I don't know what those screws do, but it made more of a difference in the steering than any gear box or front end I've done to these trucks. Thank you so much for letting everyone know about this awesome fix. I'm a fleet mechanic for these things, if it doesn't wear out anything, I'll do it to them all.
@randlehawkins8040 not a lot. My set screws were loose. I tightened them a quarter turn or so till they were tight. I don't know what they do, but it helped a ton. I don't think they'll cause binding.
You are the MAN! Im gonna try this on my 2017 Yukon when i get it back. Its currently getting a new exhaust, brake system, and supercharger put in. It has really bad steering play too, so im gonna try this and I’ll keep you posted.
Hey I just took apart my steering column and I have all the problems your listing, could not see the shaft with the torx screws just a shaft that covers where it should be but it doesn’t rotate

How much did you tighten? I tighten up mine yesterday and the steering started binding up.

Yeah I gave up on my 05 replaced the shaft, the little plastic bearing thing. The gear box the pitman and idler arms tightened these screws same shit
ive seen this but ive heard you have to be careful because they are anchored in plastic unfortunately.
What size is torx nice video.
I would add some red locktite.
