Pete - Thanks a million for having me come in to join the party - I had a great time!! That Bad Cat is a dangerous little amp and your playing is, as always, exemplary. And for the couple of folks who inquired, those are indeed the Thornbuckers you hooked me up with a couple years ago in my LP. Still delivering! Thanks again and safe travels, brotherman! -jamie
Pete, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come back to your videos just for the music and guitar playing. You always write and produce pieces that not only perfectly highlight the gear you’re presenting…they’re also just cool tunes in their own right, and this one is no exception. Nicely done, as always!
That intro was epic! 10 out of 10.. This is great news. I had the Matchless DC-30, lost it in Katrina. What an amazing amplifier it was. A clean you couldn’t beat with and incredible overdriven tone. Gonna have to check this out..
I have a Sampson era ‘94 DC-30, a lot of similarities and subtle improvements. This is an example of why they’re so expensive. It’s easy to get a good sound. The tones in this vid are glorious.
AWESOME amp...I might just have to jump on one based on your review. Man...ENDLESS PROPS to Jamie for the ripping, melodic and fluid playing. Gorgeous...how are you guys not making music together :)
That amp is so warm and buttery. I like it because it isn’t hairy but like silk. It feels like the feeling you get when your warm coffee with milk or cream hits the insides.
The amp sounds great (great playing as always, plus your guest player is awesome too), but I've always been a bit confused about the Matchless - Bad Cat provenance. I get that this is an updated take on the OG DC-30, but Matchless still offers a modern DC-30 also. The two aren't identical by any means, but similar still. I never played an original DC-30 other than a brief in-store tryout, but a friend had an original Bad Cat Cub that I played quite a bit, really killer amp for sure. I guess neither company has ever totally gone away? In any case, it's a great sounding amp, just wondering about the history of the two companies.
A little off topic but I have a UGLY amp head 18watt I wish I could hear you play through. Made in the USA it's got a Bright and Normal that's it outside of the tone control. It's pretty much clean all the time.
This amp is going to be absolutely epic and no doubt (based on limited numbers & Mark Sampson’s involvement) is going to be Epically EXPENSIVE even compared with Matchless! I’m just guessing but logic dictates…
It's point a point, it's tough to build I think, and it's Mark Sampson so all that… it's an expensive ride, but for some folks worth it, others will make other choices
@ @ all understandable and valid points Pete. I just feel like it should be closer to $3k, then I’d have more interest. My take is everyone needs to get paid on an amp like this to include Bad Cat and Sampson which helps drive the cost up as well. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what I believe, the market will dictate if it’s overpriced or a good value.
Sounds like Mark Sampson is a great Amp Designer and terrible businessman. He’s competing now with his own most popular design that he doesn’t have rights to anymore.. it’s Leo Fender rev2. Nobody really wanted G&L guitars no matter how much “better” they were. EF86 is not more compressed at all than the 12Ax7 side. That’s kind of an oxymoron if you know the difference b/t these two preamps. Ef86 has more gain but not compression. The ef86 is actually better cleans IMO if you keep it dialed right.
It's not cheap, but it's a limited amp that's US made fully point to point, etc. There's plenty of options for Amp in all price categories, this is definitely an exclusive boutique sort of affair, nothing wrong with that.

Jamie Kime is a monster. That solo and the tone he dialed up were RIPPING.
Yes that Gibson Les Paul coupled with the Bad Cat amp is wonderful!
He's a total badass

Thanks so much! That's always my goal- just to have a good piece of music that shows the stuff off!
Hi Pete, you wrote BAT cat!
Edge of breakup - is that when your girlfriend spies that guitar shaped package in the porch?
"Being prepared turns opportunities into successes." Thanks for encouraging us to always stay ready!

All the tones are sublime, but that switch change at 12:12 is 🤌
Cool to hear Jaime play. I've heard so much from you and Dave about his playing over the years.
Some take it for granted but making music is so special 😊❤😊
I had a Hot Cat combo for a while that was a beast! This video has me pining for another Bad Cat. Great tones!
Always such tasteful playing and killer chops. Major props
Yet another great amp from them I have four of them from the original Mark era. Nothing better than those Bad Cats. thank you 🙏
The Era 30 is a cool amp!
Love the blend feature, pre and post PI volume. Jamie Kime's solo is great!
That gain-volume structure is a great idea. Play the amp in the zone and have the volume where you want it.
Damn that amp Sounds killer! Great playing dudes-loved jamie’s solo! Also, pete hope youre home and studio are safely away from the fires brother. 🤞
Thank u!

Awesome playing Pete and awesome sounding amplifier ❤ 🔥
AWESOME amp...I might just have to jump on one based on your review. Man...ENDLESS PROPS to Jamie for the ripping, melodic and fluid playing. Gorgeous...how are you guys not making music together :)
He's so good
Aloha Pete! Aloha Everyone!
00:58 So much petrucci's take the time solo vibe. Great!
Sounds Gorgeous!!!
Hi Pete, just wanted to say that i really love your intros!
Thank you so much!
Great stuff Pete. Seems like you can use the dual masters a little bit like the power scaling on the Suhr Badgers.
Another album track Pete!
Crikey! This amp costs more than my 2 Friedmans and Soldano combined! ❌
Super tasty playing! 🤘🏼
Bat Cat sounds like a new super hero😉
Auto correct?
But seriously, great playing and sound, as usual.
Hope you stay safe.
✌✌
Hats Off Gents... Fine job.. 3 Bad Cats!!!
Epic playing !
Outstanding amp.. i want one! Thx Pete,
best amp Ive ever heard
Sounds great brother
That's a broadly useful amp, right there!
That amp is so warm and buttery. I like it because it isn’t hairy but like silk. It feels like the feeling you get when your warm coffee with milk or cream hits the insides.
Warm coffee with CREAM!!🎶🎶🎶
Any way Jamie would be willing to share what pickups are in his guitar for the solo? Incredible pairing with the Sampson amp! Cheers.
Thorn Buckers!
At least I think so, I gave him a set a while ago and he put them in and liked them so I think they're still in there
@ Really? Wow! So alive and expressive. First time I heard him rip and it left an impression.
@@jalapainyohe's so good, it's in his hands.
Refined. That's it. 😸

they have a combo version?
That Suhr sounds more like a Strat than a Strat. As soon as the opening riff started I heard Eric Clapton playing Cocaine.
man that was a tasty jam
Thanks!
What brand is that lespaul?😀
A little off topic but I have a UGLY amp head 18watt I wish I could hear you play through. Made in the USA it's got a Bright and Normal that's it outside of the tone control. It's pretty much clean all the time.
What pickups are in the les paul Jamie is playing?
Shitting hell that’s some guitar Jammin!
🧡🧡🧡
Sounds incredible!! But the price is high.
That thing sounds amazing. Very versatile. Too bad it's $4k and made of unobtainium.
This amp is going to be absolutely epic and no doubt (based on limited numbers & Mark Sampson’s involvement) is going to be Epically EXPENSIVE even compared with Matchless! I’m just guessing but logic dictates…
They've gone back to real point to point wiring for this amp it seems. Sweet.
It's very nice, but, MUCH like the DC 30, that Brian May rejected, it just DOESN'T sound like an AC 30, which is ALL I want from an amp!
Why the duct tape over the Gibson logo on the Les Paul headstock?
Jamie's guitar, you'd have to ask him!
Might be the coolest Les Paul I’ve seen in a while.
Make Kime a permanent guest!!
$3,900. For a 30W amp. Thats a whole lot of money exchanging hands.
It depends on what you want. I am trying to get $5K moved out for a 200W amp, I think that is a trifling amount for what I want. You do you.
It's point a point, it's tough to build I think, and it's Mark Sampson so all that… it's an expensive ride, but for some folks worth it, others will make other choices

Bat cat??? Um Bad Cat 😂
is this the same amp Taylor Swift plays?
Taylor Swift don’t play😂😂😂😂
*Bad
Checks price. DOH

Make Kime a permanent guest!!
He's doing a solo on another upcoming video! He's awesome, I love having him sit in. This will be the third one he's done on my videos
