    Hi Guys,
This review is slightly different, it's more of a "what's it like to live with the Apple Watch Series 5, rather than covering all the specs and details about the new Apple Watch.
I spent a week with an Apple Watch Series 5 in Aluminium Space Grey, and here is my review on it. I talk about choosing Apple Watch with Cellular vs non-cellular, battery life and sapphire glass.
Let me know what you guys think of the new Apple Watch.

Having a Rolex and an Apple Watch I have to say I wear the Apple Watch much more. The experience is so immersive and ultimately informative. At the end of the day why do we wear a watch ?If it’s as a piece of jewellery which also happens to tell the time - then Rolex etc every time .If it’s as piece functional device which monitors
your health and connects you to the world - then Apple Watch etc every time .

The Apple watches are great if you love having your phone’s features on your wrist. It’s very convenient not having to pull out your phone to read emails, check notifications or missed calls and of course, checking the time/date/weather etc etc. I don’t however, think it makes sense to upgrade every single year. These watches are so good and reliable, you don’t even have to get a new one when it comes out. I think upgrading every 3-4 or hell, maybe even 5 years is more reasonable.

Being a watch enthusiast myself, I’ve gone with the same setup as you . 11 pro max and the 44mm black aluminium wifi model. It’s a very different experience from wearing an Omega or Rolex. Infact it made me appreciate my mechanical watch collection even more. Why? Its after wearing this that you realise genuinely how well built the omegas and Rolex’s of the world are. Absolute units. On the other hand i am now beginning to wear my Apple Watch a lot more. It’s a great device that tracks my heart rate during workout, daily steps, notifies me about me my messages or mails and i dont need to reach for the phone. Gives me the time accurately, tells me the weather, and i have 2 further different time zones on it as well, which is very useful to me. It’s a good experience overall.
Battery life overall has been ok for me. I use it to sleep track as well now and wake up with around 20% after a 24 hour use. While I’m doing the morning routine, it charges up and I’m wearing it again. The 30 min to 1 hour its on the charger, is enough time to get ready and stuff.
Its a great device, and I wear it a fair bit, but its not on replacing my watch collection any time soon, even though i do enjoy it a fair bit. Give it a go, its an experience worth having atleast once.

I hate it tbh battery life is awful, exercise tracking is lackluster compared to competitors. I came back to Apple since the 5c just because Samsung got rid of the headphone jack.
My old galaxy watch won’t pair well with the iPhone so I figured I’d get an Apple Watch. The galaxy in my honest opinion blows it out of the water in every way. The scans better and has some feature the Apple Watch doesn’t. Apple Watch does the heart rate stuff better though.
I’ve run the Apple Watch on minimal power settings to try to optimize battery life, it still barely last the day. The galaxy watch keeps going on for 3-4 days

In a sea of haters, I’m going to say that I love my Apple Watch. I own a BB58, an Oyster Perpetual 39mm and a few others, but my 40mm Stainless Steel Gold Apple Watch gets by far the most wrist time. It’s not because I need the notifications (I turned off mostly everything other than calls and texts), it’s because it genuinely motivates me to stay healthy,. It reminds me to stand up, to walk 10,000 steps a day and generally be more active than I otherwise would be. When I’m walking wherever it may be, and I’m listening to a podcast (HODINKEE Radio most likely), my iphone stays in my pocket and I use my watch to choose what I listen to or change the volume, or pay for a sandwich. It just makes life easier. I may have drunk directly from the Apple Kool Aid, but I’d go as far to say that the Apple Watch has changed my life for the better.

I bought the series 5 cellular Apple Watch and just having the reminders to close my rings reminding me I need to get up more during the day truly motivates me to close all my rings at first it was hard but starting to get easier I’m walking the dog at night I’m getting out of my chair and walking during commercials for a minute just to close those rings. For the last few years I have observed the evolution of the Apple watch with amusement, thinking why would I ever want to buy one of these things. Now I am approaching my mid seventies, am retired, and have everything I need. Just about everything on the market now are things I might want but do not need. Having said that, I thought the same about the iPhone when it first came out, and now cannot imagine a life without one, so I definitely need that piece of tech. However, the most likely reason I might purchase one of these things is for the fun of it. I enjoyed your video. Still thinking about getting one.

Tried to buy it today. Disabled and the Apple store is 1.5 hrs away so called. They said to drive over, be there at 10:30 but no promises to wait on me or help me because someone could...get this...call in sick. He suggested I buy online but I wanted to see how the two sizes fit on my wrist. So he said to go to Best Buy. Expected to have a new watch, bands, AirPod pros, charging deck. Alas...I have nothing. Never have back surgery and go to an Apple store before you’re fully healed. Side note: If your current AirPods don’t charge , a replacement charger is $200 bucks. Hmm 🤔

Great review. I’m a tech head, and although I have a series 4, I was thinking of getting a series 5.
The battery issue...I charge mine every morning while in the shower. I also have a small dongle thing that charges up the watch, just in case it runs down due to excess use. It’s clipped to my rucksack. My watch is never off my wrist, apart from having a shower.
The stand up thing...it’s very useful to give me a shove to get up and walk around. I have depression, and it does help to motivate me when I don’t want to get out of bed etc.
The look...I love how it looks, and how I can change the face to match the straps and phone covers. I have about 16 covers, and 12 straps. I like how easy it is to change straps.
Even though I don’t have to get up in the morning for any reason, I still set an alarm on my watch to wake me at 8am every morning. And my phone and watch are set to go to sleep at midnight, which reminds me to put an audible book on my iPad, and that helps me to get to sleep.
I use my watch to pay for my shopping, which is really a great feature. No more rummaging for my purse. I use stocard for all the store cards.
I like how I can pause my music, on my watch. And I like how I can put my hand over my watch to ignore a phone call.
The light has been very useful, as it’s help me get to the bathroom without turning on lights, and tripping over the cat! 😄
I always keep a cover on my watch, as I do with iPad Pro and iPhone. Why would you not protect the screens and backs? If for no other reason than to get more money for it, when you sell it.
We have 7 Alexa spots, an Alexa echo, 16 smart plugs, and 6 smart lights, in the house. My fella has an iPad, Apple Watch and 2 iPhones...1 is his work one. Apart from his work one, I’ve bought all his gadgets, and all the gadgets in the house. Oh, and I’ve got an Alexa spot in my car, and a car cam! This year, we are going to get cameras for outside, and maybe update the doorbell camera and screen.
One bit of advice...get contents insurance. When we leave the house, we have hundreds of £££ of gadgets on us. I had my bag snatched, several years ago, and I got a replacement updated iPhone. I also accidentally dropped a table on my iPad, a few years ago. It was an old one, but I was given an iPad Air as a replacement.

The watch did a great job telling me when I was in a fib. I thought the heart rate monitor was wrong but in fact was very accurate.

I started my love for watches with a garmin Fenix 3. I used to train ten times a week as a rower and so it was more practical to just wear the same watch all the time and I chose the Fenix specifically beacause it looked like a "real" watch. From then I started to find out more about mecanical watches, and eventually grew to hate the constant barrage of notifications I got on my wrist and simply turned off all it's connectivity funcions. Nowadays I wear a mecanical watch and use my garmin just for working out. It was a great way to get into watch collecting but I don't thing i'll ever want to have that much information on my wrist all the time. Just the time and date is fine for me!

Man, the candor in this video is much appreciated!
I love my technology- when it works for me- but when I feel it gets in the way of my lively hood is when I step back. Had an Apple Watch for about six months before selling it, just cause I didn’t want to be reachable and accessible by people or companies/social medial 24hrs a day. A large part of my job is being social and meeting with people and at the end of the day, I like being able to draw boundaries by leaving my phone in the other room and saying “sorry, I didn’t see that message last night.” I’ve never been faulted for it, and my mechanical watches just don’t vie for my attention like a smart watch does. All that to say, to each their own!

Apple watches still work after 7 years you just replace the battery not a big deal to me. If I wanted to keep it for more than 7 I can just find someone to work on it. I like how my Apple Watch just works with me day to day. Judging based on how many sold I consider that a big win! out with the old in with the new.

I've never really saw the use for an apple watch until the series 5. The ECG capabilities, fitness tracking, ease of use, notifications, etc.. it really offers a lot especially for my field of work I'm a longshoreman and do a little armed security on the side so pulling out my phone every time I get a notification is distracting and annoying. Now when I get a notification of any sort I can take a quick glance at my wrist to see if it's important, family, weather, etc is really useful and saves a lot of time

  • @michaeldustinhammer

Great video! I owned the Apple Watch Series 4 for a year and 3 months, and recently sold it for many reasons.
    1. The Apple Watch doesn’t look good on the wrist. A black square can’t compare to a traditional watch.
    2. The glass on the Apple Watch scratches SUPER easily. The glass was scratched up so bad, that for the price, the quality isn’t justified. In Canada , I paid $560 for the aluminum GPS model
    3. Having to charge it everyday can get frustrating, and always having to remember to bring the charger for it when you are away from home for more than a day.
    4. I own several g-shock watches, and I must say they look way better on my wrist than the Apple Watch. The g-shocks have 2years + battery life, and really get to express yourself (as well as any other mechanical watch) much more than wearing an Apple Watch.
    5. The Apple Watch is consumer electronics, so eventually the battery will lose its max charge (just like smartphones), and will become obsolete tech. Not the mention the damage Apple watches endure. G-shocks are literally indestructible, and have a more timeless design to them. So many options.
    6. You shouldn’t have to buy and Watch, and get a screen protector for it, and a case to protect it. What’s the point? Just to get a notification on your wrist?
    7. The fitness tracking, and heart rate monitor is cool tech, however, the novelty wore off and I stop even looking at my results, or closing my rings. And also, no one else cares! I workout 5-6 days a week, and just wearing a g-shock is perfect for that. I don’t need to know what my heart rate is, and anyone who buys this watch will feel the same way over time as I have.
Those are my gripes. I want to point out that I’m a huge Apple fanboy, and was reluctant to sell this watch. But owning it for over a year was enough time for me to decide a traditional watch is far superior.

Honestly, I really rarely wear my Rolex Daytona anymore. I bought the stainless steel Hermes edition (again, I had the original as well) because I have so many stainless steel brackets/band/adapters (alligator x2, stingray, apple ss bracelet) and I tend to upgrade every couple of version upgrades. The Hermes edition really really really holds it value well if you don't wear the band (always get the deployment clasp single tour as they are the highest % resale). Just being able to see who is calling and texting me without pulling out my phone during a meeting is worth the money to me

Having a Rolex and an Apple Watch I have to say I wear the Apple Watch much more. The experience is so immersive and ultimately informative. At the end of the day why do we wear a watch ?If it’s as a piece of jewellery which also happens to tell the time - then Rolex etc every time .If it’s as a functional device which monitors your health and connects you to the world and offers much else- then Apple Watch etc every time .

I'm in the Samsung side of it (nothing wrong with Apple though), I tried the Samsung watch, but I could not live with the constant notification buzzing on the wrist, it was too stressful.
Also, I felt stupid having my Black Bay on one wrist and the smartwatch on the other. So I ended up giving my Samsung watch to a friend.
My wife, on the other hand, is neck-deep in the Apple ecosystem, she doesn't wear a "real" watch, and she is a teacher witch makes her Apple watch perfect for her.
As for the design of the Apple watch. I love it, and therefore I would love to own the H Moser "SWISS ALP WATCH SMALL SECONDS" watch at some point. It's a beauty.

thanks for this!! I guess this pushed me in the right direction. I'm a sucker for gadgets and a long-time early Apple adopter. The Apple Watch however never could charm me, as I am a watch enthousiast. Oldfashioned mechanical watches. Last weekend, when I was VERY close to finally give in, and checking what would be the best size watch for me, I noticed what a fantastically made watch it is, but also a flimsy plastic thing. I began to doubt again. Also with the 18 hours battery life - ridiculous. I took the Apple watch off, and my steel mechanical diver back on. When you mentioned that an Apple watch actually only has a very limited lifespan, I saw the light. This is not for me. At least not against that kind of money, and not for a lifespan of a few years only. I will stick to my collection of mechanical watches, and with my iPhone (since the first model ever came out) in my pocket - all info I need with me. Thanks !!

True; that’s why I said 3 days and not a week like my old Nokia phone or years like my old G-Shock.

I leave the face on health monitor with heartrate and decibles. I own a machine shop, so knowing the abient noise db is good. Now I can see emails, phone calls, text messages and investment news alerts at a quick glance instead of pulling out my larger iPhone XS max from my pocket every ten minutes. Very handy. There are hundreds out there with much cheaper price tags. If you want fancy functions, cool connection to phones, good looking, and status, go for Apple watch. I would never, ever have gotten the watch (5) had it not come with the cellular option. I like to go on long walks, bike rides and hikes in my local urban forest and when I do I am usually not wearing much in the way of pockets for my big heavy iphone Xs Max so I love that I can do that now without giving up the safety and convenience of being able to make or take a call. I also suffer from never sleeping well and the watch is helping me learn about my sleep habits and cycles via sleep apps and the monitoring of my heart rate, movements in my sleep etc. I love how easily I can have Siri text someone for me. And yes the alarm of course. What I dislike the most is the inability to listen to an audiobook directly from my watch's speaker (or music) as in bed this helps me fall asleep and I don't need it loud; the built in speaker would be good enough.

Another great video Adrian - I'm a massive mechanical watch enthusiast and proud of my "small" collection, indeed, I have watches that even after 15 years I put on and just admire in awe at the 'genius' that went into making that movement tick. As well, of course, the beauty that is indeed in the eye of the beholder. However, I wear an apple watch every single day - to me its a tool for work, like my laptop or my phone, its quite brilliant and would not be without it.
Double wristing? Weird. Unless of course, you want people around you to know that indeed you can afford a 'proper' watch - it's an ego thing I guess.
The health alerts? My mother is 86, she has an apple watch and if she were to fall over or not move for 6 hours both my sister and I get an alert - Quite Brilliant.
There's plenty of time and room for both. And when you go out in the evening, a meeting or special occasion putting on your 'proper' watch, whatever it may be, makes it feel even more special. Thanks again for another good vid.

You should buy the stainless steel model. Then you can review it again. It’s totally different.

Good video mate. Still wouldn’t have one, they just don’t appeal to me. Also not a fan of California dials in general!

A great one Adrian. I am going to go for a Apple Watch series 3. especially with SIM card. I do wear mechanical watches but there are some moments i don’t: sports. I just don’t like to bring my cellphone and strap it on my wrist when I am jogging or hitting the gym. I want to listen to music, I like to be able answering calls or making if needed but not bringing my iPhone. As well i like to check my heart rate and distances I run. So to me this would be the best way to go.
    Happy weekend, salut ☕️

All valid comments! Been wearing one for a week (44 mm stainless steel w Milanese strap) and I’m torn. My Explorer 39 mm 214270 (white gold 3, 6 & 9 😍) is more stylish, but it won’t call in emergency services if I get clubbed over the head or fall down the stairs. No flashlight, or voice recorder, let alone an ECG. The struggle is real! 😂

Wore one for two years and eventually got sick of being interrupted all the time, especially when having lunch or dinner with friends (yes I know I can turn it on Do Not Disturb). I bought a Speedmaster and haven't looked back.

No regrets because it saves me time for a quick glance and work items such as calendar and other conveniences otherwise I would have nothing on my wrist, including an old school watch. I also decided to get the cellular version because I am already spending a ton of money for this mini arm computer so I might as well take advantage of all features to be there when I need them. I noticed because it is available I use it so why worry about ALWAYS having my cell with me. For example, what a pain on the butt to drag your cell around on a jog when you can simply wear it on your arm while it checks your pace, heartrate etc. Oh and if I really get concerned, I can do an EKG to determine whether all that work was even worth it, including using the alarm to get out of bed in the first place.

„Are you going out without your Watch?“
I‘M BUYING IT BECAUSE I WANT TO GO OUT WITHOUT MY PHONE!!!!!

Well, the choice is easy for me, the carriers where I live do not support duplicated eSIM, so Apple does not even sell the cellular versions here:) I would really like to go out without my phone sometimes.

I see it this way if you want you’ll get it. Everything has its pros and cons. It’s all about if it’ll suit your needs and if you can afford it. I got one and I love it. Just haven’t figured everything out but it suits my needs

Wonder if these spike in value once Apple discontinues them like Rolex
