68 now; lost everything 21 years ago - almost all of my family, job, what friends I did have and went to prison. Got out, started over and am doing okay now with the help of one family member and God. This song means a lot to me.
When I was 7, my older brother happened to spot a CD laying on the side of the highway. He made my mom stop the car and ran down back the highway and grabbed it (he was in the 7th grade). One of us asked why he had to get it. He said, "You never say no to music". He put it in the CD player and it worked perfectly. Wildflowers started and it was my first time hearing Tom Petty.
I met Mr. Petty at the age of 12 with my Dad at a meet and greet before a show! He asked me what I had in my hand which was a journal he signed it Keep Dreaming- Tom Petty! listening to this for the 1st time... the song is alright, nothing wrong with it in particular, but the sound production on it is "too clean"... it doesn't fit with his overall vibe as an artist... it sounds a bit harsh on the speakers, it's not "clean" in a warm way

He did not have the..I am a rock star attitude..I have posted this on many of Tom's songs..He was just so nice and down to earth. I miss him and I can not stop my tears for him.We LOVE you Tom, ROCK IN PEACE..You are at the room at the top.

Tom Petty realized very early on that visuals could be equally as important as the music and was known for embracing the music video and creating great ones. He really had a good sense about pairing the two.
I just got off the phone with my separated wife. She is doing great and I’m struggling in life. I came back inside to work and this was playing. Sometimes the universe speaks to you.
It happened the same to me, with Petty’s learning to fly. It was 3 days ago. I’m 48 and into heavy metal, but Petty got me thinking i need to work harder on my serenity. My woman will never come back, the sooner i get the fact the better!

But let me get to the point, let's roll another joint And turn the radio loud, I'm too alone to be proud and you don't know how it feels You don't know how it feels to be me😊
I went to physical therapy today and this was on the radio, by the end of the song almost everyone there was singing along doctors included lol that's something I'll never forget R.I.P. Tom
Born in '87, I always used to resent as a child that my mom would play nothing but her favorite music every night throughout the house. Now that I'm an adult, I genuinely couldn't be more grateful that embedded deep within my consciousness is a catalog of music that includes the likes of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Tracy Chapman and so many other great artists of that time. Some of these songs I haven't heard in decades, but within seconds of hitting play flood back into my memory as though I had just listened to them yesterday. Every note, every chord and every word. I truly do consider myself fortunate to have such a strong connection to this music, and in some sense feel very sad for the generations ahead who (unless they're very fortunate) will never know music as poetry. While every generation has their strengths and weaknesses, I'd be lying if I said that I have much hope for the music industry going forward. Artists are too aware of their own audience now. They're too focused on making music with mass appeal, absent of all modesty and emotional connection. I know this is said so often that it's become hacky, but they truly don't make them like this anymore! RIP Tom Petty
bro we get it you want likes, but Tom is above all of the online pandering. Realize that you loving something means just as much as others affirming your love for something.
So true, Music Momma. Your comment moved me. He was such a part of my life, good God, for nearly 40 years. And really, he still is. My love and appreciation for him has only grown and deepened since his departure. I read Warren Zane's biography of him, I've immersed myself in his music all over again, spent a lot of time thinking about him and how so much of what he sang about seemed as if it was my own life he was singing about - all that. Losing Tom was like losing the older brother I never had; it hurt a lot and I've shed many tears over the year since, but he's still inside me; his music is still very much a part of my life. But man, I sure miss him.
“I’m too alone to be proud...” Wow, what a simple, but powerful line. Who among us hasn’t felt like that at some point? If you haven’t, you’re lucky. Or maybe not completely honest with yourself.
@@asxpyeptho3055 Well, for example: If you feel alone all the time in the world, because you don't feel anyone understands you, you become accustomed to feeling so alone all the time. Eventually, you take no pride in doing certain things that normally would make you feel proud in a group of people, because you're used to just being a good person not seeking glory, but just wanting to mind your own business or do good unto others, if you're into that. (Hopefully)
This song reflects so many of us in this day and time. People have become so immersed in themselves, they fail to see how others are suffering inside. Smiles on the outside only cover hidden pain within. Take the time to ask.
This man was the greatest american singer songwriter to ever bless a stage and a microphone and our ear drums. If the whole world listened to tom petty still it would be so much of a better place
Turning Up My Radio, Rolling Another Joint, Crying And Missing You! The Great Talented Tom Petty, My Heart Is So Sadden💔 I Loved Your Music And Songs! RIP..You Will Be Truely Missed! We Loved You! Tom, "You Don't Know How It Feels"💔
I had all these things to say about Tom and how important his music was and is to so many of us but instead I just miss him. He was one of those amazing artists that was such an integral part of Americana and our collective conscience that you just kinda took for granted that fact he'd always be here. The world is definitely a little less bright without him in it.
I feel bad I cried we lost a great rock singer and musician I saw him 3 times in concert 1992, 2008,and 2010. Rest in Peace Tom Petty you gave us great music for 40 years.
In remember of my brother " WAYNE" he died March 29, 2019 and he loved this song. It played at his furnel. I miss you so much wayne. And forever love you 💔
That shit cuts deep and he managed to brush it off as just another part of existence... Do you remember the first time you actually woke up..? Where it took you..? I believe it's painful for us all. One day AI will explain it in painful detail and it will either remind us of who we are(if awake), or startle us awake in the most agonizing way possible...
RIP Tom Petty! I came to this song first, it's one of the greratest songs ever made. Loved your music since I was a child and deeply saddened for the world losing you today.

Tom Petty tells his own story of you don't know how it feels and I now so much feel him. My oldest 26 yr. son was killed in 2014 so I quote Mr. Petty; "you don't know how it feels". Of my circumstance, I pray no person is ever aware of "you don't know how it feels" and I thank Tom Petty for the passing of his story that has tended to ease of my hurt...
Todd Watlington So sorry for your lost one of my sons and thank god he let me have another,I hope your doing ok,I know the pain will never go away but try to remember him and all the good times you had with him,my thoughts and prayers are with you
Todd I feel your pain and sorrow, I was in Viet Nam at age 19, The girl I was to marry, killed herself , when I was in Nam, Buddy I know hell, I know heartbreak, I know how it feels to lose a loved one, as I have. Write to me if you want to..I feel for you buddy..I am not joking with you man..I am the real deal here.
I'll never forget the night I saw Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers 40th Anniversary in Ottawa Canada with the Webb Sisters as backup vocals! Haunting and moving performance with incredible harmonies altogether! I'd give anything to relive that night. R.I.P. Tom Petty. October 1st 2017, we lost a true legend of music.
moon47mars me too. I saw Tom Petty and the heartbreakers two weeks ago at Kaabo. I wish I can back and relive that moment watching the band played. He moved me that day
well, if you want to get technical, they pulled the plug on the 2nd, but he was done on the 1st. We all punch our ticket one day, no point in worrying about it
RIP forever one of the greats...you can "Free fall" all you want and never have to "back down" and let us know "how it feels" to forever "dance with Mary Jane"

Here's the lyrics :
Let me run with you tonight
I'll take you on a moonlight ride
There's someone I used to see
But she don't give a damn for me
But let me get to the point, let's roll another joint
And turn the radio loud, I'm too alone to be proud
You don't know how it feels
You don't know how it feels to be me
People come, people go
Some grow young, some grow cold
I woke up in between
A memory and a dream
So let's get to the point, let's roll another joint
Let's head on down the road
There's somewhere I gotta go
And you don't know how it feels
You don't know how it feels to be me
My old man was born to rock
He's still tryin' to beat the clock
Think of me what you will
I've got a little space to fill
So let's get to the point, let's roll another joint
And let's head on down the road
There's somewhere I got to go
And you don't know how it feels
No, you don't know how it feels to be me

you're correct!
Thank You I still cry been a year I met Tom in1990,@@katiekay4601
I just love him half to death. No wonder he was a member of The Travelling WIlburys. He's just about perfect!
Excuse me, he is perfect.
He is.
got that right, roll another
ol' Tom's a living legend, that doesn't know or care that he is.....and dammit, that why we love him
D Thomas This song was about my grandmother. Idc what you think im telling the truth!
Well said.
Really ENJOY It❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
Thumbs up if you're listening to this great classic in 2024
bro we get it you want likes, but Tom is above all of the online pandering. Realize that you loving something means just as much as others affirming your love for something.
How many of the 2024 crop will still be listened to in twenty years, or forty years?
Listening before I do a live poetry reading, and it's definitely soothing the nerves with a couple of beers in me! 😂
👍🏼👍🏼

He was awesome
Rip Tom youre fan in Alaska
He looks so beautiful here! RIP Tom Petty!!
Hello
Yes, isn’t he scrumptious here?!
“I’m too alone to be proud...”
Wow, what a simple, but powerful line. Who among us hasn’t felt like that at some point? If you haven’t, you’re lucky. Or maybe not completely honest with yourself.
Can you explain please. I'm trying hard to understand
I definitely feel that way sometimes.
Yep!
@Sheila Hayne Love to your dog and we all miss Tom
@@asxpyeptho3055 Well, for example: If you feel alone all the time in the world, because you don't feel anyone understands you, you become accustomed to feeling so alone all the time. Eventually, you take no pride in doing certain things that normally would make you feel proud in a group of people, because you're used to just being a good person not seeking glory, but just wanting to mind your own business or do good unto others, if you're into that. (Hopefully)
To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.
RIP Tom, i didnt see this coming for quite some time. Your music always puts me in a better place, too soon.

FUCK YOU
Dustin Fasske Ain't that the truth...💔
kathleen xander ?
Dustin Fasske No, what you said...😖 I miss him
This song reflects so many of us in this day and time. People have become so immersed in themselves, they fail to see how others are suffering inside. Smiles on the outside only cover hidden pain within. Take the time to ask.
Yeah people don't know how to do that anymore ❗❣️🌹💯
Let’s be honest Tom Petty is the perfect artist for road trips
Agreed!
Ya and while smoking too 😍
Man I was just thinking that
Dude that is so true though
My brother and I drove across LA, Vegas and San Francisco with Tom in the CD player all the way.
This man was the greatest american singer songwriter to ever bless a stage and a microphone and our ear drums. If the whole world listened to tom petty still it would be so much of a better place
So true! ❤️

30 years later still loving this
Good does not stop. 50 years from now they’ll be listening to Tom Petty

Nancy Statham am so so sorry for your loss
I am so so sorry for your terrible loss! Always remember the good times with him whenever you hear this song.
He's still with you may voodoo kept you together
Always waking up in between memory and a dream
That shit cuts deep and he managed to brush it off as just another part of existence... Do you remember the first time you actually woke up..? Where it took you..? I believe it's painful for us all. One day AI will explain it in painful detail and it will either remind us of who we are(if awake), or startle us awake in the most agonizing way possible...
It says I woke up between memory and a dream.
😔
RIP Tom Petty!
I came to this song first, it's one of the greratest songs ever made. Loved your music since I was a child and deeply saddened for the world losing you today.
We're going to see him on the other side one day. I've also been a long time fan since my teenage years. R.I.P. Tom😢🌹

So devastated for such a great loss. He was a good person. A good soul, you could see it and you could just feel it. So saddened.
Hello Cindy , I see happiness all around you, can I please share from it?
I was 90 in 1998. I’m 115 now and still listening to Petty!
Huh, some people DO grow young.
Oh DAMN good for you man!
We’re you born to rock, you’re still trying to beat the clock.
BS
@@CROC1225 Chill dude, you can't call something a lie without proof
I'm not saying that this comment is pure truth either, but you shouldn't accuse people without evidence
I got to see him live 4 times, and consider myself lucky to have seen him even once. He was even better in person. Truly a legend in music.
Right ? five times for me, I thought one concert would be enough but it really wasnt, wow I am so lucky to have seen him
I never got to see him in concert. It must have been mind blowing!
I saw him twice: 1999 at the Pyramid in Memphis and 2003 at the Orpheum. Won tickets both times. He kicked ass.
listening to this for the 1st time... the song is alright, nothing wrong with it in particular, but the sound production on it is "too clean"... it doesn't fit with his overall vibe as an artist... it sounds a bit harsh on the speakers, it's not "clean" in a warm way
replied to the wrong comment but the point stands 🤣do you agree? it's my first impressions anyway
Rest in Peace, Tom 💔
thatsdanielle reports are incorrect he is still on life support. You can beat this, Tom.
I'm sorry for your loss.
Todd Watlington , my son was murdered 12/18/11.
God bless you Todd.
He moved me that day
Evil Sam, Actually Oct. 2nd ;-)
well, if you want to get technical, they pulled the plug on the 2nd, but he was done on the 1st. We all punch our ticket one day, no point in worrying about it
Evil Sam Actually, it was at 8:40 P.M. on October 2, 2017.
Peace for. Tom Petty
Tom Petty is the coolest man alive!
+ZwienerZ He's one of those cool guys you just want to sit and drink, smoke and talk with.
