    Not gonna lie....I straight up cried when I read the quest name...."You're not alone"
    FFIX was truly special and seeing its plot devices reworked (just like FFIII's) makes FFXIV that much more special to players of the older games.

    • @Sevenhens
      @Sevenhens Год назад +13

      Btw there's more FFIX references I can think of.
      The theme of nihilism is absolutely huge in Endwalker. Kuja and Fandaniel/Meteion both struggled with the meaning of life and chose the path of nihilism and destruction, while the WoL and Zidane/Vivi lived for their friends and family despite the circumstances of their humanity (or lack thereof).
      Meteion's plan to disrupt the lifestream of cycle and rebirth is exactly like Garland's plan with the Iifa tree siphoning souls and preventing the recycling to the planet.

    The opening cinematic of Heavensward also has a scene where the WoL is in ishgard and he opens a window and then the camera pans out to show the rest of ishgard from the sky. This is reminicisent of the opening of FF9 where Garnet opens a window in Alexandria Castle and the window pans out to view the whole city from the same sky view

    My Miqo'te has a Garnet glamour for White Mage and I queued for normal raid roulette to find myself in Cruise Chaser. I thought it was absolutely hilarious fighting Ark as Garnet(especially because the weapon I have glamoured REALLY looks a LOT like the Pumice item icon in FF9).
    I was already breaking down in Ultima Thule, but when I got to "the walk" with the music playing and saw "You're Not Alone" I just lost it.

      I use a Beatrix inspired glamour as my main outfit for both Dragoon & Paladin in FFXIV. As a mainly Dragoon player I hope we soon get a gear set modelled after Freya Crescent's appearance (it would certainly be nice with something just a bit different from various collections of spikes as Dragoon gear often seems to become).

    @Commenter23412341235 Год назад +39

    Missed one: there's a minor wyvern-like mob in Rak'tika called Gizmaluke. Also, Fandaniel has some very Kuja-like mannerisms, and end up filling a similar role in that their despair bring about the appearance of a cosmic being that wants to bring about the end of life. Other than that, really glad more people are noticing how Hades' "wings" are a giant reference to the Oilvert mural.
    The one reference I keep waiting for them to make however is the Black Waltzes; I'm hoping maybe they appear as corrupted Ascians or something in a future Pandaemonium raid. I know the name comes from FFII, but maybe some references to the IX version can pop up too- maybe a Silver/Nova Dragon?

    • @jochemdekoning7010
      @jochemdekoning7010 Год назад +4

      Nova Dragon's original japanese name is actually Shinryu, so that makes Nova Dragon technically a FF5 reference within FF9 :P He uses tidal wave just like Shinryu as well

      It's also worth mentioning that if you look at the Yoshitaka Amano art for Kuja, he is literally accompanied by a twin-tailed blue bird, so I think it's safe to say that the Kuja-like mannerisms exerted by Fandaniel were VERY intentional and most certainly a reference.

  • @Sacrengard

    The fact that you have to go through the tempest to find Emet and fight Hades at the end its itself is a reference to where you find Hades in FF9 in the ocean room in memoria. Both Hades are underwater. Although is not the only Hades that you can find underwater; in FF7 the Hades materia can be found in the sunken airship in the bottom of the ocean. So it would be originally a FF7 reference...
    Either way, it was a BIG tell of who the final boss would be once I stepped into the tempest... I knew/suspected hades would be the final boss, and when I got to "that scene" I gasped and was like: I KNEW IT!!!!
    BTW great video! I cant think of anything you might have missed, great job!

    Quite the amazing watch including all the ones prior. The only thing I noticed myself that was missed in regards to FF9 references is the parallel connecting Dynamis and Trance. Dynamis was mentioned as a 'form of energy reacting to a surge of emotions' and the very first instance of Trance in FF9 when Zidane Trances during the Prison Cage fight, Steiner quotes "What is that light?! Could it really be Trance..? Trance is induced by a surge of emotion". Excellent work though, there was even some things I missed. Can't wait to see the rest of them

    3:55 I also use this song during the first half of the "bloody banquet" in my FFXIV series. Season 1, Episode 20 "When the Music Stops", before Aymeric makes his speech.
    This was a great video. The only FF games I've finished to the end of the story are XIV and XV, and I have only watched let's plays of a few of the other games, III, IV and VI. Due to my limited experience with the franchise, a lot of the references in XIV go right over my head, so videos like this are greatly appreciated.

    One thing I read recently is that while the Hades fight in Shadowbringers is a heavy reference to the summon in FFVII, the fact that Emet-Selch is found at the bottom of the ocean in a city recreated from memories, which could be an allusion to Hades in FFIX being encountered in an underwater section of Memoria

    I wonder if you might look into this. I noticed Final Fantasy's 9 ATM system and the Final Fantasy 14, "The Echo" to see if they might reference to one another. I noticed when you go to the Moogle to save or receive a letter from them that we get an ATM playback scenario to watch an event that is significant to the storyline of FF9. Also, I have noticed The Echo is a playback feature, which we can watch a playback that is significant to story of Main quest in FF14. Of Course, the difference is that you go to the character, in order, to watch the playback feature. It would be interesting to see that the ATM and The Echo are one in the same. It is just a thought.

    Thank you youtube for this video suggestion lol.
    And now I've been spending my time watching all your series, watched 9, then 1 through 6, going to 7 next.
    Questions:
    - 1, 2 and 3 were made before EW. I'm not even sure if there are 1 2 n 3 references on EW, but if they exist, are you planning on re-uploading them appending the EW information ? And f yes, let us know so I can re-watch!
    - Are you thinking in putting all Ivalice related stuff (FF12, FFT FFTA, FFTA2, Vagrant Story) in a single video or will you do separately for each game?

    • @Autobalance
      @Autobalance  Год назад +2

      I've made a What I Missed (Part 1) video on my channel if you want to check it out! It's not all of them and I'm still compiling all the missed references including any new ones that are introduced in the patches. There will be a part 2 for sure after the FFXV video. I'll also be making a video about the plans after the series is done because FFXIV is still ongoing and so I plan on doing reference videos for as long as the game continues to be updated.
      I'm still deciding on whether I'll have FF12 as its own and all the tactics as one, or if I do all of the ivalice stuff together. The only reason I'm considering splitting because FF12 has the most amount of references (aside from FF11) in FF14. The Ivalice raids and Bozja/Zadnor alone already makes FF12 have more than any other game in the series. I'm also making a "other FF references (type-0, Crystal Chronicles, etc.)" video as well so that's where the other ivalice games will go. For now, tentatively FF12 will be separate but that might change.

    • @RaphaelDDL
      @RaphaelDDL Год назад

      @@Autobalance Thank you for the reply. I watched the video you mentioned now (and all FFs reference ones so far, GREAT WORK!).
      Yeah, I mostly asked regarding 12 because not only has the entire bozja and whatnot, but also an entire raid series, plus the vieira and everything else, which is not ALL exactly "12", but it's a mix of the entire Ivalice Alliance.
      We got Ramza and Alma from FFT going into Dalmasca from 12 which then you fall into an old FFT city, so it's very intertwined. From a story standpoint, making an Ivalice video makes more sense so you can lay down the entire story in one go
      But at same time, due to number of references, might be too big and maybe going by game instead is better, but it'll probably be harder to make the timeline reference unless you keep quoting the older videos.
      Nevertheless, great work so far, I'm hoping to see more in the future, specially that mostly half of the references specially from old games I missed and whne I watched your video I was like "OHHH so that's why I found it familiar" or even "oh sh!t I didn't know that" haha
      It'll be specially great on the next videos for me, because I didn't finish FF10 back in PSX nor the HD remaster I own, barely started 10-2, never played 11 (I just know Shantotto is from it), never went far in 13, and never touched 13-2 or 13-3.. So everything you show will be news to me (other than shantotto event and Lightning's events from back then).
      And will be great to see what I've missed from 12 and Ivalice because I love it and played 12 a ton back in ps2 rofl.

    In FF9 and Endwalker the final bosses are driven by very comparable motivations. Both Necron and the Meteia drive on extreme nihilism. Both of them react to the mysery around them (Necron by Kuja's despair and destruction and the Meteia sisters by discovering the ruins and pain on other stars). Both come to the conclusion that life is pointless and a burden and see death as a gift. FFV also had a similar villain, Square really loves their nihilist boss trope.

    Thanks for sharing your information of some references from ff9 with ff14. Also, I noticed the Goblin greeting of Lalli-ho is similar to the Goblin greeting of Rallie-ho from Condo Pette. Also, Sea of Clouds remind me of the Chocobo Air Garden in FF9 if the Air Garden was in 3d. In addition, I do not know why, but I feel the music Melodies of Life would be a perfect music for Shadowbridgers. The story of Shadowbridgers reminded me of FF9 from beginning till end. Final Fantasy 9 was my 1st Final Fantasy game I played, so I want my character to play homage to ff9. I am curious of thing. When Albert asks us to take his axe could be in reference to FF9 when we choose 4 characters to defeat Necron, and the other for are giving up their energy to him. I know with Aldbert's axe we were able to defeat Hades.
    Lastly, I am wondering if you are going to do combination of characters. For instance, Vaulthry. I can see a lot of elements from ff7, ff8, ff9 in one person. I notice you mention Sephiroth. Also, he reminds me of Queen Brahme by his demeanor. His face reminds me of Don Corneao, and he is as high as the slug thing in ff8, which was in the Balamb Airship.

      "Lali-ho" is actually originally from the original, though it's Dwarves that say it there

      @@Iffem True. The emote is the same as Rally Ho from FF9. I do like it if we pick the dialogue of Rally-HO. The dwarves from ff14 find it to be insulting. I meant the dwarves, but I am not too worried about it.

      There's actually a direct reference to the Conde Peite dwarves... I think it's in the shadowbringers dwarf tribe quests? If not it's definitely somewhere with the dwarves.
      You have the option of saying "R-Ralleigh-ho?" When one of them beckons to you, which is a direct line-for-line reference to when Vivi enters Conde Peite for the first time!

    Now that you mention the masks in the Hades fight i can confirm my always hunchs that Hades is inspired in Black Mages Waltz from 9, cause eyes etc... and seeing that Emelch is a BLM in Elpis chapter i think it can be legit.

    I swear, ShB was supposed to be the FF9 expansion, and it got hijacked by Viera. Vamo Alla Flamenco, the jesters, the fact that the 'generic' Sin Eater looks like a burmecian with a deformed face and wings, hell the fact there was a *dancer* class to begin with.
    But no, gotta chase those bunny thongs.

      I mean let's face it eulmore drew parallels to treno and the stark class differences there. When it's featured in the opening cutscene it's where my mind went straight away. With the far cats quite literally lording it above everyone else.

      You can sorta fudge it with the Drindi top with tights, both dyed orange. Though, you're rather limited with gloves needing big sleeves attached to them, like the Eikon leather aiming ones, though there are WHM ones that can do the same.

    I literally just started playing 9 for the first time yesterday so I'll be back to watch this afterwards 😭

      8 had some great ideas, but were executed weirdly, and the last quarter of the game was just straight up 5D chess nonsensical. It has it's fair share of lovers, for me personally I don't hate the game but it's low on the list of ones to replay.

    FFIX, the most cartoony FF of its era. Looks funny, stupid, and nothing cool like FFVIII.
    Vivi is a crybaby, Zidane is silly, Steiner is stupid, Garnet is bland, Freya is boring, Eiko is a brat, Amaranth is an emo, and Quina is just plain weird.
    That was me at a young age, i didn't play through the game myself, and i don't want to read this silly cartoony game.
    It was because i wanted to play the game myself that i started reading the story. I found it interesting, but still, nothing compare to FFVIII.
    Once i reached a certain age, i went back to it due to nostalgia and the love for its main theme "The place i will return to someday", the most memorable theme of all time for me.
    I was crushed by those same dialogues I've read through and the characters i made fun of. Even the main theme can drive me to tears.
    It was quite a coincidence and pretty poetic that the main theme brought me back to the game.
    This silly cartoony game is the best FF for me.

      I understand it. Some of them are pretty bad. A lot of people probably hear about 7 the most, start with that and then don't bother with the rest after. Which is a shame, because some like 9 are actually really good.
