That bodystyle is one of my favs. Interior is great, ride is great and looks sharp on the outside. Ive had buddies with bulletproofed 6.0s and theyre cool, but id still cummins swap it. Im not brand loyal, but theres only one engine worth having in a pickup.
I've owned two 2005 6.0's. I sold them years ago and still regret it. The sound, the quality feel of the driving experience, the way the trans feels, the way quick almost gas- like fell off the engine just has never been beat in my mind. And that's coming from someone who's daily driven a 2011 6.7, and who's brother owns a 2017 6.7, tuned.
Had one for about 4 years it was a good truck for the first 2 and half years, But it had typically high mileage 6.0 problems and I had to keep fixing them as they came up the biggest issue with it was it was very clear that the previous own was one of them DIY with out asking any questions type of guys they jacked that motor up and ultimately after make a few different repairs and having to spend more money reversing his crap work I had to let the truck go I got unlucky with it but it taught me a lot about diesel engines and the 6.0 engine in specific I will probably never own another one but ill always have a soft spot the 6.0 because it was the most fun iv had with a truck while it ran good. I wish I would have had as much knowledge on that engine as I do now when I bought it because just based off some of the stuff I saw had been done to the truck I can just assume it wasn't very well maintained prior to me buy it.
Oh and my 2nd gen is a 53 block stock trans with 205xxx miles. What would be cool is a built trans give away that I win with a mild built motor that's not a ticking time bomb like mine that I also win. Hehehe. Just dreaming over here.

Besides the reliability Issues my dad had a 05 two tone 4x4 put 2 jeeps on a 28' trailer it pulled gaining speed up mountains. It ran hard wiith a FICM tune and straight pipe
Still have my 2004 6.0. fairly stock. Added a coolant filter a couple.of the standard upgrades like the fuel spring upgrade. I never have had any real mechanical problems. Burn out without trying. The list of issues is a stuck sunroof, horn rusted and shorted and blew a fuse, body work because I use it like a truck, peeling paint, 2 cracked rims. And finally replacing the rear air springs after 18 years. I'll drive it until .it dies or I do. In the process of fixing it up cosmetically.
Take this for what it’s worth I had a transmission line pop off on my 6.0l it stopped moving. Put the line back on and 5 years later still shifting like a fucking dream
I love my Cummins too but you have to admit there is nothing better sounding than a pissed off 6 leaker. Too bad now everyone thinks they are now worth 20k lol.
This guy just needs a Fummins. Best of both worlds. Although I've always preferred the sound of a 6.0 to a Cummins you can't beat the reliability and simplicity of a Cummins
Ive work on most of them and from my experience the lack of education and lack of doing the best attention to detail covering all the bases in the job is hyper critical with all of them including quality parts, there are a lot of crap parts in the industry. The 6.0 needs the 10w30 motorcraft diesel oil because its hydraulic rated oil for the hpop. Failure to use that will effect the injectors leading to sticking in addition, the hpop damaging conventional oil is a prelude to premature lifter needle bearing failure cam and engine destruction, I have a 6.0 here now that happened to they were running rotella. Deleted and running motorcraft diesel oil They have been reliable for me. the Cummins is super critical to have a pro machine shop resurfacing the head perfectly flat. I've seen guys spend loads of time and money on the isuzu 6.6 and the common rail Cummins but they don't usually talk about it. My neighbor blew his (completley) bone stock 07' duramax within 49k miles. Imo they be all obsolete consumer grade compromised engineered to fail. with the options I'd take the Cummins the allison transmission in the ford chassis with manual shift 4x4 case. Technology in the 1880's opoc was more efficient reliable but heavy. it was perfected in 2007-09 by navistar with their (eco motors em100 engine) that was sold to zhong ding holding corporation of China for $360 million.
I deleted and tuned my 6.7 cummins and haven't had a single issue by doing regular maintenance. Now the 2007 Ram it's attached to has given me plenty of suspension jobs to do
I use Schaefer’s 5/40 with 2 shots of rev ex. I also have oil bypass filtration to 2 microns. I change the oil and both stock and bypass filters every 3000 miles. No problems going on 144000 miles. I believe using a hydraulic rated oil would be good, because the high pressure system shears the oil. These engines I’ll not tolerate extended oil changes.
They don't need 10W-30. Conventional oil isn't an issue, although I would always choose a quality synthetic. As for you saying "the Cummins is super critical to have a pro machine shop resurfacing the head perfectly flat"...yeah...that can literally be said for anything...
Yes they all certainly have their issues. Duramax platform loves to snap crankshafts for no reason, even stock they just randomly snap. They have glass pistons, and powder metal rods that at least bend and not snap like the common rail Cummins. I love my Cummins, and for the most part the 3rd gens are great trucks. I only wish Chrysler would have used real steal instead of recycled Bud cans that rust if you look at them wrong. Like everything in life morons tend to have the loudest mouth. So they screw up something and it's the trucks fault. They go down to Advance auto and buy injectors for their common rail, and it melts down, it's the junk truck. They can't read an owners manual but it's the trucks fault. Stupidity is seriously at epidemic levels today.
My buddy has a 6.0 Excursion, bulletproofed and hotrodded. We all told him NOT to buy the damn thing in the first place- and that's coming from a Ford man (who admittedly has a love/hate relationship with Ford). He went against the advice of 5 of his friends and got the damn thing anyway, lol. I'm not gonna lie though, it is pretty awesome in the performance category, and I enjoyed driving it. There's just way too many technical issues with the design in the first place to make me ever own one, unless of course, it was free... Ford made the better truck chassis, body, axles, and transmissions in those years, and still do IMO. The 5R110 and 6R140 are great transmissions. The 2nd gen Dodge was an older design underneath, and it shows. I do like them however, and they were good looking trucks, especially in dually form. I haven't been in one lately that didn't have a giant hole in the middle of the dash, and CAD axles and non-selectable hubs are not my thing. They clearly got the best engine out of the bunch. I'm building a 12 valve for my '83 F-250 right now. Sound- we've still got a 7.3 Superduty, and I love it. 7.3 PSD is my favorite pickup diesel for engine sound (not necessarily exhaust), and the older IDI a close 2nd. Detroit 2 strokes beat them all in the cool sound department, for me anyway. The EPA just has to ruin everything good.

A friend gave me a stupid deal on an 04 F250, All the work done to the engine already.. and like this guy in the video.. I Hated fords. Never looked at them. Never bothered to learn. I mean the 6.0s are honestly hit or miss when it comes to getting one that'll last through all the abuse you can put them through or getting one that'll break within the first week it kinda depends on whether you get a straight up lemon from factory or one that is built correctly and whoever has owned it previously tbh

6.0s are good until you have to diagnose something. Then when you do you better be ready to buy a ton of new orings and be surgical clean when installing anything.
Been a Cummins guy almost forever. BUT, Dodge "bit the big one" when they put a DAMN Fiat TRACTOR engine in the 1500, INSTEAD of putting in the Cummins that was offered to them . POS. Now to PowerStrokes -- the 6.0 has/had one major issue, and that was it ate head gaskets. You have to stud the heads. THE best person in the PowerStroke world, would probably be Bill Hewitt @ PowerStroke Specialties in Buford, GA. BTW: the 6.4's are POS, since this is when International found out that Ford was building their own diesel , which became the 5.7. NOW, how do I enter the contest ??
The 2017 Ford's have two sunroofs or i think it might be one single one that goes to the back seats as well with a divider i don't know for sure but it's awesome 😎
Thats what happens when you build a 6.0 right, I'm not a big fan of these, (80-90's OBS style is my fav) but it's still an awesome truck when done right. Now the 6.4 is a totalaly differant story from what I've heard.
it's called group-think/cult-mentality and brainwashing, they lose the ability to be subjective because of the blinders they put on. not unlike politics, religion, and pretty much everything else.
Altitude can make a big difference on spool if you happen to live significantly lower than them. They're at about 5,800 feet, and I know I feel a tangible difference in spool on road trips as I climb from ~600 ft where I live up to well over a mile high.
Its all the fan boy crap. Each diesel has its own issues. Just take care of them and they last. With all that being said, the 6.0L powerstroke in years 05-07 are dang tough motors. They tow like a freight train. Just do the recommended upgrades and follow a maintenance plan, your set. ALL light duty diesel trucks are only as good as the owners.
We ford does have to worry about the dash falling apart. I bought a 2005 F250 xl 6.0 4x4 crew cab long bed with a tommy gate 196,000mi (commercial version) $1500.00 runs great. Its a project truck for me.
Let’s be honest. The only redeeming quality on the Rams are the Cummins because of how easy they are to work on. You slap the 5.0 V8 Cummins in the rams today and it wouldn’t sell, they’re not easy to work on compared to the i6.
Very true, the Nissan Titan's with the 5.0 V8 Cummins are not flying off the shelves so to speak. We're keeping our eyes on the new 3.0L Inline 6 cylinder Duramax they're loading up in the new Chevy/GMC trucks, vans, and SUV's. The belt driven oil pump is a little scary, but if they prove reliable, would be a great platform for compound turbos!!!
@@pddofficial I’ve never even seen one in person so idk what’s capable of them but if they’re getting the good mpg you’d think and are reliable they’ll be a great seller in theory. That bodystyle is one of my favs. Interior is great, ride is great and looks sharp on the outside. Ive had buddies with bulletproofed 6.0s and theyre cool, but id still cummins swap it. Im not brand loyal, but theres only one engine worth having in a pickup.
This.
Nah i can think of a few engines. As for ram trucks tho yes Cummins don’t even consider the gas versions they’re awful
I miss my 6.0s, both leaf sprung 04s. Like driving a gas big block with turbos nitrous and 700 cubes!
he fell in love with it after driving it for sure
My Cummins 5spd is my in town truck for the low end grunt. My 7.3 6speed is my highway truck for the mid to top end power.
“If it’s affordable and it can do a burnout” then came the massive burnout after 😂

As a Ford truck guy I like cummins but hate dodge, shitbox quality in them dodges
Honestly I've got a stock second gen and I've had a tuned 04 6.0 and I would agree 100% with your review especially with the transmission.
Oh and my 2nd gen is a 53 block stock trans with 205xxx miles. What would be cool is a built trans give away that I win with a mild built motor that's not a ticking time bomb like mine that I also win. Hehehe. Just dreaming over here.
@@godsgracefarm4576 dodge had tranny problems to I have owned both
@@michaeltangusso9801 that's what I'm talking about. Dodge transmissions are garbage.i wanna say the Ford transmission in this year was fairly decent especially when built.
@@godsgracefarm4576 it's easy to make a transmission last behind something with low torque.. my 12V was 440hp and 1000ft lb at 2200 RPM.. that's just going to be hard on the drivetrain
Yea not so much, it's always the stock type purists that call the 47/48 a POS. While in stock form ya it's a total pile, especially with the stock converter. It doesn't match the torque curve at all. Put a solid low stall single disk behind it with a good valve body and it will run great. @@godsgracefarm4576
So the sunroof in the Ford trucks are two separate ones it looks like in the picture i just saw of one
I’m a Cummins guy as well… But that Ford looks good!! Hope I win it!!!🙌🏼👍🏼👊🏼
Best of luck!
@@pddofficial I just got a message for a "winning giveaway" and wanted to verify true status of this account, if it is really PDD or a scam account?
@@angkorian2o91 nope fake!
Only place a 6.0 has near me is parked with a for sale sign on it. So many better options, instead of the “once you do studs heads gaskets erg del blah blah blah they’re bulletproof!”
Besides the reliability Issues my dad had a 05 two tone 4x4 put 2 jeeps on a 28' trailer it pulled gaining speed up mountains. It ran hard wiith a FICM tune and straight pipe
I love my 6.0 powerstroke just love the smell of diesel in the morning
💯 with you
I had 04 6.0 all I did was delete the egr cooler. Stock head bolts. Never a problem with it. Sold it at 200k
@@JamesArvidson all i did to my 04 was egr delete, coolant filter and blue spring upgrade
I love my 6.0 te End! 12 years with bluepspring upgrade!
We have a lot of fun 6.0 content coming the next few months!
I’ve been running 15w40 for the past 430k bud
I might be a Cummins guy myself but I love how the 6.0 looks and sounds I kinda want one😂😂
I lost my Cummins truck earlier this year. Could t find another Cummins in the same condition. A friend gave me a stupid deal on an 04 F250, All the work done to the engine already.. and like this guy in the video.. I Hated fords. Never looked at them. Never bothered to learn. But If I’m being Honest..
The Ford…. It accelerates better.. it brakes better, haven’t pulled with it yet.. but I imagine it might be better. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️. Fk. 😒 Ram still looks better!
I got a 92 f150 extended cab 5.8 can bet it'll do a better burn out then just about any truck
Challenge accepted! 😎😁
I believe ford uses a solenoid controlled transmission unlike the ball valve thing so it shifted pretty quirk
5R110 is all electronic. There is no valve body in that transmission.
its nice when I see people say they hate Ford, that means more of the best trucks made for me

I have a 95 standard cab LWB 2wd 12v NV4500 Dodge...
Also a 2006 Chevy 2500HD 4x4 CC Duramax...
6.0's have never been on my radar! I'll take an anemic IDI before I get a 6.0... just my 2cents.
Good luck to whomever wins!!!
I mean the 6.0s are honestly hit or miss when it comes to getting one that'll last through all the abuse you can put them through or getting one that'll break within the first week it kinda depends on whether you get a straight up lemon from factory or one that is built correctly and whoever has owned it previously tbh
The guy that says he hates Fords and loves Cummins boy I bet you love your transmission shop down the road cuz your truck stays in there
He is his transmission shop😂

As a technician that works on these trucks professionally,is it possible to replace the powerstoke engine in a Ford F 350 6.0 with a cummins engine and if possible which year of cummins 3500 will work for a 2004 Ford model. Also does changing the engine to cummins also mean that the transmission will have to be changed. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.
Yes it is called a Fummins I would check out Diesel Conversion Specialist.
@@pddofficial Wao,thanks so much for your prompt response.I really appreciate it.
6.0s are good until you have to diagnose something. Then when you do you better be ready to buy a ton of new orings and be surgical clean when installing anything.
Two foot to slow down in reverse because your fighting 1000hp 🤣🇺🇸
The mirrors are from a 2017+ truck.

As a ford tech, the 6.4 was a bigger p.o.s than the 6.0 ever was. Look out on the road and see how many 6.0s are still driving
Sounded like a 3-5 shift flair to me.but that's just me.
Guys the 6.0 is one of the best if and I say if you change the heads and put head studs in it. 5-600,000 miles with no issues.
I hated ford as well but within the last year I have put 20k miles on one without any major issues
How can you hate Fords without ever having been in one lol
Bad fit,bad finish, OK trans and transfer case, shit engine and almost impossible to get it towing without 15k
Exactly what I was thinking
it's called group-think/cult-mentality and brainwashing, they lose the ability to be subjective because of the blinders they put on. not unlike politics, religion, and pretty much everything else.
Because he’s worked on them. I wouldn’t much enjoy having to pull the cab to do major engine work
Wait till you see that the back seats flip up and you can make the whole floor a tool rack cause it has a rack on the floor!

Altitude can make a big difference on spool if you happen to live significantly lower than them. They're at about 5,800 feet, and I know I feel a tangible difference in spool on road trips as I climb from ~600 ft where I live up to well over a mile high.
@@nate0031 very true. When I’m in slat lake or flagstaff or pulling up the grade in Albuquerque it’s very smoky

Just do what I did and put a Cummins in a Ferd. Then you have a Cummins, and the wiring insulation isn't made from melted down GI Joe guys.
