. And I’ve been eating Thanksgiving dinner Thursday and it’s Sunday. 😳 *sigh*
Anyway, you nailed...again!!! You always nail it!!! You’re very inspiring with all the cooking and meal prepping you do for your own family. I know you just do it for your family but there’s more to it then that and I love how you always seem to speak your mind. Again...so inspiring! I love it 🥰. Please keep up the amazing content. 🤩😍🥰💕❤️🙌🏻😁😄
