My sister had breast cancer and it matasised in 2016. She was a musician 38 years and she loved listening to her favorite artists. Tom Petty was one of them, I loved him too since a teenager. She was given 4 tickets to his last tour and was promised to meet him. Tom was so kind to her and wanted to sing with her unfortunately, her hair was all gone and she felt self conscious to do so. He treated my big sister like a queen. Gave her autographs, memorabilia, every tshirt from his last concert and any product they were selling on tour. He whispered in my sisters ear, I will see you again one day Laury.. She died in June 2017 Tom Petty passed in October 2017, We lost 2 wonderful people and musicians. I am sure they are playing guitars and serenading heaven... I am very grateful my sisters dream came true and couldnt have been with a nicer man.. Thank you Tom Petty

What a lovely story Jenise. I'm crying right now thinking about it. Why is it always the good ones that get taken from us so soon? What a gift they were and how it hurts now that they are gone.

Today my mom's been gone for 13 years. She passed away less than 3 months after my dad did. I have such wonderful memories of riding around in our crappy gray chevette with no power steering and rusted out floor boards listening to his greatest hits cassette tape over and over because it got stuck in the tape player and this was her favorite song of his. Listening to this today in her memory. Love and miss you mom always ❤️

My dad used to sing this song when I was a little girl. He did it to be funny and because he liked the song. After he died I couldn't listen to this song without crying. Now 15 years later it still bring back memories but I love hearing it now. When I hear it I feel like he's saying hello from heaven. I have changed the meaning in my mind. I'm the "good girl" who loves Elvis, her mama, America, horses etc. and he's a "bad boy for breakin my heart" by leaving me when he passed. He doesn't even miss me because he's still with me, I just miss him because I can't see him. He's writing my name in the sky, left the world for awhile, etc. anyway, this is a great song and means a lot to me.

edit 2: not to be that guy but thanks for the likes. nice to see everyone coming together on the replies to the comment, ill try to respond to new replies in the future. the line "gonna leave this world for a while" hits hard. his impact on music is great, his time here was legendary, we were lucky to have shared the same time with him when we did, and we should all be incredibly grateful for it. theres not a day that goes by where i dont think about him and his legacy, and even though hes gone, we can still live that legacy as many times as we want. ill say it again, R.I.P Tom Petty.

It’s never returning. Mass migration and government propaganda has killed western culture. Inflation and re-education camps are returning though. 60s, 70s, and 80s were the last great burst of humanity before it’s decline. Do you ever think about how there is no longer cultural definitions of the decades? 60s - beads, flowers, peace, love. 70s- bell bottoms, rock n roll 80s - Synth music, neon colors, etc. etc. Now, 2010s - ??? 2020s-??? The cultural enlightenment of the western world has been extinguished. Our culture consists of corporate fashion, corporate designed architecture, bland corporate cities, corporate controlled social movements. Anybody that is old enough to have experienced the 80s or even the 90s knows what I mean. Something was vibrant in life and culture in those days. Whatever “it” was is missing today. I feel like 9/11 was the catalyst for the shift, or a result of the shift taking place. Schizophrenic rant over.

Good times! We filmed for 3 days, in the Valley :) I'm the girl in the scenes at the hot dog stand, in a leopard jacket and wearing a black beret and pink Body Glove swimsuit on the skateboard ramp. I auditioned for Julian Temple, the Director. He asked me if I could skate. I had been skating since I was 10. I was at my late sister's house in Sherman Oaks, Ca. I got a page from my agent. I called her and she said "you got the music video if you don't mind playing the leads best friend? I was like "hold on" (jumping up and down) and then I said Yes! We filmed for 3 days. It is cool because everywhere Tom Petty sings about, we filmed at. Reseda, Ventura Blvd., Mulholland. My home town! I am an original Valley Girl.

My sister drove me down to the ferryboat and as I was getting out of the car I said "I'll see ya later Dad".... He kinda smiled a little and said "I hope so". It was so sad cuz I knew that I'd never see him again and I think he knew it too. Then they drove away and he passed away the next morning on Fathers Day. Thanx for listening to me

Look at this, children playing outside, California vibes, people working returning to their homes, funny color classic American cars, no crime (or not as prevalent as today), people loving America for what it is, no fighting bc of politics, there was no Democrat vs Republican like nowadays, hell, there was actual entertainment, great movies that became classics, awesome music, games, no internet which made it all worse in the grand scheme of things. What's now? Wherever you turn on news it's hate x9¹⁰⁰⁰, victimhood, blaming all on skin, mainly ppl like in the video, no responsibility, blame it on someone else, not your poor decisions, polarized society, politics as the new entertainment, with today's AI you have absolutely no idea what's true anymore, media vultures cooking up bad events ("true" or not) that'll bring clicks, nonstop wars, fools having voice, social media frying our brains, one atrocity more important than the other. Just take me back to 80/90s.

@@LuckySteTravels We all do, because back then it was normal. No vitriol in the media. Life really was (or at least perceived so) easier, no identitarians, authoritarians, you could even say ppl were peacefully and happily oblivious to all the wrongdoings, because with the rise of internet we began to think life is getting worse on a daily basis, when it was not, we just lived in our cities, towns, country, and weren't blasted with bad news from each corner of the Earth. Most of what we started to watch normally we wouldn't see in our lifetime, but the internet made all the bad things being exposed on a daily basis and people thought the planet is getting worse and worse, which was just false. We don't experience 99,9% things we watch happen on videos. Social media killed us, made us depressed. People are now looking at their phones in buses, play multiplayer in houses etc. instead of interacting with each other.
We see bad things after bad things happen, we see stupid challenges made by kids that cause death, TT is destroying children's brains.
Really, we became less sociable and more identitarian, angry, bitter, jealous and I can go on. Those things existed, but Internet fueled them.
We weren't supposed to know all this stuff, being exposed to it because it overloads our brains. I don't know if this gets posted but if it does not, respond to it with your thoughts anyway.
