The Corris Round - An award winning film - A lockdown inspired Ultra Run in Southern Snowdonia

- Initially during the first lockdown, twelve year old Tom was content with local walks, some climbing and watching videos on RUclips. As the days he passed and it was clear that lockdown was not going to end quickly he decided he needed a project - his own version of The Bob Graham Round that he could do from his front door.
He got out maps and guidebooks, roped his Dad into exploring with him and together they came up with the Corris Round - his very own, Nicky Spinks inspired, Ultra Run from his front door.
Along the way he learned about a famous neighbour - John Disley - who used to live on his street and went on to found The London Marathon, win an Olympic Medal and collapse on the Welsh 3000 challenge due to lack of food. Not a mistake that Tom will repeat thanks to help from his Mum & sister along the way.
This film premiered at the Kendal Mountain Festival in the autumn of 2020, won the "John Muir Trust Wild Places Film Prize" at Fort William Mountain Festival and is kindly supported by Montane.
Although I don't generally put my work onto this RUclips channel (my other films are all on Vimeo) I thought I would make the exception with this one as it was really just me out with my mates. I hope you enjoy it.

I met Tom a few days ago at The Outward Bound Trust Camp In Wales, Aberdovey. He was very friendly and told us about this! :)
Seeing a dad and son with this kind of bond gives me hope and inspires my soul...
There's a future Kilian Jornet there. Nicky Spinks was right to pick up on the fact he's well beyond his years in his ability to understand pacing, and something about his running form seems incredibly natural. A wonderful father and son adventure.
Thanks very much indeed.
Spot on, watch this space I'd say. Wonderful story and great film work, well done.
Amazing kid, Tom. Extremely lucky to have such a father. His running form is so efficient and flawless. He definitely has a bright future ahead of him.
Yes, they're both really inspiring eh!
An inspiring story of a man and his son sharing the challenge and joy of running through some of the most spectacular terrain in the UK.
The interviews with other local runners adds to the cultural tradition of the fells and the hardy people who grow up there to this day.
This video brings back fond memories of me taking my son, and later my two daughters, on camping trips to the Lake District. My son was only 10 when we walked togther over some of the iconic hills of the area: Scafell Pike, Haystacks and Helvelyn.
Some years later, my youngest daughter was so inspired by a trip to Snowdon when she was 14, that a couple of years later she did the 3 Peaks Challenge. Unfortunately, I wasn't fit enough to go with her, so a good friend of mine helped out. They both completed the challenge well within the 24 hours. I did manage to start with them, as me and my eldest, my son, took a more leisurely hike up and down Ben Nevis. We then drove through the night to meet them at Snowdon. Epic times, unforgettable experiences that bond people for a lifetime.
You inspired me to do something challenging with my 13 year old. This film was brilliant!
That’s fantastic 😀👍
What a lovely kid Tom is. Great attitude. Well done son and father.
Thanks very much 😀👍
parents can only dream of such a kid. im always impressed and amazed by young people who can focus on a goal and show true determination. its wonderful!
Great film! I can't believe how well that 12-year-old did! I sure hope my 7-year-old continues to learn to love running and eventually does some long runs like this with me someday. Totally awesome!
Thanks very much and happy running 😀👍
What a brilliant film and what an inspirational young man! He must have very proud parents!
So much respect for both the 'lads' and for the amazing support team. Greetings from Sydney, Australia
Message for Tom: wow, well done! Last year I ran an ultra race in Snowdonia, it was brutal... (I'm a flatlander from Belgium) and you just keep on going with a smile on your face, that's the spirit! Keep on going young fella!
Thanks very much - I will pass this on to Tom :-)
Fantastic film. Great music, great story, great kid. Wonderfully filmed, excellent sound and picture quality.
Tom’s an absolute champion! What an inspiration. Definitely making a trip to Corris to take on the round when restrictions lift!
Thanks very much indeed and that would be great!
Well done that lad (and his dad).
Truly inspiring film
Brilliant well done, fantastic achievement at that age !
Thanks Jonathan.
Awesome! My son (now 17yrs) runs with me regularly and has done for a number of years. My daughter (15yrs) has also outside of her netball excursions. Trail running is so good for the soul and connecting with each other. The family that exercises together stays together. Well done Tom, Dad, support runners/crew and family.
A really beautiful and inspiring film, thank you. Best wishes from another father-son(s) combo in Perthshire, Scotland.
Only just found this short film, absolutely loved it !

Fantastic film - I was smiling from ear to ear throughout! What a little star Tom is, he's certainly inspired me! I'll be doing the Corris Round this summer without a doubt!! Thank you for filming and sharing so we too can have hours of fun in the mountains!
Well done Tom, what an incredible achievement.
Amazing story, very well made! Congratulations to the boy and his father! Love from Bulgaria!
Thanks very much 😀👍
Superb film, thanks Rob. Massive kudos to Tom; there's not many twelve year old lads in the UK that could do what he does! Fantastic achievement. Great to have input from Nicky too. Love all those hills in that area and certainly makes me want to go and run the route they did :)
Hey nice one, thanks very much. Let us know if you run it - Tom would be chuffed!
Congratulations to this young boy!! He´s got the mountain legs, indeed. I hope he keeps running for the joy of it. Digging every kilometer.
Well said!
Fantastic effort Tom and Huw and your family and friends forming your support Crew! No doubt your feet were wet running through the mountain dew, despite the discomfort you pushed on through. May you always appreciate the mountain view!!! ... Bad Rhyming aside, a really motivating film about an adventure in arguably the most beautiful part of Wales.
I watch a lot of Ultra‘s but this one was brilliant!
So impressed and inspired!
Thank you Tom for reminding me that age doesn’t matter if you have passion and determination!
I hope I will see and hear more of you!
Amazing film, brilliant to see Dad n Lad experiencing this together and Tom is an absolute inspiration :)
This is brilliant - what a great story! It's another route to add to the post-pandemic bucket list!
Wonderful, guys!! Master Tom, you are a machine! Fantastic job. And to your Mom & Dad; you're both doing an excellent job. My hat's off to you both. Tom might enjoy the daddy-daughter runs I have on my channel. We started running together when she was 12, and a decade later, are still at it....and I'm now 58.
Thanks very much for filming and sharing! Lovely story, well told and well shot. Congrats to Tom & Huw both for imagining and completing such a cool goal in their own 'backyard' (and it's hard to beat a backyard like Snowdonia ;-) )
Wonderful film, great fun watching. Have subbed.
Thanks for the sub!
Superb run guys. Love going wild camping with my 10 year old, so it was brilliant to see this. I'm inspired to drop my big boots and dig my fell shoes out! Well done.
Soooooo amazing......such a beautiful connection.....truly inspirational! A future running star in the making! Congratulations 🥳
Lovely film and great story. Thanks for sharing Rob, and please pass on my congratulations to Tom and Huw. Incredible effort and achievement by them both, but obviously especially by Tom.

Thanks very much.
Awesome work Rob!! Amazing film
I’m staying in the Dysynni Valley in August for a few weeks and will recce some of this round as I’d like to do it for a charity run next year.
I’ve chosen The Corris Round as I moved to Corris when I was 3 and attended school there for a few years, so I’m grateful to you both for thinking this brilliant round up and giving me the chance to follow in your very capable footsteps and reconnecting to my first home in Wales.
Diolch yn fawr iawn!
Really nice! I enjoyed it! Lovely place, made me want to go there and run...
Brilliant - that's what we wanted - thanks very much.
Wonderful film and a great achievement!
What a beautiful film. Some amazing running. Well done.
What a fantastic film and awesome tale. Hope Tom keeps smashing those hills maybe setting a few round records one day!!
Loved that, well done Tom! Fantastic effort, very inspiring
Thanks very much indeed.
What an amazing young man! Well done to the pair of you 💪🏻💪🏻
There was a 12 year old Tom who asked his dad "How many times would I need to run around the yard to run a mile?". He gave the boy the width and length and told the boy to calculate the distance. That happened on the day of the 1972 Olympic Marathon and the boy still runs.
Great film is this mate. Inspired me to get my son out with me more and go running on our back area. Cheers and keep up the good work 👏
Thanks very much, thats awesome!
That looks like a stunning round. What a great effort from Huw and Tom, inspiring stuff.

Well done boys. There’s a future champion there 👍🍷
