Just got a Mystic Edge and was kind of disappointed on the limited demo videos out there... until I saw yours and knew it would be great and informative. Fantastic insight as always. You sound great. Even used a Tele like mine! Thanks!
I have the mystic edge, I use it in standard mode straight in the front of my mesa lonestar which is a touch dark, to brighten it up and make it chime. Very happy with it tbh
Great demo, Pete! Neat features on these pedals. That metal Cutting Edge was pretty impressive. Not a sound I typically use, but for $180, it is definitely one of the more convincing pedals I've heard for that high-gain sound. Edit: I went ahead and got the Cutting Edge pedal through your Sweetwater link! Rock on! \m/
Great pedals, pedal level or pre-amp mode is so versatile. This type of thing is what I was considering to use with my PT15IR for "voxy" tones, wound up building an AC style amp which sounds great.... but this is definitely in the ballpark and a lot easier ; ) Cool demo Pete, love that Tele tone
I own silk drive and pretty happy with using it in pre-amp mode. It gives me that sound, great feeling while playing, goes along quite well with pedals on my board. Of course it's doesn't give that feeling when you play on 50W tube amp but it's way better than any solid state amps I played on.
Great review info's. As always on this channel. I'm thinking about using something like this as an all pedal format going direct. No amps, just straight to FOH. I love the new technology being used. It's a great time to be a guitar player. Thanks Pete.
I have owned the Copperhead for a few months now. Like you mentioned, the cab sim works great direct into my Apollo with some verb and delay. I like it for that setup specifically. It will not find its way into my pedalboard. Good stuff as usual Pete!
Pete, your tone and playing are, quite simply, inspiring. I love your videos and the solo work that you've done so far. Greatly looking forward to more. Thanks.
That Mystic Edge was really tight and focused, but not too compressed. Consider me impressed. Vox wins at making a pedal that captures their signature sound.
When you plugged into the PT100 at the end..... holy smokes! You’re an animal! Great demo Pete! Stop making me buy stuff!!!! (Don’t stop making me buy stuff....🙄)
"Holy Schnikes!" I thought the guitar was going to burst into flames during the Cutting Edge intro. That was surely Dave Mustaine level shred territory there! Superbly incredible.
Cool vid. One thing that has always been strange to me was pedals that use IR's... most don't have power amp simulation from what I understand. The power amp to me is part of what makes an amp unique. Anywho, still very cool pedals.
great vid as always. Just ordered copperhead which is on discount in the Netherlands at this moment. Really like to try all pedals that claim a plexi sound... cost me a fortune but great fun!
I woulda said Larry Carlton 'burn' sound rather than 'blues Lawyer', but po-tay-to, po-tah-to. I have the Silk Drive and that's what it does; a rose by any other name. There's insane amounts of treble on tap, so it can cover Steel Singer as well as ODS territory; stringy spank or rich, harmonic overdrive. I may need to get that Mystic edge, though; that milkshake-thick, mid-focused crunch really tickles my fancy and the clean and lead tones are also heavenly. Great demo!
I want hear all of them in their preamp mode compared. I am looking for a really great preamp in a pedal format. These look promising! Great job on those riffs/songs, love hearing you play 🤘!
All these pedals get are the temporary coverage as soon as they come out, and then they're slept on so hard, just because they're from Vox or whatever. - I'm glad I stumbled upon these in 2024 and they even announced more of them this year. I just don't know if they came out.
Thought Id report back here after buying the Mystic Edge since your video is the one that really sold me on it..😎Ya sold me a while back on the Suhr Koji comp as well..I got a used Mystic Edge from GC in GREAT condition and tried it with a 9V battery first. Sounded KILLER, workin as it should, startin dailin in settings for tunes then...after 15 min ...the LOW BATT came on..played about 5 more min then it totally quit?...No bypass , no FX mode...just dead...Got a brand new fully charged battery.....Same thing....Funny thing is, both batterys takin out were still fully charged?....WAAAAA!!!...Also, when usin a 9V pwr supp, the tone changes quite a bit..It gets a lil "fuzzy" less clean and less midrange?..I play alotta gigs where there no AC so this pedal is practically useless?..Ever hear of anyone havin the battery prob? Thanks!
They look really cool with the miving eq signal part. Just got a vox bobcat. You wouldnt believe how god of a guitar it is. Only problem was the pickgaurd had to come off over some interference. 😊
I really enjoy Pete's playing and compositions, they are a-ma-zing! But, I'm not kidding, it is a real concern: he's so good, everytime after watching his videos I still don't know if the pedals are any good or not. He can make ANYTHING sound good. That's an honest compliment, but it is also a huge problem.
Not if you're a company selling pedals :) - But I agree. The truth is that most modern pedals all sound good when a good player uses them. Here is how you know a pedal is really good.. look to see what is on their pedal board.
Thanks! It’s really a matter of just dialing stuff in correctly. Because almost everything these days sounds good, it’s just different flavors of good. Notice in the video that I stated that the copper head sounds best with the bright switch on my amplifier off. Something as simple as that can make or break the sound. Also most of the sound is in your hands. But gear these days is like coffee, it’s almost difficult to find a bad cup of coffee anymore right? You would go out of business trying to sell bad coffee because there’s so much good coffee.
Such a tight player, Pete! That brown explorer is naaaaahstay (in all the right ways) Have to say, I thought these were a total gimmick, but I hate to admit that I quite like the sound of them!
Hello, great video! I would have two questions about the Mystic Edge: in preamp and cab sim modes, can you add effects in line such as delays and harmonists? Second: do you think it’s possible to use a treble booster before the Mystic Edge and get that popular Brian May tone? Thanks in advance!
Yes. Two solutions. Cab sim direct to your HX in or loop. For even more flexibility, use the "preamp mode" and load your own cab (IR) in your HX. I use my ones direct into my audio interface using both solutions. Using IR from my neural plugins or many other ones. Killer because I have nice analogue sound (no aliasing caused by digital distortion, which creates harsh articfacts)
Can the new vox series pedals be used with any other series pedals; or are you limited to just linking these pedals with this valve series energy pedals?
Also I would love to know Pete - has the UAD box mostly taken the job of the Suhr RL box now? I dont need all the IR / extra functionality, so I think I am probably just gonna go with the Suhr (then use it with Softubes new Celestion plugin, which is amazing)
@@PeteThorn Cool! Makes sense. I am gonna grab the Suhr today. It seems to sound great in all the comparisons I have heard. They seem to do a good job on everything they make, so I trust em. Dying for one of their brown face heads too!But thats gonna have to wait a min.
I wish Vox would actually made a gainier tube amp like that copperhead pedal...but with actual tubes I hate the nutube gimmick for their amps but it works great for these pedals.
Great vid and even greater playing! I have a MOOER Preamp Live (watched your video and loved it). I'm using it with the 4-cable method so that I can use my amp's preamp side-by-side with the preamp models in the Preamp Live. I'm not 100% convinced with the tone and I find some of the preamps don't react quite the same way (or even close to) the actual amps they emulate. The Vox Valve Energy pedals seem much more convincing. The one plus of the MOOER is that it takes pedals very well. I stack my Vick Audio '73 Ram's Head on top of the Hiwatt preamp model and can get a reasonably convincing David Gilmourish tone...good enough for my home practice uses, anyhow. So is there any chance you know how well these Vox pedals take overdrive and fuzz pedals when used as a preamp?
Great jams as always Pete! I’d be interested to know how these stack up against other tube driven preamp pedals and if the nutube technology really hangs with the tried and true vacuum tube.
It's a funny topic. I was in Nashville and spent time in the honky tonks, sitting in and whatnot. The musicians that work alot have an expression for Taylor guitars. They call them "Lawyer-guitars" because only Lawyers can afford to buy them. All other guitarists who play out far more often (as in "for a living") play the cheaper Martins, or in my case, a Seagull acoustic. So it's funny how the class divide shows up in these things.
Hmm ... There is something there that doesnt sound amp like to me , It seems like the idividual attack from the vox at the begining each string seems like gets a instant power blast and then calms down on each individual scale note your hitting that im not crazy about , Ill have to investigate a little more
What Pete calls demos, everybody calls masterpieces
Hey thanks! :) I’m glad u dig the tunes!
True. Sometimes i get myself trying to play his "demo" songs :) BEOD and Cerberus just to name a few
He puts so much passion into creating and playing them it’s truly something else
hahaha - so true, so true :)
Always enjoy your videos, Pete!
I watch most of the demos, regardless of being interested in the product or not. The arrangements are so cool!
Thanks so much!
Loving the sound of that "cutting edge".

I'm thinking about getting one as well, but I may get a Waza Metal Zone instead.
don't you find it too noisy past 12'o clock?
I hope Pete can compile all his jam intros into an album. I'd put it on loop for days!

Whatever you get for doing these demos, it isn’t enough! The art and mastery you show here is incredible.
Thanks Scott!

The little Vox AC amp sounds damn good, too. The valve technology is pretty interesting.
The "Mystic Edge" is awesome!
Pete's getting more "guitar face" these days. Love it. You rock Pete!
pure VOX gold at 8:00 in the video / the cool thing is AC30's are really loud to get that solo tone... here you can get it at room volume (nice)
That Mystic Edge was really tight and focused, but not too compressed. Consider me impressed. Vox wins at making a pedal that captures their signature sound.
Love this review with the music..incridible..
Your guitar face was on point in that last solo.
I'll take that Mystic Drive (Vox sound). 👍
6:27 sounds great (and like Pete Townshend!) Great video thanks!
Cool pedals, I'm very interested in the vox one. Fantastic playing as always.
Puts so much passion into these.
These demo songs are just epic! Keep up the awesome work
Wow.. like all of these pedals, the last Cutting Edge tone has a nice almost EVH quality..impressive.
Great Track Pete...ripping it up
When you plugged into the PT100 at the end..... holy smokes! You’re an animal! Great demo Pete! Stop making me buy stuff!!!! (Don’t stop making me buy stuff....🙄)
You just make everything better, cheers mate!

Man, those sound amazing! You have an epic rhythm, man. Have you considered a detailed discussion on the importance of rhythm and melody?
Thank you! I guess that would make a good video. Or rather two videos
great vid as always. Just ordered copperhead which is on discount in the Netherlands at this moment. Really like to try all pedals that claim a plexi sound... cost me a fortune but great fun!
Insane solo at the end! 👌
Great! Again. Thank you!
Great video Pete!!! Thanks again!!!
I love that Ibanez explorer
That cutting edge sounded very clear and full at the same time. Interest is peaked.

very interesting. That channel switch- link is pretty cool. Probably gonna get the cutting edge & copperhead..
That Marshall sounds pretty great
Just discovered this…… Again great Job :- ) Pete …… THX…… Hope to see again U in Mannheim next year!!
I want hear all of them in their preamp mode compared. I am looking for a really great preamp in a pedal format. These look promising! Great job on those riffs/songs, love hearing you play 🤘!
Yep, these seem promising for sure. You might want to go to Bluguitar.com and check out the Amp1 pedals. Same idea/technology, lotsa features.
I second the guy above me. I used to have a bluguitar amp1 iridium. Sounded and felt amazing to play.
Great video, very concise thank you.
I liked the Mystic Edge and Cutting Edge best! Greatest demo as per usual Pete!

Where do you plug your amp if there is no AC? Anyway, check power sources for pedals with rechargeable battareis built-in, there are some.

Mystic Edge sounds great. Glad I found it before I got gouged on a discontinued/used Wampler Ace Thirty on Reverb/eBay
Sound great, Are you using a Noise gate when using the Cutting Edge?
That Destroyer is all kinds of awesome, I see why you “jumped” on that...
Yes, just thinking the same!
Hello, great video! I would have two questions about the Mystic Edge: in preamp and cab sim modes, can you add effects in line such as delays and harmonists? Second: do you think it’s possible to use a treble booster before the Mystic Edge and get that popular Brian May tone? Thanks in advance!
You got soul in dem Der fingers boy!
Pete, you should make this demo available on Spotify or something. Amazing!
The first pedal with the cab setting and echoplex with the Explorer sounded a lot like Rory Gallagher early tones!
Hi Pete,
Awesome Demo as Usual.
Could you use this as a Preamp for a Direct solution ,
EG -Line 6 HX Stomp or Strymon Iridium. ?
thanks Mate..
Yes. Two solutions. Cab sim direct to your HX in or loop. For even more flexibility, use the "preamp mode" and load your own cab (IR) in your HX. Jealous of your Destroyer, Pete. Very nice axe
VOX the sound of rock n roll
Hey Pete, Thornbuckers look they are good for direct mount. Safe assumption ? Making decisions for my latest build.
Man that Ibanez is cool!
Hey Pete, great demo as usual! Can you please tell me what kind of clamp you're using to hold the pedals while recording? Thanks!
It’s like a shop c clamp that someone gave me!
Looks like a panavise. Commonly used to hold stuff while your soldering. They usually have a ball head so you can put the jaws at any angle.
Can the new vox series pedals be used with any other series pedals; or are you limited to just linking these pedals with this valve series energy pedals?
The copperhead sounded like it was doing that tubby 800 low end thing think it could be tightened up with a tube screamer?
Also I would love to know Pete - has the UAD box mostly taken the job of the Suhr RL box now?
I dont need all the IR / extra functionality, so I think I am probably just gonna go with the Suhr (then use it with Softubes new Celestion plugin, which is amazing)

Did u have the mystic edge in the fx loop or somewhere else in the chain?
Vox doing metal?? Sounded pretty good.
I wish Vox would actually made a gainier tube amp like that copperhead pedal...but with actual tubes
I hate the nutube gimmick for their amps but it works great for these pedals.
Great vid and even greater playing!

What would the best pedal be for a clean AC30 ?
Maybe like for the AC30 6TBX
Could you eq the cutting edge to sound like soldano?
Great jams as always Pete! I’d be interested to know how these stack up against other tube driven preamp pedals and if the nutube technology really hangs with the tried and true vacuum tube.
Came for the pedals and got distracted by that Ibanez.
Is it bad that when Pete says "The Blues Lawyer Sound" that I know exactly what he means??
I used to think this meant Joe Bonamassa, but now I’ve no idea. Can someone give me an example of a musician with a “blues lawyer” sound?
@@edwardjons8684 If you make more than 400k a year (take home) buy a dumble and a Vintage Strat...um...that's the tone.
I have several Two-Rock amps and get paid to sign things...that blues lawyer line cut me a little.
It's a funny topic. I was in Nashville and spent time in the honky tonks, sitting in and whatnot. The musicians that work alot have an expression for Taylor guitars. SRV-style blues tones on a strat played in sports bars across america...
When "PETE THORN' talks and jams " guitarists listen" !
i prefer vox cooltro,n for that tone
Ah but has it got a VECTORSCOPE?
Gibson for me is always the best tone. 👏👏
0:43-0:48.. I came..
To many premiere's and live streams in the guitar world...lot's of time collisions now..😳
these pedals are not a must have
they look pretty cool but the sounds are definitely not fantastic vs tube preamp pedals
Whichever one sounds closest to a '93 Peavey bandit is the only one you'll ever need.

Cutting Edge was pretty good. Others were meh....
it sounded good until the leads.
Way beyond me, all I know is to plug into an amp and maybe a treble boost or wha in between.
