When you enter camp dragonhead, the room where Haurchefant gives you the first quests... there is a group of recruits doing squats. Their commander is telling them that he knows a guy called Zack, who is doing sqats way better than them ^^

Some additional stuff I though might be or straight up are VII references:
    1. An NPC in Yanxia named Hojo. In his quest "Beyond the Powers of Stone" he is "searching for a strapping specimen to help with some heavy lifting."
    2. In the first area of The Dead Ends dungeon the houses you see look very similar to the shell shaped houses in City of the Ancients. Plus the referens to a sickness that turned the habitants into monsters, much like what happened to the Cetra after Jenova appeared.
    3. This may be just me but the end of the lvl 30 Gladiator quest, the final confrontation between Aldis and Leavold, was very reminiscent of how it ended between Barret and Dyne. Especially Dyne and Leavold meeting the same fate and them having been old friends just like Barret and Dyne.
And just as a extra note, in the Japanese dub of FFXIV they straight up refer to Thordan and his knights as Knight of Round after you've fought them in primal form.

    Here's some stuff ya missed:
The hairstyle "Great Lengths" is based on Sephiroth's hairstyle. Additionally, the idle stance for male Samurais is based on his winpose. Probably as a fun little jab, during the end of the 5.4 story, Zenos is seen holding the Odenta, a nodachi weapon for Dark Knights, probably in reference to how he and Sephiroth seem pretty similar.
The Heavens' Ward full on attack is a direct translation of the original summon animation, all appearing in the exact same order, using many of the same attacks and the background changing to correspond with each one.
Some of the Red Mage's aesthetic is taken after Genesis Rhapsodos. In particular, the first artifact weapon, the Murgleis, is modeled after his Rapier. Additionally, Fleche and Contre Sixte are based on Genesis' Flash attack where he could toss magic swords

    Spoilers for Endwalker:
In Elpis you got a lot of the Ancients talking about "returning to the planet" just like Cetra said in FFVII, continuing the circle of life. The whole idea of the Ancients in Elpis seem to align pretty much with the concept of Cetra the way we know of them.

      @kalandarkclaw8892 2 года назад

@@NymphsOrisons i think its a mix of a few things there's also Amaurot being very similar to DZ from X, the Ascians act in some ways similar to the Occuria from XII (act behind the scenes where most dont kno about them, are "undying", can fake themselves to look like real people and using that to manipulate events etc), the whole destruction of lives to cause a rejoining to return their people also reminds me of the Terrans from IX but I would imagine the XII reference might be the most likely given that game's influence on the development of XIV
but tbh regarding Ascians, they may not have been a deliberate allusion, after all the writers themselves admitted they were just generic bad guys without any plan for them

It's not Dark Knight's idle that's borrowed from Cloud, as that only applies to male characters, it's the victory emote, as it is one for one Cloud's victory animation, the ready for battle emote for Dark Knight also ends with them standing in Cloud's battle stance.
Fun fact regarding Ungarmax: It was actually a translation error, it was supposed to be called Anger Max in FFVII.
Also, regarding King Thordan, if his limit break hits 100, Ultimate End will actually play out an animation identical to the summon in Final Fantasy VII, and needless to say, wipes the party.
There is an obscure one that was missed, there is a company in Final Fantasy XIV called Highwind Skyways, this is most likely a reference to Cid Highwind's job as a pilot and engineer prior to him joining the party, and maybe to Cid's airship in Final Fantasy VII called the Highwind.

The lifestream is also mentioned by name verbatim several times in the story when people are referring to the aetherial sea, and there are also quests with the word "Lifestream" in it. When Y'shtola entered the Lifestream, her soul was eroded away, and almost completely erased, which is a reference to the audio novella Lifestream Black and White. Shadowbringers also seems to be pretty heavy in referencing DoC.
Ryne to me, seems to be alot like Shelke when it comes to being seen as the reincarnations of both Minfilia and Lucrecia, such as when Minfilia takes over Ryne’s body to talk to Thancred while they visited Nabaath in Amh Araeng, similarly Lucrecia taking over Shelke’s body in the Shinra Building chapter. Also, they both meet the women that the men in their lives cared for so deeply, with Minifilia becoming one with Ryne while Lucrecia gives Shelke the protomateria to return to Vincent.
The Warrior of Light as well goes through some lost of control moments much like Vincent did after the promateria was stolen from him, however, the Warrior’s situation stimulates mainly from absorbing too much light after defeating the Lightwardens, teetering on the verge of becoming a sin eater. Both are kept under control of themselves through Ryne being able to use her powers inherited from Minifilia to keep the light within the warrior at bay, while Shelke seems to use Lucrecia as a means of keeping Vincent calm, which only works for a time until the both of them, get their means of controlling the monsters within them at bay, Ardbert being the Warrior of Light’s promateria persay, becomes one with the Warrior, stabilizing the light within them while Shelke retrieves the Protomateria for Vincent within Omega, allowing him to control Chaos.
Vauthy reminds me abit of Sephiroth, having been made to become a sin eater at birth while Sephiroth was made to become the perfect Solider while still in his mother’s womb. Both had pretty crappy parents on that front, being made to become perfect beings through different means.
Also, the Warrior of Light seems to share some similarities between themselves and Vincent. both are fond of children, they’re willing to give their lives to protect the ones they love, they value life above all things and most of all, they feel guilty about being unable to save those that they cared for, Vincent being guilty over being unable to save Lucrecia from what she was doing while the Warrior is guilty over the death of Haurchefaunt, for saving them.

So cool, I love all these references from FFVII!!
This is just personal opinion but, for some reason Labyrinthos reminds me of Deepground, both are underground secret facilities, its a bit of a reach but it did remind me of that.
I wonder if there are other hidden references from the other FFVII games, like Crisis Core or Dirge of Cerberus, like weapon names or bosses too.
Cant wait for the FFVIII references!

@@turntapeover5749 noo i mean LB1 is literally not Braver.
Braver has a different animation and is a single swing attack, while LB1 in FFXIV swings 2 times

The scholar LB3 is called Angel Feathers, which I believe is also one of Aerith’s limit breaks!

The giant cobra enemies in FFVII, the Midgar Zolom is a mistranslation of Midgardsormr. While this is a reference to the Norse legend of the World Serpent, Midgardsormr also makes an appearance in FFXV as a giant cobra enemy, but also in FFXIV as Midgardsormr, the Father of Dragons. A massive serpent like dragon who is the father to Bahamut and the other six great wyrms of the world.

And just like in 7, Midgardsormr is stuck on a giant spike near a body of water.

Yeah, every xpac has a x.0 story that is the leveling experience ending with a final boss. For HW, it was Thordan and the knights. Then patches x.1, x.2, and x.3 roll around over the next year and finish up the story of the xpac with another Trial, in this case the final battle with Nidhogg, before the x.4 and x.5 patches set up for the next xpac.
