I didn't notice it, but now that I am in my mid 30s I see that my friends with nice job titles don't have anyone waiting for them at home. I get looked down on for choosing to be a wife vs. a girl boss (because even as a teen I would see these career woman have no one to share their success with and they always looked very miserable to me). But when my single career friends need help with something like the front door not closing etc. I am the one that has to call my husband to come help them. I don't think people value building a life/family with someone and would rather focus on building their resumé, I always since I was in my late teens aspired to share and build with a man.

I dont think aspiring for a career and/or money is masculine. We live in a capitalist world and the female species has ALWAYS been attracted to resources. I have a partner, but I'm happy I have assets of my own to fall back on. It seems we always talk about women who focused on career first, especially when their dating life didn’t pan out. But I know plenty of women who put dating first, didn't finish school, and ended up baby mommas or divorced and broke with kids, and not many good job prospects. Why is one better than the other? Yeah he sees the same old me everyday and I can't answer for him, but he don't complain and tells me it was the best decision to get married when we did. I was 29 and him 23 year's old. I made him my best friend. No diseases or different sex partners which WE like. Other ppl are different to each his own. I think he benefitted mostly from marriage but I don't mind. Why are so many black males wannabe Nick Canon and that football player? I've been in long-term relationships throughout schooling and nearly proposed to (I ended the relationship thankfully) and there's nothing I regret about obtaining my degrees, career acumen, and financial investments. I do not regret my refusal to cave to societal norms of marriage and bringing children into this world just to be societal burdens because I knew those relationships were not healthy and neither was I mentally and spiritually. There are plenty of folks who are unwell and/or not doing the healing hooking up, bringing children into the world and going to unhealthy marriages to appease who???? I'm happy for those that found their partners and have their families, but it wasn't in my cards to do that in my 20s and early 30s....and I am glad I didn't, because those relationships would have ended in divorce already and I and my potential 2-3 kids would have been a mess. Perhaps later when more men mature and do the work to make a lasting relationship and strong head of household. Anyway, kudos to Dr. Bryant and the other women who obeyed their gut on relationships, controlled their body's from unplanned pregnancies and are still open to the possibility to a loving, mutual marriage partnership and family. You're right, the ratio of men to women is 1:1. We shouldn't be struggling to get a man to marry. But we are because a lot of them are terrible. Most married women are miserable and have reduced their standards to zero to keep the marriage going. They're being cheated on and they're not receiving any help in their households. Is not that women do not want to marry. There are just not enough good men to marry…….by a huge proportion. So it's either you lower your standards and get married or stay single for the rest of your life.
When I was a younger black man, I tried to do things as society taught. Get married before having kids. Only having kids if you can afford them. Go to church as a family. I did all of that in my 20's and 30's and still ended up divorced and paying child support for one child who at this point does not seem interested in having children or getting married. Now in my 50's I realize that the women and men with multiple kids and even multiple fathers or mothers are winning because they end up with grandchildren, great grand children etc, Those legacies are so much more valuable than a successful marriage, or nice house, or nice car. We are still eating from the "Tree of Knowledge". We know so much that we forget that God said, "Be Fruitful and Multiply".

I have a partner, but I'm happy I have assets of my own to fall back on. It seems we always talk about women who focused on career first, especially when their dating life didn’t pan out. But I know plenty of women who put dating first, didn't finish school, and ended up baby mommas or divorced and broke with kids, and not many good job prospects. Why is one better than the other?

@donharris8846 I don't know about you but me and my grown children are buying my husband an investment property for his b day this year, I helped him m,aintain our credit we had no money issues ever and I helped him get his bachelor's degree in IT while I worked. Yeah he sees the same old me everyday and I can't answer for him, but he don't complain and tells me it was the best decision to get married when we did. I was 29 and him 23 year's old. I made him my best friend. No diseases or different sex partners which WE like. Other ppl are different to each his own. I think he benefitted mostly from marriage but I don't mind. I'll help him take over the world if that's what he wants to do.

I've been in long-term relationships throughout schooling and nearly proposed to (I ended the relationship thankfully) and there's nothing I regret about obtaining my degrees, career acumen, and financial investments. I do not regret my refusal to cave to societal norms of marriage and bringing children into this world just to be societal burdens because I knew those relationships were not healthy and neither was I mentally and spiritually. There are plenty of folks who are unwell and/or not doing the healing hooking up, bringing children into the world and going to unhealthy marriages to appease who????
I'm happy for those that found their partners and have their families, but it wasn't in my cards to do that in my 20s and early 30s....and I am glad I didn't, because those relationships would have ended in divorce already and I and my potential 2-3 kids would have been a mess.
Perhaps later when more men mature and do the work to make a lasting relationship and strong head of household.
Anyway, kudos to Dr. Bryant and the other women who obeyed their gut on relationships, controlled their body's from unplanned pregnancies and are still open to the possibility to a loving, mutual marriage partnership and family. (Fyi women having children successfully and safely in the late 30-40's is quite common, esp outside America)

You're right, the ratio of men to women is 1:1. We shouldn't be struggling to get a man to marry. But we are because a lot of them are terrible. Most married women are miserable and have reduced their standards to zero to keep the marriage going. They're being cheated on and they're not receiving any help in their households. Is not that women do not want to marry. There are just not enough good men to marry…….by a huge proportion. So it's either you lower your standards and get married or stay single for the rest of your life.
When I was a younger black man, I tried to do things as society taught. Get married before having kids. Only having kids if you can afford them. Go to church as a family. I did all of that in my 20's and 30's and still ended up divorced and paying child support for one child who at this point does not seem interested in having children or getting married. Now in my 50's I realize that the women and men with multiple kids and even multiple fathers or mothers are winning because they end up with grandchildren, great grand children etc, Those legacies are so much more valuable than a successful marriage, or nice house, or nice car. We are still eating from the "Tree of Knowledge". We know so much that we forget that God said, "Be Fruitful and Multiply".

I know married women more lonely than anyone. As for kids everyone doesn’t want to be a mother. If you look at statistics black some don’t benefit from marriage. Many of them are burned out getting cheated on and are the breadwinners. Single childless women live longer and happier.
