You only have 140 thousand miles on a diesel and you did all this work? Personally I would have drove it until it blew up and while waiting found a Cummins from a low mile wreck and swapped it just like everyone else.
Great Video we have bullet proofed many 6.0's over the years and after the work was done they were really good trucks. I agree with what you said 100% about the 6.0. The only thing I would add I'd that Ford should had stood behind their trucks and the bullet proofing should have been done under a recall!
I had mine done 3 years ago, and had them replace all of the hoses, belt, and high pressure pump while they had it apart. Best money I ever spent, and I love my 6.0!
2005 6.0L bullet proofed 2 yrs ago, FICM replaced with BP, ARP studs, enhanced fan clutch, replaced alternator, pulling a 39 ft 5th wheel. Pulls like a beasts, ready to cross country! Great video..
Did you see Toyota's placement of the starter on their gas v8? It's inside the engine in the V between banks! Is that engineering insanity or worthy of a promotion because of all the owners walking over to the sales office when they got the replacement estimate from the service dept! Salesman of the year award.
I bought my 2006 F350 because of you guys. I also got it bulletproofed because of you guys. It's been running great! Lots of the upgrades you did, I also had done. I want to thank you for your great diverse content! Mike
Very cool! Yeah, I still love driving our truck. It sprints like a deer and pulls like an ox! With regard to the alternator, if I'd been paying closer attention to my ScanGauge I would've caught the problem earlier. I just swapped the batts and assumed all was well (a bit sloppy on my part). Thanks for your post!
I bought a 240 amp alternator for Bulletproof Diesel to install when I had it worked on. My old alternator killed my FICM. I watch my gauges like a hawk. Something else I have going on weird on the truck, sometimes the mph on my gauges sometimes will not match the real speed and the gas level will be really slow to rise to the correct level. Luckily the Edge CTS2 Insight gauges will tell the correct speed.
Great to hear the bulletproof work was a good investment! Years ago, with my wife and our baby son, our alternator went out on the Poplar Street Bridge, goin over the Mississippi River into St Louis. Fun times!!!
Chevy Rok14 get your self a 12 valve Cummins. With the fss delete and manual transmission it doesn't run off of any electricty. Alternator goes out just laugh at it and keep driving. You won't have good fuel pressure so don't go towing or driving up a mountain like that but you can drive with the key out. Freaks people out lol
I also have a 6.0 and have eliminated some of the known issues as well. I do want to let you know that I had the turbo boots replaced and started having issues with one of them popping off while towing. Not a sound you want to hear on the interstate. Keep parts cleaner with you to clean the oil residue from inside boot. I had a mechanic tell the next and wasn’t sure to believe it. Use hairspray to provide enough stick between the boot and tube. I tried it and it worked. Safe travels. Thanks for the update.
You guys had the bullet proofing done right. I had a 6.0 that was shade tree "bullet proofed" back when we were just learning the problems with the motor and it still had issues until I traded it for a 6.7. I wish I had held onto it a little longer and had the work done right. It would have been a lot cheaper than the 6.7, and I wouldn't have to worry about a DPF system failure.
Great video, I have a Ford F-150 4.6 gas 2006, and about 3 years ago going to Seattle we also had a problem with my alternator and had to have it replaced so I understand and the battery got us to a Firestone shop and got it fixed and needed a new Battery but that is still better than being stranded some where. Yes we have to remember reg maintenance is great but still things will break down.
So glad your experience with bullet proofing Seemore has been positive! It's always great when you find a repair shop that provides top quality work. I guess you always have to keep in mind that if it's made of plastic it will break eventually and anything automotive will eventually have issues that need attention. Great video!
Right after I got my 06 F-350 the alternator died which was a blessing in disguise. While it was sitting in front of the house with 2 dead batteries waiting to get towed to the shop somebody punched the door lock and ignition trying to steal the truck, probably to strip the Kings Ranch wheels and interior. That crummy alternator saved my truck. Taking the F-350 to Bullet Proof after the new year to get the Seemore treatment.
I bought a used 99 Ram with a Cummins in 2003 with 78k on the clock. I now have 330K miles on it, it still gets 20mpg, on my second trans, tires are good, never a death wobble, still looks good, drives good, always had any repairs done with OEM parts, except for fuel transfer pump(went with a Fass) I've always had a engine oil bypass filter on it that filters everything out down to 5 microns. Engine starts instantly every time. Everything else is as it came from the factory. Took it to a shop a year ago for a premature battery failure, 2 people there offered me 10K cash on the spot for it. I think I'll keep it.
If I’d been paying closer attention to my ScanGauge, I think I could’ve done a better job diagnosing the problem. Hopefully I’ll do better next time! 😂
Dachdog I talked my wife through pulling the cam position sensor on her car on the side of the road cause it was dead and I was 7 hours drive from home and she is not at all mechanically inclined but she did great when she needed to and she said alternator too lol
I had the same exact thing happen to me. Stereo went off, ac barely worked and every icon on the planet lit up. I was yelling ALTERNATOR before he said it.
@@LongLongHoneymoon I have a 6.0 with 220k. Scan gauge saved me a blown head gasket when the water/oil delta had risen to 30. Unfortunately I am on my 3rd oil cooler after an EGR delete somewhere during the life of the 2nd. I am also a huge believer in Blackstone oil testing.
Thanks again for your original Bullet Proof video and this follow up. It's been almost 2 years since I had mine done and I haven't had one negative issue. Best investment I ever made, thanks to you. Also, I found out the hard way that when that little battery light turns on it's never the battery. It's always the alternator. Have a happy day!!
glad you had a soft landing with the alternator. Whenever I suspect a battery / charging system problem, I run by the local auto-parts store where most have a load tester that measures the battery capacity and charging capacity of the alternator.
I have a 2006 f250 and got mine dealer proof by Powerstroke in Atlanta GA. Powerstroke offers a lifetime head gasket warranty. I am really happy how the truck performs after the work. Is worth fixing these trucks and don't have to worry about all the new emission systems.
My truck is completely stock, and has spent the entirety of its 22 year life in Alaska, seeing heavy use offroad. Very few parts have been replaced, and those that broke were due to the abuse that truck endured before I owned it. They just don't make them like they used to.
Wow! You guys are SO lucky! You couldn’t have picked a better time or place to break down!! It’s always so stressful when something goes wrong on the road! So glad you got it taken care of with (relatively) little hassle! And hey, you make me want to get my truck bullet-proofed and we have a Dodge Cummins diesel with only 58K miles on it! Another great video from LOLOHO! :)
When you were in West Yellowstone, you were there during a heat wave. I live just over the Mountains from there. And -40° is a normal temp in the winter. Stop back when it actually gets cold and enjoy winter livin.
Sir, I really appreciate your update on the “Bulletproof Diesel” engine. Let me tell you very quickly about my experience on two trucks I owned. First was a Chevrolet Duramax and then a Ford 6.0 Power stroke. I pull a 15,500 lb. trailer throughout North American and Mexico. After a Crankshaft, head gasket and injectors on the Duramax in 125K miles I was talked into Ford 6.0. After 80K miles on the Ford…need I say more. Ford just turned their back on me. After litigation and I didn’t trust a so called “Bulletproof Diesel” fix because of all the money that was in the truck already I was offered a F450 10 cylinder gas with a 100K warranty for some of the settlement. Reluctantly I went along with it…. they beat me down. After 145K on one set of spark plugs…, fuel filter change once a year and oil change every 4 to 5 K I have not had one issue. Fuel mileage 8 to 10 MPG (pulling trailer)…trailer is always on truck….I still hate GM and FMC after the Duramax and 6.0 experiences. I will never buy a FMC/ GM Diesel again. I know I’m going to hear about how much fuel mileage everybody is getting on their Diesel truck… I got 10 to 13 MPG pulling the trailer ….If you’re getting more…good for you. I really miss those “pit stops” changing oil and fuel filters on those Diesel trucks….The cost was so unreasonable. I can pull in to Walmart with the gas truck and get it done for $45 in Alaska. We’re it warm I do it myself… Maybe you Cummins people have got it better…but I’m done putting my life savings in a truck that last 2 to 3 years before putting thousands in it…after paying thousand for it. Did I say…? I still hate Ford and GM ….but the Ford I have now... is ok for now….
Dude I feel your pain. If I did not have to pull stuff I would just have a basic f250 gas and be done with it. Prices have gotten out of hand in 2020 to the point that a truck is the cost of a small farm in Iowa or ohio
Love your videos I have a 2003 f250 6.0 king ranch lwb I love it bought it about a year from my cousin with only 63000 so very low mileage for a 15 years old so all your videos have help thank both of you and be safe out there.
You guys have a good attitude when chaos hits. I have 2005 5.9 3500 cummins and have not had one single problem and that's a good thing because I don't handle chaos well.
We had the same problem with our 03 Ford 6.0 and 05 finally bought a used 08 Chevy Duramax towing 40 ft toyhauler 70% towing living Rv fullltime 200k Miles now .Only had minor issue like door driver actuator won’t unlock have to use key.
God absolutely led you to the Clam Shack! RV park, great food AND a mechanic with a smile. (What's with the floozies?) That's awesome that Seemore is doing so great.
A/C fails are common on all makes and models, not a big deal in my opinion. They usually need to be re-charged with Freon and maybe a small o-ring or two on the line connections may need to be re-placed. On my rigs that usually happens between the 8 to 12 year mark. Often times the A/C fail can be a DIY project. Also, as an Electrician, I have had two alternators go out on my Ford work vans. Both gave up somewhere between 150K and 175K. Great videos and narration. Thanks, Russ
Right but he probably dropped 15-20k on this bullet proofing job and was out of his truck for what I'd assume a week or two. Most people would still have to take out a loan just to afford the bullet proofing job and then take out another loan to pay for their rental car while it's in the shop. And then you have 11 year old tech in your truck, failing seats / interior (possibly) shocks and computer stuff that can all fail, You'd have to really run the numbers to see if it's worth it or not.
They already invested in the truck, and then had to reinvest in it at 85k! The definition of insanity is repeating the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Ford needs to be held accountable, keep buying their products and they will happily keep pumping out untested poorly designed junk.
Truest of words right there! I blew $65,000 Canadian on my F350 back in 2005. You can bet your ass I’ll be doing this procedure when the time comes. I sure as hell will not be spending $80,000+ on a new pickup.
@@jimm2442 Don't blame FORD blame International they are the ones that manufactured the engine. Ford just contracted them same as Dodge did with Cummins
Lol at people who thinks the battery light means the battery is bad, the battery light means you're not getting charge back to you're battery/batteries
It just means there's an electrical problem, the first thing to do is check the voltage at the battery, it should be about 14 volts when the vehicle is running, if it's less it means it's not charging, it pays to have a cheap little volt meter around, you can get one for about 12 bucks, it can save you a lot of headaches.
7:40 very cool that he could help and that everything was able to be done with what was available.. very touching.. sometimes things just worked out. God is good.
I was bitten by the 6.0 alternator bug in the middle of Montana. I was going to change it before I left on the trip but the battery light went off for a week ahead of the trip so I returned the very alternator I purchased before leaving. Big mistake. We were towed into a little town on a Saturday night and parked right in front of a Napa store. The tow truck driver knew that they had an outlet so we could have some juice for the night because my generator refused to run longer than 10 minutes. Went to McDonalds for some food and when I returned the breaker was blown by my parents after I told them not to run the ac and microwave at the same time. When it rains it pours. Of course this was right after I blew two tires on the rv in Idaho the same day. Oh well it got fixed and we had a fun time in Glacier NP. The road is the real adventure not the destination.
Sean, Do yourself a favor and install a Fumoto oil drain valve. I opted for the 'N' style which allows for a hose to be attached. This way, just insert hose into empty oil container and turn valve. I have a 4WD, so the extra clearance gives me space to slide a 5 gal. bucket under. I just flip the lever on the valve, oil drains, I go up top, remove oil cap/filter, install new one. Crawl back under, close valve and you're done. Makes oil changes super fast and mess free. Then you can stop paying people to change your oil.
For what you spend on proofing and repairing the 6.0 you could by 2 good 7.3's. I would never own a 6.0 I serviced a fleet of ambulances and the BPD Kits only fix a few of the problems.
@Babylon falling well said sir! I own two 7.3IDI's and one 7.3PSD. All 3 are vans and have appx 250k. Just now Replacing the first injector on The power stroke.
I understand the love for Ford pickups. But no matter how good looking she (new diesel Ford truck) is "if you want to be happy for the rest of your life never make a pretty woman your wife".
@Ok Then so you are saying Ford should not have had a HUGE legal battle with Navistar in regards to the biggest engine failure rate in the history of trucks because you got lucky and your heads were not warped from the factory like the majority of the trucks that left the factory? the dealers were completely overwhelmed with completely stock blown up 6.0 when they first came out. they didnt have enough parts to repair them and they didnt even know why they were killing headgaskets at first. I think I have identified the fool here
The exact same thing happened to us. We have a 2005 Ford diesel 6.0., 107,000 miles with Bullet Proof EGR cooler, oil cooler, and cleaned up turbo, thanks to you guys. We just happened to have a Bullet Proof certified installer in Greenville, SC. Just south of where we live. Once we went to New Orleans from our home in western NC. We traveled back home through the back woods of Georgia just to see something else besides miles of interstate. Got home, unhitched, etc. I decided to go wash the truck and when I fired it up the battery light came on. It had new batteries. I have owned enough cars to know what this meant, bad alternator. The Ford dealership was about 6 miles across town. Having two batteries, I was reasonably confident that I could make it. Got on the interstate and about three miles out, the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. The truck went into what the manual calls "limp mode". The truck cut off all nonessential electronics including several injections. I had a bad case of "pucker". Well the trucked limped into the Ford Dealership parking lot and died. What luck that it did not die in the backwoods of GA or on the interstate.
These two videos were outstanding and educational. We will keep our Tundra Platinum Crew Max forever. I will never own a Ford diesel. Wishing you many trouble free miles.
Did anyone notice when he done the cold start the battery voltage was only 12.1 volts. That means the alternator has been dead scince u we're in yellowstone
DANIEL MEYER The alternators on the older Powerstrokes usually take 30 to 45 seconds to pick up the voltage to 14 volts and charging. Without the digital readout you would never know it by the trucks stock gauges.
Cold weather like that will rarely show 12.6 volts on any battery. Temperatures in extreme cold and heat play large with voltages in batteries. His CCA or cold cranking amps in the battery is what got that rig started up.
Fan since your wedding on Key West, the way you guys handle the “problems” y’all have experienced that inevitably come with living on the road full time, is a testament to the strength of the relationship. If you’re ever rolling through the hills of north east Georgia, lots of nice campground, one is Airstreams only, gimme a holler and I’ll buy a 🍺.
Same here my 6.7 powerstroke has been deleted for 4 years and 160k on the delete 260k on the truck h&sminimaxx has crapped out on me so I am installing a sct livewire and new oil cooler and trans cooler and body bushings other than that it's been a great truck imo
@@cdlindsey7864 Hey buddy, what year is your PowerStroke? The reason why I'm asking is because I bought new back in 2011 my Powerstroke and I've heard about this year model dropping exhaust valves or glow plugs breaking off into the cylinders. My rig has 110,000 miles. I deleted mine at 80,000 and I'm thinking those high heat regins is the killer of those first year 6.7s. Whenever my truck use to go in to regin I would slow down enough to where my exhaust gasses wouldn't go above 800. I'm thinking that alone helped out my valves from getting so hot. Anyway that's why I was asking what year your rig is. Take care buddy.
My last diesel was a 7.3L idi. She did not need a functional alternator to run. 100% mechanical diesel. And "Bulletproof" was the nickname for the old IDI's.
Isatnt they work fine if you use good oil and filters but most people want to be cheap. My dad has lots as company trucks and hasn’t had any trouble with any of them but egr was gone from new and he only runs good oil
Juan Said lots of 6.0 do fine stock as long as you maintain them and are proactive on things like coolant, and oil changes. Glad to hear you have good luck with these motors, I personally like the fact people are scared off so I can get a good deal on these great trucks. Good luck and have a safe trip
That's mighty impressive towing over Teton Pass! We were towing our trailer from Salmon ID to the Tetons, called ahead to the Colter Bay campground and they just just chuckled at my planned route over Teton Pass with the trailer. Diverted to US 26 and US 89 following the Snake river up into the area.
done that pass a couple of times.....#3 worst (trucker's voted) and our trailer less 2009 chevy 1/2T wanted to run away in 2nd gear....lost a bunch of brake life on the way to Driggs.....
I live by Idaho Falls and was shocked they pulled over the pass, going through the hoback only adds 20-30 mins and saves your brakes. Starting some point in November you can pull any trailers over it.
@P Mason the govt wants you to buy a new truck every 3 or 4 years so you stay in debt and add even more debt to what you owe the bankers so they make cars and trucks more complex so they break down faster.
Just saw this old post. FYI...always replace both batteries, if ones cooked the other ones been compromised! (after checking them with your multimeter and checking the charging system, ie alternator)
If I was a Ford guy I would just get a nice clean low mileage 7.3L If you spent the 10k you would have to spend on the 6.0l just to get it " bulletproofed" on mods you could do a custum tuned chip turbo back 4" exhaust T4 turbo like a S366 boost fooler set of gauges fuel system upgrades get the tranny built stage 2 injectors intake high flow oil pump maybe a few other goodies and have a tire peeling 450hp truck that is still reliable.
and you'd have half the power of a 6.0 with an inferior transmission. SMART. 7.3 still has failure points. LOTS OF THEM. Id rather stud a 60 than put injector cups in a 73 any day.

@@davidbrennan5 cool story. I didn't have to put a quarter of that in to my truck and it will drag your hypothetical 7.3 around ALL DAY LONG ha ha. Oh and I don't even have $10k in to it.....
Glad to hear all has been well with the bulletproofing! My mom's 6.0 had the alternator die on her too, same condition. Towing down I5 about 2am, all of the sudden the dash goes black, radio goes out, no lights, nothing. Except the battery light never came on, but the alternator did die. The batteries were shot and the alternator was working over time trying to keep them charged, ended up burning up.
My 6.0 is stock, 103,000 miles, well maintained and runs like a champ! IMPORTANT! Make sure you replace that new Ford coolant reservoir cap ASAP! The ford ones are crap and they don't hold pressure for shit. $5 part to insure your truck lasts even longer.
I got rid of my 6.0 and never looked back, worst thing I have ever owned. One thing after another, what a money pit. Purchased a Mercedes GL350 Bluetec with 7,500 pound towing capacity. Quite, powerful, 28 mpg (14 with RV), comfortable and it has been trouble free with 121,000 miles. I was always a Ford owner until my 6.0. Good luck with yours and thanks for the interesting videos.
Funny the temp here today this morning was -11C and it's still officially fall. When its -20 C or colder that's a cold start. But still nice upgrades to the truck.
B C true but these new diesels start pretty good even well below freezing, although i wouldn't drive without warming it up. Also good to keep it plugged in when it's really cold so the oil flows sooner. Lots of Americans don't even know that "plugging your car in" is a thing and don't in fact even have block heaters.
My husband, a diesel tech 30 yrs, was watching this video. He came and found me. Stopped me in the middle of what I was doing. Brought me to the screen. Stopped your video right at the beginning where it shows the cab removed to access the engine. He said "do you see that"? Clueless Me...ummmm No. He says, "that right there is the reason we will never have a Ford".
Back in the day, there was enough room under the hood to get to everything. Nowadays, there's so much technology crammed in there that it's often easier to remove the whole cab (a 3 hour process) than unbolt things to get at other things. Ford was the first to do it. But they're all that way now. Ford is also usually the first ones to use newer technology (they just have a bigger R&D team), so it makes sense that their engine bay got filled up first.
@@evolutionglitch4739 wow Six hours lost in the labor process. I didn't know that. I'd be praying hard that the fix got done right the first time. Do they go back together like the factory assembly?
@@spellmadam2947 Yep. It's basically drain fluids. Disconnect electrical connections, some other junk and some hoses, unbolt the body from the frame, and lift the body off. It's not required, but it's nice to do if you're working on a lot of stuff at once. All bolts back together like new. No modifications or hacking things apart to get the cab off.
@@evolutionglitch4739 it's "the some other junk" that spooks me. And I freak at those electrical connections being comprised and coming back to haunt me. Especially the aged items that get disturbed. Thanks for the info though. Good to hear it's all rather a breeze.
@@spellmadam2947 Yeah it's not terrible. The other "junk" is small stuff like body grounds, the raptor fan, intake hoses... All quick and easy. You're right about electrical connections though. If you have any kind of feel, they're not bad. But there are those rough people who pull hard without wiggling the connections or jam them together without adding any dialectic grease. But unless you have a diesel from the 90's or early 00's it's the same story no matter the brand. Anyway, cheers!
Just watched this one - glad to see Seemore still doing well. My ‘06 F250 had 200,000+ when it was totaled a couple of years ago sitting at a red light. I have a 2017 Ram 2500 now, couldn’t pass up the good deal on it. I hope it lasts as well as the Ford did. The only upgrade I did on the F250 was putting a Bully Dog tuner on it and kept it on the tow setting.
That's why I just stay away from ford diesels. Why should the consumer have to spend 6-10 K to undo what Ford engineers screwed up time after time. Glad though that it's working well for you. We're also full timers and rely on our truck 100% to get us all over the country . It had better work or we're screwed. We have an 08 Dodge with the 6.7 Cummins with 196000 miles, and also use the Amsoil by pass filter, and their superb oil.
I have a Ford shit-250 6.0 with 370000 miles on it is it possible to fix the issues my self? I need this pony to last longer. I got it for 2000$ what do I do?
I have my 6th 7.3 in the fleet. It has 378k miles and it is virtually untouched. Your statement is somewhat ignorant at best. All the big three have their own problems. The 6.0 was a known problem child due to overnight EPA regs forcing them to re-engineer their best selling diesel of all time. Thai has nothing to do with "Ford diesels". They all had issue when they were faces with how to make a diesel emissions compliant.....Not an easy task.
I am a 3rd gen Dodge guy must say that is a nice Ford only after the bullet proof. These trucks prior to 07 all come with undersized wimpy alternators. I upgraded mine to the 230 amp Demso. Ford I believe has the option to add a second one commonly used on ambulances and fire applications.
We did our 2006 6.0 right after watching your original video! You even answered my emails about the process before we pulled the trigger. BPD has been amazing to work with and I can't say enough about them. Sad Wyatt left, but Andrew has been great! We are glad we did the 6.0 and put some $ into it rather than buying new. $10k for the truck + $10k for the bullet proofing. Thank you for the follow-up video! BTW I think we crossed paths at BPD as I just had my truck serviced there. (I have them doing every other oil and fuel filter change). Thankful we live within 10 miles of their shop!
If possible always use mean green alternators and starters. I own no stock in the company, but it's all I use in my 6.0 and 7.3 power strokes and they last forever and have a lifetime warranty. Worth the extra cash.
I just sold my 2006 F350. It is still going strong after studs, EGR delete, oil cooler, and FICM. 6.0's are good trucks once they are fixed. Don't drive a new 6.7. I did and now have a new F450 in the garage 😆
True however, in 2020 the EPA has new rules coming for the entire USA for diesels. This will mean the cops will likely be inspecting diesels for deleted pollution equipment. The fines are not cheap the first time. A second fine is even less cheap and risk confiscation of your truck. A third is lose the truck and spend long nights in prison, from what I have read. By 2024, EPA will be so strict with diesels it will be very expensive to buy them likely. They are already over priced and live about 1/3 the life of pre 2008 engines.
Glad to see your having good luck with your 6.0 not all 6.0 powerstrokes stay together purchased mine new in 03 never had a trip that did not include several days at a dealership was pulling a 34 ft. 5th wheel on long trips now pull with a International dt466e and seems to be very reliable . If the truck you use is reliable you got a good one keep it as long as you can
The fact that anyone should feel the need they need to bullet proof a diesel truck with 150k miles is sad. Like, your diesel should be just breaking in at that point, not breaking apart lol. But hey, hope it runs for another 300k miles with no problems, if it does, then that's all that matters at the end of the day.
dedalliance1 I don’t think you understand, their is no break in period for the 6.0 motors they just break at any mileage. So bulletproofing them is a must so you can have a much more reliable truck.
Hahaha funny you bag on them. The 6.0 is when the emissions garbage started. I had a 2014 and 2017 PS. The 2014 bent a rod and had engine swapped. The 2017 i traded before the CP4 could f me. I’m looking at a crappy 6.0 as once you fix it once you are good.
@@wildeman7443 So you have to spend a bunch of money on a truck and then spend even more to make it what it should of been originally? How about this I drive a 2004 Chevy Express Cargo Van 2500 with the 6.0l gasser in it. It got crashed into a ditch during a snow storm at about 300k miles and took a fence post to the radiator and some trees to the body totally it. So, we took the motor from that van and put it into another 2004 Chevy Express cargo van we had that had the 5.3l gasser in it which also had 300k miles but was running a little weak, both on original transmissions both been wrecked and 'totaled' by insurance multiple times. We rebuilt the 6.0l we pulled from the wrecked van and it's still running on the original transmission. My sister also has a 2011 Chevy 3500 Duramax with 250k miles still original motor and transmission granted it was deleted probably 75k miles ago or so. We have a 2008 Suburban with the 5.3l 140k miles original motor and transmission still running. I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze with the 2.0l turbo diesel 118k miles still running strong. I know a friend with a 2004 Chevy 2500 Silverado with the 6.0l over 200k miles still running on original equipment. Knew a contractor with an 2006 Chevy 2500 Silverado and the 6.0l over 300k miles still running. I also have a 2018 GMC Sierra 3500 with the 6.0l gasser 39k miles on it I've towed my 13-14k pound fifth wheel camper with it across states I've taken it to 90+ mph on the highway I've gone up 11k foot passes here in Colorado I've gone down 11k foot passes too screaming down in 2nd gear doing 80 mph because my trailer breaks stopped working and my truck breaks were getting hot fast. My gas truck will put more work in than most people's mall crawling diesels and I paid a lot less for it. The Ford 6.0l Diesel is a money pit no matter how 'reliable' you can make it. I could run a 6.0l GM gasser for over a half million miles for a lot cheaper than you could run a diesel, probably from any brand. Your truck isn't reliable maybe you should switch brands to something that actually works.
It comes down to how much the bulletproofing costs, and then you still have an expensive 10 yr old truck. Other things go wrong. I'd have to compare to a nice two year old F-250 vs having a 10 yr old F-250 with bulletproofing. Too bad Ford doesn't think building a "bullet proof" engine is worth it.
its not really ford or international/navistar fault... the 6.0 engine is really good engine overseas because no emission. a lot of car manufacturer has diesel platform overseas but cant bring here due emission regulation
@@TheRick2130 rumor is ford ran the 6.0 with .ore boost than international engineered the vt365 to have. drive both, the vt365 is a dog but never blows head gaskets.
75k+ vs a 6-12k dollar truck +4-7k to bullet proof (bulletproof diesel are thieves on this) .....hmmmm idk where you were taught to math but it isnt adding up. 6.7s are still new engines they are learning more and more. at least with a 6.0l you know the flaws.
@Kenneth Boyer Yes not to mention, with the DPF/DEF systems, heavy truck diesels are not getting 1,000,000 miles before a rebuild. Most are lucky to get to 400,000 but getting there is expensive due to the DEF and the maintenance issues that comes with that "contraption" devise.
Okay fellow 6.0 owners. that stock alternator with its 110amp capacity is way undersized for the demands of a diesel engine. those glow plugs suck the life out of batteries and your stock alternator cannot keep up with the electrical demands of your vehicle. Thats one of the reasons why batteries only last about 2 years on these trucks. Number one, always use high quality batteries such as motorcraft or interstate brands. nothing at the parts stores come close. Number 2, that replacement alternator you purchased is still stock in output and will only last 2 years. trust me I went through it. o Rileys, autozone, napa same story 2 years max even though they warrant them for life. What you need is a DC power 185amp alternator made just for the 6.0 deficient alternator. its a direct replacement and has many enhanced parts for longevity. You will not be disappointed. there are many articles on the internet about this. You have to have good battery voltage to protect that fragile FICM. Now oil. There is nothing better for our 6.0 than Shell Rotella T6 fully synthetic oil. nothing, and its reasonable priced at wall mart so you wont spend a fortune like you would on amzoil. Change it every 5k with genuine motorcraft filters (never napa) and do the fuel filters every other oil change. once again use only motorcraft filters. Next, did you install the blue spring update in the fuel bowl area? It increases the fuel pressure and thats good for your injectors. Finally, ALWAYS use ford cetane booster and conditioner in every tank. that's good for your injectors and your truck will love the cetane and run better and give you a slight increase in mileage because cetaine in diesel is like octane in gas but diesel cetane varies from pump to pump and in the US barely meets fords requirements.
I got the best alternator I could find within a mile of Dan’s Clam Stand. 😜 It is 140amps, a nice upgrade over the original... but I agree more would be better! Thanks for the great post. 👍
watch that scangauge. if the charging voltage ever gets below 13.8V pay attention and start thinking replacement. Of course your yellow battery light should glow when voltage drops. dont ignore it. dont hurt your fragile ficm with low voltage. Did you learn the trick on how to hold open your belt tensioner with the tab? If not google it for the future.
M Cool, I disagree on the battery issue you mention. There are many concerns to consider when it comes to the charging system. Voltage drops are your largest concern. Correct those and your alternator will last 140 k also.
Thanks for the video! I am getting my 6.0 bulletproofed March 3rd. I understand that other things fail. Because at the end of the day ALL makes and models of vehicle will fail at some point! Still less money than buying a new truck.
Better to dodge the bullets than take them. Instead of bulletproofing a 6.0 better option is to avoid having one. I'm a ford man but i wouldn't touch a 6.0 with a 100 ft pole.
Hope the new alternator holds up, sometimes the new parts-store ones don't hold up. Another option would have been to find a local starter / alternator shop and have your Original (high quality) FoMoCo part rebuilt with high quality (USA) components.
Or you could just buy a Cummins. That's what I did after owning a Ford. Of course that means you also get a Ram so there are other problems but it isn't the engine. Why Ford didn't just go ahead and drop Cummins engines in the 250+ models will always confuse me. The extra bit of horse power you get from the V8 configuration was never worth all the hassle, and that is something Cummins has understood for years and years. Turbo charging a V8 is fun, no doubt, but due to the fact the exhaust is on 2 different sides and the intake is on the top it's more complicated than turbo charging an I6. And diesels are typically much lower revving than gas engines, so the advantages of a V8 design are lost except for that little bit of extra horsepower due to slightly higher revs, but you only get it when you are in the slightly higher rev range. To know the true puling power of an engine, torque is key. If you have lots of torque, you have lots of power at any RPM. If you don't have much torque, you have to rev it like a race bike to get the power. That's why these vehicles like the "Eco-boost" F150 aren't great tow vehicles. Sure they can get the job done, but they are revving like a jet engine. They won't last as long revving at 4500 rpm just to cruise as a diesel that's idling along at 1800 rpm. The life of the engine is governed more by the miles on the pistons going up and down than the miles on the odometer. So to get long life out of an engine you need to drop the revs. Also I think Ram is programming the 6.7 to have less horsepower than it could to reduce wear on the transmission. Ford and GM don't care, they just want to show the best HP number they can. Don't be heavy footed in a Ford or GM. Ya, it goes a bit faster, but not for as long. I've seen guys in the backwaters swap out Ford engines for a Cummins in their old F250+ trucks. Terribly expensive because nothing fits or wires up. But they'd rather do that than rebuild the Ford engine.
Art Vanden Berg death wobble, and having a transmission that breaks at stock power levels and costs $7000 to rebuild makes even less sense to me, the 6.0 stock bottom end and transmission can handle 1000hp with proper tuning, Bulletproof Diesel fixes the problem areas of a otherwise great motor. Cummins are easier to work on but have their weak points as well.
@@bikerdog2b Yup well I did say there were other problems. So far as I know Ram has fixed the death wobble but that was a concern on earlier models, the front suspension wasn't up to par with what they were trying to build with the truck. That has always been the problem with the Rams, they had a great motor in the Cummins but the truck was not up to snuff. I think they've gotten a lot better. They've had to. Anyway I've been a Ford fan for a long time, and drove their trucks for a long time, but I had the 6.0 International Harvester diesel and had to spend $4000 dollars and not have the truck for 2 weeks just to replace the injectors. The reason it took 2 weeks is because one of the new injectors (ok rebuilt) was faulty and they had to take the whole thing apart again. The problem with the V8 design lies in those injectors being below the turbo charger so when it's time to do something relatively simple like change out an injector a whole lot of stuff has to come off first and then go back on, burning up a lot of shop time. With the Cummins you can change them out yourself, but I've never heard of anyone needing to, they don't get "sticktion" (which means crappy design). Regardless, I wouldn't tune any of these motors out to 1000 hp. They might last for a bit like a race car, but you would be rebuilding it often. Frickin tractor trailers don't come with 1000 hp.
@@Nonplused I have a 2018 RAM with the Cummins. The death wobble was corrected by welding a flat stock between frame rails, but that made changing the oil filter a chore. My fuel mileage is horrible, and the Aisin transmission feels like it is slipping, although it is getting better as the truck breaks in. It has under 10,000 miles. I guess each brand has their issues, so buy what you like and you will repair what you buy in time. My Brother is a Ford man, I am a Dodge...sorry, RAM...It makes for good fodder back and forth. Every decent mechanic I know likes the Ford...but what do they know...LOL.
My 2004 6.0 had to have the trans rebuilt at 90k miles not lifted or anything stock truck. Continual engine issues worst truck I’ve ever had. I traded it in for a Cummins and it’s been fantastic 125k on the Cummins and runs like new!
@@robertmycroft8268 Ya well you don't buy a 1 ton for the mileage! All three brands get terrible mileage but they can all pull like crazy. My truck was in for repairs (I hit the cab with the front of my trailer and put a small dent in it, rookie mistake I guess that sliding hitch was there for a reason) and they gave me a rental Ram 3500 with a gas engine and wow I thought my mileage was bad. It was a joke. The gas literally went right through. Not sure why they thought I needed a rental truck when i rent I usually like to try something different. Anyway it got like 10 mpg with no trailer so I don't regret paying the extra for the diesel. It was slower too.

AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: Friends, making a quality Loloho video is kind of like making sausage - only slightly more violent. It's a ridiculous amount of work that typically involves high dollar camera drops, blue-screen-of-death computer crashes, and at least one angry shotgun wielding old man shouting, “Hey! Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on RUclips are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). One saving grace is our affiliate links. JUST CLICKING THESE LINKS HELPS TO SUPPORT OUR LITTLE SHOW. Think of this clicking as like tipping - except that it doesn't cost you anything extra! If you eventually make a purchase via one of our affiliate links, we will receive a few pennies (and Sean typically invests these pennies in duct tape and video gear). Again, it doesn't cost you anything to click these links, and it's a great help to us. As always, safe travels, happy camping, and THANK YOU!
Brrrrrrrr... You should get a remote start!
and what was the cost>??
How much did the exact bulletproof cost??
You only have 140 thousand miles on a diesel and you did all this work? Personally I would have drove it until it blew up and while waiting found a Cummins from a low mile wreck and swapped it just like everyone else.
Any link on scan gauge 2?
Great Video we have bullet proofed many 6.0's over the years and after the work was done they were really good trucks. I agree with what you said 100% about the 6.0. The only thing I would add I'd that Ford should had stood behind their trucks and the bullet proofing should have been done under a recall!
"When things go wrong, the adventure begins." I like that! Reminds me of when I was born.
This comment made my day 😂
I had mine done 3 years ago, and had them replace all of the hoses, belt, and high pressure pump while they had it apart. Best money I ever spent, and I love my 6.0!
how much did it cost to do that. I have a 6.0 too. I love it but my engine cooler is clogged
@@Mrjjeffrey3375 remove the engine cooler and relocate it and make it a air to oil cooler, mines been done five yrs

What does all that cost?
A shit load 10k and up
How much is parts and what is labor cost 🤔?
I'm surprised Ford mounted the alternator in such an accessible spot. Some engineer lost his job because of that placement....maybe.
Did you see Toyota's placement of the starter on their gas v8? It's inside the engine in the V between banks! Is that engineering insanity or worthy of a promotion because of all the owners walking over to the sales office when they got the replacement estimate from the service dept! Salesman of the year award.
Or my car, which requires the removal of the front of the car to replace the headlight bulb.
@@rjr-yp9ujMy wife's too!
It's not a Ford engine. It is a international engine
They made up for it with the oil filter placement.
500,000 miles on my 6.0. Maintenance is key with any diesel but Powerstrokes can’t take neglect like the Cummins engines can.
300,000 stock xcept egr delete
I am very glad to see someone else do this and are happy with the results. You have inspired me to do some upgrades of my own. Thank you!
You are an idiot yeah go ahead and pay for bulletproofing when the truck should come like that already
I could say the same bout Dodge/Ram/Fiat Trucks and their automatics and front ends, how bout them apples?
Great to hear the bulletproof work was a good investment! Years ago, with my wife and our baby son, our alternator went out on the Poplar Street Bridge, goin over the Mississippi River into St Louis. Fun times!!!
Chevy Rok14 get your self a 12 valve Cummins. With the fss delete and manual transmission it doesn't run off of any electricty. Alternator goes out just laugh at it and keep driving. You won't have good fuel pressure so don't go towing or driving up a mountain like that but you can drive with the key out. Freaks people out lol
I`m glad to see Seemore is still running. It seems that Bulletproof Diesel`s work was worth it.
Great update. Bulletproof Diesel is a first class shop. Glad to hear that Seemore is doing great!
The alternator was the problem, but you smart man changed out your batteries. I am glad you shared this video, loved it.

My 6.0 has shown -45 degrees in North Dakota and she fires up:) just let those little glow plugs warm up:)
I'm so happy I am mechanically inclined. As soon as he said "another battery" I said, nope Alternator. And I was right.
Shoulda bought yourself a nice DC Power alternator. Had mine for 8 years now.... love it!
It’s great to hear about businesses that still have honest core values, and given the opportunity I will patronize them!
I got a no name 2003 4.6 137,000 miles never one problem . Built by Ford Factory.
My truck is completely stock, and has spent the entirety of its 22 year life in Alaska, seeing heavy use offroad. Very few parts have been replaced, and those that broke were due to the abuse that truck endured before I owned it. They just don't make them like they used to.
Crystal river has alot of fun things for our community. Dan's clam stand is awesome. Us locals love it
-40 weather was my job temperatures outside. At 19 years old, I hated it but worked through it. Today, no thank you.
When the battery light comes on it is almost always the alternator. The battery light indicates an electrical problem not specifically the battery.
We bought the 6.4 and it’s Bulletproofed and it has some major balls now.
Sir,
I really appreciate your update on the “Bulletproof Diesel” engine.
We’re it warm I do it myself…
Maybe you Cummins people have got it better…but I’m done putting my life savings in a truck that last 2 to 3 years before putting thousands in it…after paying thousand for it.
Good to hear. I got a 2006 f250 with the bulletproof parts on it. I only tow 3 dirt bikes and gear but it’s in the mountains
God bless you guys very good video thanks for all does tips and the best part is you and your wife traveling around the country like a honey moon
Love your videos I have a 2003 f250 6.0 king ranch lwb I love it bought it about a year from my cousin with only 63000 so very low mileage for a 15 years old so all your videos have help thank both of you and be safe out there.
You lucked out with a top mounted alternator!
You guys have a good attitude when chaos hits. I have 2005 5.9 3500 cummins and have not had one single problem and that's a good thing because I don't handle chaos well.
Wow, I hit up a few restaurants in Crystal River and never heard of Dan's. Live only 1 hour away. Will have to check them out. Thanks for the review.
Hey Mike talk about a small world I live south of you down US 19 South in New Port Richey .
Great reminder to invest in your truck instead of buying a new one and having large payments again!
@@dedalliance1 wow
My top alternator on my 2001 f-350 I bought new has 330,000 miles on it. Still going strong, knock on wood.
Lol at people who thinks the battery light means the battery is bad, the battery light means you're not getting charge back to you're battery/batteries
Not necessarily
It just means there's an electrical problem, the first thing to do is check the voltage at the battery, it should be about 14 volts when the vehicle is running, if it's less it means it's not charging, it pays to have a cheap little volt meter around, you can get one for about 12 bucks, it can save you a lot of headaches.
It means there's an issue with the charging system.
Really i would never have guessed the battery light meant alternator problem. Lol thats what i would have checked
What I love about you guys is you show how if you do preventative maintenance and care for your stuff, it lasts.
I love my cummins!
Factory bullet proofed.

John Diaz if the light went off then all you needed was a couple 8 dollar brushes and it would have been good again
Sean,
Do yourself a favor and install a Fumoto oil drain valve.
I would never own a 6.0
I serviced a fleet of ambulances and the BPD Kits only fix a few of the problems.
@Babylon falling sounds like a 6.ohno powerstroke. good analogy

The 7.3 was not perfect either.
Nothing like having to buy the same vehicle three times.
1. From factory
2.From rebuild
3. Insurance Co. that won’t pay for it.
I was thinking the same think
My last diesel was a 7.3L idi. She did not need a functional alternator to run. 100% mechanical diesel.
And "Bulletproof" was the nickname for the old IDI's.
Interesting how the times change and information is lost.
I'm glad to see that a ford is actually working after 2 years
Isatnt they work fine if you use good oil and filters but most people want to be cheap. My dad has lots as company trucks and hasn’t had any trouble with any of them but egr was gone from new and he only runs good oil

Good luck with yours and thanks for the interesting videos.
I started to keep an extra alternator in the trailer for my 6.0L. This has happend one to many times to myself lol
When on the road often, that is a great idea as is a spare drive belt etc.
Glad to see that you have had good Service out of your truck after doing to it what ford should've done to it in the beginning
Ya starting your truck when is 32F out isn't a cold start. All the best from Canada...
B C it was 17 when he was cranking it in Yellowstone. That’s well below freezing, so I’d say that’s a cold start.
@@Nonplused I'm so safe with my cars I plug them in in Arizona for an even hotter hot start
1:24 ... yes, great bullet proofing 😍
@@spellmadam2947
Yep.
@@spellmadam2947
Yeah it's not terrible.
One alternator tip on the 6.0s, I learned long ago......Put the 7.3 alternator in there. Same case and plugs, but it has the bigger internals.
Has Bulletproofing impacted you MPG either towing or solo?
It most likely increased since new injectors were installed at the time of bulletproofing.
ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO.
What included in 10k in parts ? To bullit proof it
2 years!! No way. It can`t be that long.
I know I was surprised also when Shawn said it has been two years already since Seemore was bulletproofed . Time sure does fly by doesn't it ?
If possible always use mean green alternators and starters. I own no stock in the company, but it's all I use in my 6.0 and 7.3 power strokes and they last forever and have a lifetime warranty. Worth the extra cash.
I just sold my 2006 F350. It is still going strong after studs, EGR delete, oil cooler, and FICM. 6.0's are good trucks once they are fixed. Don't drive a new 6.7. I did and now have a new F450 in the garage 😆
Yes, I’m afraid to drive a new one! 😂 I’m sure they are nice (for the money they should be)!!!
The 6.7's are great. . .if they're deleted. If I bought a new one it wouldn't have 10 miles on it before being deleted. EPA be damned.
Your videos are always such a hoot to watch. Thanks for doing all you do to keep us viewers entertained.
Your video is not only entertaining, but also very, very useful. I appreciate you guys.
30K on the rebuild is Nothing!!! Come back at 300K then we will talk!!
Dan's Clam Stand is the best! We drove over 1.000 miles round trip this spring just to eat a dinner and lunch the following day!
never been there but looks like a good place to break down & be stuck for a few days
Sometimes it comes down to "within a mile of Dan's Clam Stand"@@LongLongHoneymoon
I have the DC Power 185 in my 6.0 with the upgraded wiring. It has been awesome
watch that scangauge. if the charging voltage ever gets below 13.8V pay attention and start thinking replacement.
Still less money than buying a new truck.
did you get it?
So sad FORD did NOT Factory bullet proof the 6.0 liter (day one).
And what have you done in your life span?
good to see both of you. You both are looking great!
