It's nice to see that what I found to be a pain in the ass job on my Transit is a pain in the ass job on any Transit.
Really enjoyed the video bought back some good memories of welding with my dad a Morris Marina in the mid 80s I was in my early 20s at the time. Ended up getting arc- eyes it was not a pleasant experience at the time. Its amazing how all the equipment has improved since then. The southampton produced transit must have been dripped in the solent before they were painted.
I replaced the suspension top mountings on a Ford Zodiac myself in my early 20s using a hired Arc Welder and ended up with a visit to A&E thought I had got bit of metal in both eyes from working on rust under the car but it turned out to be Arc Eye which I'd never even heard of at the time. Blooming painful 😵💫😭
True grit, your dad taught you a lesson.
Leon thats a very good 'fix' indeed. Have used larger spanners to help form repair panels myself if you don't have a specific tool you have to 'think outisde the box' and improvise just likr you did here. Good Man!!
Hope your back gets better soon Leon
Nice Job mate. It's nice to have it up on the ramp, the only welding I've done on sills and underneath, cars always been up on drive up floor ramps and I've been lying on my side. I always keep a co2 fire extinguisher that I use to put the fires out that seem to always start.
I just made up the bottom of the nearside inner stiffener that is near the rear edge of the sliding door. It's like a round cornered box that runs down vertically on the outer face of the inner sill ( if that makes any sense ) The new one I made has a much larger drain.
@@nexpro6985 nice job mate
This was definitely the best thing I watched on Christmas day Leon 👌🏻
Nice work 👍
Nice welder, you sure like good quality toys Leon 😊👍
Great workmanship Leon.Hope your back pain goes away forever 🤞🙏and hope you had or having Great Christmas and very happy prosperous New 2024🎉
Also the video was enjoyable to watch 👌Great work too👌👍if i was the owner of that van I'll go extra mile and have the underbody cleaned, sprayed and sealed.
I always throw a poundshop heat pad on my back on cold mornings
good job
Every one does the job differently but as long as it’s welded and not filled with expanding foam 😂 it’s all good , I’ve been welding cars for over 42 years and an mot tester for over 36 years , I’ve not seen it all yet but they all turn up eventually for test 😂
I can believe it. You might be able to answer a few questions for me as a tester. Are you allowed to put holes in people's vehicles? Also, if you watch some more of my videos. A few people are saying these will not pass the test Because I did not well all the way around. Where when you do panels near wheelarches and return lips. It is impossible to world all the way around. Even the factory does not do this. As I'm sure you're well aware. These repairs have passed 2 tests and I know they will pass a test. What is your opinion on this
Saved. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice.
What about welding proof primer
Should have used weld Through primer on lap joints
I’m no professional but I’ve done my fare share,I’ve enjoyed watching but afew things I’d of done…is once you’d made the inner sill panel I’d of tacked it into place like you had done, then ground round the new panel abit at a time and butt welded it(no need for a panel on the inside)plus if i were to lap weld,I’d clean up my metal, and treat with weld through primer,it won’t burn off……the longevity of the repair would be much longer…..plus think of all the extra wire and gas needed!…..but still liked watching😉👍
What I'm thinking is why you didn't cut out more further up to avoid future rest out it's going to rust right where you join those two panels together and all that time and effort and money be wasted because you didn't go as far up as you needed to
Guess you never wondered why your hammer has a rounded head also.
Does that even really count as "Transit" rust?
belta watch
2nd. Why did it fail? it's not structural. Sharp edges?
Within a prescribed area
If it's rusty enough to poke holes in within a few inches of any body mount then it's a fail
If it’s within 30cm a think of a structural area it’s a fail
30cm deffo correct😉👍
That owner is investing a lot in a vehicle that I wouldn’t find worthing.
Those Transits are already rusting in the brochure…
Your vice needs a little tlc.
What's a DOE ?
The Irish equivalent to the UK’s MOT... 👍
It is the old name given to the CVRT (Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Test). It hasn’t been known as a DOE test since about 2013.
@@yensabiThat’s NCT.
On an old van I'd just treat the rust and put the repair panel straight over it. It will outlive the van. And use a dremel for small cuts like the bottom right. By the way that looks like a lot of work, it must be expensive.?
1st
Boom sorted 👍
Far too good a repair for a bucket of shite transit
Hope you dont do MOT welding commercially? Messing around with spanners, isnt a great idea, as it takes a good deal more time, for no clear purpose whatever.
Good grief
@@tellitlikeitis-rg4ny Some people have nothing better to do🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 And some people are very jealous🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dudes doing a good job. And I bet he's nowhere near as expensive a some stuck up welder.
@@jaimz33 For the amount of time he is taking, the only way he isnt going to be very expensive, is if the job is free for a family member.
