I really like Eskdale little village (Boot) with its mill near the bridge. It's magical. First time I went there last year when I was doing Eskdale Elevation. This recces you are doing are so cool and useful.
“Bullet Point” 😂😂😂. That’s like a hidden valley and so quiet. I hiked \ yomped that seathwaite to Harter a few October’s back and very boggy. Lots different paths up to that birker fell clearing. Definitely going to explore more. Going to read the comments for that mileage difference.
Thanks so much for the videos John, it really brightens my day up every time you upload. It’s also great to run the Lakes vicariously through you, so keep up the great work. 👍
Excellent video! This is absolutely one of my favourite RUclips running channels. Highly entertaining, brilliantly made, great content and overall awesomeness. I think I ran 105 miles in total, but it was 11 years ago and I was wasted by the end!
You ran it back in the early days mate! That must have been an experience of itself wonder how much it’s changed since then? Glad your enjoying the vids Johnny 🤘🏻
Loving the recces. I am wanting to come up and recce the whole LL100 route before race day this year (I'm lucky enough to have got a place), but your videos are covering it well. Thank you. I'll look out for the bogs. I like the waypoints and map illustrations, those are helpful. What would also be very useful (for me at least), is to have a summary at the end of the run of the distance, time it took you, elevation etc. This data really puts things in perspective for those who cannot get to the Lakes and can help replicate similar sections in training. Even with you stopping to film and visit churches, I think the time it takes you is relative to the race anyway. Looking forward to the next instalment!
Hi Francois glad you like them. That’s a good idea, I’ll put more technical info into the vids. I’ve already run leg 3. Over to Wasdale Head (editing atm) but I’ll switch it up for the rest. Good luck with the recce’s and the race mate. 🤘🏻
Watched this at 0600 this morning before my Brecon horseshoe run, getting smashed by headwind the whole way was a personal highlight 😂 again enjoying the vids!👍
Excellent video recces which are so useful to those of us who live a good distance from the Lakes, Cornwall in my case! I did the 50 this year (‘23 and loved it) and made use of other’s recce videos before the race. I’ve just found your channel and think they are really well done, although my wife has just told me, “don’t go getting ideas” lol 😆
@@lakelandtrailrunner sadly didn’t get a place for next year but am aiming to do a 65mls at 65yrs so will just go and make up my own run! I prefer running on my own if I’m honest much as I loved the atmosphere and community of the Lakeland 50 I’ll just have to do my own thing 👍
hi John, amazing videos! im looking to go to lake district. is there anything you would suggest training wise. i usually do a couple of 6-8miles runs during week and about 10miles on 1day w.end.
Hey Lukus thanks man I appreciate that. So you’re coming to the Lakes? Trail running? Sounds like you’re doing good mileage. I’d recommend doing some hill work: preferably a trail run up a hill and some hill sprints. Failing that.. I used to live in Liverpool.. zero hills! I had to settle for barbell squats. Medium weight, high reps. Ideally both. However, not everyone has the benefits. Hope that helps 🙂
@@lakelandtrailrunner thanks for the reply John. yes hoping to get to the lakes at some point im near colchester so looking to get cheap hotel somewhere near a route then get a good session in. good hills where i am to be fair. awesome advise John. more concerned about routes around the lakes and getting in trouble but have downloaded an app you said about on a video
@@wyou8724 additionally get yourself a pair of poles and practice with them. They’ll help you acclimatise to the increase in elevation. I don’t always run with them but they’re there if I want them 🙂
John I need to say something. Wasdale is pronounced "Was" as in used to be not, i repeat not please not again, "wAs" with a hard A as in pAss. Local heads up for ya marra. Keep up the good work sir 👍
Hahaha duly noted mate.. unfortunately the next leg Boot to Wasdale has already been filmed so you’ll have to grit your teeth through that. However, I’ll correct myself going forward 🙂🤘🏻
Thanks! I’m doing the LL100 this year live pretty far away so recces are going to be difficult. Loved this video and hope you are covering all the legs. Keep it up pal!
Hi John, these videos bring back great memories of the race - at least, like you said, the early sections when you're feeling invisible! The checkpoint at Eskdale is basically where you were standing up to the Office there, with tables and chairs set up outside. Looking forward to next section.
I'm on this years L50 so I'm looking forward to seing your videos from Delemain and beyond.
Part of me wondered if I should have started my videos there as there’ll be more people running the L50. I should be there during March 🤘🏻
Such stunningly beautiful countryside! I swear I could live happily there! Thank you for sharing these recces! Keep pushing John!
Cheers mate glad you like them 👌🏻
