- Black Ops Declassified was supposed to be the first true CoD experience on the go. It kind of is, in the same way American cheese is kind of cheese. Kacey explores this forgotten chapter in the CoD series and plays its campaign, spec ops and multiplayer-- even if it means a stomachache.

Very late update: I received an email from someone I have verified to have worked for Nihilistic during the production of Burning Skies & Declassified. I was correct about basically everything I deduced about the dev cycle. It was actually even worse than I expected. They asked to remain anonymous & I don't want to risk outing them by providing more details without clearing it with them... but it reinforces my sympathy for Nihilistic & its employees.

@@Aerack I don't think it did have camos at all actually. It was VERY barebones. Still played it a lot because I thought the gameplay wasn't bad.
I actually never tried a whole lot of the multiplayer on Declassified! Mostly campaign. What’d you think of it?
i played a good bit also something about it just felt satisfying
@@etl1234 it was like BO1, but SIGNIFICANTLY scaled back. Only six maps with only four game modes, and every match was capped at 4 vs 4 no matter what game mode. The maps were also rehashes of BO1 maps for the most part (for example, one map is literally Nuketown but cut in half, called “Nukehouse”). The gunplay to me was pretty solid though, and a lot of the guns from BO1 were in the game, so there was gun variety at the very least.
It also helped that everyone else sucked at the game for some reason, so every lobby I got into I was stomping everyone into the ground. That’s probably why I liked the game so much, lmao
This actually looks pretty impressive for what it is, especially knowing the timeline it was developed in now.

Practically every game in the vita library is fascinating some of the games were ambitious but ultimately failures, some were undiscovered gems. I’ve tried to collect as many vita games as I possibly can.

I loved the game. It was so simple, many glitches and has a lot of good guns and maps. I wish ps vita would make a comeback and add many new games

It was more stable than Resistance: Burning Skies, and was servicable as an online FPS for the system, at least until Killzone: Mercenary came and blew it out of the water (and became one of the system's best games, as well as become the best game in that franchise).
Do a video on Killzone: Mercenary, as well as other Vita titles as well. Wipeout 2048 (along with its HD and HD Fury DLCs) would also be a perfect place to start on Vita reviews.
I still play COD Declassified MP on an (somewhat) regular basis, i agree that since all those years there are still quite a lot of people playing it (in Europe at least), at almost every time of the day i can search for a MP game and i'll find it
And as you said in your video, even after seeing all the flaws of the game, the poor singleplayer campaign, the shitty hostile mode, the MP really is a great thing to play, since i was 7 (cod 4 release) i was dying to see a COD port to PSP, now we (sort of) have it, and i just can't say how much i appreciate being able to play COD MP when i'm at my lunch pause at work
No zombies really ruined this for me.
Honestly, I wouldn't have minded this game if the aim acceleration wasn't so bad. I get that the Vita's tiny thumbsticks don't have much room for precision, but the acceleration in particular is so bad that I can't stand playing the game
I remember those ads for Black Ops on Vita. Even back then I thought that looked horrible.
This could have an amazing game if Sony cared about PSvita and Activison cared about the game.

Killzone Mercenary killer this on all levels, gameplay, controls , story and multiplayer but I’m guilty of putting over 30 hours into this lmao
Honestly, the Vita was best for me for its easy access to PSP games, and some fairly rare ones at that. Seriously, I adore my Vita, but Persona 4 Golden and Snake Eater are probably the only Vita originals I actually have downloaded, and they're both ports. The rest of my library is stuff from the PSP that I never had access to, since I didn't own one, and honestly, I love it for that.

Besides that, the controls make me feel nauseous almost immediately with the input delay etc, how did you deal with that? Its a shame as your video really made me want to give this one a try at last, but at the minute I feel sick almost immediately!

I just got this today in the mail and as someone who enjoyed black ops on the ds, black ops declassified is pretty good, but what I don’t understand is how I can have black ops zombies on my iPhone but not on a vita, hell I even had world at war zombies on my iPhone 4… my only gripe with it but besides that 7/10 imo

Not gonna lie, I don't disagree with every criticism, but when my dad smashed my Xbox 360, the following Xmas I got a Vita and between Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, PO and PW, and then Black Ops Declassified, I really made the most of it. But while I enjoyed my Vita to death, the Vita had some infamous issues, namely just deciding not to charge when you plug it in, lack of storage and this super frustrating touch screen glitch where the slight majority of games would be hampered due to the software not properly aligning with the hardware (God of War was by far the worst offender). As sad as it is though, games like MGS PW, Killzone Mercenary and BOD were so much fun and so much better because those were the only, and I mean this, the only three games I had aside from Mortal Kombat 9 and Injustice (that didn't use the touch screen I don't think) that did not suffer this nearly game breaking software failure.
The story was weak but intriguing at parts, the campaign pretty fun, survival was a nice addition with the absence of zombies and multiplayer was actually active, functional and FUN.
I am in the minority, having played all the COD DS games (minus COD2) and the Vita game and having enjoyed them, but back then, with parents like mine, I had a want for those experiences because I almost never had the next gen, hell, the current gen, thing. When friends had DSi, I had DS Lite, when they all had PS3s and Xbox 360s, I had 3DS and Wii, when the Xbox One got started, I had the Xbox 360, and I let my school work suffer and it got smashed, so back to square one all I had was mobile ports of old games, and then I had a Vita, and not until I was a working adult did I have current gen, fully functioning, expensive, up to date PC hardware. So understand, please, that to someone who wasn't necessarily poor, but rather forcibly restricted from these things for most of my childhood life, you learn to appreciate the work put into them and you can more easily overlook any flaws or negative influence so long as they're fun. And boy, any console I had, any game I had, I made the most of it and had a great time.

Black Ops: Declassified as a good quality port
It sucks that this game suffers on account if Activision being Activision and rushing the game. If given even a full year, it easily could have used the IDTech engine and brought over a better COD game that’s better optimized and with more content. Still, it’s good for what it is and I wish more games could have been made.
I’m also surprised they made Declassified its own thing, they could have easily ported Black Ops 2 and Ghosts over to the system including Zombies and would have made good money too. The only difficult thing would have been porting their fork of IDtech over to the ARM A9 CPU and the mobile GPU, but the Vita is still around the power level of the 360/PS3 in many regards
Even though PSP lost to the DS in sales, the PSP is still better overall in performance.
I’ll at least honor their efforts by playing the multiplayer for myself.

I really do feel like that's the fault of this game's development timeframe though. This system can handle the entirety of NFSMW2012's open world when the developers give it the proper care.

BO3 port was insane... was like playing cod on PC 1080p with downscaling on to below 720p resolution... was literally pixelated EVERYTHING, pixels... when was the last time we saw pixels? PS2?... they should’ve just lowered textures, effects not the whole game and it’s value -_- anyone who says BO3 port was fine is a moron, they shouldn’t have released it. Period.

Game could have been so good. The multiplayer was rlly fun but with it's small amount of maps that were tiny in size, it didnt have a lot of replayability. The campaign was like 30 min long and had no story. Maybe a zombies mode could have made it better too, but the main problem was that the game only had 6 months of development.

I remember playing this game back in 2013 reaching prestige master lmao. I actually still have the cartridge of the game. But imo Killzone Mercenary was just so much better to play.

Have you considered checking out Killzone: Mercenary? It's basically the only FPS on Vita that wasn't a disappointment, with a full campaign and multiplayer suite, and the best graphics on the system.

I remember I always wanted a vita just to play this game back when I was really into CoD. I never did it though, is it worth picking the system up now?
not really. i did the same thing and it just wasn't playable to my standards as the sticks and stuff felt weird compared to a controller which led to it not feeling like it's console counterpart
It is if you want to play some PS1 and PSP games as well. The store still has a good selection of games (particularly the Persona games) Physical Vita games can go for high prices though.
it is absolutely worth it if you are planning to also hack it, you can basically turn the vita into almost whatever you want thanks to the hacking community

Getting a Vita just for COD? No.
In general? Sure.
I mainly use mine as a PSP Pro with the occasional Vita game here and there like Persona or Gravity Rush. The PSP playback on a modded system is AMAZING. So much better than anything of the PSP models.
To me it's worth it just as a PSP system alone, the Vita stuff might as well be a bonus. Not to mention you can play most of the PS1 library as well.

As long as the Switch port is close to the console version, I'd take COD on the Switch than COD Mobile anyday.

For sure I doubt the switch wouldn't be running the newer titles like MW2019 and etc at all. Having BO1 with proper resurrected servers and such would be nice for the switch.

Honestly as everyone has said over the years, PSVITA was ahead of its time
So was PSP, Sony Xperia Play etc.... I played a lot on all of them and enjoyed them in their prime time, so did many of my friends, but I know that they didn't take off the way they could have. PSVITA could honestly have been released yesterday with todays best smartphone specs and still be ahead of its time in some way, times are always changing.

Ignore the CoD subreddit, it’s full of people who repeat the same rhetoric of ‘x’ game is over/underrated, have a heart attack if you like any Treyarch CoD after BO2 and have a superiority complex because they’ve been playing since 2008.

When it came to shooters it felt like the Vita took a huge step back when compared to the PSP. The Syphon Filters, Socom FTBs, Resistance Retribution were so much better than any shooter the Vita had to offer.
Killzone Mercenary and Unit 13 were better than any shooter I played on PSP

It has surprisingly big cult following on the Vita. I see it quite often being recommended for the system.
It sucks too, handheld cod games (NOT COD MOBILE) would be really awesome. Imagine playing zombies while on a car ride...

I remember this game fondly. I wanted to buy a PSVita, and the bundle that game with this game was CHEAPER than just buying a Vita.
Even technically being given money to play it, I felt I was ripped off.

Dont trust me don't do it to yourself. Spawn killing is presnt in multiplayer..... low frame drops as well. Its shit 1 hour campaign was a slap to the face. Its bad as he says it is. Play cod mobile instead or killzone on the vita you'll thank me.
I remember having to choose between this or Killzone: Mercenary. I chose killzone and i didn't regret it, that game was fun and very gorgeous compared to this

I still play this if your lucky get a full lobby of 8 but ive seen a couple cheaters and i checked by stabbing them a couple times sucks but that old cod and a i side note weird this is the only black ops with no zombies
