Thanks for showing how to take off the most important part, the compressor. Nice bud nice. Very helpful.
Have a 2000 Yukon. Your the first video I have found showing the high pressure line fitting disassembly. Thank You.
Well Thank goodness they finally put enough bolts in a power steering unit to make it easier to pull the whole fringing engine to get to it easer , after all these decades of just 3 bolts / nuts and 2 lines Finally they made it so much easier just to yank the engine to get to it ,
FYI to all, you can remove the fan by leaving the belt on, grabbing an adjustable wrench and a 3/8 socket, put tension on the belt and crack the fan loose. It's a quick 2 seconds
not my fan ^^
Have a questions iv asked all my local autopart store for that sensor or valve but no one know what I am asking about where do i find a new one mine melted please help idk what that sensor or solenoid is called for the valve on the back of it for the high pressure line I don't know what that is what's it called and where do I get it cuz I cannot find it anywhere
@@MrMrBurnablunt You have probably sorted it by now but here it is for anyone else. GM has done away with that valve, this is the new part you need. www.pwrsteer.com/resources-pdfs/60-5001R_and_60-5009R_GM_EVO_TSB.pdf
@Casey Cleland well with the limited information about "a sensor" in a truck that has 20 sensors you gotta help us try and identify it. Where is it located specifically. Is it big or small? Does it have a lot of wires or just one or two?
@@MrMrBurnablunt I'm in the process of replacing my pump and I found that "valve " is no longer made but you can get a pump with a " U " shaped pipe in place of the valve as it was only used for a few years and caused more problems then it was worth. It took inputs from the speed of the truck ,steering wheel position and turned down the power asset at higher speeds.
Your video was real helpful... I got the power steering/pulley job done today on my truck... 5.7L Vortec w/EVO for power steering assist will get people the right pump if you have sensor on pump.. I think you have to tell them that or you will get the wrong pump like I did... I took it back & went to where you suggested... Thanks Again !!!
Awsome I'm glad it went well for you thanks again for watchin.
Where do you suggest we buy the pump and evo sensor i must of kissed that part
Thanks! I like the video, thanks for describing the socket sizes. I did damage my sensor pulling the pump so I have to find another, but with your information I feel I am on the right track!
thanks for watching im glad I was able to help
Your doing well, I researched the EVO sensor. It is obsolete apparently it can cause steering issues. There is a dorman and GM kit that replaces , the sensor on the back of the pump. Dorman 926-049 $36, GM double $ in this case same, same. Variable steering bypass tube.
thanks for the evpart number ,alot of viewers questions are where to find a new sensor. thanks again
Evo system is two pieces, the evo piece by the pump just varies the pressure, the peice on the steering reports the position and error code.
Questions about the Evo what did gm do about this sensor.. So it's absolet.. Then how do replace if we broke it.
Great information on this project. I snapped the shaft on mine after not purging it properly after leaking high pressure line replacement. My doom azz. I watched this video after I pulled the pump today. You explained why shaft and pulley yanked right out when attempting pulley removal. It had kersnapped off inside. It would've definitely made life easier if I had watched it prior to line replacement for purging process and again after the old pump went perflunk. Proper prior preparation prevents piss poor performance. The seven P's!!😉
The pump description at the parts store said the valve and sensor assembly is a bypass. Must keep it at needed pressure without going too high.
I'll definitely get the wheels off the ground and go forth and back before I put the fire to it this time. Thanks.
Oh and a monster adjustable wrench did the trick on the fan for me with my chain grips on the pulley. Made me feel slightly better I got that part done easily. 😁😉 The tool knows what it was designed for.....the wielder must learn the execution.
Thanks again!!🔧🔩
Thanks for watchin I really apreciate ut. I'm glad I was able to help you. Besure to like and subscribe for more tips and tricks
Explain what you mean put the fire to it confused
I'm confused what did yiu have snap off and what I'm confused
@@MrMrBurnablunt I meant start it.
Bring the Thunder 😁😂🔥⚡
@@MrMrBurnablunt The pump shaft can snap in two if the pump get's an air pocket. It happened to mine and brought me to this video for pointers.
Nice job. Very helpful. Thanks!
thanks for watchin really appreciate it
I’m glad I didn’t watch this before doing this same job. I managed to do it without removing the fan or the compressor. Super easy
thanks for watchin yeah it's every body prefrence how they do it . I like have ING extra room for my hands and not hitting them on the fan all the time
@@fixergood I can understand that, more room is better for sure
Good video it's straight to the point not 5 hours of discussing personal preferences of how to do things and why 🤣 don't have to fast forward through 45 minutes of stuff that has nothing to do with anything 👍
thanks that's exactly what I'm going for in my videos
Thank you it whas very good information i just change water pump but now i think it is the power steering pump that is leaking 😔
Thanks man, always helpful to see it done first

great video very informative and to the point hx
Good stuff sir good stuff!
Thanks for watchin really apreciate it
Thanks a heap. Trying to get mine off my 3500 express and can not see that rear bracket nut or bolt on the block.
Good info!
thanks for watching
Thanks it works!❤

@@fixergood how much is the price range for this job cost?
@@franciscodiaz9477 I'm not sure proball y at least 500 thanks for watchin
thank you u awesome
You totally don't need to remove the fan, or shroud, it's a pain but doable. At least on the 4.3 and 5.7
yeah I get that, but more room means less frustration and less things broken on accident. thanks for watching
Thanks for the video ✌
Make sure to fully seat the pulley bolt so all of the pulleys line up or you'll get belt squeal 😩
When you changed out the EVO valve where did you get the correct o rings as these pumps usually only have one that fits the actuator.
Nice thanks
I have a 1997 GMC Savanna Van 2500 w/ 350. I have a very small drip coming from the sensor area. I tried tightening up the bracket that the sensor sites on and it seemed to help a little. Does these normally start to leak from there and is there any way to repair that area if that’s where it’s leaking from or would it be better to just replace everything or what do you recommend. Also the van has 260000 miles on it but run very good. I thank you for your time and help.
Couldn't hang got dizzy. Perhaps you could increase the zoom so we can see the microscopic particles that make up the dirt on the engine and maybe any DNA of various peoples.??
They make it fairly difficult on the pulley
Does the power steering pump have anything to do with the engine oil such as passing it through the system? I have a major oil leak behind my water pump and power steering, most of the right side of the engine is soaked. And suggestions?
The power steering is a seprat system in that area you could have a power steering hose and may a valve cover leak that's giving you issues thanks for watchin
Doing same job.. same truck.. New pump has reduced nut for sensor. Does that nut screw out so I can replace sensor as it was on old pump? If it's sealed I just don't want to cause it to leak...
If you already have the stud part hanging out for the sensor I would not disturbed the new part any more then you need to to prevent any accidentally leaks. Thanks for watchin besure to line and subscribe for more tips and tricks
That cockpit back behind the wheel looks exactly like my 1997 c3500 GMC Sierra SLE dually have steering box on the way from O'Reilly's with bypass tube... I suddenly lost power steering and brakes as it was intermittent a while before it eventually totally failed seem to be an electrical short at that valve I can notice both wires grounding out bad housing... All the mechanics tend to say that truck is too heavy to work on I'm on a blacklist.. model discontinued says the dealer don't even bring it... Suffice it to say I must become my own mechanic. With a 4-ton Daytona jack I purchased from harbor freight thinking about going back and getting the 22 ton jack.. to let the apprehensive mechanics use..
change the gearbox power steering pump and it idle wheels are hard to turn but if you give it gas or driving it turns easy can't find the problem
Same here... Did you find the problem???
My 1998 k1500 has just started doing the same thing. Did you find what was causing it to do that?
Pump is bad. You got a dud. Unless one of your PS pressure lines are busted... your reservoir would be dry all of the time if that was the issue
Also if your lines are not leaking listen to 5:19-5:23 in the video.. he mentions a seal that if it isn't placed back in or if it is damaged it will cause the pump not to work at all.
I have a question i bought a power steering pump does it make a difference if it has the sensor or not does it affect the engine
My question is, since I'm working into a week over the predicted time of completion,. The bracket underneath or thebak of pump what's it's detail on going back together? And more importantly what's the oring detail for the pressure valve or inlet valve to the back of pump. You show the best detail of install hands down , could u tell me the five small orings order? This is a 911 typeof question . Any help will be more than appreciated THANK YOU FORYOUVIDS!
Question : I'm removing and installing a PS PUMP on a 98 GMC 5.7 im not sure if replacement pump has the valve I need to check to see I know it didn't come with the sensor and that whole component. If I discover that the replacement pump don't have the valve taking the valve out of the bad pump is it easy to remove and how to remove it.
some times they come with the pressure valve ,its fairly easy to check thanks fr watchin really apreciate it.
@@fixergood thanks for responding, yes the valve just falls out no tools required .I learned a lot on this 98 GMC ,5.7 4×4 PS pump removal and install . I first need to say watching your video made the job more manageable. The pump I removed had the EVO = sensor setup . On this replacement PS pump I scrapped the EVO idea and went with the new designed U shaped tubing which performs the same function. A person could go to a Chevy dealer and pay $100.00 for this small piece of U shaped tubing or shop O'Reilly's and get the whole thing pump included for $89.00 . For anyone reading this Do not go to auto Zone for your PS pump 98 chevy and newer , thats if you do not have that tubing already on the pump your removing, because auto zone doesn't carry it nor can they order it. Thats my experience ,hope it helps.
If my pump doesnt have that sensor just install a pump without it rite? 99 tahoe 4x4 5.7 by the way.
On some make and models yhe sensor is optional so if your original equipment dosent have it, the new pump should also not have it. Thanks for watchin be sure to like and subscribe for more tips and tricks
@@fixergood thanks
@Randy Wilson it did have it after all. I just couldnt see it til i was under there. I managed to replace only the lines😊
Where did you get the chain to remove the fan.Or is it another way.
They make a chain took that looks like a pair of vise grips. Usually ty hey come off when you hit the nut with a gan spanner tool and a are hammer
Thanks
What's the part number for the pump you got & what part store? What year truck & was it a5.7L Vortec (as is mine)? Nice video... Thanks
Thanks for watchin I'm too sure what the part number was but it's from advanced autoparts. And I think this was on a earlier style 5.7 like late 90s early 2000s.
What's up
Where did you get the power steering pump pulley from? I can't find one like that. I have a 95 k3500 TBI
Why would my pump be leaking from the little hole I changed the pump and it leaks just the same
What is the chain tool you have wrapped around the pulley? I'm trying to put the pulley back on, but I cant keep the pulley from turning . I'm basically just backing the main bolt out of the pulley shaft when I crank on the pressure bearing.
A tekton 3960 is similar tool, if you put the belt on first I will hold it in place while you spine the fan on or off . Thanks for watchin really apreciate it
@@fixergood I took a closer look and found that the stud, that screws into the pulley shaft, had a slight bend in it causing the pressure bearing to "bottom out" and spin the entire assembly. I didn't realize it until after 45 minutes of fighting and two busted knuckles. I took it back to my local auto parts store and exchanged it for a different one. Pulley went on in 15 minutes. Keep up the god work. Your videos are awesome!!
@@brianwilson8119 thank you I really apreciate it.
Just completed this job and have no power steering any thoughts?
I like the video but had a hard time hearing (with back ground radio playing) I'm past 76 yrs. Going to save. My steering acts like it's on ice sometimes when going around a curve (mostly right turns).
Thanks for watchin really appreciated it, besure to like and subscribe for more tips and tricks
It might be your steering position sensor. My truck would almost give out on turns and cause me to jerk the wheel to correct it.
Can't find wiring harness for my 97 Sierra c3500 SLE either ..only racing harness to be converted
Good video. The whole hammer trick has me a little confused. Not sure what part you were hitting on to loosen fan. I just left my fan on. 98 Chevy 2500. My issue is with the return hose. I think it's with the cooler? It bolts inside the frame right behind bumper. There's not enough room to slide it out. Is my only option to get it out of frame to remove bumper? Can't find videos anywhere.
I'm not sure does ii maybe look like you can get it through the grill if it was removed? Thanks for watchin besure yo like and subscribe for more tips and tricks
Fyi you really don't need to remove the fan at all...
yeah it can be done , but havein extra room is nice so you dont have to hurt your hands or break a fan
What's the part number for the pump? I went to all auto parts stores near me and none have the exact pump. Mine looks exactly like urs.
I'm not sure of the part number I got mine from advanced about parts, if you still have problems you could go to a dealership with a vin number thanks for watching
Ridiculous pondering... I can't figure out the solenoid valve maybe pulls that apparatus back so it would seem to unplung it... would be a default setting for ultimate steering assist in my dream.. unless electricity voltage in varying degrees pulls back that plunger for less steering assist.
.
Agree
If you can't get the pulley off is it still possible to remove pump with pulley attached
No the pully needs to come off in order to give you access to the three power steering bolts. Thanks for watchin really appreciate it besure to like and subscribe for more tips and tricks and check out facebook and instagram and give it a like for more help in the future
most auto parts store will rent a pulley removal tool. And most will give.you a full refund when you return the tool. Kit comes with a tool to reinstall it. Only takes a few mins and you do not need to remove the fan like some people do.
@@chrisv3863 except when the pulley was installed improperly and it takes you 4hrs with a grinder and saw to cut the pulley off :(
Where do the o rings go?
do you have a link or part number for that pulley remover? i can’t find it anywhere
thanks for watchin, if you check out harbor freight they usually have inexpensive pully pullers for just a job. thanks for watchin
What do you do if the sensor on the pump is broken.
Depending on how it's broken theres probally no saving it on something like that you'll probally have to buy a new one thanks for watchin besure to and like and subscribe for more tips and tricks
@@fixergood what's the sensor name
I think it's called a power steering pressure sensor, thanks for watchin be sure to like and subscribe
@@fixergood thank you
Why'd u take the fan off lol ...u better not tell me "so I can fit my pneumatic in there" because if you would have left it on and just use the socket and crescent you would have saved time and a few steps taking apart and putting together, that was kind of unnecessary.
Does that snap on puller also install the pulley? I found the exact same one on eBay but the video didn’t show you putting it back on
The video shows it but I can’t tell if it’s what you used to put it back on
The snap on puller only pulls it off, then you need a installer tool. If you get a unervirsal removal and installer kit it should have one in it. Or I'm sure you could rent a tool from a local parts store and they could point you the right way. Thanks for watchin apreciate it besure to like and subscribe for more helpful tips and tricks .
fixer good thanks man. Yeah I was looking at them on amazon that pulls and installs but they have shady reviews. I went on eBay and found the puller that you used. I’ll look more into the kits on amazon. Thanks again
A 30-second intro? Asinine.
Next time pleas turn your radio down, it's hard to concentrate on what you are saying with it blaring in the background. Other than that this was a very helpful video, thanks for putting it up.
What size is the puller please
For the Evo valve, how many orings did you replace? Did you use the orings that came with the pump?
I'm not sure how many I replaced I I'll see if i can find out and let you know but yes i used new o rings with the kit , thanks for watchin besure to like and susbsribe
fixer good was it hard to put it back in the pump with new orings? I tried putting it back in and it doesn’t want to go in all the way without pushing down with a lot of force. It looks like the new o ring is thicker than the old one. I decided to put the old o ring back on there and it’s leaking around the Evo.
@@dustyvviolin k
no one shows how to get back nuts off,, i been looking at all these vids ,,do you gwt under truck to get to them ???
Thanks for watchin. I usually take the bolts that hold the bracket on off the engine. Then I'm able to move the pump and I need to go get my nuts.
Why did you skip pulling the ac?
Not that it matters much but the stud with the bolt goes on the other side lol
Where can I order the sensor thats on the back of the pump near that 30mm
I'm sure you can ask your local parts store they should be able to help , or look for part numbers on the sensor.
Autozone, carquest, napa,o'reillys, advance. All said part was n/a in there system and couldn't tell me where to go from there. Rock auto also does not sell it or have information on it.
