What a lovely story Jenise. I'm crying right now thinking about it. Why is it always the good ones that get taken from us so soon? What a gift they were and how it hurts now that they are gone.

Today my mom's been gone for 13 years. She passed away less than 3 months after my dad did. I have such wonderful memories of riding around in our crappy gray chevette with no power steering and rusted out floor boards listening to his greatest hits cassette tape over and over because it got stuck in the tape player and this was her favorite song of his. Listening to this today in her memory. Love and miss you mom always ❤️
My dad used to sing this song when I was a little girl. He did it to be funny and because he liked the song. After he died I couldn't listen to this song without crying. Now 15 years later it still bring back memories but I love hearing it now. When I hear it I feel like he's saying hello from heaven. I have changed the meaning in my mind. I'm the "good girl" who loves Elvis, her mama, America, horses etc. and he's a "bad boy for breakin my heart" by leaving me when he passed. He doesn't even miss me because he's still with me, I just miss him because I can't see him. He's writing my name in the sky, left the world for awhile, etc. anyway, this is a great song and means a lot to me.
One of the radio tunes of my childhood. Never knew who was behind this, I’m thankful to GTA for leading me to better look in to Tom. RIP and thank you ❤
yup same, when I saw "Tom Petty" in the description of the GTA 6 trailer It sounded familiar until I found this and realized why! I've also heard a few of his other popular songs too growing up. Many songs i've heard but never known who actually sang it
I'm retired now but I still come back here to see and listen to Tom one more time. I was so fortunate to have been part of this project. sometimes it seems as it was only yesterday. Shot at the Westside Pavilion, Reseda, and Sherman oaks. I drove home singing this tune all three nights. Never forget you, Tom. RIP.

Takes me to being 17 in HS in 1990. One of the first albums of music I bought. 33 years later, never turn this song when I hear it on the radio, stream, etc.
This song is what introduced me to Tom Petty's music. I admit, I'm quite rather embarrassed that it was the only one I knew for such a long time when he had so many hits over the years. Sorry, #TomPetty
So sad I never got to see Tom Petty play live. Thought I would always have time. Such a sad end for a magnificent musician and artist! Superb legacy left behind to keep him in our hearts!
I was fortunate to meet Tom Petty back in 1990. He was the most nicest sincere man I ever spoken to. He did not have the..I am a rock star attitude..I have posted this on many of Tom's songs..He was just so nice and down to earth. I miss him and I can not stop my tears for him.We LOVE you Tom, ROCK IN PEACE..You are at the room at the top.
Yeah my father took me to see him for the first time when I was 7 years old. I was hooked. Got to meet him a couple of times during his life as I got older. He was so sincere and humble. We played this song at my father's memorial service years ago when he died. Brings back alot of memories
I have heard this song so many times i would turn the radio down or change the station. Going into work the other morning and i turned it up and i thought the same thing you posted.
Yeah, odd that they really do tend to have a very short stay here on Earth. You would wonder what's behind it... So many young dead legends: I've lost count now. It's almost like they got wacked out for not toeing the line or something.... 🤔🤔
I've always loved this track as the chorus really resonates with me. It's the feeling that I'm free fallin' with no real direction, and I have no idea where I'm gonna land. Happy 2024 all.
When I was 16, I went on vacation to the US with my parents and we did a helicopter flight through the Grand Canyon. The pilot played this song and managed to time it in such a way that the chorus kicked in at the exact moment we were passing a cliff and the canyon would open up in front of us. It was amazing.
Isn't it awe-inspiring when events line up almost perfectly in life? Your Grand Canyon story is a phenomenal example of that. Sounds like a fantastic experience!
Wow must have been a nice experience. But isn't it too loud in a helicopter to listen to a song? I guess the volume of the song must have been loud also
Don't cry because he is gone, smile because he was here. R.I.P Tom Petty... edit: why tf does this have so many likes. edit 2: not to be that guy but thanks for the likes. nice to see everyone coming together on the replies to the comment, ill try to respond to new replies in the future. the line "gonna leave this world for a while" hits hard. his impact on music is great, his time here was legendary, we were lucky to have shared the same time with him when we did, and we should all be incredibly grateful for it. theres not a day that goes by where i dont think about him and his legacy, and even though hes gone, we can still live that legacy as many times as we want. ill say it again, R.I.P Tom Petty.
Still shocked about Tom Petty dying which in my opinion was very unexpected. A pure musical genius and legend. RIP Tom Petty, gone but never forgotten!
I can remember where I was when I heard the opening chords to "Free Falling." I was lost in Massachusetts headed to Maine. I remember how absolutely astounding the was. So simple, yet beautiful, relatable and very Tom!! I saw him on the Full Moon Fever Tour later. RIP and God bless you Tom for making this world a better place... 🎸
If u notice ...he talks sbout leaving this world for awhile. I think he knew his time was short. Life is short. Tom Petty is one of the best! He rocks!!!! Rip.
My parents constantly remind me that this is “their song” every time it plays. They fell in love to this song, describing how it played in the background as they experienced their first kiss. Low and behold, Free Fallin’ is basically the reason I was born lol. This song will always be special to me, as it reminds me of my lovely mom and pop. RIP Mr. Petty. Absolute legend ❤️
There are moments when you feel old, like when The Playboy Centerfold was actually born after you graduated high school. When the Halftime Superbowl isn't actually music. But thank you TSnell I now feel really fucking old!!!!!!
Just missing Tom today. And every day. This has to be one of the best albums in Rock history. It's perfect. I moved across the country only to have my apartment fall through on arrival. Me and my dog had to shack up with a stranger for 6 months. When I got my place I cranked my Stereo (no neighbors) and danced to Apartment Song with my dog. That was a long time ago, but Tom was there. Full Moon Fever is my favorite Petty album. Probably because it was my first Tom Petty cassette and I played that fucker till it disintegrated and bought another. Wildflowers is my next favorite, even before the re-release launched it all the way to whatever gig Tom's playing now. Tom, I love you more than my clumsy words can say. I miss you so damn bad.
Damn. I'll never forget, ten years ago, when I played "Free Fallin'" on my cd boombox for 24 hours straight in my college dorm after a brutal 6 hours of back-to-back final exams in physics, physical chemistry and advanced calculus as I lay in bed, in and out of sleep the entire day. Thanks for the incomparable music, Tom Petty; the Pearly Gates await.
My Dad bought me my first concert tickets, Tom Petty, and we went and saw him at the Greek theatre together, and Stevie nicks was his special guest. Such a great concert. Now I can’t listen to him without missing my Dad. RIP Dad. Miss you every day.
Man, that’s one great memoir of your dad link to this song. Must have been an awesome day. They do say life is all about making treasured memories. I’m sure your dad’s up there singing this song with Tom, god bless.
To the person that reads this, I ask the Lord to bless them and their family, to cure them of every sickness and pain, to fill their emptiness with love joy and peace, to rebuke the enemy from their lives. " ASK JESUS TO COME INTO YOUR HEART AND SAVE YOU, AND TO FORGIVE YOU OF YOUR SINS, FOR WE GIVE THANKS AND GLORY TO THE LORD. IN THE MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS CHRIST AMEN!

I thought the same. That was the 2nd. shot of the 1st. day of 3. Very early foggy morning in 10/18/89 at the West Side Pavilion Westwood, Ca. I remember Tom and date like it was yesterday. Thanks for the memories. R.I.P.
One of my best friends asked me if I wanted to go to a Tom Petty concert with him a few months before he passed away. I had some stupid reason for not going. One of the biggest regrets I’ll ever have. Music just isn’t like it used to be. RIP Tom
When he came to Nashville on his last tour, I scooped up tickets as fast as I could. Prince had just died and I regretted having never seen him live. I was in a "Lemme see all the legends before they die!" mood. It was THE BEST concert I had ever been to. The audience during this song and American Girl were amazing! A few months later, Tom died.
I grew up off of Ventura Blvd. and I've known this song forever, but never actually watched the video until now, funny seeing places I remember from my childhood in it. That hot dog place is long gone but the Cadillac dealer in the background is still there and hasn't changed much, I actually just test drove a truck at the adjacent GMC dealer last year.

TheGamecube64Guy 18 more days until what would have been his 67th birthday and a week later after he ended his latest tour. May he rest in peace.
TheGamecube64Guy Such a terrible loss to the music world! I am doing absolutely nothing today, except for listen to Tom Petty for the remainder of the day. R.I.P. 😓
Takes me to being 17 in HS in 1990. One of the first albums of music I bought. 33 years later, never turn this song when I hear it on the radio, stream, etc.
😢
This song is what introduced me to Tom Petty's music. I admit, I'm quite rather embarrassed that it was the only one I knew for such a long time when he had so many hits over the years. Sorry, #TomPetty
April 2024 I'm still listening! Who's with me??
Calgary Flames
Exactly
Me brother and I’m 16
Me too I m 62
May 2024.
Rip Tom. You will forever be missed.😭💕🙏🏻
Rest in peace, and may Tom free fall in the sky
Brandon Salgeuro how would that work?
RE: I don't know lol
He could be free falling into another dimension now! =) Wherever he is, I wish him everything wonderful. What an artist!!
what he died. omg I love u Tom Petty. How did he die? Does anyone know?
Sara -- he had a heart attack on Monday morning 2nd Oct.; his wife found him unconscious, and that night he died in the hospital. He was 66. :'-(
So sad I never got to see Tom Petty play live. Thought I would always have time. Such a sad end for a magnificent musician and artist! Superb legacy left behind to keep him in our hearts!
Tom's Free Fallin' from Heaven every morning now ❤
Passed too young. Well missed. Thanks for your music. R.I.P
Yeah, definitely too young; I actually thought Tom Petty was older. Death sucks.
tbh the dude was 66 and looked like 50...death always sucks but he was 66
I don't think 66 is what it used to be; i feel age 80 is the tipping point nowadays.
HE IS STILL ALIVE
wikipedia wrote it so....
I was fortunate to meet Tom Petty back in 1990. He was the most nicest
sincere man I ever spoken to. He did not have the..I am a rock star
attitude..I have posted this on many of Tom's songs..He was just so nice
and down to earth. I miss him and I can not stop my tears for him.We
LOVE you Tom, ROCK IN PEACE..You are at the room at the top.
Yeah my father took me to see him for the first time when I was 7 years old. I was hooked. Got to meet him a couple of times during his life as I got older. He was so sincere and humble. We played this song at my father's memorial service years ago when he died. Brings back alot of memories
Wait did Tom petty died?
@@ethanpayero256 yes
Rip Tom.. this comment is everything..
@@ethanpayero256 yeah a year and a half ago
Rest easy Bro✌️❤️
Greatest song ever! Rest in peace Tom petty ❤
The older i get, the more I feel Tom's songs. He was a true artist.
Yeah... he was a true legendary man of music
He managed to find a new audience every 2 years and always kept the music just as fresh!
#TomPetty
I have heard this song so many times i would turn the radio down or change the station. Going into work the other morning and i turned it up and i thought the same thing you posted.
Couldn't say it better
He's so dang good 😄
I love his music. I was sad the day I heard he passed away? 66 years old. RIP Tom Petty.
Another genius has left the building. Thanks for sharing your talents - you will be missed!😢
Yeah, odd that they really do tend to have a very short stay here on Earth.
You would wonder what's behind it...
So many young dead legends: I've lost count now. It's almost like they got wacked out for not toeing the line or something.... 🤔🤔
Tom Petty will never go out of style, music wise
I've always loved this track as the chorus really resonates with me. It's the feeling that I'm free fallin' with no real direction, and I have no idea where I'm gonna land. Happy 2024 all.
When I was 16, I went on vacation to the US with my parents and we did a helicopter flight through the Grand Canyon. The pilot played this song and managed to time it in such a way that the chorus kicked in at the exact moment we were passing a cliff and the canyon would open up in front of us. It was amazing.
That's awesome
Isn't it awe-inspiring when events line up almost perfectly in life? Your Grand Canyon story is a phenomenal example of that. Sounds like a fantastic experience!
Sitting in a helicopter and hear something about "free falling"? 🤔 Hm, I don't know.
Wow must have been a nice experience. But isn't it too loud in a helicopter to listen to a song? I guess the volume of the song must have been loud also
What a legend!
What a lovely comment !!!!!
Wasn't the biggest fan of his, but he has a song or two in the soundtrack of my life
Aaron Creagh same
Awesome comment
💔😎
Now I’m free Free Fallin 😢❤
Classic. They just don’t make ‘em like that any more ❤❤❤
One of the all time greats!
Still shocked about Tom Petty dying which in my opinion was very unexpected. A pure musical genius and legend. RIP Tom Petty, gone but never forgotten!

This is why I love the internet. It ensures that the works of a legend will never be lost.

The only reason. Haha
Def bro I agree
I can remember where I was when I heard the opening chords to "Free Falling." I was lost in Massachusetts headed to Maine. I remember how absolutely astounding the was. So simple, yet beautiful, relatable and very Tom!! I saw him on the Full Moon Fever Tour later. RIP and God bless you Tom for making this world a better place... 🎸
If u notice ...he talks sbout leaving this world for awhile. I think he knew his time was short. Life is short. Tom Petty is one of the best! He rocks!!!! Rip.
Good night, Tom. You were special.
The Heartbreakers broke our hearts. But, he'll still be live in them!
He was one of the most personal artist i ve ever heard
He isn't dead yet that report was false but, he is very bad shape.
Supposedly he's still hanging on. Please don't rush to say ppl are dead. It's rather cruel.
If he is ok then that is awesome news! But what I am saying isn't cruel. it is a reaction to multiple news outlets.
I think that is a great statement, love to you!
There are moments when you feel old, like when The Playboy Centerfold was actually born after you graduated high school. When the Halftime Superbowl isn't actually music. But thank you TSnell I now feel really fucking old!!!!!!
😊❤️❤️❤️
Sweet ❤
@@bigrags420 yep girls out run us
Glad I'm not a rabbit
I miss Tom Betty so much.
I love his music.
I always think about what his music would be now.😅❤
Well they're thankfully still waiting because Tom isn't dead yet.

This is such a great song. Simple but amazing. This is one of my go to songs when I want to just sit back and drift away from the realities of life. I will be forever grateful to Tom Petty for producing it.🥰👍❤

Tom Petty a true friend
The last scene he is going in the direction of light! I wish this is happening right now! RIP Tom!
I saw that; and he is
I thought the same.

RIP Tom
Loser
I like potato chips
When he came to Nashville on his last tour, I scooped up tickets as fast as I could. Prince had just died and I regretted having never seen him live. I was in a "Lemme see all the legends before they die!" mood. It was THE BEST concert I had ever been to. The audience during this song and American Girl were amazing! A few months later, Tom died.
Jude Flanagan you were born in 2017?
@@Meddy7463 Definitely
I grew up off of Ventura Blvd. and I've known this song forever, but never actually watched the video until now, funny seeing places I remember from my childhood in it. That hot dog place is long gone but the Cadillac dealer in the background is still there and hasn't changed much, I actually just test drove a truck at the adjacent GMC dealer last year.
One of my biggest regrets not seeing Tom Petty live. Pheno.enal artist
