I like the size and weight over my wave and super tool.
I use my original leatherman as a pocket knife if i dont carry one of my other slip joint knives. This video is 10 years old now, but the rebar still a great tool👍. Thanks Aaron. 🇺🇲🔪🌲🔥
6:14 35 bucks? Welcome to the future. 😭
I used the same Leatherman Rebar everyday on (2) four month deployments as a Helicopter Electrician/ Technician in the middle east. The Rebar was the cornerstone of my deployment EDC and absorbed astounding levels of abuse from being dropped off Helicopters, out of moving trucks, and being used as a hammer. Having owned and used other multi tools in a similar fashion, the Rebar has no peers, not even the Leatherman Wave.
Thank you for your service!
I absolutely agree. The Rebar is the best Leatherman multitool ever made.
This is why i just ordered it, your comment. Thanks
Thank you for tour service Brandon, God speed to you and your adventure. Stay safe Sir.
The Rebar is the best Leatherman multitool. I have both the Wave Plus and the Rebar. Hardly ever do I find myself in the need of using the Wave Plus, though I love using my Rebar every day. The Rebar definitely beats the Wave Plus all the way - it's better equipped and much more suitable for EDC. Also, the Rebar's 4D Phillips screwdriver is much better and more solid han the Wave's crappy bitholder.. Carrying separate extra parts such as a bit extender and a bit kit makes no sense with a multitool - one might directly carry a dedicated tool. The Rebar's awl is much more useful than the Wave's "scissors". Finally, the Rebar is a little smaller and lighter (yet big enough for comfortable use), and unlike the Wave, it has a solid integrated loop, so I permanently carry it on my keys. The only advantage of the Wave is the ergonomic design that allows accessing the four basic instruments from outside, but that's not a big deal.
The price is NOT a quality of the product (the price is not and instrument or a function, and you don't use the price for cutting wood, clipping wires or opening bottles, do you). If you need an electric drill, you don't buy a hammer instead just because it's much cheaper, do you. You buy what you need, not what you can get for a lower price, so it's stupid to use the price as an argument when comparing products. The price is a symptom of the market, not a quality of a product. Therefore, the reason to get the Rebar preferably is not it's lower price - the reason is the Rebar's better equipment, quality, and versatility.
Cringe
I prefer the rebar to the wave due to weight, pocketability, and the fact that the only tools missing from the rebar (scissors and pin) I never use anyway.
Also, I just like the old school “heritage leatherman” styles
Picked up the coyote black version today. Glad I made the right choice! Thanks for the review.
Great choice
Thanks alot for this review - i have had my Rebar for almost 2 months and so impressed and happy with it, so thanks again for this review it really helped make the decision!!!
This is my favorite multi-tool. Perfect balance of size and utility.
I'm on my 3rd one. Not because it ever failed but because I'd gift a used one to a friend after they see how well it works and I just order a new one shortly thereafter. Between the Victorinox Pioneer in my pocket and the Rebar in my EDC bag, I can do anything.
@@beauash9651 Mine definitely clicks into place securely. I don't have any play in mine but my first one did. I beat the Hell out of them and they never failed me so... I think you'll be fine. 👌🏻
@@beauash9651 Unless you're trying to break it, it won't. It's built to last. That's why they stand behind their warranty.
Excellent review. I just bought the Rebar as my first Leatherman. Thank you for making my decision easier.
Haha, ya its hard to keep it all straight when you are on camera. I am planning on doing a lot more gear reviews starting next year so I better stop thinking about thinking about knives 24/7. Thanks for the comment.
The rebar saw is the best of all Leatherman saws. I love it. And the blade is Awsome for some whittling.
great to see some rebar love. this is my edc. great video man
I still love this one! great back up to my SURGE for end of days stuff and plenty light for EDC
Classic style, light & compact, useful tool set, easy on the wallet. Nice multi tool. Nice review. Looks like winter has arrived too.
I like how u get straight to the point with the reviews and field tests.
wahiawa boy Really appreciate that.
For me this little guy has been most durable, practical and light weight fantastic multi tool I have ever owned , I have other leatherman tools and other brands but I use this tool everyday , it's well made the bits haven't worn out yet and blades stay sharp.
The can opener works perfect I open my dogs can food with it very easily.
I have used the file to clean up the contacts on a controller for my well pump.
like I said its very practical.
I've been using the ST300 in my carpenter belt/bags for a few years, you gotta watch tho because if you let somebody borrow it, you never get it back.
When I saw the Rebar I knew I had to have it. I've been using it for backpacking, has the tools I need.
Have the rebar now cos of your review....keep up the great work ..greetings from Ireland 👍
Great review, thanks! And I believe the Leatherman removable bit driver for the ST 300 also works with the Rebar (or so the Leatherman reps tell me). So although you don't get the 2D-ish driver of the Wave or Charge out-of-box, you can still expand the Rebar's capabilities. If only the blade opened from the outside, the Rebar would be perfect for me.
I do love this multi-tool.
i have a rebar since about 5 year. its small enough to take it with you just about anywhere and strong enough to do 95% of the stuff you need it for. I have other ones but this goes always with me.
That scene of you running is hella funny to me for some reason haha
Great Review!
You should try out the surge... I have and it is beast. Razor sharp outta the box. It is a little big, but still amazing.
great multi tool I love mine
These are going for 80 nowadays and it's still worth the money. I have the green one with black tools and I love it
Awesome awesome awesome review!
You forgot about the wire stripper behind the can opener
The wave is a great tool as well.

I don't know if you noticed this, but you have a wire stripper on the can/bottle opener, too.
My Rebar came with two flatheads and an awl instead of a third flathead. Did you have yours customized? Anyway, great video. I love this leatherman. I wouldn't go to work without it.
These are $60 now, FYI for those watching this in late 2016.
With the blades tucked inside I thinkit is better for durablilty, dropping ect.. I would carry another knife along with it anyway.
Looks good,I luv my leatherman wave best sofar, thanks for the review, always helps
weird just come to find out I seem to have one other option on mine... well Minus the flathead screwdriver they filled mine with an awl thanks for the review..
His is defected......
great review man, keep it up :D
Thanks!
3 years ago this thing was 35 bucks, jesus. Its anywhere from 70 to 50 now
yes no shit huh?
StuntMuffin01 I just scored a gently used Black Oxide version for $37, shipped.
I just bought a new one for just 36.10 on eBay...
yeah crazy
The price of steel has gone way up. I grabbed mine with heritage edition sheath for $52-ish.
great tool
I would agree the wave is a little nicer, but it also cost a little more lol.
Lock backs are only available when the blades are inside not outside when folded?
Aaron do you find the pliers handle has hot spots or is it as comfortable as the Wave 2nd gen?
I'm kinda jealous that yours came with an extra screwdriver instead of an awl which I never use.
Awesome, thx!
Wow what a price change costs more than double that these days where in my country
mine has an aale instead of 3 flatheads
I enjoyed your review none the less!
Right on!
i always have a small victorinox knife with me (for exmaple the Hiker) the have a better saw than any leatherman MT they are longer and thin) but only the saw.
There is a plus to the fact that none of the tools are accessible on the outside. You can carry it in your pocket without a sheath if need be. I bought this tool first because of cost concerns several years ago. Later on I bought the Wave Plus. I carry the Rebar more. If you need the bit drives or you will be using this as your main knife and multitool, the Wave or Surge is the way to go. I carry another pocket knife on me that has a much better blade option and profile so that is not a concern. In my case the Rebar is a better option and seems more durable.
they should make few good outdoor multitools, 1 with great blade steels like 154cm and another cheaper model with something like 420hc or any other cheap steel. what i mean by good outdoors is that u dont need things like screw draivers and bottle openers, scissors and stupid serrated blades which is used for cutting rope i guess right ? but u can cut any rope with any knife anyway... pliers, blade, saw,can opener, awl and a good medium/fine or coarse file is all we bushcrafters need.
Three flat heads? Mine came with two flat heads and an awl! But i have had it from when it was first introduced, so maybe they have changed the specification?
watching the saw in action while brushing my teeth
Back in 2013 it didn’t have awl and had two almost identical small flat-head screw driver? A model from a couple of years ago had the awl/large flat-head/small-flat head in different order, that is it was large flat-head/awl/small flat head from the mail blade towards the file in order. Was the design changing over years or was it a production control issue?
Now that's what I call multi tool review!
Great review of a great tool.
One question though.
Why would I have to buy new cutters?
The tool comes with Leatherman's 25-year warranty. Does this not cover the wire-cutters?
Are they excluded from the warranty?
Think of it like the wick in a Zippo. It's an expendable piece that you keep up to par.
I got mine for $25 because of a pricing error at wally world, but the normal price was $50+ and its around the same on amazon. Where did you get your $35 price point?
Cool review. Plus I suspect you own shares in the cardboard company 😉
this is much better for carry than the wave IMO
Спасибо за отличный обзор
Glad you liked it!
The same bit kit that works with the Kick, works with the Rebar. I know this as I bought it, and the adapter fits perfectly over the 3D Phillips screwdriver. I don’t care for the bits that come with the kit, but, it will work with other 3/4” screw driver bits, too.
Hey man, nice review. Just a suggestion, but you should put your videos into playlists. I always have to scroll through all of your videos to find the one i want. If you added playlists, i bet you could double your views too. Just a suggestion though... Keep coming with the reviews though, they are sick!
Why haven't you reviewed the surge yet?
Why there's no awl? I've got Rebar since 2016, and i agree, it's awesome tool! I recommend to extend: bit kit, olight t3, medium sheath and pack up whatever u need)
Review says $35 (2013), just ordered one for $80. I still think it's a good buy at $80 after looking at multiple reviews newer competition.
been waiting on mine but leatherman is shipping it out so late for some reason.
The black or silver one
Damn you guys get them cheap in Australia they retail for $150
These things were 35 bucks? I pay 85 bucks for these 9 years later in the Netherlands.
Leatherman makes fantastic tools. The saw on their tools are ground in a way that the spine of the saw is thinner than the cutting edge. Hardly any resistance when cutting. Also, the teeth are extremely sharp and aggressive.
I totally agree with you.
I have this tool and I love it. But why did leatherman stopped stamping any usa mark on them? One wonders
Not enough room maybe. Who knows.
@@desertrainfrog1691 No mate I think it's because in some states like California this is not allowed unless all parts are made in the US, which isn't the case, the plier jaws are forged in Mexico, but it's machined and assembled in the USA.
Cool
Hey I know this is an old vid but I have a question. Does your rebar lock back locks have any play when it is closed
No
You got a defective rebar. It's supposed to come with 2 flat heads and a awl. As my rebar does
There are two versions of it
Does your rebar also has significant play of the blades and screwdriver?
Might need to find a way to tighten it. I don't think that's normal.
The Rebar is the very best of Leatherman multitools. It totally beats the Wave and similar products.
No pocket clip 😕
7:13 Cuts through like butter
Aaron do you recommend this leatherman for a bugout multitool?
This one or the super tool 300
Great review. Price has doubled... $70 now. Is that inflation?
Strange--every rebar I've seen has an Awl instead of that middle flathead screwdriver that you show on the video. Is there a chance that yours was a manufacturing defect or mistake, or did they change the Rebar at some point in time?
My kids just got me this for Christmas and it has the awl.
Hey Guys and Girls, does anyone know why Gideons Rebar has no sewing awl/reamer punch. The vid shows he has three flat heads, mine has two flat heads and a reamer punch. I thought they all came like the one i have. Does anyone know?
It's supposed to come with 2 flatheads and an awl.
what do you suggest, this or wave?
Wave it a little better.
The rebar is supposed to have an awl, and only two flatheads you might have a defected one lol
Looks like you are right!
why does yours have 3 flatheads mine has 2 flathead screwdrivers and a leather awl
he got a re,re bar
looks great but dont quote us made as parts are sourced abroad but all built in portland
Sawing a thick branch a V cut is more efficient. I find the Victorinox saw superior.
wait the tool is made in america which one north, central, or south
Life In The Taiga-made in Portland Oregon
no tools on the outside is a goot thing, Germany has a no Onehand opening locking blade (one or the other not both) so this would be perfect for that market.
You forgot to mention the wire stripper
Are the pliers on the surge and wave spring loaded? Is the saw for the surge and wave just as good as the saw on the rebar?
No
***** its not spring loaded
It's not spring loaded
Old post I know.... the surge and wave stock saws are great. But it's setup where you can switch them out for any "T shank" tools. So you can preserve your leatherman saw.
wave is more exspensive and solid but this is a bit cheaper and exellent
Agree!
The Rebar is now $69 on Amazon. 😥
Yeah price just keeps going up...
Bought a brand new one from menards for $60 a while back, and its still super stiff and new...A couple of months ago, I found the black version of the rebar at a pawn shop for $25. Bet your ass I swooped it up in a heartbeat!!
Capitalism = Greed
As you watch product reviews..... indulging... wait for it... capitalism.
@@KreatorStudios I indulge only myself :P
btw, you're a good reviewer :)
Thanks Rich, I am glad it helped!
They are so fuckin expensive in Germany !!!
I paid 60 € for mine, but it is worth it.
that the price all over Europe sadly. Leatherman tool are too expensive outside of USA.
hellsing56666 true
You can add 30% in France...
If I carry a multitool is because I think it can be useful sometime and somewhere and I think, in the worst case, it can even be a lifesaver. Can this multittool save your day? Can this multitool be a lifesaver in case of...?A Leatherman can!
with no outside access to any of its tools is it really that great?
A bit hard for one handed use. But the blades are super easy to take out.
Douglas Paulson still to call it "multi tool greatness"?
What would you call a sidekick or wingman with outside tools?
Blazin'Blades There are levels of greatness. Personally I carry a knife anyway so the blades on a multitool don't matter much to me. It just takes up space and has weaker locking when I do need the blades or file.
Well the outside opening tools have some cons too. For one, you can't really get your thumb up on the spine of the knife blade because the handle is in the way- and two, the blade can fold roght on to your finger if you just so happen to bump the liner lock enough to close it unlike with the inside blades.
It's nice if you want to carry in your pocket.
Can only find one on Amazon for 59?
It's 69.95 now
R.I.P. to all the cordage! Lol
It's patterned after the original just like the victorinox pioneer is patterned after the original swiss army.
Wow …. Now, ten years later it doubled in price
Ya sad day
Isn't the position of the knife a bit weird? I would expect it on the other side so that the cutting edge of the knife is aligned with the bottom of the knife. Now you've got a lot of multitool under the cutting edge.
Actually the complete opposite. It is great for cutting tasks especially wood carving.
I was hoping as much! :-) thanks! (A rebar is being shipped to me currently ;))
annedien
You are right. The MT's with one hand outside tools are much better for cutting, because the blade is aligned with the bottom of the knife. A solution, which sounds weird but actually works well, is to not re-close the tool after you take out the knife. Just grip it with the blade down and the pliers pointing toward you - it works fine as long as you don't have a long cutting task, where your hand could get tired quicker.
Tom Faranda great solution, thanks!
Is that really high carbon steel? I was hoping its stainless ... i dont want it to rust ...
420HC is rust resistant.
Oh, okay, didnt know that. Thanks.
+Proxigar no problem
Keep it oiled well.
the prise is 60 dollars for it now.
