It’s not even that they’re bad games at all. Xlll2 and LR both had very fun combat systems and og 13 in my opinion probably has some of the best world building in FF just as a whole (yeah the story isn’t presented in the most cohesive way, but once you actually put it together it’s really interesting). This might be controversial, but I kind of hope after 7R is done that square give 13 another chance (no, no more sequels we don’t need anymore), but rather release the OG 13 as a sort remake/remaster thing. I honestly think if they make a couple, not a lot of changes just a few gameplay quality of life adjustments like being able switch characters during combat or reworking the summon system, restructure the storytelling a tad and 13 would go from being one of the most overlooked entries to potentially one of the most beloved. We also need to remember that 13 was a symptom of early 2010s square-Enix development syndrome. It was planned for the ps2, but got pushed to ps3 and for most of development process the team simply didn’t know what they wanted to do with. As for xlll2 and LR yeah I got nothing for those two unless they completely redid the story for both I’d be fine with them simply fading into obscurity

      @@jakelawrence6618 YES ! YES
I'VE BEEN CHANTING THIS IN A VOID FOR EVER
I'm really dreaming of a final definitive deluxe rework version of XIII that's actually good
because the world and lore and themes of FFXIII were always absolutely great imo as not-so-enjoyable as the game might be.
like for example cocoon ??? bitch they live on the inside of a freakin dyson sphere ?!? and where do we notice this in game ? basically nowhere, never is it used clearly and creatively for any of the environments (like I dunno, a cliff at the top of cocoon with the starry night sky at your feet or meadows with the horizon going up) or even the skybox for that matter.
It's only a small example but yeah EVERY SINGLE environment in this game could have been out of this world unique and stunning and yet here we are with "dull peaks" or whatever and the absolutely incomprehensible bodhum area of the tutorials...
aside from the world and planet and whatever of the game, Fal'cies are GREAT, I mean, mechanical space god freaks ? sign me in. using humans as cattle, or pets at best ? love that, I'd even say crank the disturbing-meter even higher, but yeah love Fal'cies
Defying fate is a great overall theme imo and yeah, as we clearly both think, this game could have been a groundbreaking sci-fi FF
(also yeah fuck 2 and LR in terms of story, the first one is clearly self-sufficient and cohesive)

There's a couple things I wanted to point out!
▪︎The FFXIII Ochu model can be seen as early as the Azim Steppe (they are in the south of the area map).
▪︎Perhaps less relevant but might still be fun to point out. Physical copies of FFXIII originally included beta test codes for FFXIV 1.0, giving a choice between the PC and PS3 versions. Due to the poor reception of 1.0, the PS3 beta test was canceled, but the codes were made valid again for the ARR beta test. (Edit: the code was for an item in 1.0 according to an old Siliconera article. I thought I posted a link in reply to this but I might have forgot to send it...?)

I have always though of Garlemald capital as a nod to FF15's Niflheim capital. They are both empire' capital, main bad guys city, technologically advanced.... and when the heroes finally get there everything is already destroyed by a new threat, in ruins, then even look similar, cold city ruins with a tall building in the background, sad music.... I think there are so many similarities that it was worth to mention.
I also think Aumarot feels like Insomnia, but that might just be me.
And lastly, Emet and Ardyn seem to have very similar personalities, bery sassyor pompous but suffering inside with some kind of resentment with a deep connection to the main protagonist... maybe just a coincidence

I feel ya although I think a remake would probably be better. Most of the problems 13 has unfortunately can’t be fix with a simple update. The combat for example while interesting in concept is kind of a cluster fuck and don’t even get me started on the summon system, that thing needs a full on retake. The story while interesting isn’t presented in the most cohesive way, the English localization is so horrible that it makes some of the ps1 era ff games look like absolute master pieces. I get the idea of giving 13 a second chance, believe me I’ve been saying it for years. However, I don’t want just a half assed remaster, if 13 is to truly be giving the justice it deserves everything more or less needs to be reevaluated and possibly redesigned

I do feel there's something which was missed in this video, which could give you a more content for 13:
While isn't a "13 reference in 14" per se, you could've included the "13 code in 14", aka, 14 1.0 team being forced to use and adapt the crystaltools that made 13 because SE was stuck with their head in their asses regarding "graphics above all", which ultimately, together with bad mechanic choices, plagued 14 1.0 development entirely. I know there's noclip documentary and whatnot, but I still think it would've added a lot to the video, even if just as an overview since it's entirely 13's dev kit that plagued 14 initially. :P
    Regarding 15, I didn't know there was a 14 event inside 15, that's cool!
Yoshi-P is smart, I assume we'll get a crossover of 16 in 14 just like the promotion of lightning returns around launch time so you might have content for 16 soon xD
I'm eager to see the tactics videos :D Good job!

In Final Fantasy 15 COMRADES, the opening sequences of the game, you will start of riding on the back end of a truck heading to Lestallum. As you riding, Libertus from Kingsglaive is talking to your character before going to the battle tutorial and entering the city. It reminds me of our characters in Final Fantasy 14 riding on the back end of the carriage or riding on a ship before reaching one of the three city states of Eorzea.

I really wish they repeat both these events + the two FF11 ones, with new rewards. In fact, they could give us things that are already in game. I mean, the 2 music themes from FFXIII that appeared in the event as Orchestrion Rolls, or the Niflheim soldiers' armor as glam.

I hope in a future video. You might want to mention the title of Oracle. Lunafreya is known as the Oracle in Final Fantasy 15. Ryne(aka Minfilia) is known as the Oracle in Shadowbringers. Also, the compass from Final Fantasy 14 and the MSQ quest, including the duty quest music will play as Noctis and the gang complete the task of defeating Garuda. I would not worry about what you missed. I have been replaying Final Fantasy 14, and I fine myself analyzing the story of Final Fantasy has little references to each game in the series, as well as, outside of the franchise. Personally, I feel the developers are pay homage to each of the games, which I respect. Pretty soon, you will have reference from Final Fantasy 16 when it comes out. Know that feeling and while I’d say xv isn’t a bad not by any means. It’s one a good bulk of us didn’t want. The funny thing all this honesty could’ve been avoided if sqaure simply planned out better. Let’s say for example when making 13, type-0 and versus they could planned the preproduction process after they completed the crystal tool engine and made said engine with all three core team each providing their imput and request all at once that way the engine wouldn’t have been as one sided as it where.
As for xiv1.0 and DQ10 (yes because for some reason this engine also had to work with two MMOs) same process. Yeah it’s another engine you have to develop, but this way it doesn’t overlap development with single player games. Truthfully the only consequence of this would be that 1.0 would potentially be successful and thus no reason for yoshi-p to take it over. I don’t know I don’t think I could make sacrifices if I could considering just how much respect I have for yoshi-p and his team

What sucks even more is that both xiii-2 and LR aren’t even bad games if you look at them in a vacuum and both have very interesting and unique ideas. Every thing about Valhalla and 800Af characters are very interesting even well written I’d argue, but the problem is the story that we got more are less completely retconed the original games ending. lR has an interesting premise of a world without time and the mythos surrounding the deity’s of the universe are probably some of the most interesting concepts in ff game in opinion.
