Absolutely, but of the Mamiya line of lenses, this is a budget option within the range. It’s all relative isn’t it. The cheapest Ferrari is budget when compared to the rest of their line-up but it’s still a ridiculously expensive car.
When I was shooting Mamiya TLR cameras, I used the 180mm for weddings, reportage, and portraits. When I replaced my worn out TLR cameras with RB67 SLR cameras, I replaced my 180mm TLR glass for the 180mm RB67 glass. Both are great lenses.
i use a carl zeiss jena sonnar 180mm 2.8 with an adapter on my mamiya...this lens does great, its heavy like a brick, tech sharp and wide open beautuful...greets BM
Btw that ring you mentioned is needed when using a pre KL lens on a PRO-SD body...according to Mamiya So in your case its not really essential And regarding a fast ish tele lens there is a Mamiya 150mm f3.5 KL lens
No... I don't send anyone anything. I just purchase. They are more expensive than the RB67 lenses. I haven't bought an adapter for it yet. I thought I was buying a 645 lens. I have these in 645 which I have adapters for: MAMIYA SEKOR C 45mm f2.8 N Lens for M645 1000S Pro TL From Japan (6-9-2023 $180) MAMIYA SEKOR C 80mm f2.8 Medium Format 645 (Medium Format x 0.62 = Full Frame) {$170: 3-2023} MAMIYA SEKOR C 150mm f 3.5 645 (Medium Format x 0.62 = Full Frame) {$100: 5-2023} MAMIYA SEKOR C 210mm f4 lens for M645 (8-9-2023 $24) Recently, I have been experimenting with Anamorphic 2X lenses and Diopters. They are OK, but I am not sure I will use Anamorphic. The RB67 I bought was this: Mamiya SEKOR C 180mm f 4.5 RB67 6x7 BIG! {$60: 11-2023}
The RB67 Extension tube 1 and Extension tube 2 are inexpensive and are a good way to focus closer than the lens alone will allow. Thanks for the lens review.
I just picked up my rb67 with a 90mm and a 180mm I wanted something a little tighter but I’m worried 180mm will be too tight. Have you tried the 127mm ? I was told it wasn’t that huge of a difference from the 90mm
The 90 is a 35 mm equivalent 45 mm. The127 63 mm. That's roughly the difference between your 50 mm and a 35 mm. Would you carry both? For walkabouts, I like a 90 if only one lens, but possibly a 180 And perhaps a 127. The 250 is a beast and would be rarely used, the 65 better for landscapes. The 90 is a great walk around lens, small light weight and f/3.5 if need the speed. But if I had the 90 I would buy the 180 which is a fantastic portrait lens, great oof/bokeh, plenty sharp. Then, if you felt it was too wide a spread, consider the 127. It is a 3.8.
@@mrca2004 I ended up getting the 180mm for $90 US. It was a good deal and I’m happy for the difference in focal lengths now that I have had time to use the 6x7 system.
Tripod if needed in terms of shooting at a slower shutter speed, if not just handheld! I actually haven't found a strap that I find comfortable with a camera this size yet!
It sounds like you are saying the Mamiya 108. So, if you are taking portraits with a 180 focal length you must be two rooms away. I own these MAMIYA SEKOR C 45mm F2.8 N MAMIYA SEKOR C 80mm f2.8 MAMIYA SEKOR C 150mm f3.5 The 150 is plenty far away. I would need a megaphone to talk to the subject with any greater focal length.
@jmoss99 a 180mm lens on a 6x7 is equivalent to 88mm on a full frame digital camera which is roughly what I use for digital portraiture (Sony G 90mm Macro)
I just received my 180mm today. If you are using film in that big boxy camera you need to look into the Sony A7R 2 or higher cameras. That is what I have and it is wonderful. No developing film. No printing, then scanning. No film. No cost per shot either. You can adapt those 645 lenses to it too, for very little.
Correction: this is not a "budget" lens. The RB67/RZ67 and their lenses were top of the line, pro equipment.
Nothing less.

Yeah there’s no doubt it’s a stunning lens!
The telephoto lens shots absolutely slap!
Thanks mate!

I bet that gives some great results!
Hi! Are you talking about the mamiya rb67 and if yes, what kind of adapter did you use for this lens?
Btw that ring you mentioned is needed when using a pre KL lens on a PRO-SD
body...according to Mamiya
So in your case its not really essential
And regarding a fast ish tele lens there is a Mamiya 150mm f3.5 KL lens
Yes. I bought mine for $60 USD in Japan 3 days ago.
Nice!!!!
so cheap! send me a 50mm please!

The RB67 I bought was this:
Mamiya SEKOR C 180mm f 4.5 RB67 6x7 BIG! {$60: 11-2023}
Very good presentation. Thank you.
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed! 👍🏼
The RB67 Extension tube 1 and Extension tube 2 are inexpensive and are a good way to focus closer than the lens alone will allow.
Thanks for the lens review.
Thanks John that’s a great idea!
Nice video homie!
Can i put that on the 645?
Not it’s a different mount unfortunately
I’m not sure if I want to sell my 150 mm soft focus lens and get 180 mm… yes I want more telephoto but don’t want to lose soft focus effect
Save up and have the best of both! 🙌🏼😂

Ah amazing! I think that to be honest you’re better off having more of a difference between focal lengths to give you more variety!

Absolutely perfect advice in my opinion 👏🏼👏🏼

@@AndrewMclean now I might pick up the 65mm for a good deal
Do you use it outside on a tripod or strap?
Tripod if needed in terms of shooting at a slower shutter speed, if not just handheld! I actually haven't found a strap that I find comfortable with a camera this size yet!

No it’s definitely 180mm!
Do you commonly use lenses of 180mm or more in close in portrait work? I guess to get the isolation. It works good for that.
@jmoss99 a 180mm lens on a 6x7 is equivalent to 88mm on a full frame digital camera which is roughly what I use for digital portraiture (Sony G 90mm Macro)
obviously u are shooting these lenses with a mickey mouse crop sensor. u are probably standing 2 blocks away.
@jmoss99 On the 645, this is the RB67
180 and the 250 are great just super heavy
I haven’t tried the 250 but I’m guessing it’s even heavier!
great vid
