My God the charisma of all five of them! I've loved this band ever since Before Hollywood came out, and of course always will. I saw them at my local pub just ten minutes walk up the street at the time of Springhill Fair. RIP Grant.
Either you got your ears up your ass or you don’t have any at all what the fuck are you talking about? This is garbage! Times 10! brilliant???!! fucking brilliant is the Sex Pistols never mind the bollocks, that could never be reproduced. I don’t know how those clowns did it, but they did do it Johnny rotten great the bass player who original bass player was the driver behind the whole album, but he was not behind what they were putting out I’m not sure if there was a message.
One of my favorite songs is about abortion that’s not a baby it’s a fucking abortion. That is one of the lyrics I do believe and if you’re religious well, you would want to tear Johnny rotten out of the womb anyway, wouldn’t you’s? Bunch of goddamn hypocrites.
Love this song, a really under-rated band at the time here in Australia. I wish I had paid more attention to them back in the 80s instead of the 90s, I kind of feel I missed out on something great in Aussie music.
One of my first cd's. Played it a thousand times. And knowing absolutely nothing about the band(no internet back then). Never saw a glimps on tv, saw only b/w photo on the sleeve. Now I know how they looked, who was singing and who payed guitar. Very strange, maybe it should have stayed that way.
Cool song....great times...so amazing to remember this band and many good bands from OZ....nearly brings a tear ..cos its so sad here we are in 2021 what this country and NZ are doing ....like we know things are not right
---from circa 1985 Go-Betweens were pretty much my favorite band, and yet ..this was the first video I ever saw of their's, if this is nostalgia ..so what . Thanks for uploading!
Thanks very much to Carrie from Sleater-Kinney for telling me about this band. How has this amazing act slipped passed me as though someone had secreted them in an overcoat and dashed out the door? What's more... LP Hartley's novel is one of my favorites!
In my opinion one of the most underrated bands from Australia, they are fantastic never received the recognition they surely deserved. Another one of my favourite bands from Australia is Nice, sadly they only put out 2 albums, they remind me very much of The Go Betweens .
Harvey Wallbanger I found out he died when I watched an Australian documentary on one of their albums, I was shocked and sad be cause I always had the hope they will come to Perú some day ):
Amen. That was a godawful shock. Only John Lennon's murder and Joe Strummer's sudden death hit me with that kind of force. Is it piggishly sexist for me to observe that Amanda Palmer is absolutely beautiful ? Well she is regardless of what that makes me.
Just realised after all these years that from about the 1 minute mark Robert Forster is toting a 3 pickup Epiphone Crestwood. How many of these were there in Australia I wonder - Deniz Tek has let me play his famous white one.
I'm not sure what is sexier here - Amanda and Grant's chemistry or Robert's lippy. It is a great, playful video and so sad when you know what was coming....
Had not heard this song in years..... then heard it recently on a local college station..... Great tune! PS maybe there is hope for the younger generation ( musically at least?) LOL
Anybody else notice the dialog that can be heard faintly at the end of the song? You have to turn the volume up pretty high. When I first bought this album on cassette way back in 1988 I thought I heard it and forgot about it until listening to this now over 30 years later. It's not just on the tape. I wish I could hear it clear enough to figure out what was being said, but it's probably just some random conversation that got picked up in the recording process.
Iain lad, as always, You're a gentleman and a scholar with the electric 🎸 🔊 Bass ❤😊thumbs!! You should try and do type Ø negative, or even better lad, The Bølshøi 😊

You guys are like Rembrandt. You won’t realise how good you were till it’s all over. Then you will be studied and appreciated for eternity. Infinity
Also a little like "The Rembrandts".
The Go Betweens, The Triffids, Hoodoo Gurus....how great was Australian music during this period?
Ed Kuepper
The saints made it possible for me to go from one stage to another
Don’t forget Mental As Anything
feedtime, Crime & the City Solution..
The Cosmic Psychos, Radio Birdman, The Church. The list is endless.
Brilliant, underrated and underappreciated song. Musically so interesting and perfect production.
Fully rated. Not underrated, not overrated. Just rated.
and great killer lyrics
I'm american and feel very privilidged to know about this band. I listened to it non-stop. So great.
So honest. Such a lack of pretense. So much fun.
My God the charisma of all five of them! I've loved this band ever since Before Hollywood came out, and of course always will. I saw them at my local pub just ten minutes walk up the street at the time of Springhill Fair. RIP Grant.
Great song with beautiful melody. This along with Streets of your Town were their best songs.
This number gets better as the years go by
Saw Paul Kelly sing lead vocal on this with the Go Betweens in Melbourne last weekend - awesome!
R.I.P., Grant.
That bass line is killer. Great song.
The way Amanda looks at Grant 🔥01:20
Just brilliant. Too brilliant for words. So infectious. What a brilliant band Go Between were. Can't say brilliant enough times.

makes me cry how good Australian music was once
Love this song, a really under-rated band at the time here in Australia. I wish I had paid more attention to them back in the 80s instead of the 90s, I kind of feel I missed out on something great in Aussie music.
You did...:/
I feel that way too
StainlessSteelCynic You're not the only one. Never too late to discover good music.
StainlessSteelCynic a couple of gigs at the Tivoli in Brisbane in the 80s were legendary
youre very simple, arent you ?
First time I listen to this song and it feels like it always lived inside my head
Just ran across this for the first time...this is a great song. I love the violin.
probably the best violin solo ever
Love it Natsuki! Reminds me of living in Tokyo in the 90s. Please do a tour to Australia!!!
Love The Go-Betweens....fantastic band. So many great records.
There is something so reminiscent of Hand in Glove about this track.
I get this. Good ear.
How did I miss this band growing up, Lindy looks beautiful. lovely music
This song expresses an anxious feeling in the most emotive, danceable way possible, so amazing
ill have what youre smoking
Loved them live at the STUC and other venues in the 80's! I'm enjoying them as much now as I did then!
Not just one of my favorite Go-Betweens songs, one of my all time favorite songs!
Go the Go-Betweens. So glad I found you in my latter years! Legends each and everyone of you!
Great to see a female drummer!
she does the adds for over 50's insurance now. Linda Morrison is her name
Unbelievably consistent album. I still listen to it often.
As are all of their albums, great, great band!
What a song. They're doing it light but this is a dark tune.
this band got me through Oenology 1999-2004 up and down romances and friendships at uni
Love the way Grant and Amanda start the video with that circling routine. 🤣
Yeah they were a couple back then

This album means the world to me.
I feel lucky to have seen them a few times in CA.
Saw Paul Kelly sing lead vocal on this with the Go Betweens in Melbourne last weekend - awesome!
I enjoy the entire catalogue but this could be, arguably, the most quintessential GB song. classic!
That bass line is killer. Great song.
So long ago and so in time.
What a pleasure.
R.I.P Grant McLennan. I used to do this song in the 90's with a band that I played in called Blackened with my then-girlfriend Julie.
---from circa 1985 Go-Betweens were pretty much my favorite band, and yet ..this was the first video I ever saw of their's, if this is nostalgia ..so what . Thanks for uploading!
Followed this band in the late 80s. Great Band!
This is kind of good tune. I dig it man.
Thanks very much to Carrie from Sleater-Kinney for telling me about this band. How has this amazing act slipped passed me as though someone had secreted them in an overcoat and dashed out the door? What's more... LP Hartley's novel is one of my favorites!
never sleep with the band
Amanda I love you too ❣
*They were introduced in Mexico via (now dissapeared) Rock 101, great time great music and great band RIP in very loving memory of Grant 😢*
Fun! x
Brilliant track and video👌
I didn’t believe my work colleague at Woollhra Library that this was the same Amanda that I worked with ... that she was in a band in the 80s
In my opinion one of the most underrated bands from Australia, they are fantastic never received the recognition they surely deserved. Another one of my favourite bands from Australia is Nice, sadly they only put out 2 albums, they remind me very much of The Go Betweens .
Dave you’re right they are my fav Aussie band, bar none.Triffids good ,Go betweens much better ,in my old head at least.
Robert Forster's face at 0'44'' reminds me when I'm at work
That violin part at the end so uplifting

Lindy so stoked here
Favourite Aussie band, so rated, tragedy of grant McLennan's early passing
@@goldigit thank you.
No-one EVER underrated The Go-Betweens.
@@iananderson3799 australian music industry did. like your use of capitals, 😉
They were so great
Some things are perfect
their greatness as a band is beyond rate
way ahead of their time. forever music.top banana
I like that ''teen ager'' feeling. It's refreshing.
So sad that we don't have Grant anymore...😢😫😪 he was great with Amanda 😍🤩🎻🎸🎶🎤
Where grant?
There are so many amazing and wonderful songs from the '80s and '90s, popular or not, with horrible videos that should be lost forever...the videos.
Great 👍 song 🎵 and band! RIP Grant
best band ever
Beautiful composition. If I didn't know otherwise I would assume they were New Zealanders. Check Able Tasmans or look Blue Go Purple for instance.
1988 Downunder!
I love the Go-Betweens.
Sorry for the loss of Grant.
Info about Evan Katz leads me here. Good to know this band!
This was their best song
I still prefer "The streets in your town " more

LOVE. THIS BAND- MY FAV BAND

delacorta1 chemistry that was fairly short lived, well if you call 5-6 years short lived
What happened?
It was Lindy'' cerise lingerie for me!!
rather!
The sexiest thing is that bird bangin drums
Had not heard this song in years..... then heard it recently on a local college station..... Great tune!
PS maybe there is hope for the younger generation ( musically at least?) LOL
Or some of those college radio people have had shows for 20 years
Интересный коллектив. Спасибо!

Also didn’t notice until you mentioned it but yeah probably just some stray conversation
Or perhaps that was intentional and we just cant figure out what is being said; knowing Grant and Robert thru their repertoire, i wouldnt be surprised
Gran banda de australia mi hermana vive en nueva zelanda
For me Grant was the greatest singer without a voice.
That is the stuff

The verse is very like Villiers Terrace by Echo and the Bunnymen
Grant was pretty handsome. He has charisma
looking back... my attraction to him in this video was an early indication that I was gay
I just came because i found a cd by these guys at my thrift store
Newtown
Stop saying there were under rated The critics loved them . They just did not sell a lot . The perfect cult band
Well said.
I just ate a red popsicle, yeah, yeah it was a cherry one, honestly
If you know the full story.... The irony stabs you when you are not looking.
the level of pub league visual performance here is almost subversive, when contrasted with the brilliance of the band.
could have done

I’m in love with Amanda and her sexy flirting with Grant, lucky bugger!
