Source: Rush "Replay x 3" (Disc 2: Grace Under Pressure DVD) Released: June, 2006
NOTE: The working title for this song was "Project 3:57" because they were writing it in order to fill the 3 minutes and 57 seconds of record space left after the "Signals" album's first seven songs were done (Geddy Lee: "It wouldn't have been on the record if we didn't have four minutes space available").
Rush is not a singles band, as fans tend to buy the albums. "New World Man" is by far their highest-charting single, and their only Canadian #1. In America, it was the the only Rush song to crack the Top 40.
No band even comes close to performing this tight in a live performance and sound this good. I feel sad for those who have never listened to Rush in their life.
Plenty of bands out there match them, it is just your bias getting the best of you.
They were amazing in Philadelphia during their Power Windows tour!! 😂

@@manniku91 I have played music with many different musicians in all different genres for over 60 years. Yes, we are a dime a dozen. There are six year olds on youtube right now that will make your jaw drop.
I like the music but Geddys voice grates on me.
I love watching how much fun they are having, especially Neil. He looked so somber later in life. He had a lot of things happen to him, I know, and was able to push through it. But the happiness I see in these earlier videos is definitely missing. This concert was my first live Rush experience. Brings back a lot of great high school memories. Miss you, Mr. Peart.
He was about 30 years old (maybe a little older) and he was already a big boss both in drums playing and in songwriting. I would be happy too 😂
Thus is life. They were young men here. early 30s i think. Most of us felt great in our early 30s. Im 45 now and suddenly have some health issues. Their last couple tours he was in his late 50s/early 60s. And even though the band ended before his cancer, im very sure he was just tired in general. Decades of relentless touring. The money and accolades obviously were good, but its not a normal life. Probably harder than many jobs any of us work. Imagine being away from home for much of every single year for decades. It wears you down. "We each pay a fabulous price for our visions of paradise." We all know what neil meant there.
One other thing, neil once described this period of rush as a time when "so much water flowed beneath their bridges." He said this later on when vapor trails came out and talking about the early 80s. When he said that i knew immediately he didnt feel that was the case anymore. The later albums i think he felt an obligation to the band to do but i think mentally he was done with it all after test for echo and the things he went through.
That baseline....👍👍👍
This is one of the best performances I’ve seen out of Rush. Really, the band in its prime. Everything sounds great here, and Geddy’s vocals in this performance are about as good as they get.
Was at that show it was incredible and hooked me on Rush for the rest of my life
I just love the sound of the Steinberger...classic 80s
I don’t know why everybody hates on it. Like, ok it dosen’t look that good, but it has a really great tone, imo. I love it too.
It doesn't matter the instrument of any era. They know how to play it.
Yeah the bass sounds good for synth era Rush
I own a pre-Gibson XL2, she's my baby.
Geddy only used it for like one season or so.....went back to a P bass i think...
"He's old enough to know what's right
But young enough not to choose it
He's noble enough to win the world
But weak enough to lose it" !!!!!!
they inspired me and now i've had the great pleasure of having had a coupla new world men on loan!!!they're out there now!!!!loooooove RUSH!!!!so effin relatable!
They are one of my favorites. They give me goosebumps every time I listen to them!
Gawd, Neil is in his stellar prime---we will not see another like him 💯😞
Yep, and that TAMA kit sounds incredible too, never knew why he switched to DW.
@SuperCapt1701 Agree. The TAMA’s were my #1, but the Ludwig’s sounded as good as them. I always loved the snares that he used, when he was using Ludwig.
Genesis 2:4 "On the 8th day God created all musical instruments, Alex, Geddy, and Neil and He placed them in the Garden in Canada"
I remember when this song first came out. The lyrics fit me to a tee. I love the way I aged with the band. Counterparts has more grown up lyrics which was perfect for me at that age.
This concert footage proves that there was actually good music created in the 1980s.
Who said otherwise?
just so fukn good!!!
You can really see how much Geddy and Alex were such great friends that had so much fun together and still do (watch their recent Rush Beer and Mustard videos on RUclips!). 😊❤️
Everything in this video screams 80’s!
WOW!!! just WOW!!
Best rock band ever, 3 piece sounds like 8
RUSH introduced me to rock and roll
Never saw them. Looks like fun.
Love it, not much put threefold during this period, love ir, keep at it!
Rush é outro patamar.
Young Obi-Wan Kenobi years before Ewan McGregor
Geddy!!!
I want to express my opinion. RUSH...Fuck Yeah!
Alex is playing a fucking Telecaster, and the sound is so rich. Three guys, very talented. I have always been a RUSH fan!
The reggae. Fuck yeah! The 80's, my youth...Fuck yeah!
Geddy Lee, I'm sorry you voice finally went to shit 😮💨.
One more comment. The contrast between the rich sound coming from a fucking Telecaster and a Steinberger headless. Just beautiful!
Monsters !
Neil is NOT dead !!!
God just needed drum lessons
I would love to see Alex van Halen join them for a tribute concert would love to see the same with Van Halen but there isn't anyone who could take Edward van Halens place
Is Geddy a monster on the bass???
Lerxst was into the wine tonight, Neil.
Blah, blah, blah....
Who is Snowdog? Tight, Fuck Yeah! This is live! Bass players who also sing are very melodic! Fuck Yeah!
Have always been a RUSH fan, a little embarrassed. Always a fan!
A trio, all Canadian, very nerd. Right up my alley. Very talented!
Counting on technology to get us out of the mess technology has brought us to seems kind of foolish.
Consider the end result,... conquest of evil coming along perfectly.
@@bradbarnett5464 ? Say what you mean and mean what you say.
I dont know shit about guitars...but what is up with that weird bass with no tuning keys at the top?? It looks whimpy!
Many people used them in the 80s. Genesis, Van Halen, Geddy Lee, David Bowie. So they must have been good.
It was all the rage back then, looked strange but sounded good.
Crap bass. Love RUSH Forever
Alex is looking and playing quite fine here.....:)
Rush always seem to get more goofy as they their shows went on. At the start, they were usually more subdued, but during the second half they were all warmed up and goofed around with each other and the audience. Love Rush
My all-time favorite live band! I saw them perform this song in the early 80's on the Signals tour, always a fantastic jam!
PERFECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still contend Signals just might be their best overall collection of songs. There's so much diversity on that album when you think about it.
This song here is just a complete up-tempo Jam. But then of course also you have the song Losing It on that album. Probably one of the greatest mellow Tunes they ever did. And then of course don't forget Digital Man; The Countdown (written in honor of the very first space shuttle launching) & Witch Hunt.
Witch Hunt from Moving Pictures but otherwise agreed with all, Losing It one of my faves
Guessing you mean The Weapon, mate? Witch Hunt was on Moving Pictures, but The Weapon was on Signals, and Enemy Within was Grace Under Pressure.
All three of them looking and sounding fine! Never be another band like them!
Signals is probably my favorite too, especially for Analog Kid. "You move me - you move me" right after a huge synth swell always brings goose bumps and tears to my eyes. My version just doesn't seem to be recorded with a lot of clarity compared to their other albums. I hope they remastered it and I can get a brighter sounding version someday
Such a jam. So underrated!
Great audio. It's amazing to me how much better Ged's voice got as the years went by compared to most singers who sometimes struggle 40 years on.
Actually, his voice degraded in terms of his falsetto. That’s not unusual when one ages. He wasn’t able to hit those higher notes anymore. His mid-range however, stayed strong.
@@gasaholic47 Agree, he was screaming out exceptionally high notes in the earlier days. I actually prefer the more relaxed voice that came with age around the Signals album.
Geddys voice was juiced in this
He ruined his voice. Nearly constant touring in his prime, no breaks. A man’s voice, especially one like his, can only take so much.
Neil is pounding the skins in the 3 Heavens !!!
Damn those Tama wooden timbales sound great! He is hitting HARD...
Our Northern freedom loving brothers singing about their freedom hating Justininmensbutts UnTrudeau !!!!!!
Geddy Lee, my true love 💕
I was blessed enough to see this tour thank you rush for the best memories of my youth
Alex reminds me of that dude from flock of seagulls.
Accept he actually has talent besides a rad hair style like that sea gull dude.
@@davidcudlip6587 agreed brother! Miss those guys...
Um trio perfeito. O melhor dos melhores.
toyt, yes, toyt like a tyger
Sounds even better than the original...
Great....👏👏👏👏!!!
Alex with the old bruce springsteen telecaster. Sounds good for rush's light rock mid 80s years. He didnt use it much though.
We called him ....
"The Professor"
💪❤
Neil Peart funky as hell!!! RIP
witch hunt video disappear :-(
Might of got blocked, or Snowdog deleted it
I think maybe the witches were offended.
@@magneto7930 XD
Flawless
sensacional!!!
Was that a smile on Neil's face at 1:49? Yes, I think it was.
Yes, He smiles sometimes 😂
@SuperCapt1701 Alex made him laugh all the time. That’s probably where that smile was from, lol.
Alex is Amp'd to Fuck, bless him.
This is when Rush became Mush.
Alex steals my heart everytime. Period.
The peak of RUSH, the middle of 80s
