Thanks Angel! Unfortunately, I wouldn't hold your breath on the 4K 120. When I was testing out the Ninja V+, I discovered that the Canon R5 cannot export out the 4K 120 through the HDMI because of hardware limitations. Even the V+ maxes out at 5K 60fps. Thanks so much for the comment and I hope you have a great day!
It looks like the 5k cropped mode is the same thing as the R5 C's super35 cropped mode which is nice if you have those small s35 lenses, correct if I'm wrong.
Hi Dear Director, How’s the workflow with 5K raw? Seems like a memory hog. I’m happy using 5.1K DCI and 4.8K UHD crop mode and metabones speedbooster 0.71x (reduces the crop from 1.6 to 1.136 (=1.6 x 0.71) and I get a stop of light with my EF lenses. I use this for long form recording or in low light and the drop in variable nd filter. Am waiting for the Tilta fan and possibly add the passive heat sink from Kolari Vision and that should be plenty good to add 1-2hrs recording + fast recovery times. Only thing missing is the 30min recording limit Canon has not removed. I have the Ninja 5 so I’ll update to 10.68. Thanks for helpful tips! 🙏
Raw is definitely a memory hog, and really only something that I use in very certain circumstances. The workflow (at least in Premiere) is pretty straight forward and easy. I'm really interested in hearing about your experiences with the Metabones Speedbooster 0.71x. I have a metabones on my GH5 and I love it, but I've never tried one on a Canon. Does your autofocus still work at the same level, or do you notice a drop in performance? Thanks so much for the comment and have a great day!
@@DeafDirector, Edited: The metabones speedbooster works well like the the one for the GH5 which I also have. It didn’t work so well early on 1.5yrs ago on EOSR but since March 2021 v1.4 to 1.6, it added EOS R5/6, C70, and Red Komodo. So now with the lenses that I have and works really well are 16-35/4, 16-35/2.8 iii, 24-70/2.8 ii, 70-20/2.8 iii, 35/1.4 ii, 85/1.4, 100/2.8. You get that extra stop of light which works great iowlight and you get no overheating in crop 5.1K DCI or 4.8K UHD. If you have the drop in variable nd filter, that’s also great for bright day shooting and no hassle to remove or add filters. Kolari Vision and Breakthrough Photography have many different drop in filters to choose from. For your line of work and if you already have invested into EF lenses, these are no brainer options. I’ll upgrade to RF lenses in 2-3yrs when there are more options at aftermarket prices as others will be looking to get the latest and greatest at a premium
I noticed that when I set my camera up for the 5k recording and then turn my camera off the settings arentthere when I turn the camera back on. When I try to save the settings to C3 since that is what I use the most it says it can't save them because of the Output RAW setting. Do I need to keep setting up my camera every time I want to record with these settings or is there a way to save the settings?
i love your channel, very informative. i have a question, if i am in 4k120fps mode, will i still be able to view the image on the monitor but record on the camera, or will the camera go blank? thank you
Thx for your informative video. I tried it out (5k RAW on the Ninja V and the Canon R5) and I get so much noise in my video (with 800 ISO and 3200 ISO as well). Is there a trick to reduce noise?
I have recorded 5K Raw files (Canon R5) on the Ninja V, but Davinci doesn't recognize them, they appear as audio files. Do you know the solution? Thanks.
Hey Sancho, unfortunately this is an issue between Apple and BlackMagic. Apple does not allow ProRes to be accessed in DaVinci. I hope this is resolved in the future, but as of right now, we can only wait. Thanks for the comment and have a great day!
I excitedly loaded the firmware on my Ninja V the other day, set it up, wired up, and shit some test video. Unfirtunately the excitement died the moment I tried to pull the footage into Davinci Resolve Studio, which doesn't support ProRes RAW. (Never going back to Adobe, having just escaped their gravity weeks ago.) Oh well. =( Maybe Canon will smarten up and allow 5k, or hell even 4k, raw internal. Seems like there's no good reason since the camera can clearly handle internal raw at 4x the resolution in 8k. Or maybe Davinci and Apple will learn to play nice. One can dream!
Total bummer! I use Premiere as my editor, but I can totally see why you would want to use Resolve to play with that footage. Maybe in the future? Have a great day!
Hey, have you had any trouble with recording stopping while recording 8K on the Ninja V Plus? I have a 4TB Samsung 870 SSD on it. It can't be the write speeds, could it?
Hey Maurice, I was able to get 3 hours of continuous 8K RAW recording on the V+ with no problem. I'm not sure what it could be, but I would check on your HDMI cable, that might solve the problem. Good luck!
@@rameshjaigulabrai6707 Make sure there is a card in the camera, crop mode is enabled and HDMI RAW out is enabled then select Movie rec quality/Movie rec. size - it shows 5088x3680 RAW and 4096x2160 IPB. It works fine.
@ 6:24 - incorrect. you cannot adjust the WB or ISO on the ProRes RAW footage from the R5 in Final Cut. Just FYI. I ran some tests yesterday and was bummed to find that out. You CAN with ProRes RAW footage from a SH1 (and I think Sony cameras) however. So it appears to be a canon limitation. Hopefully they update that. Clearly it’s just a software adjustment.
Hey Steve, thanks for the update. According to the official release notes from Atomos, they state that the 10.68 update ProRes Raw will have this functionality in FInal Cut. I don't use Final Cut so I couldn't personally test it. My bet would be that if it is not there, it is coming very soon to the newest update of Final Cut. Thanks for the comment and have a great day!
Steve Walter he is correct! 5.1K Prores RAW from the R5 & Ninja v - info inspector drop down menu "Settings" adjustment parameters for ISO, exposure offset and color temperature. I don't have the Ninja v+ so I haven't tried with 8K prores RAW files.
The 5K Cropped RAW actually is created by the Canon R5 and output through the HDMI. The V+ can record the Cropped 5K RAW signal as well as the uncropped 8K RAW
@@DeafDirector Ahh, so when you want to record 5k raw on either recorders, it will always be cropped. That kind of sucks for a fullframe camera. I was excited about the possibility of being able to shoot 5K raw, but not if it is cropped. And 8k raw is a nightmare for a one man band. Oh well, thanks for the info!!
