- There is a theory which says that Tyrion was a Targaryen. Tywin was Hand of King of Aerys II Targaryen, otherwise known as The Mad King. There are a couple of confirmed points regarding Aerys’ relationship with Tywin’s wife, Joanna. Barristan Selmy tells Daenerys that the King was said to be infatuated with her. Tywin says Tyrion isn't his son, multiple times.
The fact that Tyrion was able to talk down both dragons, Rhaegal and Viserion, from turning him into a pile of ash, could be the very proof that we've been looking for that this Lannister actually has Targaryen blood running through his veins. The way he spoke to the dragons was so calming, almost like a lullaby or as if he were telling them a bedtime story. He told the dragons that he asked for one of them as a pet on the day of his name day and cried himself to sleep when he was told that they no longer existed.

"I'm here to help.. Don't eat the help"
That line always makes me laugh. 😂😂😂 Poor guy sounds so terrified.
Such a simple line but it sounded so truthful and funny at the same time🤣
Tyrions version of 'don't shoot the messenger'
😂😂
I say that at work all the time
The line "It could be little...like me" hurts. He was a child that just wanted a friend.
And he had a brother. ❤ 🦁
I know. The first time I watched this scene I found myself crying. Peter is an AMAZING actor. And ... could those animators have made those dragons any more terrifying?? Bloody hell. When Tyrion releases the 1st dragon and suddenly realises that dragon #2 is right there smiling urm "prettily" at him ...WHOA!!!!
a friend who breathed napalm and brought death from above.
@@Fektthis
Tyrion would not have used him for that.
Ahhh..
I love how as soon as he removed the collar from the one, the other was right there like it was saying "ok help, mine next".
The look of recognition when realizing the dragons did, in fact, understand him was epic.
His acting is on another level. He wasn't telling the story to calm the dragons , he was telling the story to calm himself . Lowering his own stress and anxiety so the dragons would not see him as a threat bc they could sense that in him.
Very true, I couldn't agree more. The only thing he had as a weapon was a torch. But than again maybe they could sense he was afraid of them. And they just took pity on him. Or maybe they could smell they're mother on him. But I think it's because they could sence he wasn't afraid of them. And after he freed them from they're chains, is when they realized he was a friend and not a threat.
Sht Don't work for Mortgage or loan.
Sounds great also when he mad the joke the dragon laughed that always gets me.
I mean, sure? Then again I don't think they perceived him as a threat considering his stature and only weapon being a stick that's on fire.
@@Artrysa damn, and here i was thinking you were gonna say "because theyre not real"..
It’s cool how Tyrion is the first guy to talk to the dragons as intellectual beings. Everyone treats them as items or beast of burdens, including Targaryen’s.
Except the mother of dragons lol
@@sphereitis2433 she does kinda consider them only as warfare tools
When everything is bigger than you, you learn a soothing tone, and when Tyrion was a boy, some of the castle cats were bigger than him.
@@revan22 No she doesn’t. She considered them her children and was very stressed and hurt when she lost any.
@@karma4859 yes, but she did use them as her shield and protectors. Not that I blame her, they were basically weapons of mass destruction. During the Battle of Winterfell, when she fell off of Drogon when he was attacked by wights, that was the first time she felt vulnerable.
He must've felt his inner child singing with joy when he said "but here you are. " as he gently touched the dragon's scales
Peter Dinklage is an incredible actor. He carried the show in so many ways.
His English accent is so good that it's hard to believe he's really American.
Same with the Governor from Walking Dead only the other way round
I agree. The way he delivered his lines was pure brilliance.

Meanwhile, Varys is looking at him thinking, “Gods, how do you WALK with balls that big?!?”
Varys silently responding "OK, no problem, I'll do it"
He says "in the face"
The fact is that Tyrion is not speaking high Valyrian and the dragons still understand him, show us how intelligent the dragons are.
Their intelligence is not like human intelligence. They took his meaning.

I love this scene, I love the Dragons, I love Tyrion's story. I just never bought the idea that the pin that held the collars onto the dragons necks were so easy to pull out.
The pin isnt holding the dragons, the collars. The pins simply hold the collars shut, although i do think there should have been something holding the pin in.
@@SirFloofy001 Given the size of the pins, they would not come out easily. I'd expect a sledge hammer and a driving pin to get them out. But... the magic of television making everything easier for the screen.
Sometimes it serves the story better to not service every aspect of reality that would break the flow of the telling.
@@lotmyle5465 It's called Suspension of Disbelief. I'm just saying over the course of the series this was the only scene where I thought they could have done a better job. If Tyrion had just had to twist the pin before pulling it wouldn't have looked like it could fall out on its own.

If you are wondering about a dragon's intelligence, you might note that Drogon recognized and destroyed what really caused Daenerys' death, the Iron Throne.
they may look like the classic Wyverns, but their intelligence is absolutely at the standard of Full Dragon
Nah he wanted to end a never ending war between dragons and the humans
"If you are wondering about a dragon's intelligence, you might note that Drogon recognized and destroyed what really caused Daenerys' death, the Iron Throne."
That scene makes me wonder more about the writers' intelligence.
that's actually a really good point. i never thought of it like that. i thought the reason why he did it was because he was in pain and that the throne was just there
Peter Dinklage is an amazing actor, full stop.
Who's full stop now?
I love how they change the moment they realise he’s there to help.
excellent catch here.
Tyrion was such a great character in the books; his presence amplifies just how innocence and righteousness are so underestimated, but yet so vulnerable to emotions. All of the characters were enthralling...
I am glad that Tyrion did NOT look like in the books, after the Kings Landing battle, that nearly killed him. He would have had to wear a prosthetic nose otherwise.
Granted, Tyrion does become significantly more bitter and outright cruel in the later books
Just when Drogon came up to Jon Snow and smelt him first before letting Jon touch him. It’s shows they can smell Targaryen blood. When I see the other two dragons smelling Tyrion first before accepting him and then Tyrion talks about dreaming about dragons as a child. Does make you wonder. I hope the Snow series shows a cameo of Tyrion learning about his true heritage that would be nice for us Tyrion fans rooting for the underdog.
There is NO OTHER EXPLANATION. Viserion (I'm thinking the first dragon that Tyrion released is Viserion) looked ready and willing to burn a MF and make him a snack until it spotted (or caught scent of) Tyrion, then he stopped dead and then here comes Rhaegal. That was NOT for no reason. And fuck D&D and HBO for ruining Tyrion's arc.
That could explain the enormous hate of Tywin to Tyrion
His last words was 'You are not a son of mine'
I dont think a guy like Tywin said those words for any reason, he perhaps was saying the truth
The times in the books times coincide with Tyrion's mother being in Kings Landing close to the mad king the year before Tyrion born
Apparently Tyrion is a targaryen and that explain the dreams and how the dragons let him close and , the him being a dwarf was due to his parents since Targaryens would wed relatives of the same blood
It will break my heart if Peter Dinklage doesn’t sign on for the project!
or they smelled their mother on him😏
“I’m here to help… DON’T Eat the help” love Peters emphasis on the Dont
I'm imagining a completely different final two seasons with Tyrion being revealed as a bastard son of the Mad King and eventual ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.
Yer that would have been cool ,Tyrion was best charater by far ,dominating all scenes he was in ,,👌🪄
And the Lannisters kept their possible enemy close and constantly gaslit to keep him in line.
This moment now reflects on a moment at the end of episode 10 of HOTD. Where Daemon sings to a huge dragon. Appealing to its good nature like Tyrion does here.
Love this scene. How he gently touches him before unlatching his chains. You could feel the awe and respect from Tyrion towards these magical miracles ❤
Considering the dragons are intelligent, I think they liked Tyrion/felt bad for him hearing his story about so badly to wanting to see a dragon as a child.
haha good insight on the smart dragons
It was a shame they had to be shackled and locked away while Drogon was allowed to roam freely. Very good of Tyrion to free them.
He wasn’t “allowed,” he simply couldn’t be caught. Drogon was the reason they had to be chained, when he went from killing sheep to a shepard’s child
They couldn’t chain drogon.
I think this is the most beautiful scene in the entire show. Two great, majestic creatures of untold mystery and myth, two INTELLIGENT creatures readily listening to and feeling sympathy for a man brave enough to speak to them as equals, with the reverence these incredible creatures truly deserve and returning the same respect he approached them with.
And then they kill off these two brilliant boys so unceremoniously, in manners that are frankly almost an affront to them as characters. The only speck of the intelligence of dragons we see after this is Drogon's anger and grief over the conflict melting the throne and leaving John unscathed- and I'm gonna be honest, maybe this would have hit a little harder if they'd done more respect to the dragons than "they are blissfully unaware of their one weakness and totally unable to dodge projectiles despite numerous insane feats of agility". Like, I'm sorry- if the archers didn't take out BABY Drogon during his first Dracarys, Scorpions ain't shit.
This scene convinced me he was actually of Targarian decent, though he didn't realize it. Tyrion was such a brave man. He should have sat on the throne at the end.
In some small way he is..as Hand of the King he rules when Bran the Broken is otherwise distracted by his 3 Eyed Ravin duties.
Tyrion being revealed a secret Targaryen would have been awesome. In contrast, Bran the Broken perfectly exemplifies how bad seasons 7 and 8 were. Bran should have died, along with many of the characters, during the fights with the Army of the Dead. Winter is coming for GRRM. He had the chance to hire ghost writers to finish his story under his supervision and make Megamillions doing so. GRRM failed us. Dave and Dan betrayed all of the loyal fans. #Shame #Shame #Shame
this is only in the show. In the books Quentyn Martell released the dragons after getting burnt to a crisp and he was half targaryen
I just love the voice of Peter Dinklage. He should narrate books / novels...
I'd listen to the guy reading me the phone book...
"I'm here to help, don't eat the help" had me dead
The way Viserion snuck up behind Tyrion and outstretched his neck to have the collar removed, he was saying “me next please”. Well I think it was Viserion, I couldn’t really tell which was which in this scene.
Varys expression at the end 😅”next time I have an idea like that , punch me in the face”
That is an interesting spin on the whole story with Tywin telling Tyrion that he's not his son after Tyrion just put an arrow into him.
Tyrion had to be confused, at least, by all the times that Tywin said the opposite.
The man died either trying to console himself with a lie, or finally decided to be honest with his last breath. What a dichotomy.
And the real issue is that he had no idea if Tyrion was actually his son or not.
Seems the entire kingdom was full of bastards who thought they were someones' son when they weren't.
What would Joffery have done if he had known that he was Jamies' son.
There is actually a theory that Tyrion was the only one that was legitimately his, Jamie and Cersei were from a Valerian father/father's, hence their attraction for each other (I believe that was a hint to it). It's a sort of sick irony that the only true son he had was a sickly twisted dwarf, that killed his own mother on the way out huh?
@@crazylarryjr ...that whole bloodline is confused, from Tywin as Hand to Cersei as Queen. Certainly would imply that Cersei married the king and had his child while Tywin was alive. He sure seemed happy to sit on the Iron Throne in judgement of his own son, falsely accused of poisoning his own nephew yet suspected to the point of calling for a trial by combat. Well, you flaunt the judgment of the gods, you do so at your own peril.
@@crazylarryjr That is exactly why Tywin hates Tyrion so much. By all accounts, he SHOULD be the perfect heir. He's just as smart, cunning, and ambitious as his father. However, Tyrion has utterly failed in Tywin's eyes to actually use these gifts for the good of the family. He's a dwarf, so he will never be a good soldier. He's a whoremonger, so he will not be noble or respected. He's an alcoholic, so he reminds Tywin of the total joke Tywin's father Tytos was amongst his subordinates.
Joffrey knew he was Jamies son... He even mentions it in a fit of anger at one point
@@scotthartman8993 hey at least he knows that he's 100% royal blood
I love that Viserion just calmly offered his neck and waited. He was always the most gentle of the three.
In my view, Tyrion Lannister was the most courageous of all the characters due to this act alone!
"Don't eat the help." 😂😂😂😂 Oh Tyrion 😂😂😂
So funny 😂
I always loved this scene. It’s so suspenseful and sad at the same time. That it could be little like me line hurts. I loved seeing Tirion talking to them like equals. They knew he wasn’t a threat. Shame these two were treated so badly in the end particularly Ragal.
"Who's stupid idea was this?"

Superbly suspenseful scene!!! One of the very best scenes of the entire series, so nerve-wracking and at the same time so much emotion poured out in three minutes that we ALL wind up wiping the sweat off our brows collectively at the end of it. 😅
This is my dad if both me and my mum were on our periods. 'I come with chocolate, ice cream, chocolate ice cream, sanitary supplies and pain killers. I come to help, don't eat the help!'
The dragons probably figured he wasn’t even enough for a snack.

Still one of my favorite characters through the entire series.
This was the moment where (briefly) I had hoped that Tyrion was not warped by his family because he was not a Lannister, and that he would become a dragon rider. Buuuuttt, we all know how it all turned out and just like Tyrion I think a little part of me cried itself to sleep that night.
I always laugh at the line,"Don't eat the help"
Kind of seemed like he laughed slightly at his own line as well, though that could’ve been nervous laughter.
0:23 Dragon: Who are you?
0:36 Dragon: Why are you here?
It actually sounds like they're talking.
His sweet "it could be little, like me," is such a punch in the gut, each time I watch this scene. I'm endlessly happy his character wasn't butchered by the writers of the final season and he made it out alive.

He looked pretty sober to me. Or at least not to the point of drunk yet cause he was drinking right before this. At his and Sansa's wedding, THAT was drunk.
"Next time i had an idea like that punch me in the face" lol
Certainly not the taller but one of the bravest characters of that show for me and definitely one of the most hilarious and sarcastic!!!! 😉
Tyrion was the third Targaryen. Just like later when Drogon makes noise at Jon Snow when they meet, but quickly accepts him. Can smell the Targaryen.
The icing on the cake for this scene would have been the dragons nudging him towards the exit and turning to to leave
My issue with this scene was that when Dany locked them up, they were the size of a small donkey, if that. Here they have tripled in size, but the collars are now huge too. Who was replacing the collars? They were not happy being locked up, so was Dany going in and switching the collars? Why did it seem as if she had not visited them, when she finally went down in a later season, and they were highly aggressive towards her? So aggressive that Dany ran away in fear.
Dragons eat almost constantly; starve them a day of two so they won't refuse the meal, then feed them a drugged pig or something.
As they sleep off the food-coma, install new collars.
BTW, that much steel would weigh in excess of 800 pounds, the pin alone a solid 15!
Pulling the pin oh-so-smoothly would not have been possible: he would have to drive the pin, like punching out a rivet!
The Blacksmith who forged these shackles would have made certain that no casual tug of a slender pin could free Real Live Dragons.
Then again, it was one of the most moving scenes in the entire series.
Dany sucked putting her beloved children (yeah right) in chains
This one's in the top five scenes from the show
Shocking how many of the top five have Peter Dinklage in them
Literally the best character and the best actor ❤
One thing for sure Tyrion was brave for his size. As brave as Jamie but he never got any acknowledgement for that. This is a very brave thing to do. I think only Tyrion touched a dragon like that. Jon was a Targaryn.
In the books, Quentyn Martell releases them and tries to tame them using a whip. He gets burnt heavily and dies three days after. A pretty cool scene which they should have put in the show 😑
Tyrion could actually be a Targarien himself. Someone told me there was a plot story about Mad king raping Tywin Lannister's wife and there were born a bastard but no one heard of it because of the Baratheon revolt results but it could be not true anyway we will see it further in the books
That was the first time Twyn Lannister wife was pregnant, so in that case Cersei and Jamie would be Targaryen, Tyrion is Lannister in every sense.
Regardless, I believe tyrion to be a lannister full heartedly, although it may seem unlikely, his father was the same whoring (maybe nor drunkard) boy in the end, as was his son Tyrion Lannister
@I am Fighterman I agree, it’s more than likely that because the Lannister kids were already inbred that they desired to be yet more inbred like the Targaryens. The genetics 🧬 of inbreeding ASOIAF style
Song makes the dragons compliant. They are like snakes so a sincere voice works
After watching House of Dragons, I realize how small these dragons were. lol
They were young. Is it said anywhere in HOD how old the dragons in it are? If they're reptiles, reptiles continue to grow as they get older, although their rates of growth become slower as they age. The big dragons could be the oldest (and could be VERY old).
@davegrenier1160 Vhagar is somewhere around 180 years old. GRRM really needs to add the 5 year gap. Danys dragons are just not gonna be big enough for the Long Night in only a couple years
His acting in everything he's ever done is sublime. To think he's acting in that scene to someone in a green suit probably waving a stick pretending to be a dragon
If you paid attention to the books, it was obvious that Tyrion was the only true Lannister of the three siblings. The twins were half Targaryen.
How?
Why do you think so?
Targaryens ran to twins. Targaryens ran to incest.
Joffrey was mad In much the same way as the Mad King, as well as stupid.
Tyrion was much smarter than the twins, let alone his nephews and niece.
There were indications that Tywin’s liege lord had opportunities as well as the inclination. He was also John Snow’s sire.
Yes ! That’s why Tywin despised him so much because he saw so much of himself in Tyrion : a half-man.
There wasn't any evidence of that in the books.
I feel like Tyrion was one of the characters that stayed consistently good throughout all the seasons, not perfect, but definitely not too chopped up
One of the smallest people in all the realm but was one of the bravest.
Kind of a sweet story including Tywin
Tyrion the "brave"? There is no English word to describe his deeds. Beyond "brave", beyond "courageous", beyond "heroic".
Dont eat the help 🤣🤣🤣
FAMOUS LAST LINES: “I’m here to help. Don’t eat your help!”
Before he went there he said some words " dragons didn't hurt you right ? Becoz they know who are friends of theirs " with grey worm and missandei
This shows how tyrion strongly believes his words
Not to criticize roles that PD has had and will have but this was his role of a lifetime.
I think they couldn’t understand what he was saying it was more like they could understand his intentions
One wrong move then you'll become toasted elf...😂😂😂
I'm going to translate the dragon for y'all.
Don't forget that dragons if you could understand them talk like cockneys from the 50's.
"I'm friends with your mother"
"Bollox mate."
"I'm here to help"
"How can you help me?!"
Then when the realisation comes, the other dragon says....
"Now me. Go on chop chop"
Brilliant!
2:15 the dragons were like "aight, imma head out"
If only Tyrion had a pudgy martell handy, make this whole thing way easier.
Probably one of the most dangerous places to face a “tamed” dragon in GoT except a battlefield. The dragons expect a captor who locked them up coming in and one wrong step for Tyrion and your only a very small morsel in their often very long life’s.
Magnificent acting skills!
He is a blessing to the craft
This was one of his best scenes
I think this scene really eludes to the nature of all intelligent beings and yearning to be free. Captivity destroys a free spirit! Imprisonment is hell! Let freedom ring!🙏🏼

@@alexgamer1556 Wrong. This scene mirrors the part in the books where Quentyn Martell lets out the dragons and gets burned alive.
