The Rebar was my first multi tool. Bought it 7 years ago. Repaired a lot of stuff with it and built a hell of a lot of IKEA furniture with it. It’s literally my absolute favorite tool I own.
You finally reviewed my favorite Leatherman! :D I love my Rebar. It is thin, but packed with tools, and great tools at that. Pliers, saw, file, awl, can opener, Phillips. I've also added scissors. And it is comfortable, ight and slim, and I got it for $48. What a great multi-tool. Great video and points as always. Thanks, Ben.
@@txtoolcrib The Wave scissors fit and lock perfectly, hence the Bladeless Rebar, which has Wave scissors. You mess around with the set-up which works best for you. The scissors are the same thickness as the awl and large flathead. I removed the large flathead. Interestingly, you can just remove the lanyard ring, and re-arranging the implements, you can fit the scissors in. One handle will have scissors and Phillips, and the can opener that was next to the Phillips can go in the other handle. People have made all sorts of changes to the Rebar, like replacing the Phillips with the bit driver. Also, you can buy little wrenches that fit the Rebar's screws (and any other LM with those screws) which makes it ridiculously easy to mod. I've rambled long enough, so if you are interested in the wrenches and Rebar mods, you can just go to the multitool forum and check those out.
Definitely going to do that. I would assume at some point, someone has also installed the Rebar awl into a Wave as well. Providing that the tools lock in correctly between the two multi tools, which it sounds like they do.
@@txtoolcrib I've put a Rebar awl in my Charge. Straight drop-in, in place of the large flathead. Locks perfectly, the tool closes just like before, no grinding or anything needed.
The Rebar is my favorite. I'm a bit old school, in that I like the PST lineage up to the Super Tool 300. I also love the Core. That fact that you have to open it to access the blade is fine with me. It may not be "tacticool," but I don't mind taking the extra couple of seconds opening the tool. For a robust yet lightweight multitool, it can't be beat in my opinion.
Awesome review. I love the Rebar, for a small package it's hell of a traditional multi tool. Reminds me a lot of the Blast without the scissors. I'm not really a fan of the newer Free series, Rebar is literally half the price of a Free and can get the job done.
This was my first leatherman bought it back in 2017. Just recently retired it and got a wave, cause I want the bit kit and scissors. But let me tell you I’ve popped open some serious cans of paint and lacquer thinner with that larger flat head. I’ve also have pulled out three inches nails with these pliers. This multitool I have no complaints about it. It handled everything I threw at it with reason of course.
I got my rebar back around 16/17 time too. I abused it with every task a multitool should never do lol. Also turns out the knife blade can work as a pry bar sometimes. But make sure you engage your safety squints first lmao! Once the blade broke I tossed it cause I never cared for some of the downsides. But while I carried it, it was a mighty fine hammer to my nails lol.
The rebar is hands down my favorite tool from Leatherman. It's basically a smaller super tool 300. It's a fantastic multi tool. I was a die hard wave fan for many years, but after using the rebar at work a few times, I ended up giving the Wave to my girlfriend to keep in her car and I've had the rebar ever since. 😂
The Rebar is my personal favourite Leatherman tool - I have two of them and use them a lot. For me, it has the best compactness/utility ratio - it's robust enough to get the job done, but not too heavy to carry. My only major complaint is the serrated blade, which I never use. But all multitools are a compromise - if you want the perfect tool set, get a toolbox and fill it with tools!
👍Got my first Leatherman in the beginning of the 90. It was the supertool! I used it as an event technician for 20 years, it's still here and alive! Now I own a rebar knifeless, because I'm always wear a knive anyway. Man, the kniveless Version is so compact and light. And it looks like a small rebirth of my supertool!
Fantastic tool for the price, I recently purchased one on EBAY for $39 new. Considering the great tool loadout and that you can typically find them online for $60 the REBAR is an incredible value.
The rebar was my first leatherman, and actually my only one to date. It was, in my opinion, the best compromise of tools. I usually carry a victorinox nail clip, so I have a (small) pair of scissors on that if I really need them. I do with that it had a pocket clip, and I actually needed the pliers to open wider once on a road trip. Luckily I also had a gerber center drive with me. Overall though, I like the rebar better.
Great review. The rebar was my first good multitool. My first ever multitool was a $10 ozark trail that I carried every day and got quite a bit of use out of considering how cheap it was. Then I was given the Rebar as a Christmas gift and realized what I had had been missing. I used it at least a dozen times a day. I just upgraded to a Surge because I work in construction and wanted the heavier duty tool but I'm still wearing the Rebar away from work because of it's smaller size. Great multitool.
Love your reviews because they come from one that obviously uses them. IMHO the three best Leatherman tools HAVE to be the Wave, Charge and Surge. I believe Leatherman made a huge mistake with the Free tools by not adding the bit exchanger.
@@txtoolcrib I bought the P4 just because. I have had a Leatherman since 1992. Got the 200, 300, Surge, Charge, Skeletool. Very disappointed with P4, it just feels cheap. I work in agriculture and the P4 is not going to make it. Very disappointed.
Yeah, I know what you mean. My initial impression the first time I used it was that it felt cheap. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt, but no matter how hard I try I can’t make myself like it or the P2.
Great video. I just ordered the Rebar Leatherman and lucky for me none of the bad thing you mentioned about the Rebar bother me. I have the super tool 300 but it is a little to big to EDC. And I did not want to carry a knife blade over 3 inches in the city if it was not for work or recreation but just to EDC as City laws are strict. Plus I carry a SAK Champion Plus that has sissors & other cool stuff the Rebar does not.
You like the Rebar? Its a lot more comfortable than the st 300 right?! Great mid range multi tool for the price too... I carry a victorinox compact with my rebar for my daily needs. Combinations are endless for edc!
@@wretchpin Yes like the Rebar and got the bit driver for it. The Leatherman bit driver does also work on the SAK Champion Plus philips screwdriver too. The Rebar is easier to carry EDC and save the 300 when I know I will be needing the bigger, stronger and longer tools of the Super Tool 300.
One perhaps minor point about all the tools being inside on the Rebar: when hiking around in my dusty, arid country, the closed Rebar in a belt sheath stays cleaner. My Surge just seems to get more dirt-clogged than the Rebar. Or Supertool 300. The Rebar is about the smallest good, light duty bushcrafting multitool I know. Perfect toss in the shoulder bag weight. Or pocket. I'd absolutely love to see a bushcrafter dedicated Rebar style tool. Don't need the drivers, so maybe another small blade, and a chisel. A small higher level steel blade for knots and hardwood. Fantasy. Great as it is. Love the size. Cheers!
I think the individual tools on the Rebar - and Bond for that matter which includes the same tools minus the saw and serrated blade, as well as having a different pliers head - are way better than those on the Free series. The flat Phillips driver and 1 inch long file on the Free series are just the ones from the budget Leathermans (i.e. Rev, Wingman, Sidekick) and are not really fit for purpose except in a pinch, and the one inch ruler is just a filler as I can't see it being much use. The Free series are classed and priced as premium tools. I can only assume that their popularity is down to the fidget factor, being able to open them like a Balisong. I can open both my Bond and Rebar to get to the pliers with one hand if I need to, it just takes a couple of seconds. Regarding the pocket clip I agree that there should be one, or the option to attach one, on the Rebar. I have one on my Bond although I had to purchase it separately. One solution which I think would work is sticking a Nite Ize HipClip on it. I've done this on a Victorinox Alox knife and it holds up no problem on the dimpled surface, so it would work no problem on a Rebar.
As a reaction to 18:49 I have to say that the extender actually fits in the adapter, so technically you can combine both of these accessories together. However, as the bits themselves rattle a bit in the extender, the extender rattles a bit in the adapter and even the adapter itself rattles very slightly on the phillips driver, the overall stability of such device is not great. That being sad, if you desperately need a long reach, then while sacrificing a stability, you get a reach that is hard to match. Excelent review btw!
I love my rebar. I’d rather not have scissors as I’d never use them for my edc. The lack of pocket clip doesn’t effect me either as I prefer carrying mine in the leather pouch it came with. My biggest issue with the tool is the grade of steel they use in construction. It’s quite brittle and the tools are more prone to snapping off rather than getting a slight bend.
I have had several multi tools over the years from Gerber sog and Leatherman including the wave and charge tti recently I got the Rebar and it is my favorite ever.. perfect size and Pocket clip is not necessary as it fits perfectly in the small 5th pocket in my jeans
The Rebar is very underrated. It’s incredibly compact, and has everything you need and nothin ya don’t. . . Except for maybe scissors. Those would be pretty convenient, for me, at least. Although Wave ones can be added fairly easily if you take the lanyard loop and a spacer out n do some tool shuffling.
The rebar has a very big fan club. I personally prefer the wave style just a bit more, but it’s hard to deny that the rebar offers a bit better tool set in my opinion. Scissors can be added in such a multitude of different ways. If I had to leave one implement out in order to have a more complete tool set, the scissors would be it.
Great review I carry the victorinox mini champ on my keys as a small scissors replacement. And I don’t mind opening the tool for the blade and others I do want a wave + . Surge stays in my go bag and I sometimes carry a skeleton when carrying a bigger knife . Great insight on my favorite leatherman.
You do the best reviews, one could say you're a natural. Maybe I've missed it, but when reviewing these leatherman with the square Phillips, your not loosing the bit extension, it fits in the square Phillips adapter just fine
I think I have made that error a few times on different tools, even though I am aware that there is a bit adapter available for the square shank Phillips. It happens sometimes.
@@GarrettRockey not much difference, the extension is about 1/8th inch longer in the surge vs the super tool 300, 1/2 inch longer in the charge vs rebar
I used to have a rebar. One of the best multitools I've ever had. But there were somethings I never liked about it. I did not like having to open the tool to get at the inner tools. And when using the pliers how my palms were sticked by the tools. When I ended up breaking the knife blade (By using it in ways everyone says to never use a knife lol) I trashed it.The rebar was a good tool. And is perfect for some people. But for me I found the few downsides not to my liking. I did love that it was so strong and capable for the price point. I certainly abused that tool and it never flinched. Aside from the knife blade when I used it as a pry bar lmao. Luckily I still have both eyes, cause my safety squints worked lol.
Excellent review. I like the Rebar a lot-for all the reasons you've noted.. One of the problems for me though, is that if you grip the tool hard while using an internal tool, you can depress the lock and the tool will fold. The ST300 has the same problem. I have fashioned a safety clip to prevent that from happening, but I wish LM would rethink the lock for this one. Like you say, the pliers, file, saw, awl and 3D Phillips are top notch. For smaller kits and so on, the Rebar is the one.
@@txtoolcrib thank you for helping me decide on which Leatherman tool to buy. I am going to get the Leatherman REBAR and use it for my EDC (Every Day Carry) !
Thanks for the review! I love my new Rebar! You said the Surge was hands down your favorite multitool. What are your thoughts on the Victorinox SuperTool? Thanks.
Old video I know but had to leave something for the Rebar. Had an old Gerber MP that I lost and decided it was time for a new multitool. Picked up a Rebar and a MP400 and been switching weekly. Rebar is definitely superior, but man I love the one handed opening on the MP and it gets me by on the days I need it. Think the Rebar will be daily carry and MP will stay in the truck glove box for when needed.
Completely agree with you on the rebar, doesn't need siscorrs. If Leatherman updated rebar with pocket clip, update steel heck I'm fine with 420hc, to handles to drop weight? Leatherman would kill
As far as awls go for multitools, I think that since leatherman has the double sided microdrivers that push into a holder they could design something like the speedy stitcher has for a sewing awl and integrate that into the multitools. I feel like that should be the next evolution.
The awl of the Rebar ist perfect. I wanted to save money but still have a good Leatherman without anything missing. The Wave doesnt have an awl, i use the Leatherman outdoors in the forests for bushcrafting. The Rebar doesnt have scissors but there i use some 2 Dollar scissors from drugstore which works fine. My friend gone the other way. Stick to the Wave and get a Victorinox for the awl. Thats wrong thought for me. You can Always find a scissor for EDC for almost nothing but you dont find awls very often for almost no costs. Also the file is very very aggressive on the Rebar while almost falling asleep using the soft file on the Wave+. I love the Wave but thats more towards urban EDC than the Rebar which is more wood use EDC at least for me.
Great review Ben, been looking for a a back up Leatherman to keep in my car just in case I got forget my EDC Wave+. Think this would fit the bill great.
I love the size of the Rebar. Like you said, sized like the PST, but with great refinements. I have been seriously considering the Knifeless Rebar. I carry a single blade liner lock knife all the time anyway. The Knifeless Rebar comes with scissors instead of both knife blades. I'll take scissors over a serrated blade any day. IMO, they could have kept the regular knife blade and called the tool by another name. The only shortcoming on the Knifeless Rebar is it's lack of a diamond file. I have EDC'd the Pulse for 14 years, love the diamond file, never a moment's trouble. It would be better with a saw instead of the can opener. It also is lacking the wire stripper. One can strip wires with a regular or serrated blade....tedious, but can be done. The can opener, IMO, is overrated. There are many ways to open a can in the field that don't require a tool slot in my multitool. Thanks for your as always detailed review..........
Rewatching this one. It’s a phenomenal review. Definitely one for your “greatest hits”. There’s only one little thing, why a “B grade” ? -No outside accessible or one handed tools - no scissors - no pocket clip Other than those limitations, I find not fault with the Rebar, especially considering it’s price point & weight. As far as all multitools are concerned, I’d give it a very low A. Just food for thought. Thanks for all the reviews & hope your family, friends and all in your cuticle are doing well!
Thank you. I guess my reasoning is that there are no outside accessible tools. I am really partial to the knife blades being outside accessible on the Surge.
TX Tool Crib I didn’t mean that to sound overly critical. Tone of voice is sometimes tough to reflect here. You know I’m a fan lol. As far as the Rebar, paired with the K4 and adding a the Removable Bit Driver plus an Olight i3t - all combines to make a great EDC load out. If one handed blade action is needed, I simply use the K4. My only criticism of this combo is the K4 needs a blade steel upgrade. Side note: even though I like the tools in the Surge the best, the fidget factor in the P4, the all around greatness of the Wave, the utilitarian value of the Skeletool & Freestyle and of course the trIed & true worth of the ST 300 - I still end up back with the Rebar. Weight/size and tool selection win out for me. All in all, the Rebar, ounce for ounce, is the best Leatherman to me.
I got my Rebar for $48, and it was a steal, considering the $70 it goes for now. If the price is going to be that much more, then make it a premium tool. The $70 would be justified perfectly if the Rebar was updated with -pocket-clip. Perfect size and weight, and clean frame. Great for pocket carry. -diamond file. Why not put it in more tools? -jigsaw holder. Would be a great handle for those, better than the Surge. -Wingman package opener. Same thickness as the Rebar's lanyard ring, but much more useful. -Wave scissors. Not the best, but very capable, and the fit perfectly. Ditch the large flathead. -ferro rod. Attach it like the C4 punch on the ST300 EOD. There could even be a fat Rebar, just a little thicker, to have all current tools, in addition to scissors, t-shank holder etc. Also, why not turn the handles inside-out, so the implements open from the outside, like Bear & Son multi-tools? The Free series almost did that, but messed up many aspects of that design. Anyway, lots of potential for the Rebar. It's just sweet.
One of my favorites! The only thing missing, but not necessary, is scissors. My complaint isn’t with the tool, but the Heritage Edition sheath mine came with. It hasn’t worn well, and I wouldn’t recommend it. I do want to get an upgraded sheath, but can’t decide which one to get.
TX Tool Crib Add in the bit kit adapter for the Rebar, Kick, and Supertool 300, it becomes an awesome tool. I will say, thanks to you and similar channels that I had started a RUclips Channel of my own reviewing tools and technology. I haven’t done a video in awhile due to health issues, and if I’m feeling alright tomorrow, I wanted to finally do a review on my Rebar.
The Rebar is the best Leatherman multitool for EDC, the Super Tool 300 is the best Leatherman heavy-duty multitool. Actually, the Rebar is much better than the Wave (Plus) and any other Wave-like toy (the Charge series). Actually, the Wave (Plus) is nowhere near a good multitool. The Wave (Plus) has practically unusable medium size flat screwdriver and fake Phillips screwdriver, since their bitholder is too wide and too short. The Rebar, on the other hand, has the real 3D Phillips screwdriver and good flathead screwdrivers. The Wave's scissors only take space - generally, scissors rather belong in a manicure than in a multitool because they can easily be substituted by knife or pincers in most cases. The ruler on the Wave is practically illegible, whereas on the Rebar it's really good. The pliers'jaws are wider and better to use in the Rebar, while the needle nose crap in the Wave is unstable and too narrow. In general, the Rebar is much steadier and more efficient. I also highly appreciate the Rebar's awl, which is completely missing in the Wave. The Wave is more fashionable than usable.
That was my thinking, those flat proprietory bits are not fit for purpose, especially the Phillips which doesn't ''bite'' deep enough; I've heard that the steel they make them from is soft; and finally the bitset is exhorbitantly priced for what it is, it's priced as if it were made in the USA but it's Chinese made. If I want a bit driver on a multitool I want to be able to use standard 1/4 inch bits as I then have a choice and can use high quality bits. On the other end of the scale you have the Rev, Sidekick, Wingman with their one inch long unusable files, and the flat 2D Phillips. This is all fine and dandy on those 3 as they are budget multitools and accordingly priced lower. But the Free series which is premium priced has the same crappy tools!
The rebar wad my 1st edc multi tool used it for 4 years and only a month ago switches to a wave+ but I still carry the rear when not working just as a tool to have on me
Good review. Small tools with knife and scissors are plentiful. You can get a 1/4" to 1/4" adaptor and use any standard bits instead of Leatherman's proprietary flat bits. Much cheaper. Noticed some arrows, what is it for?
The weight advantage of the Rebar makes it a good candidate for an EDC, and not having a clip is really a bummer. Hope Leatherman addresses that in the future.
I totally agree with you about the scissors. I always carry a Victorinox Executive or a Leatherman Style PS (usually both), so, unless they are appreciably bigger and stronger, I don't mind them being absent.
My Rebar has small tools in different order than I see in this video. Counting from the main (straight) blade, I have the awl, small flat-head, larger flat-head, the lanyard ring, and finally the file. I bought my Rebar this April 2021. Is the order changing by the production years or are the three small tools assembled in random order? Just curious. edit: Gideon’s tactical channel reviews a Rebar from 2013 and it had three slightly different sizes of flat head screw drivers and did not have the awl. A history of the Rebar would make an interesting topic.
That's a good point you made about the measurement of the blade. That is dishonest really, that's like a knife maker measuring the knife tip to the bottom of the tang and saying that's the length of the blade when it's not. I agree.
Good to see a bunch more reviews youre putting out. Youre my goto for a concise, honest tool review. Any plans for the Leatherman Free K4 line? Havnt seen any on RUclips
Thank you, I appreciate that. I am interested in both the K2 and K4, don't really have much interest in the half serrated versions of those tool. But boy, they come with a healthy price tag considering what they are. I try to approach each review with an open mind and judge each tool on it's capabilities and value. I'll be honest though, I have been really turned off by this new magnetic architecture. I thought the T-series could have really been good had they not slapped a bunch of mid grade implements in them. The K-series is going to have much of the same, but it is going to have a pretty substantial knife from what I can tell. It is going to be a bit longer than the Crater knife, and from the pictures I have seen, I really like the blade shape. To answer your question, yes, when they are released I will probably pick up the K2 and K4 to review them.
@@txtoolcrib hopefully generation 2 will improve on their tool selection and materials. It seems like their focus this round was getting the framework down (that being onehanded magnetic operation). Now they should build upon that while improving on the weaknesses of this current selection. For me, modularity is key. Id love to see the bit holder and saw/file holder make a return.
@@txtoolcrib I found this on another thread, but a bunch of folks recommended the Clipdraw universal clip www.clipdraw.com/product/universal-clipdraw-for-semi-autos/ (marketed for firearms, but many folks swear by it on their non-pocket clip Leathermans)
Yeah Rebar is a good tool, I have the only complaint is scissor it has all the main tools except scissor, It has scissor in knifeless Rebar but it doesn't contain any knife and please make Crunch review
I use the knifeless Rebar with scissors in combination with a larger pocket knife. Perfect combination for me. I also own a standard Rebar - one thing I do not like about the blades when comparing with Wave/Charge/Surge is that the cutting edge points to the handles. In some situations this can be a problem. And that’s why I mainly use the knifeless version.
That rivet holds a spring bar on the inside of the handle. The spring bars provide tension to the pliers, so that the handles do not flop around when you open them.
@@txtoolcrib i second the Leatherman surge. If too big than do Leatherman. Wave. If you can afford it Leatherman charge + g10. But I’m too nervous to drop mine or scuff it 😂
The normal Leatherman extension won't fit inside the bit adapter from corner to corner like the Leatherman bits fit in a standard 1/4" driver? I honestly prefer a standard non-flattened bit driver as the options for bits and extensions are almost endless. There are even longer shank bits that can fit where the head of an extension or driver won't fit... which is honestly the only reason I keep a few standard screwdrivers in my bags. lol
@@txtoolcrib It probably helps that I only keep the ones I use everyday (Phillips #1 and #2 plus a med flat) on me and the "might needs" elsewhere. Fortunately I have worked where I am long enough (15 yrs) that I've set all of the current stuff up and there aren't really any surprises here as far as that goes. As a field tech for about 12 years before this job I'm very thankful for the familiarity and for the most part knowing what I am walking in to. lol
Good review, thanks, I'm using your videos for to do listening, you have very good and clear English. I have a Rebar, I like it, simple, full metal, easy to clean, I spend time in the nature and I use the awl a lot. But, when I use the pliers the handles hurt a bit my skin, do You think the SP300 is more comfortable?. Maybe I can go with it.
Thank you, I appreciate that. I think the SuperTool 300 is a bit more comfortable overall than the Rebar. I wish that Leatherman offered more tools in the standard size with the Rebar awl. The downside to the ST300 versus the Rebar is it’s weight. Now if weight is not an issue for you, then I think it would be a good choice.
I have had a skeletool, signal and sidekick. I work in environmental remediation and I will say I will not buy a leatherman without an outside accessible knife.
I don't know in which of your reviews you were asking who knows what the new version of removable cutters are made from: the answer lays in the q&a section of the product on leatherman.com. They say it's premium 440c steel now.
REGARDING CUTTER STEEL: 154CM is a type of stainless steel developed and manufactured in the United States by Crucible Materials Corporation (now - Crucible Industries). Crucible 154CM is a modification of martensitic stainless steel type 440C to which molybdenum has been added. ~Wikipedia So, 154cm is an enhanced 440C stainless. But why the terminology change? Unenhanced 440C?
@@davidsiegel9847 I am well aware about the 154CM being better than any steel in the 440 family. Just trying to quote with inexact words how Leatherman presents their new cutters.
@@jimmyandrews8972 Sounds like it's the knifeless Rebar then. It's still a Rebar, just another version. Actually I wish I'd bought that instead of the standard Rebar.

It is a great compact tool for sure. What scissors did you add to yours? Did you have to sacrifice any of the existing tools to accommodate for them?
@@txtoolcrib The Wave scissors fit and lock perfectly, hence the Bladeless Rebar, which has Wave scissors.
You mess around with the set-up which works best for you. The scissors are the same thickness as the awl and large flathead. I removed the large flathead.
Interestingly, you can just remove the lanyard ring, and re-arranging the implements, you can fit the scissors in. One handle will have scissors and Phillips, and the can opener that was next to the Phillips can go in the other handle.

It may not be "tacticool," but I don't mind taking the extra couple of seconds opening the tool. For a robust yet lightweight multitool, it can't be beat in my opinion.
Nothing wrong with that.
Best rebar review on RUclips.
My next mt will be leatherman rebar.
Thank you sir.
Awesome review. I love the Rebar, for a small package it's hell of a traditional multi tool. Reminds me a lot of the Blast without the scissors. I'm not really a fan of the newer Free series, Rebar is literally half the price of a Free and can get the job done.
No doubt, the Rebar is a very capable multi tool. I think it has one of the better tool sets of all of the standard duty multi tools.
This is the best review of the Rebar on the whole wide internet!
Love my rebar! The saw on the rebar is the most aggressive of all Leatherman saws I have.
Well that was a good deal.
I think you hit the nail on the head when you said it has the best compromise of tools. I really do like the compliment of tools in the Rebar.
I had to move up to the surge, but the rebar was my edc for years and I loved it! Great tool for work and home 24/7!
Thank you sir. The Rebar and Surge are both great multi tools. Someday maybe they’ll add a pocket clip to it.
@@txtoolcrib
Yes, hopefully good ones that make sense.
Eventhough I can afford to add a little amount to buy the wave lineup yet I ended buying the rebar.
I just love the classic look.
I bought a skeletool as my edc and a rebar as household tool. Wonderful combination!
Love your reviews because they come from one that obviously uses them. IMHO the three best Leatherman tools HAVE to be the Wave, Charge and Surge. I believe Leatherman made a huge mistake with the Free tools by not adding the bit exchanger.
I agree with every bit of that statement.
I also feel that they just put wingman tools in and bumped up the price. Not real happy with what they did there
_ jake124 I would have been a lot more open minded about the FREE series of tools if they didn’t come with those high price tags.
@@txtoolcrib
I bought the P4 just because.
Rebar pairs perfectly with a Squirt S4, in my opinion. The only tools it's missing are scissors, nail file, and eyeglass screwdriver.
Cheers!
That is a really excellent point, thanks for sharing.
I dont mind the lack of picket clip because it comes with the sheath and thats always been nice.
If I had to leave one implement out in order to have a more complete tool set, the scissors would be it.
youre really hot.
It seems like the Rebar Phillips driver + bit adapter is about the same length as the extender?
Thank you. Great analysis too.
The file is an aggressive beast!
It’s not too bad at all.
@@txtoolcrib thank you for helping me decide on which Leatherman tool to buy. I am going to get the Leatherman REBAR and use it for my EDC (Every Day Carry) !
I carry a Rebar on my edc , i dont need swissors because i carry z leatherman micra on my key keychain. For me is ideal for edc.
Thanks for the review! I love my new Rebar!
You said the Surge was hands down your favorite multitool. What are your thoughts on the Victorinox SuperTool?
Thanks.
Thanks for the great review. I have not bought a Rebar, because it doesn't have scissors.
💯 Solid Review....touched on all the points I was looking for...pocket clip....driver bit comparison.....scissors...etc...
Miniature Chicken Channel Thank you.
I think a pocket clip would greatly up the appeal of the Rebar for sure.
I prefer the rebar over the wave
The square bit to 1/4” hex adapter accepts the 2d bits and the extender too ....same adapter works on the smaller multi tools too !!
Rewatching this one. It’s a phenomenal review. Definitely one for your “greatest hits”. There’s only one little thing, why a “B grade” ?
-No outside accessible or one handed tools
- no scissors
- no pocket clip
Other than those limitations, I find not fault with the Rebar, especially considering it’s price point & weight.
The $70 would be justified perfectly if the Rebar was updated with
-pocket-clip.
I would love to see the Rebar with outside implements. That would be fantastic. Same with the SuperTool 300.
beautiful video, thank you
One of my favorites! The only thing missing, but not necessary, is scissors. My complaint isn’t with the tool, but the Heritage Edition sheath mine came with. It hasn’t worn well, and I wouldn’t recommend it. I do want to get an upgraded sheath, but can’t decide which one to get.
The Rebar was a hit from the word go. Great classic design with all the tools you need.
It is easy to add scissors to rebar. After this mode it becomes my favorite multitool.
Very popular mod as well.
What an outstanding review!
Thank you sir.
Proud owner here. Worth the money!
Can’t wait till I get a rebar
Great review!!👍👍
Thank you. The Rebar has a really good tool set. I love how compact it is.
Great review, keep em coming. 👍
Thank you sir.
The rebar wad my 1st edc multi tool used it for 4 years and only a month ago switches to a wave+ but I still carry the rear when not working just as a tool to have on me
Great review. Thank you.
A pocket clip would really be welcome on the Rebar. I think it is a great pocketable tool, lightweight and compact. Just needs that pocket clip.
@@txtoolcrib I added the Nite Ize hip clip to my rebar and it works perfectly. Not sure how long it will last but so far so good.
I just got the Rebar and the pocket clip was a huge stumbling point for me.
Great Review Ben
Thank you very much.
I totally agree with you about the scissors. I always carry a Victorinox Executive or a Leatherman Style PS (usually both), so, unless they are appreciably bigger and stronger, I don't mind them being absent.
Thanks for your comments, and thank you for watching.
Very good review!
I agree.
Good review 👍 I wish there was a pocket clip too!
Thank you.
It will be a great deal for someone who finds a way to adapt a pocket clip in Rebar.
It would be awesome if they integrated a pocket clip.
I like the rebar to but I would like to add sizers to if I can do it I would just put them in place of the round lanyard hole if they will fit
You can do exactly this.
Good review.
I’ve watched all your videos in the past month
You are master reviewer
Bring some Ganzo g202 g303 review for some budget options
Very kind, very humbling. Thank you sir. I will try to work some budget options in.
Yeah Rebar is a good tool, I have the only complaint is scissor it has all the main tools except scissor, It has scissor in knifeless Rebar but it doesn't contain any knife and please make Crunch review
I will, I promise.
I wish they had a knifeless version of the SuperTool 300 for the same reason. Lot of people carry a dedicated folder.
If the Rebar had a pocket clip, I'd buy this for work. I like everything about it, but I need a clip to carry with my medical scrubs.
RAE has a sheath for it with a pocket clip. Scuffs it up a bit but If you can get over that your golden. I rotate this with the wave everyday.
20:14 What is that rivet for on the left side of the handle?
That rivet holds a spring bar on the inside of the handle. The spring bars provide tension to the pliers, so that the handles do not flop around when you open them.
A nice leather sheath makes up for missing pocket clip.
Would you take this over the victorinox spirit?
They should have removed the mini flat driver for a scissors on this in my opinion
Very good review!
Only 1/2 way through but what's your favorite Leatherman if you had to carry only 1
Without question, the Leatherman Surge.
@@txtoolcrib Awesome. Thank you.
There are even longer shank bits that can fit where the head of an extension or driver won't fit... which is honestly the only reason I keep a few standard screwdrivers in my bags. lol
Makes perfect sense. I just find it cumbersome to carry multiple standard sized bits every day.
As a field tech for about 12 years before this job I'm very thankful for the familiarity and for the most part knowing what I am walking in to. lol
I get bored easily. I like not knowing what I’m walking into. Makes my days more interesting. Lol
I got the knifeless version, which gets you scissors. Since I already carry a blade...
Good day sir! Just out of curiosity, have you ever tried accessing the Rebar's tools while wearing gloves?
I haven’t, I don’t carry it that often. I have with the SuperTool 300. You can get the blades out, but that’s about it.
@@txtoolcrib Good to know, thanks
The reason they measure blades that way is to avoid problems and confusion with conforming to local blade length laws.
Two little holes for the free series clip and it's perfect
Oh and Thanks Ben
You should review the tactical pen from Gerber!
I need to look it up.
Which is thicker (side) the re-bar or wave?
The Wave.
I love my wave +, but i will get the rebar
Both good tools, I still prefer the outbound blades myself though.
REGARDING CUTTER STEEL:
154CM is a type of stainless steel developed and manufactured in the United States by Crucible Materials Corporation (now - Crucible Industries). Crucible 154CM is a modification of martensitic stainless steel type 440C to which molybdenum has been added.
~Wikipedia
So, 154cm is an enhanced 440C stainless. But why the terminology change? Unenhanced 440C?
@@davidsiegel9847 I am well aware about the 154CM being better than any steel in the 440 family. Just trying to quote with inexact words how Leatherman presents their new cutters.
Thanks for researching that, good to know.

Victorinox has the BEST scissors
For me no pocket clip is absolutely a deal breaker.
My rebar doesn't have the straight edge or serrated edge knives
I also have scissors on my rebar
@@jimmyandrews8972 Sounds like it's the knifeless Rebar then. It's still a Rebar, just another version. Actually I wish I'd bought that instead of the standard Rebar.
Leatherman does the knife blade length based on European definitions of blade length calculation.
The easiest. Tested in practice!
Too bad no scissors.
Indeed.
Add a Leatherman Micra and you'll get the best of both world! I bought my Leatherman Rebar with a Micra in the same package. Best combo I ever bought!
