for almost 30 years I listen to the Go-Betweens and more recent Robert and Grant ... They are the only artists who seem to have a song for every feeling or occasion.that comes up in my life.. ..Love you guys
A genius of a generation, a credit greater than yet to his Nation, and a gem, never a costume or a way station, in one's evocation of love by way of peregrination. Ave, Masters Forster & McLellan (sic ~ :) ).
Biggest sadness musically in my life not seeing this wonderful band in life and to the two musical genius's behind this wonderful band,Thankyou Robert and Grant forever admired.
NewHopeNashFan, I could not agree more. I discovered the Go-Betweens by chance in in 1988 and became an instant fan of them and Grant's solo work. It's criminal that they to this day are virtually unknown here in America. Grant's music has a very profound and deep meaning in my life and that he passed away so young is something that I have a really hard time accepting. The GB's music is what took me to Oz for 3 months. A country I fell in love with. Dunno if I can go back to Brisbane now. :-(
beautiful...my daughter loves this song now, she is 19 and heard it while visiting me. I still think of the first lady that I loved when I listen to this song
I saw them play one of their first gigs in a hall in Caxton St. Bruce Anton from Rocking Horse Records and a band called the Survivors played drums. I saw them at the Exchange Hotel after that playing with The Numbers.
My friend said that this song made him think of me, then I searched it and listened to it. It's a beautiful song! Thanks to him for telling me about this song. And I wish I can be with him.
I came to the Go Betweens through rock, prog and blues; they're one of the few 'pop' bands that are THAT good :) Robert Forster and Grant McLennan (RIP) had sublime collaborative chemistry, and produced wonderful solo albums too! A great band, and always will be! Greetings from the UK!
Agree - they're very creative and original. What amazes me is that as a singer Forster isn't that good and as a guitarist McLennan wasn't exceptional. But the consistency of the collaboration and harmonising is unbelievably good ... just perfect. There aren't too many moments in music when that happens. REM's guitars, Michelle Branch's voice harmonising with her strumming guitar. Plus, Steven Wilson is another artist that came up through rock and prog that currently is doing some great pop.
I've been a Go-Betweens fan since the late 80's (around ten yo), then loved Grant's solo work as I grew older... I acknowledged their reformation at the time, but now, listening to this, and in hindsight of Grant's untimely passing, I wish I'd paid more attention while I had the chance. I love the interplay between Robert and Grant- you can almost see one of them lurking in the kitchen while the other raised laughs in the lounge room. This is such a beautiful song.
I found out about these guys because for this album, the drummer is Glenn Thompson from Custard, hence my profile pic. These guys are fantastic, and I actually own this album on CD. All the songs are great, but this one is the best.
Great song. I only ever really knew Cattle and Cane as a song I heard on the radio from them (I actually bought the single I liked it that much), so it's great to discover gems like this one many years later.
I love this song. It has so much energy, positive energy. Give me a Ford Thunderbird and I will cross America from East to West Coast. The sound maybe could be better. More open. Best wishes from Salamanca, SPAIN!!!.
Around this time was also Paul Kelly and the Coloured Girls (later Messengers). Beautiful words and melodic music. Music to close your eyes to and dream.
saw robert play a acoustic set beside the brisbane river a few months ago, bought my daughter along, first quality muso she has seen, the go-betweens now have a bridge over the river named after them, well deserved, great aussie music
I missed this band in my youth - am just starting to catch up now. That's a very Churchy jangly guitar there as well as Kilby-style offhand vocals. They also remind me of The Cure and Paul Kelly to give a very upbeat fusion of art pop and urban folk. Nice song.
Just saw Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub) and Joe Pernice (Scud Mountain Boys, Pernice Brothers) perform this track acoustically as part of the Sydney Festival - made me look up the original, a very beautiful track.
Davin, this was the 'The Go-Betweens' comeback, the band originated from late 80's,mid 90's. Best Aussie band to not make it commercially\internationally :-)
isnt it good to live at a time when a song like this exists .brilliant song brilliant band saw you many times.pity the charts didnt recognise you but thats a good thing leave that to girls aloud .
@meiguoren66 .. I had that thought too, but geez.. you'd bring on the tears. There is truly something special about "finding you"..even the first few bars... a kind of wistful pathos?, a sensitive beautiful dignified humanity? .. the tribute version is excellent too, which I must buy.
Listening to these songs today And also to the House of love tonight Is not like being old or young Is not like being in our out of tune Is more about being in another place Like it’s always been When the Beatles and the Stones Made it good to be alone When you needed a whispered song To tell you about the bachelor kisses. A rock’n’roll friend, anyhow, anyway
After 19 years I have now bought the whole album, what can I say ...😊
I love it, one song better than the other ...❤😊
The most underrated Australian band of all time ….they deserved to have more success than they did ..
The second most underrated, imho, just after the Triffids.
The worst part about this song is that It has to end!! The go- betweens are the best band Australia ever produced, without a doubt!!
An extraordinary song.
I find it hard to listen without welling up.
I Dedicate this to my Dad RIP mate, I'll love & remember you 4 EVER!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
One of the best Aussie songs ever. By one of the best bands Australia ever produced.
for almost 30 years I listen to the Go-Betweens and more recent Robert and Grant ... They are the only artists who seem to have a song for every feeling or occasion.that comes up in my life..
..Love you guys
Try The Tragically Hip!
what is robert and grant?
Damn, this song can still make me cry!
Ten years have passed since I first heard this wonderful piece of art?? This song is timeless. I'll never forget you, Grant. Thank you!!
My fave song ever.
Has a very special meaning to me. Takes me back every time.
Love it
10 years today, never forgotten. Thanks for the music Grant.
+The Groovy Side Of the Tube Great to see someone else remembered. Beautiful legacy.
+Scott Landells I do as well,so sad that death ended the amazing story of them...
RIP GRANT ..a great one
The Go-Betweens are who I think of when I hear the term 'endlessly listenable'.
So glad that I just found this band.
Best Aussie band ever and never sold out for the Commercial Crap.
They could have for all I care but they made great songs and that's everything that counts for me.
For a long time I thought the Church was the most original Australian band, but as I hear more of the Go-Betweens I'm starting to change my mind.
@@tullfan7872 The Church is a rock band, the best there is; The Go Betweens are a great pop band.
So glad I got to see them many times when they reformed. Don’t know how I missed them in the 80’s as they were right up my street. Love them so much.
A genius of a generation, a credit greater than yet to his Nation, and a gem, never a costume or a way station, in one's evocation of love by way of peregrination. Ave, Masters Forster & McLellan (sic ~ :) ).
One of their most beautiful and touching songs
Biggest sadness musically in my life not seeing this wonderful band in life and to the two musical genius's behind this wonderful band,Thankyou Robert and Grant forever admired.
why is this album not on Spotify along with the others?!

Same here. Regret and hope
Love this song makes me remember how beautiful being young is:)♥ go betweens opened my heart all those years ago when I began "finding me"
I saw them play one of their first gigs in a hall in Caxton St.
And I wish I can be with him.
so just do it. go to him!
+kampfeis Lol. I wish. But I think he doesn't feel the same :(
I only can pray the best for him.
The most beautiful song GW ever wrote (IMHO) ... bless you mate (x)
So beautiful, superb song and great band,we miss you!
Beautiful, as always.....RIP Grant,,,you were one of a kind
i sang this at my old school before we all left and it brings so many memories back! thank you! :')
It took me a long time to acquire a taste for the Go-Betweens and I'm still not their biggest fan, but this song is just exquisite.
I came to the Go Betweens through rock, prog and blues; they're one of the few 'pop' bands that are THAT good :) Robert Forster and Grant McLennan (RIP) had sublime collaborative chemistry, and produced wonderful solo albums too! A great band, and always will be!

Australian Music Immortals......
True musicianship covers a multitude of things: Adele's brilliant bass counterpoint at 2:07 gets me every time!
The song's full of great hooks. One of the best I've ever heard.
Damn good band that never quite reached their potential. This is easily their best song.
I found out about these guys because for this album, the drummer is Glenn Thompson from Custard, hence my profile pic.
These guys are fantastic, and I actually own this album on CD. All the songs are great, but this one is the best.
An old friend brought this song to my attention. I miss that friend and I miss the Go-Betweens.
I keep coming back to listen to this. Best Grant song ever.
A master of his craft, sublime song writing. Thanks Grant.
Love this song but it tears my heart out that it is one of Grant's last ever....truly a musical genius.
any australian with any musical taste knows this one of best local songs and bands ever
Just beautiful.
This should have 350m views
Magic song, helped me through a hard time, great aussie band,Grant magic
Great song. I only ever really knew Cattle and Cane as a song I heard on the radio from them (I actually bought the single I liked it that much), so it's great to discover gems like this one many years later.
good post it's twenty seven years since I saw em in Manchester .this is brilliant
i'm a songwriter myself, and i can learn from this great song. glad i discovered this!
I love this song. It has so much energy, positive energy.
Give me a Ford Thunderbird and I will cross America from East to West Coast.
The sound maybe could be better. More open.
Best wishes from Salamanca, SPAIN!!!.
Love the song. Everything is fantastic. But the vocals! I mean the backing vocals as well. Perfection.
Around this time was also Paul Kelly and the Coloured Girls (later Messengers). Beautiful words and melodic music. Music to close your eyes to and dream.
Staggering brilliance.
Perfect!
saw robert play a acoustic set beside the brisbane river a few months ago,
bought my daughter along, first quality muso she has seen,
the go-betweens now have a bridge over the river named after them,
well deserved,great aussie music
A great song in any era.

Great song,wonderful Australian act.
Totally After, melancholic and beautiful

My song for Quinny.. RIP, I love you with this song babe!!! xoxoxxxo
Sounds good considering this was made around 2005. I did not think anything made after the mid 1990s could sound decent but this is pretty good.
Davin, this was the 'The Go-Betweens' comeback, the band originated from late 80's,mid 90's. Best Aussie band to not make it commercially\internationally :-)
Davin Dx You seem to have some issues, Gramps
dangermoose2000
That is the pot calling the kettle coal black.
