Taking on The Dragons Back is a documentary film covering two friends as they attempt the Dragons Back Race in Wales.
Graham Cooper and James Barlow took part in the 2022 Dragons Back Race which is held every year. They run 380km from Conwy down the spine of Wales to Cardiff covering the biggest mountain ranges and a total of 17,000m of elevation.
This ultra running film documents their journey and how it unfolded.

Love this! Same here my mental health had declined massively due to family issues. I got back into my running in February this year and now have a 50K ultra in July!

Nicely documented, enjoyed it. Was hiking in wales and saw some runners, one guy ran by us and after a good while he ran back past cause he'd taken the wrong turn for marathon, kudos to that guy.

I loved this film from start to finish! Beautifully crafted as always. The 45 second sequence starting around 1:32:00 was an absolute highlight that brought a huge smile to my face. Total respect for both of these guys and for all who took part in the race.

I’ve never done the actual race, but have done all the sections but without the time restriction……that’s a stress, and chwarae teg (fair play) lads, you did so very well.

Great documentary and a brave performance by both runners! It really does a good job at portraying the dichotomy between the beauty of the landscape, the journey and the act of testing limits and the evergrowing fatigue and exhaustion.

Great film guys 👏. I DNf'd in 2021 due to a torn ACL and meniscus, will be back in 25 to complete it. Spine this year tho.
Brutal, i tore my MCL about 15 years ago so sorta know what you went through. James from the film is doing the spine next year too so you should bump in to him at some point, all the best with that and thanks for watching!!

Amazing journey, felt so bad for James, he was so close when he had to pull out. The seed of maybe doing this beast someday is now planted in my head!
Yes it was unfortunate, but he's a strong guy and has bounced back finishing the Arc of Attrition 100 miler, Cheviot Goat and he just did the The Spine Challenger in January and I think he is attempting the full Spine in January next year. @KelpAndFern was booked on dragons back 2021 but got diagnosed with a rare brain condition so had to cancel it

You wont regret it! There are a number of phenomenal races in Wales that you could attempt, another company is called the Wild Horse 200 who I can't recommend enough if you're looking at multi day races.

Absolutely wonderful watch, beautifully filmed and a great effort from those guys. Would you say the entry price was fair? I'd expected a lot more support (mainly nutritional) for the money.
