    In the world of diesel performance, it’s common to hear people claim the 7.3 was the best Powerstroke ever made and that the 6.0 is a boat anchor. It didn’t take long after Ford released the 6.0L Powerstroke for massive problems to be uncovered. Even with the laundry list of problems, the 6.0L is still compared to the 7.3L and a lot of people are curious which one is better, so let’s dive in and figure out which one is better.

      Or the power, cant forget that. 7.3 has no power, 6.0 is better for sure after you address the prone to break parts. But let's be real, the 6.6 duramax is the best diesel on the road ;)

    I'm a diesel tech. 6.0 powerstrokes make me about 70% of my paycheck, that should answer something right?

      You should probably refer these customers to a diesel guy that can actually fix their truck. If 70% of your income in 2019 is 6.0 work, then you obviously have no clue on how to FIX a 6 liter

      Hahah... great post, man. '01 7.3 owner here. No way will I ever sell it. Other than the 4R100 tranny, and a water pump, it has been a tank in 153,000 miles. With a Tri-Power chip, Airraid intake and 4" cat back exhaust, it makes plenty of power for cruising and towing. On the other hand, most 6.0 owners I've talked to.....

      Considering the sheer amount of them are you surprised? They out sold everything for years by 2-1.....It was the best selling diesel engine ever until the 6.7 came along and the 6.0 trucks still go for a premium, ESPECIALLY when bulletproofed.......They are now coming round and hitting 1 mil on the regular.....

      My 2000 excursion has 385k on it and still going g strong with a new trany rebuild but other than that I haven't had to do eany thing to the motor

      439k on my ‘99 7.3. Just put glow plugs in and was please with how clean everything was. Changing the oil and never shut it down hot. No problems so far. Love my 7.3.

      Yeah that 7.3 and 6.0 would pull axels off that Chevrolet get a powerstroke bullet proof it and fix the shit problems yeah and you will not go wrong i got Cummins 5.9 6.7 and 7.3 and 6.0 love my powerstrokes and good ole humming Cummins

      Still sucks after bulletproofing unless you like to take everything off of the engine time and time again breaking every plastic clip and retainer for injectors, turbo, leaks, ficm, wire harness, failures, egr ect... yea I went back to a 7.3 6spd.

      I don’t know that the EPA killed the yellow engine. I think it was more a bunch of bad decisions on Cat’s part that lead to its demise.

      @@caseybhargraves6208 no, it was the EPA making stricter rules for diesel engine emissions that made CAT stop making truck engines. many truck engines made today burn out before 500,000 miles because of the EPA standards that make the engines run hotter

      I watched a vid a couple weeks ago on wether Cat will ever get back into the light truck engine market again. The guy from Cat explained it the when the 3406 was designed, it was never meant to be emissions friendly. As the rules changed with the times, Cat did what they could to stay compliant with new EPA guidelines. But up to a certain point there was nothing more Cat could do to their engines to get the levels and mileages the Feds were mandating. So rather than redesign their motors to be able to stay in the market... they just decided to discontinue the line. I assume you know who Cat sold the rights and designs for their 15 liter motor to.

      @ikaikaboy88 thats why the emissions rules get stricter all the time, they want your engines broke down or in the shop as much as possible. emissions laws are all about slowing the American economy and thats about it. why dont airplanes use DEF or regenerate? they burn fuel by the ton not gallon.
      dont worry in 10 years you will be talking about what propane engine is the best because diesel fuel will be outlawed in most of the US. its all politics.

      mike cubes I agree, still can’t believe something that burns more fuel is better for the environment than something that burns less. But the future for America will be electric vehicles, but they won’t let everyone know how much pollution is spewed making the batteries.

    Trying to rewrite history here, my 03 7.3 has 270,000 miles of very reliable service and the auto transmission has never failed. In California if you "bullet proof" a 6.0 it will not meet our tough EPA regulations! My 7.3 has out lived all my friends 6.0 trucks and they have moved on to different trucks now. I'm keeping my truck,lots of power,great tow vehicle, and it's been one the best trucks I have owned.

    Ive had a 6.4, 6.0 and currently in the 7.3 I pull trailers professionally !!!the 6.0 has great low end torque but after sinking $20,000 into engine repairs in just 250,0000 miles. Well that stinks !!! The 6.4 l did not even last to 200,000 miles and it was toast but it was a nice looking toast in the yard. So I found me a nice 7.3 with a rusted cab I swapped the 7.3l trans and wiring to the 6.4 l truck I now have a very nice 7.3l 2010 f250 that gets 22mpg hwy 15mpg towing and 400hp And not a single bit of trouble in 250,000 miles I drive coast to coast towing a trailer and let me tell you the 7.3 l is fantastic the 6.4l towing the trailer only got 10mpg
    The 6.0l got 13.5 mpg towing the trailer
    But far as towing they all were adequate But the reliability to me is king!!! 7.3l is king!!! I don’t have enough money to buy a 6.7 l but everyone I know only gets 12mpg pulling a trailer still I may not be the fastest out there. But I know I’m the most efficient and reliable out there with the 7.3 l.

      Do you have any more info on your swap or maybe a video. This is something ive been kicking around the idea of. Modern truck and suspension with a nice reliable motor that can get me by until a 6.7 is feasible.

      It’s easy I’m in South Carolina we have no emission standards !! I do not have a video but I didn’t have to do any hack job on anything the trucks were so close in design that I did very minor changes to the chassis

      Most people made a big mistake changing their 6.0 trying to make a race car whit a pickup truck designed to be a pickup truck not a race car . Any way the 6.0 is so good that let the people have some fun with it! For me is just a way to expend money.

      Timothy Bowers How does your 7.3 have 400hp? That does not seem accurate . Torque is what matters in diesels , but the 7.3 didn’t push anywhere near that kind of numbers.

    6 liters are great after about 5k of replacement parts even with proper maintenance. The 7.3 is absolutely bulletproof. Also the 6 liter has powdered metal rods just like the later 7.3 engines

    I own a 99 F250 7.3L. It has a 50 hp Hypertech program. 295,000 miles. I have yet to turn a wrench on it beyond proper maintenance. I need no other truck.

      I just inherited my father's 1999 F-250 7.3L farm truck with 128,000 miles and It still looks great inside and out. The truck has plenty of reliable power and torque for pulling tractors and hauling heavy loads. I'm keeping it stock the way Dad had it, I feel like he is riding shotgun with me while in it.

      Just got a 2001 F250 7.3L with 169,000 on it. I’m never giving up this truck. It’s nice to read comments like this that give me hope that I’m in good hands as long as I keep up with maintenance.

      I never had a diesel I've always ran Chevy trucks with the 6.0 gas because I thought maintenance cost would be more efficient for my company I'm looking at newer Chevys but they don't make long beds so a buddy of mine has a 03 clean as a whistle with the 7.3 in it four-wheel drive dually probably the lariat I don't know if it's an auto or a stick yet I hope it's a stick but he wants 17,5 for it I must have an 8-foot bed The power is nice so should I stick with my Chevy gas or should I start rocking with the big boys ummm

    1997 7.3 Liter International (my brother in law had a 1996 7.3 Liter Caterpillar) F-350 silver crew cab non-dually bought in 2003 with 100k just turned 350k. at 350,014 starter went out. Changed injectors at 200k and torque converter at 210k. May drip a little but I absolutely love it. Has pulled 35 ft loaded cow trailers to the sale barn so many times.....

    It’s not the head gasket thats the problem in the 6.0... it’s the fact that the head bolts stretch that cause the head gasket to leak.

      Actually it's more of a design flaw with them, look at most diesel engines other than maybe some small 4 cylinder econo boxes, they all use 6 head bolts per cylinder where as the 6.0 uses 4, if they wouldve designed the engine from the beggining with 6 headbolts so much couldve been avoided.

      Shaun Bennett thank you for thinking this way. Yeah the 6.0s still wouldve had hpop and turbo problems but what doesnt when its first introduced when everyone was tuning the shit out of diesel without knowing anything about them

      If your gonna make serious power take your block and heads to a good machine shop and have it drilled and tapped for 6.4 studs

    I think I'll stick with my 6.9L. Sure, it's slow and underpowered today. But it can be fixed with WD-40 and a craftsman wrench if something goes wrong.

      I agree. No turbo. So what? I got 22 mpg and pulled 8000# trailers in the oil field. Zero engine issues. Yeah my 460 gas had more power but got 5 mpg pulling that same trailer. And in a cross wind on the Cimmarron turnpike, you ain't gonna go 80 anyway.

    Great video. I’m currently the 2nd owner of my 2006 6.0 it is a f350 king ranch. I have 307k with stock turbo and stock injectors 4 of which have 307k miles on them. Keep clean fluids and OEM filters on it. I haul a 40ft flatbed trailer for a living. 6.0 handles it with out any issues.

    As a owner of both 6.0 & 7.3 I can tell you from experience the 7.3 is hand's down a much better engine. Pulling construction trailers to plowing or hauling the cost of owning and maintenance is much cheaper on the 7.3, from my experience. And you don't have to stick$4-$7,000 in them to make it reliable. Not to mention better fuel economy on the 7.3. the 6.0 is fast no doubt, but if you want fast buy a sports car. There is a reason why the 7.3 has a high resale value.

      You will spend far more on transmissions than Bullet Proofing a 6.0 once. 7.3`s are craptastic, only people that know nothing about diesels want a 7.3. Makes me laugh when people shell out a bunch of money for one.

      @@jimhribar6989 you obviously never owned one, I have owned 6 and my two sons have owned 5 between them, all except one were 7.3s. the other one you guessed it was a 6blow, by the time that pile of junk hit 150,000 miles we replaced the rear differential, egr, oil cooler, turbo, and yes head gaskets! The other 10 trucks other than routine maintenance never gave us a problem. In all my years I've never had to replace a transmission, if you change oil and filter like your supposed to they're bullet proof just like the engine. We have 4 on the road now with 1.2 million miles between them and no issues. They are reliable and durable and in business you can't afford to be down. That my friend is why they hold their value!

      @@haydenmorris5859 I'm 47 and started working on Class 8 Tractors at 9 years old. I have been in the industry my whole life. You take a 6.0 bullet proof it , and it will outperform as well as Save you money (that's why more people still run the 6.0 than the 7.3) I am more than happy you are having success with the old dog. Don't take my word for it , go to powerestrokehelp.com , Bill will tell you the same thing. The first iteration of the 6.0 did have several problems, however by the end of its production run (07 for F-series, 10 for E-series) it had fewer tech bullitens than the 7.3 at the end of its run. As far as the E4OD trans , they are shit! Great half ton trans but that's it. I could go on and on but it doesn't sound like you have the necessary knowledge to keep up. I stated my opinion based on years of experience working on these trucks; take it or leave it.

    7.3 , 7.3 , 7.3 Got in a F350 Fully extend cab . 6speed six with program kit pull my Case 1845C around , pull Trailer with F-250 obit like it was nothing there had it up to. 90 pass RVs semi with long trailer at good pich in the freeway road . You can say I love 7.3

    I own a 03 7.3 Dually which I’ve converted to 13 King Ranch interior, Front end etc/. Keep the 6.0. 6.4 and the 6.7 which I also own my wife drives it.. I’m good with my 7.3

    I have a 2002 7.3 great engine! Just got a boat and with trailer at about 10'000 lbs. Tows with no problems. But I had the tranny overhauled anyway' with triple disc torque converter and extra clutches in first, third, and reverse. 197,000 miles and still going strong. Love my 7.3!!

    I have bought and my 6.0 is 403.000 miles on it and it is still thought ... obviously I did egr delete and replace the injectors but no more issues with it is my daily truck and I love it.
    My 7.3 is 1997 service truck and the transmission just blew up but I'll fix it and put the truck on the road again this one is 225 k miles on it. IM AFORD GUY!

    My 96 7.3L has 361,632 miles on it and it still runs flawlessly. This truck has been the least expensive vehicle to operate that I have ever owned. The only "repairs" I've done have been required maintenance (religiously) and the replacing of wear and tear parts like the cam position sensor and the glowplugs. When I swapped those out this past winter (only as a precaution not from any startup issues) I found the heads were so clean they looked as if they were new. There is zero blowback and the oil (Rotella) is still caramel colored after 5000 miles. I have had zero issues with this truck since new and the body and interior have also held up extremely well. Compared that to my buddy's 6.0 with just over 125k and $10G in repairs or $75k+ for a new truck I'll keep my old 7.3L. My only complaint with this would be the mechanical fuel pump on this early version as it is precarious, although not difficult, to replace.

      2006 6.0 F350 SRW
      247K original injectors, stock engine with secondary oil filtration, blue spring update and coolant filtration.
      at 200K oil cooler and EGR replaced due EGR failure , other than this just regular maintenance and occasional repairs ,front end, brakes, alternator, batteries. I use truck as daily driver for construction work, puling construction trailer occasionally . Biggest nightmare I ever had, it was when dealer mechanic did not plug pigtail correctly on ICP sensor. After 3 weeks of frustration I figured out thanks to Diesel Tech Ron, RP.
      Honestly I can not say bad word about my truck.

      Absolutely. I bought my truck a good friend of mine who was the original owner and he was extremely meticulous as well. A good friend of mine bought a 2007 6.0 From Texas and the truck is mint.
      He dumped 10k into it and had it bulletproofed.
      It’s an awesome Dailey work truck.

    I got to drive a 7.3L we worked on in class in college. It was a nice 1997 truck that pulled the trailer with junk cars on the back just fine. The 6.0 was not out till after I was out of college so I never got to try that truck out.
    I thought the 7.3L had plenty of power and it never let us down no matter how much me beat the snot out of it.

    I have owned both and currently have a 6.0 automatic trans. I loved my 7.3 but could not find a 4 door. So I bought my 6.0 at an amazing price. I immediately got rid of all the emissions crap and did studs. It did not cost much as I did it all myself after watching RUclips videos. I have put 135,000 trouble free miles on it and have had no issues pulling some pretty heavy trailers. Still love the 7.3 but so far I love this 6.0 too!

    I love the 6.0. Great power, Grear sound ect. I have heard of some friends of mine never having a issue 1 with well over 100k miles. Some others... Well they hate them. Problem after problem. I love my 02 7.3. It's not the most powerful, But it gets me where I'm going And back home trouble free. I personally would rather have dependability over power. 7.3 or 5.9 no matter the brand, I like dependable. That's why I choose 7.3 over 6.0.

    My dad has owned 2 7.3s and 2 6.0s and the 7.3 has only had small problems clutch just from use and water pump. His 6.0 had blown head gaskets which caused the Coolant and oil to mix which makes the cooling system fail. The motor would get to over boiling temperatures. And he had to buy a new turbo for the other one which later had another turbo y pipe leak. 2500$ fix for the leak fix and brakes along with 2,600 for gaskets

    I like my 6.0L. I had it Bulletproofed with Oil cooler delete, EGR delete, ARP studs, upgraded HPOP, 5” turbo back straight pipe, BiggDogg heads and DealerProofed with a Mild Edge tuner. I get 22mpg daily driving and average of 18mpg hauling my trailer. Regular maintenance and a ‘light foot’ will keep any Diesel running for a lifetime.

    7.3L 4 life starts Everytime and every once in a while needs a little work but I sure can't complain she's a 1995 Crew cab longbed 24yrs old. I don't think these new ones will last that long their just not made for longevity now a days.

      How much did you spend to bulletproof it though? 10-15k? That's about what I see them run to bulletproof them and you can find a really nice 7.3 for that price, sure it's a slug but doesn't matter how slow you are when I can drive for way longer than you for way less money

      @@spenceriavello753 all in parts and install was around $8200. I spent a little more rebuilding the turbo and other preventive maintenance stuff. Still cheaper than a 2019 f350

    I cannot speak on the 6.0 but I do own the 7.3 with almost 300000 miles on it and I can confidently say I can get in the truck turn the key and it'll start and idle like it's supposed to as smooth as it can be. I make sure the regular maintenance is done as you should with all engines and at some point I'll take it out of service and give it a major overhaul. I feel if I buy a truck I shouldn't have to stick 5 grand in the engine to make sure things don't break and just to have a turbo failure. My own opinion.

    For all the guys saying your 6.0 will walk circles around a 7.3. It's true stock for stock you will but the 10k you have to invest in the truck to make it reliable. I will be making power and I will walk circles around your studded and tuned 6.0 for 10k. I have built a few 7.3's and a few 6.0's but I would never own a 6.0 unless I got it cheap. And yes i know a bulletproof doesn't cost 10k if you do it your self but most people won't. It only cost me 8k and that was overhauling the engine as well.

    Dude, I’ve worked on powerstrokes from 7.3 up to 6.7. As well as the duramax engines, even the pre-electronic diesels. Oh, and yes I’ve also worked on cummins from the 5.9 12v up to current 6.7 common rail engines. Honestly for reliability a ford PS 7.3 is the most reliable even with mild upgrades. The LBZ 6.6 DM was the best reliable engine once the factory injectors got replaced. The Cummins 5.9 24v with the vp44 pump was the best for long lasting use. For power, the Ford PS 6.0, GM DM 6.6 LML and the Cummins 6.7 B-124 are the best engines for building power, for hauling or overall performance. My opinions purely come from working on the engines myself and seeing the weak points. Same goes for the power output, these opinions come from seeing Dyno and road proof of the power output and performance.

    I’ve only owned the 7.3 but I’ve driven the 6.0 and I definitely preferred everything about the 6.0 truck. I still own the 7.3 though and I don’t plan on changing anytime soon.

    I have a 7.3L Powerstroke diesel in my 97 Ford F450 4x4 Extended cab dually utility truck with 313000 miles. Never skipped a single beat on the motor. The E4OD automatic Transmission had a bunch of problems unless you add a deep dish pan and an aux trans cooler and better torque converters.
    My 7.3 is old reliable.

    Im team 7.3 all the way! A turbo upgrade with an upgraded wastegate actuator along with average every day upgrades air intake,tune, exhaust etc. Will go along way. i’ve had the 6.0s and the 6.7’s and had nothing but problems got rid of them and bought a good 1999 Ford and completely refurbished it inside and out including engine and drivetrain instead of buying a new truck and I’m really happy with my decision especially since I saved myself about 50k and no DPF. and down the road I’ll start looking for a late model truck that needs an engine which won’t be hard and do a 12 valve Cummins swap.👍😎

    People like to beat on 6.0s like they beat a 12 valve Cummins. Then they can't figure out why they are broke. 6.0s love their maintenance and hate tunes. My 6.0 has 223,000 miles and just now blew up the STC fitting. It is still on its original injectors headgaskets turbo and EGR cooler. I just maintain it like I should and have never turned it. They dont have to be bulletproof to be reliable. They just need to be taken care of.

      Not entirely true. I had a stock 6.0 in an f550. I personally think they should have detuned that engine in the larger truck. It ate egr coolers like candy. And the injectors caused running issues. It went through 4 egr coolers in 200k. However, the engine made it to 240,000 and had almost 14,000 hrs. It had great internals. They just had some issues with emission add ons. Still a good engine imo.

      @@10AF22 mine is just an f250. I have 223,000 miles and it only has 5,000 hours. So if you think about it that would be like having nearly 600,000 miles on my motor. 14,000 is a long time and I've heard idling was a huge killer for EGR coolers. I would be more likely to agree with what you think on the 550 as I've never owned one so I can't say one thing about them, I can just say my experience and what seems to be the same old worn out story that other people have on 6.0s.

      @@10AF22 supposedly one of the underlying reasons for issues in the 6.0 head gaskets (if any occurred) was because they were originally used in school buses, but in order to pass tighter emission standards in trucks ford had to make the engines run hotter

      My 7.3L has 273k miles on it and runs great. My father's 99 7.3L f250 was at 450k miles when it was totaled with nothing but oil changes and fuel filters - and two clutches by then. My brother's '03 7.3L f250 with stage 2 superchip was rock solid at 230k miles when he sold it. His '05 Excursion with the 6.0 blew a head gasket, then needed a new EGR cooler, then an oil cooler. He did beat on it, but he beat on the 7.3L also, and the 7.3L took it and shrugged. THAT'S the difference.

    we have an F250 (1997) crew cab 4 x 4 with the 7.3L and a 2003 Excursion Limited 4 x 4 with the 6.0L - LOVE them both! The Excursion will fly down the road and the F250 tows great - both have been dependable and awesome!

    I have a 7.3 zf5 speed and 4.10 rear end. With 1350000. The only thing added was 6 chip turner. And intercooler. On a 1997. I pull heavy 5 days a week. Very good truck. Would not trade it for any thing out there

    The 6.0 is sought after in my area. They get worked over (studs, turbo) and put into fleets. They love them due to the lack of DEF and reliability compared to the 6.4. When the 6.4 came out it was the death knell for a lot of Ford fans.

      @@seabarnes3570 this is true due to the so-called diesel mechanics that I wouldn't let work on my lawnmower. The industry is filled with these people. Unfortunately it applies to all makes; jobs having to be done several times before they get it fixed. I have two of them both 04 and 15 years of towing I am still running stock headbolts. One of the issues I have noticed is the radiator being filled with debris to the point you are only getting airflow through the top half of the radiator. After 100k pull it and clean it.

      @@asherdie not if properly maintained. It is true during the first couple years manufacturing date of 02 to 9/03. Other than that my experience is some Jackbag put a tuner on it and towed 10-12k up a mountain pass on a race tune, after they blew the head gaskets; they blamed the truck.

      @@jimhribar6989 your experience has been one of luck. One poor sole I know bought two, a king ranch and a regular cab 4x4 manual trans. The king ranch was literally at the dealer for repairs more days than it was in his actual possession. After a year and an attorney the lemon law "protected" him. The other lasted a year before the screens in the oil system let loose and destroyed the engine. Nearly broke him and his one man lawn business. Engineered to fail from the start.
      PS both bone stock except the dealer installed leveling kit and tires.

      @@nuqsyebk1277 my IDI makes 700lb/ft from 300hp and I can fill the tank with veg, waste oil, bio, whatever and it eats it all right up. Can a PSD make bigger numbers? Sure. But for what? Bragging rights? I'll run out of weight long before I run out of power. I can pull a 30ft gooseneck with a full sized (100-200hp) tractor on it and not downshift on hills. 7.3s and 6.0s cost more to replace a couple injectors than I paid for my pump, 6.4s crack pistons, and 6.7s burn out turbos and have emission systems that cost more to replace than I paid for my turbo upgrade. I have put in leather seats and a touchscreen radio. I see 0 benefit to spending 10x what I have in my truck on a rolling repair bill. Electronically and emission controlled diesels are a big no from me.

    Ford didn't have anything to do with either engine. International did. Same for the 6.4. Ford demanded one of the engines, the 6.0, to be put into production before it was ready. On top of that, and after the design was finalized and production was being readied (hurried), Ford demanded a power increase to keep up with their competition.
    That might have been okay...except the first recipients would be Ambulances.
    Unproven engine design. Rushed production. Power increases. EPA-mandated hardware. Ambulances.
    What could go wrong? Breakdowns. With patients in the back. Deaths. Lawsuits. Sullied reputation. Contractual disputes. And, ultimately, the release 6.4. =(
    No mentioning of the differences in the '03-'04 6.0 and the '05-'07 6.0? But we mentioned how many iterations the 7.3 went through? No, even if brief, break-down in the differences in the trucks themselves? OBS to SD? Leafspring to Coil-Over suspension? Oil Cooler issues / Ford Gold Coolant fiasco? CPS Failures?
    Also, the Bullet-Proof kit for the 6.0 makes the 7.3 a "fantastic overall engine with almost no downsides."? >_< How'd that make it through to the final video?
    I do agree that a 6.0, that has a good set of O-Ringed heads, studs, Towing Tune, EGR delete and a new (even OEM, yeah, I said it) Oil Cooler with some Catapiller-certified ELC will make for a long-lasting, powerful truck with a semi-modern interior and nice driveability.
    My favorite truck that Ford put on the road was the '97 OBS F350 7.3 CCLB. OBS look and sound the best, IMO. Well, sound second-best. A cold-start IDI is number 1 in that department!
    Props to you for making videos and posting them online. That takes balls.

    Owned my 2006 6.0 since new.
    I've always over maintained it, ran factory filters and high quality synthetic, arp studed, egr delete after warranty ran out.
    The only problem I have ever had is my FICM went.
    In comparison to a dodge Cummins same year, I'm positive that I have saved money on constant front end and other repairs.

    You will never beat the rugged dependability of a 7.3 I have one and will never own anything else, back in the good old daze you could go buy a brand new 7.3 and drive it and work it all you had to do was keep it serviced with quality filters and oil, you didn't buy it drive it 50,000 miles then have to go pour 5-10 grand in it bulletproofing just to make it run like the 6.0 , the only advantage the 6 litre had in my opinion was turning rpms faster

    my 2004 6.0 with 193000 miles has been pretty trouble free. I did do the egr delete, and only pull lighter trailers (4000-10,000 pound), but it has been rock solid.

    I just bought a 6l Ford excursion, deleted the EGR, running a top notch coolant with filter system and new injectors. Will run hot shots oil treatment. Will be unstoppable! :)

    I own 2 7.3 trucks and 1 6.0 truck. Once I head studded the 6.0 it's a much better truck than the 7.3. Not saying the 7.3 is bad cause they are excellent. They just aren't as good as a 6.0 that's headstudded. Ford should have head studded em from the factory. Anyways this is just my opinion. I see no one is a fan of the 6.0 in except me lol.

    I just rebuilt my 6.0 and I fixed all the known issues with the engine. I use it to pull a horse trailer and it is awesome. I pulled the trailer with a 7.3 and my 6.0 out pulls the 7.3. I think the biggest problem with for 7.3 owners is that parts are getting harder to find.

    I have 4-5 of the 6.0 motors in my fleet, and they do really well, as long as you keep up the maintenance. I think the motor has been around long enough, the Ford dealers know exactly what to look for to ensure these motors are serviced correctly.
    My biggest recommendation, is DO NOT invest into a vehicle with known engine issues.. If you get a solid vehicle and catch the 6.0 before it goes "bad", you'll be just fine.

    Have only owned a 7.3. However, I’ve loved it. Troubles have been with the tranny & peripherals. Have a 2001 F250 & love it.

    Just got a 7.3 and love it. I had a 2019 tundra and its slow compared to it but boy it tows!

    Had a 2005 f350 with the 6.0. It was always in the shop. Traded it in for a 2013 f350 6.2 and have never looked back. The 6.0 made me diesel shy

    6.0 owner here. Oringed and studded heads and while the cab is off do the front cover and replace FICM. Solid truck after that.

    I’ve had both a 7.3 and 6.0 and for what it’s worth I think my 6.0 is hands down better than my 7.3. Pulls harder, has a nicer interior, and just all around funner to drive. And crazy thing is I’ve had more trouble with my 7.3 than my 6.0

      Shaun Bennett well they made a lot more than just one year of the 6.0. For example my 06 Lariat has a lot nicer interior than my 01 Lariat

    I'm not a mechanic and most of this flew over my head, but I really appreciate this video. I see from the video and the great comments below that:
    7.3 L - has less overall repairs, less power but more reliable, 1993-2000 models have better connecting rods, give off more emissions, longer life.
    6 L - more repairs, more power, requires trained mechanics, more prone to failure, passes smog tests, shorter life.
    What was not very clear is which has better MPG overall.
    What would have been nice is if you showed the specs on screen side by side with a blank background. Flashing one, then the other, was not helpful. Also, if you want to appeal to a broader audience, please don't use industry jargon, and explain a bit more clearly. These videos are so useful to anyone who wants to buy an older truck or van. Thanks again!

    You're showing a 6.9l IDI and 7.3l IDI injector pump, and talking about HEUI systems... or am I the only one that noticed?? Also the 7.3l was introduced way before 1994... you need to clarify what 7.3l you're talking about and make sure to get your info and pics right.

      Well the 7.3 powerstroke wasnt introduced untill 1994 the rest were all idi and they share nothing with the idi other than displacement number and lifters, everything else is different.

      You mean Cummins? Screw a Powerstroke. I'm a diehard GM guy all day long and I won't rag on others about their preference but Ford is an absolute joke. I'll walk before I ever drive one. So to get the best of both world's, my 97' GMC CC DRW had GM's piss poor 6.5L diesel that blew up so it's getting a 12 valve Cummins swap and ditching the 4L80E for a NV5600. I'm shooting for at least 650HP at the wheels. Nothing to crazy, just enough to add some bite to that bark.

      @@charlesstevenson5141 I have a 99 7.3 with the stock transmission at 220000. My truck is fine. I love my truck. My engine is programmable without having to upgrade injectors. HEUI injection is cool. Just got to take care of it all. Yeah sure Ford has always been a little weird but still a good truck. My buddy has a 2018 f450 dually with the 6.7 has already put 113000 miles on it and it's a fenominal truck. Another buddy of mine just got a new 3500 ram and it's a great truck. Why do you think Ford are jokes? Other than being a die hard GM guy, cause saying something sucks because you're a fan boy is just a lame comment.

    I bought a 7.3 in 1999 the F350 came with it. My first &
    Maybe last diesel. Still love the truck after 20 years. 123,000 miles. Putting 4” turbo back exhaust on now. Probably have this truck until I meet Jesus .

    Best part about the 6.0...the 5r110 its matted to. That trans is strong as hell! I had a powermaxx turbo, innovative diesel custom tuning, and larger injectors and that thing help it all just fine!

    The only good thing about the 6.0 is how it sounds. But if you need a proper workhorse buy a 7.3 or any Ram with a Cummins.

    Got a friend with a ‘99 f-250 and a 7.3. He just cracked 500,000 with nothing but an alternator. Can’t say the same thing about the transmission though!

    I agree with the last person that commented. I agree that the 7.3 automatic transmission is better and my sole reason for saying this is because I have one! What can I say? I'm a mom and I know my truck pulls my toys (Arabian Horses) and keeps my kids (five) comfortable and safe. Gotta love my truck!
