  • In a world where APS-C cameras and lenses cost less than half of their Full-Frame counterparts, an old question came back to me: Do you really need full-frame? In today's video, we're going to answer that question, along with explaining the difference of full-frame and aps-c sensors and how that affects your images.

    🎯 Key Takeaways!
    00:38 📷 Full-frame vs. APS-C: The key difference lies in sensor size, with full-frame sensors being 50% larger than APS-C sensors.
    01:47 💸 APS-C cameras offer a cost advantage over full-frame when it comes to achieving longer focal lengths without expensive lenses.
    02:29 🌟 Depth of field differences between full-frame and APS-C cameras: APS-C cameras tend to have less blurry backgrounds due to indirectly having larger depth of field.
    04:05 🔦 Low-light performance: Full-frame sensors generally outperform APS-C sensors in low-light situations, resulting in less digital noise.
    05:28 🖼️ Image quality and sharpness: Full-frame cameras often have higher megapixel counts, offering more detail in photos and videos.
    07:07 💡 Cost considerations: APS-C systems are more budget-friendly for beginners, while full-frame systems can offer advantages in certain scenarios.
    08:59 🎨 Creativity over gear: Ultimately, the quality of your content is determined by your creativity and vision, not the camera gear you use.

    Zero regrets starting off with the a6500. The versatility helped out sooo much and the crop was pretty much unnoticeable.

      Honestly, I think the ZV-E1 would be the best if you really want to get some incredible videos. Second option may be a7C II. If you’re trying to save some money then third option would be the a6700 and APS-C lenses. Just my two cents!

    Just a note to aspiring videographer out there that the VAST majority of movies and documentaries you have ever seen were shot on a Super35 size sensor, which is close to the size of an aps-c sensor. And the majority of the time, those lenses were shot around f/2.8 to f/4. Just something to think about before deciding whether you need that ultra-shallow depth of field look or not.

      This! I know there’s a lot of love around for FF (which I love too) but S35/APS-C shouldn’t be discounted!

    Is it a hot take to want APS-C lenses to be labeled with their FF equivalent focal length? I know it’s dumb, and there’s a good reason why it is that way, but I switched from my α6400 to the α7C because of that (partially) lol

    • @DavidZhou
      @DavidZhou  5 месяцев назад

      That is actually the exact conversation I had that sparked the idea for this video lol, we were talking about how it'd be so much easier for APS-C users that way! But yeah, it doooesss make sense since all of those metrics were developed with respect to 35mm film (FF) and it's based on physical attributes of the lens, yaddiyaddah
