Another stellar video mate. No bitty required? Loved the pheasantcam. Cracking group of fells and that run off Barrow is a joy! Run it, but never raced it, tempting. Sterling stuff as always 👍
Did a recce of this today conditions were horrendous hail and gales 😂 the weather comedy double act. Route finding is pretty straight forward will deffo do race this year
Great vid as ever. Been thinking of this as my first fell race and this might just make me bite the bullet! Cheers Bud and Happy New Year. Keep them coming John!
First day back in the home office and watching this - nice 1st day back. I was up therei n 45mph winds in mid/late November and got so battered my ME shell jacket seams failed ! Coledale is a lovely place when sun and visibility is good, as is just about all of the Lakes, but when visibility drops below 500/600 metres it becomes Ines very disorientating!
Nice one, John (it's Elton btw) Coledale HS is a lovely yet testing route. You can extend it to make it a bit longer by following west along Gasgale Crags from Hopegill Head (one of the best lines in the Lakes, IMO) and descending to Crummock then climbing back up Lad Hows to Grasmoor (bitch of a climb), then to Wandope to rejoin the main route from Crag Hill. Pushes up to 25km ish. Gotta love the Grisedale Grind ;) Didn't know they were doing long-sleeve tops; oh wait, you've got a long sleeve under it :D I've got the t-shirt too & looking forward to exhibition :)
Hi Elton, nice one mate that’s definitely a cheeky addition. It’s been a while since I’ve done that route so definitely time for a repeat. It’ll be good prep for Jura if I get a place 👌🏻 You doing the Coledale?
Have a good new year. This is my fav/go to running channel. I regularly stay at Ravenglass, but havnt done much "fell running" up there. (Did do scafell pike,up and down,in 2 and half hours from Wasdale).
UTS May 2024, classic oh flip moment 😂 Thanks for the tour's of the fells this year. Hope to see more waffling, bitty and a bit of bombing it next year. All the best for you n yours. Gary n Kathy
That moment when you remembered the 100km ultra you'd signed up for was gold mate 😂 I think I'd hire a coach given the funds but i also have to prioritise paying the bills at the moment.
Happy new year I find Phil Maffetone book 'endurance training and racing' really good for structuring training without a coach and without having to do x on this day plan etc.
I absolutely love this route, and well done for picking a lovely day for it. Thank you for your documentation as always! P.S. Which exercises would you recommend for strengthening the knees as I am having trouble with them a bit myself.
Thanks man glad you enjoyed it 👌🏻 on the knees front mate I’d start out with barbell back squats and Bulgarian split squats but make sure your form is good before you start loading on the weight. There’s loads of good ‘how to vids’ on here to teach yourself 🙂
Hi John. Great training run, absolutely stunning. Any chance you could share a little background on your history with running (during future vid)? Would love to know how much experience you had on your legs before tackling the likes of fell running. As ever, great content! Really looking forward to watching the channel continue to grow through 2024.
Is it just me? Can't hear a thing after when you are leaving your car :-) (only the music that kicks in after a while) but this happens in in all your vids (not the first one,s only the last few). just wondering...

Do it mate. It’ll be a good start to the season. I’m going to kick off the season with Black Combe 👌🏻

Thanks Colin I appreciate that 👌🏻 winds are the bane of fell runners! would always choose rain over wind 😂

Ah yes Dr Phil Maffetone I’ve dabbled in his method on occasion over the years he’s definitely on to something 👌🏻☺️
