I make trail running videos. Mostly of me running around the English Lake District where I live but elsewhere too..
I'm an A&E nurse. It's a recent career change. One of a few I've had over the years and having graduated a few years ago from nursing college I decided I wanted to move to the Lake District. So here I am.
I've been coming to the Lake District for years but these last few years I've really got to know the place and the seed to start YouTubing was planted by a friend. So I decided to add another dynamic to my trail running and bought a DJI action camera.
Additionally, my brain appreciates the attention and dopamine hit it gets from all the subscriptions and views so I thank you if you're one of those. Quite frankly I'm amazed you've read this far.
I hope you enjoy these videos. I enjoy making them.
Who knows where this will take me.
Thanks for reading this far and maybe I'll see you ont fells.

LAKE DISTRICT FELL RUNNING | SCREE CHUTES | PIKE OF STICKLE
I go for another run in and around Langdale and go in search of a Neolithic stone axe factory reported to be below the Pike of Stickle. Additionally, I run down the scree chute distinctive to the fell, It's an awesome descent and a lot of fun but not for the faint hearted.
This is another training run. I've been replacing leg day in the gym for mountain ascents and descents while the weather is still relatively good.
Winter has arrived here in the Lakes, the temperature's dropped and and I'll have to stop wearing shorts soon.
But not quite yet.
Thanks for watching.

I'm curious to how many views it'll get as my audience engagement for this channel is terrible. This was a short 8 mile run up and over Kentmere Pike via Nan Bield Pass and Harter Fell. I love this loop and coming off Kentmere Pike is a lovely fast grassy descent. Oh yes and I'm running...

My recent recce of the Sedbergh Hills fell race. This race take place next Sunday 18th August 2024. Looks like a Sunday morning Hash House Harriers run with no back checks! Gluwein at the end is always a benefit in the cold. Kudos to any and all who completes this in winter or summer with a heavily loaded Bergen or MOLLE. 🙏🏻
Hi John. Enjoyed that very much. The pillars up there were built by the surveyors of the pipeline far below from Haweswater to Longsleddale and onwards to Manchester. Wainwright recalls walking the valley in the 50s. The whole length from the A6 bus stop. He then explored the head and sleept in the quarry buildings after the closure of Wrengill in 48. They are long since gone. It is as you say a delightful largely unspoilt corner of the Park, and we have spent 10+ holidays at the top of Longsleddale and explored every cranny. The bothy I believe was a farmstead rather than a miner's house. Thanks again for your hard work in producing a great upload.
Great video bud , i was up there today , similar conditions to your vid and there was a selection process going on , i spoke to a lad he completed it in 3hr 40 , unreal fitness on these lads
Short/Long...always great stuff...thank you John...
Great video, did this leg a few weeks ago.
Top video mate. Like the look of that climb. Will tell you a tale of Langstrath next time I see you!
Awesome video mate. That looks a cracking scree run. Smaller aggregates than those breeze blocks on Jura 😆
John, my wife wants you to put up the music you've used on this and your other videos, particularly this one and another she's watched, (5 tips about fell running), please. Great tunes as well as great videos, enjoyable, accessible.. Thanks

Excellent account. Enjoyed watching great music choice 👍
@@runtothetrails glad you liked it mate 👌🏻
Good work, John. Personally, I find the BG line up to Bowfell the worst line on the entire round, especially when it's damp. Most exciting scree run I've done is the direct line down in the Ben Nevis race, followed by the Borrowdale line off SP. I'll tell you another good one you could try although I know it's a trek for you: Red Gill off Grasmoor; it's really nice (comes off its SW side, go west from the summit). Yet to do the one you did in this run as like you, ran past so many times & told myself I'll get around to doing it at some point! Hope you're well mate :)
@@EltonIntFells nice one mate I’ll give Red Gill a go definitely, might wait till summer now.. or not 🤔☺️ I’m definitly up for doing Ben Nevis next year, I just have to remember to register when they open entries, places go fast!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Enjoyed. Langdale is right next door to my Loughrigg backyard! It’s a cracking valley. Away last weekend but back home this weekend for my usual weekend in’t fells. Watching the weather as the weekend draws near. Thanks for all the effort producing and sharing these videos. I watched the Lords Rake one from last Dec / Jan. great watch. Another pair of shoes 😂 thinking of heading from grasmere to coast to coast path up on to helvellyn and along tops into threkeld. Off to source some micro spikes 👍
@@colinboxall2692 got my microspikes on Amazon mate, some random brand, £21, they’ve been great 👌🏻 I’m hoping the weather’s good this weekend too! ☺️
Hi m8 how often do you get to do this on average and do you do any supplement work other than the hills as looking to get into fell runs th?
@@Nofixedabode859 most weeks mate (I live in the Lakes) however, for supplemental work I do strength training in the gym :)
Excellent stuff John. Keep up the good work 👍
Well done with that nifty scree running John. 👍 I once shreded my ass and shorts coming down red scree near Kirkstone.😅 Im laughing but it wasn't fun at the time. Just shows how careful you should be with the stuff. PS. What are the little stickers you often randomly have on your jackets mate? Great music BTW 👌⛷️
@@skiboard2007 thanks mate. Haha yup I’ve shredded shorts too! The stickers are to stop the filling coming out of my jackets. I keep snagging and tearing them. The jacket in this video is 20 years old!
Great stuff John...very enjoyable...keep on keeping on...
Great video mate, managed to capture some wonderful landscape footage considering clag was down, love the shots of you running with the incredible back drop and the moody music very fitting. Good idea sacking Bowfell off in them conditions, when you know, you know ;)
@@aaronhargreaves7873 haha so true iykyk 😉
Really enjoyed this - thank you so much for posting. I used to live Penrith way (20+ years ago), and did a fair bit of walking in the fells, plus running some of the easier/smaller fells. Remembering what a treat it is to have a day like this - maybe even more so when it's out of peak season, so it's a bit grey and misty, and you mostly get the fells to yourself. What a treat also to have such an almost infinite choice of routes - you could do a different run every day of the year, and they'd all be good! 😊
@@andrewwoodward8810 that’s true you can! 😂 glad you’re enjoying the vids :) 👌🏻

Enjoyed that John. Many thanks for the footage and much missed waffles.😊 And in one of my all time favourite lakes area's. I've just got out of hospital after even more surgery and to see and almost breathe the fells along with you felt awesome 👍 I'm glad the change of tact with the strength training is paying off too. I've never been a fan of building leg strength at gyms for downhill running or speed. I have the thinist legs in the world and used to pass tons of heavy set runners on the downhills. Look forward to the next one. BW Pete
Thanks Pete much appreciated, glad I could help in some small way, hope the recovery goes well. I can definitly feel my downhill running getting better and my knees getting stronger.

Ha - I was up on High Raise on Sunday am and the weather was the same! The rocks are really slippy atm. Ended up on my backside three times even with my VJ xtrm shoes. My route is Grasmere into Far Easedale, sergeant man, High raise, greenup down lining crag into Rosthwaite on the C2C route and then head over road and river side paths into grange. @ many thanks indeed. Awesome. Fell running is my next plan
@ it’s between these trainers, Inov8 Mudtalon Speed or Scott Supertrac RC Speed.
@@Ray_Runs_Ultras the Mudtalon Speed’s are a solid shoe the outsole is more aggressive than the RC. I haven’t run in the RC’s I was put off by the lack of lugs however, I can’t say if that translates poorly on the ground I’d need to use them. I feel the RC is more of a race shoe than a training shoe additionally, there’s no insole.. something I’ve never got on with. I race in the Terrex Speed SG’s and have put insoles in.

Great vid as usual, John. Hair's growing mate! The traverse lines around Great Gable are wonderful; a pain in the wet though and can be easy to lose in clag....in the dry though they're a blast! Weather like you had does make for atmosphere though, just below main cloud base at least; I tried to get above it last Sunday up to Pillar, no such luck. Likewise with the cost of these 'big brand' races charging the odds...for me personally, I could pay that but out of principle for a 22 miler I won't especially when I live here and could run that route any time. Each to their own though. I'll pay for an ultra as more 'value for money' where mileage is concerned. Pretty sure with all the entries they get, Rab certainly don't need to charge that much! Come do Ennerdale again in June John for £15...AND you get an extra mile :D
@@EltonIntFells hahaha yeah I was thinking the same as I was going around “this is pretty much the same a Wasdale but with flags and an aid station” ☺️ mate Ennerdale holds a permanent fixture in my heart. I’ll do it every year :) 🤘🏻
