Today my mom's been gone for 13 years. She passed away less than 3 months after my dad did. I have such wonderful memories of riding around in our crappy gray chevette with no power steering and rusted out floor boards listening to his greatest hits cassette tape over and over because it got stuck in the tape player and this was her favorite song of his. Listening to this today in her memory. Love and miss you mom always ❤️
My dad used to sing this song when I was a little girl. He did it to be funny and because he liked the song. After he died I couldn't listen to this song without crying. Now 15 years later it still bring back memories but I love hearing it now. When I hear it I feel like he's saying hello from heaven. I have changed the meaning in my mind. I'm the "good girl" who loves Elvis, her mama, America, horses etc. and he's a "bad boy for breakin my heart" by leaving me when he passed. He doesn't even miss me because he's still with me, I just miss him because I can't see him. He's writing my name in the sky, left the world for awhile, etc. anyway, this is a great song and means a lot to me.

My parents constantly remind me that this is “their song” every time it plays. They fell in love to this song, describing how it played in the background as they experienced their first kiss. Low and behold, Free Fallin’ is basically the reason I was born lol. This song will always be special to me, as it reminds me of my lovely mom and pop. RIP Mr. Petty. Absolute legend ❤️

Good times! We filmed for 3 days, in the Valley :) I'm the girl in the scenes at the hot dog stand, in a leopard jacket and wearing a black beret and pink Body Glove swimsuit on the skateboard ramp. I auditioned for Julian Temple, the Director. He asked me if I could skate. I had been skating since I was 10. I was at my late sister's house in Sherman Oaks, Ca. I got a page from my agent. I called her and she said "you got the music video if you don't mind playing the leads best friend? I was like "hold on" (jumping up and down) and then I said Yes! We filmed for 3 days. It is cool because everywhere Tom Petty sings about, we filmed at. Reseda, Ventura Blvd., Mulholland. My home town! I am an original Valley Girl. Tom Petty ~ Gone but never forgotten Hello to any of my cast and crew mates! Devan, Cheryl, Julian Temple
Still shocked about Tom Petty dying which in my opinion was very unexpected. A pure musical genius and legend. RIP Tom Petty, gone but never forgotten!
This was my Dads favorite Petty song. He passed away 4 months ago. Tom Petty is my all time favorite, now I listen to this song more than usual. I miss you Dad. Happy Father's Day in heaven
My Dad died on Fathers Day. I had spent 3 days at my sister's house where my Dad was for the last month of his life but I had to get back home. My sister drove me down to the ferryboat and as I was getting out of the car I said "I'll see ya later Dad".... He kinda smiled a little and said "I hope so". It was so sad cuz I knew that I'd never see him again and I think he knew it too. Then they drove away and he passed away the next morning on Fathers Day. Thanx for listening to me

Damn. I'll never forget, ten years ago, when I played "Free Fallin'" on my cd boombox for 24 hours straight in my college dorm after a brutal 6 hours of back-to-back final exams in physics, physical chemistry and advanced calculus as I lay in bed, in and out of sleep the entire day. Thanks for the incomparable music, Tom Petty; the Pearly Gates await.
A true classic! I remember the day this was released: I just came home from high school with my best friend, we sat and listened to this song, and the second it was over we said to each other simultaneously - "Man,... that's just a perfect song!"... And 30 years later I feel the same.
I it a favorite of life for me...released when i was about 25, i am not sure, i did not check, and unforgetable for me because of tom cruise i ine of his best movies (for me)....Jerey mcquire ...just google Tom cruise, free falling and you will find it on youtube....
This is such a great song. Simple but amazing. This is one of my go to songs when I want to just sit back and drift away from the realities of life. I will be forever grateful to Tom Petty for producing it.🥰👍❤
I saw Tom Petty perform with the Heartbreakers three times. I was never disappointed at his concerts. He gave everyone his all every time. He was phenomenal.
Look at this, children playing outside, California vibes, people working returning to their homes, funny color classic American cars, no crime (or not as prevalent as today), people loving America for what it is, no fighting bc of politics, there was no Democrat vs Republican like nowadays, hell, there was actual entertainment, great movies that became classics, awesome music, games, no internet which made it all worse in the grand scheme of things. What's now? Wherever you turn on news it's hate x9¹⁰⁰⁰, victimhood, blaming all on skin, mainly ppl like in the video, no responsibility, blame it on someone else, not your poor decisions, polarized society, politics as the new entertainment, with today's AI you have absolutely no idea what's true anymore, media vultures cooking up bad events ("true" or not) that'll bring clicks, nonstop wars, fools having voice, social media frying our brains, one atrocity more important than the other. Just take me back to 80/90s.
@@LuckySteTravels We all do, because back then it was normal. No vitriol in the media. Life really was (or at least perceived so) easier, no identitarians, authoritarians, you could even say ppl were peacefully and happily oblivious to all the wrongdoings, because with the rise of internet we began to think life is getting worse on a daily basis, when it was not, we just lived in our cities, towns, country, and weren't blasted with bad news from each corner of the Earth. Most of what we started to watch normally we wouldn't see in our lifetime, but the internet made all the bad things being exposed on a daily basis and people thought the planet is getting worse and worse, which was just false. We don't experience 99,9% things we watch happen on videos. Social media killed us, made us depressed. People are now looking at their phones in buses, play multiplayer in houses etc. instead of interacting with each other. We see bad things after bad things happen, we see stupid challenges made by kids that cause death, TT is destroying children's brains. Really, we became less sociable and more identitarian, angry, bitter, jealous and I can go on. Those things existed, but Internet fueled them. We weren't supposed to know all this stuff, being exposed to it because it overloads our brains. I don't know if this gets posted but if it does not, respond to it with your thoughts anyway.
The intro is one of the best I've ever heard.... And this as a whole is perhaps one of the best songs of all time. "Free Falling" is a jewel for all who was raised in the valley's. Tom Petty have moved from a great singer to an icon. God bless him.... Petty's work will be always remembered. What a great song for pete sakes 🧏🏼♀️🔥

The bass line is super underrated too... Very simple but cleverly harmonizes with the guitar
An all time classic 😎

I called her and she said "you got the music video if you don't mind playing the leads best friend? I was like "hold on" (jumping up and down) and then I said Yes! We filmed for 3 days. It`s one of these things that portray a specific era but is also timeless.
Well the first part was the fifties or the snobby part of the sixties.
This happens every day… he was picking up ‘good girls’ and dumping them…
He felt his morals were falling. Oddly people think this was about skydiving, so he did learn to fly.

Andrew Todaro Are you stupid? Modern music does not sound like this.

Alex Newtian Modern music will never beat the classics. The "Student's surpass their masters" rule doesn't apply with people like Miley Cyrus and Nicki Manaj who get popular from the things they do not the music they make. If you could even call it music.
