  • Hello and welcome again, todays video focuses on undervolting with PBO2 Tuner to lower temps and increase performance on a 5800X3D!
    I learned how to do this from Github, and they have their own tutorial on how to set it all up, heres the link: github.com/PrimeO7/How-to-und...
    I used an app called OCCT for stress testing in this video, the link to download OCCT is here: www.ocbase.com/

    If you want to save the limits in the task scheduler just type those values after your core clock offset values. Lowering the limits let me keep same performance but reduced cpu temp by 20 C

      @@Beefy-Tech I reduced my PPT, TDC, EDC limits this is what helped reduce my temps. 8:54 in the arguments, you type in your curve values for each core. That is 8 values. Then you type in your PPT, TDC, EDC and then 0 (0 means don't change any of the other fields like MaxBoost Temp LImit, FIT Scalar)
      So for example mine looks like this
      -30 -30 -30 -30 -30 -30 -30 -30 95 80 100 0
      PPT = 95W, TDC = 80A, EDC = 100A
      By reducing my PPT, TDC, EDC limits I saw almost 20C drop while gaming, no performance drop and actually hitting the 4,450 Mhz (before I woudl only hit 4,100 Mhz)

    The 5800X3d is a good binned part because of its Voltage limitation due to its V-Cache , most 5800X3D will work with - 30 which is already the maximum , higher Numbers have no effect at the Curve Optimiser , i would choose this as the starting point and only if there are Problems i would reduce the value , my 5800X3D works since months without issues at -30

      It depends what bin you get. You have really bad bins that cool really hard even with proper undervolting. I had the bad luck of getting one which can barely be cooled with an aio 360mm - under cpu intestive workloads and cinebench on stock temps rise to 90°C+, with pbo 85-86° with fan rpm's close to 2k. Optimum tech recently bough a second which was also a bad bin - very hard to cool compared to his first cpu.

    Tip for 5800X3D owners, if you're still getting toasty temps, you can combine an offset in the BIOS (offset of the VCORE, so FE -50mvtt) with PBO.
    Seeing as the absolute clockfrequency isn't very high, -30 usually isn't enough to drop the temps. So I use a -50mvtt offset, then set -15 PBO2. Dropped temps from 75 to 65 and im hitting the same 4450mhz.

    One thing I think you forgot to mention is when using manual PBO offset, just like with ryzen master on the 5000/7000 series, is you need to validate clocks using HWInfo or even OCCT to check “effective clocks” match your shown clock speeds.
    Too extreme of a undervolt with CO, will result in some or all cores not actually running at the clocks it thinks it is. OCCT and HWINFO have this reporting tool for this very reason.
    This is important because while the system may be stable, you’re losing performance potentially in cores that need more voltage to actually properly boost under load.
    It’s extremely rare that all core -25 or -30 is actually stable in the case, usually you see your best performing cores wanting more voltage to actually boost high enough in low core utilization scenarios.

    • @Beefy-Tech
      @Beefy-Tech  Год назад +1

      I used hardware info to verify stability in OCCT bit I forgot to mention it here not realizing that it could show differently in OCCT. I have run -30 and -25 and I yet to have a crash myself, but I imagine its not like that for most people. I am hopeful that if anyone has issues with it they send me a comment so I can tell them exactly of this 😆👍

      The 5800x3d caps at 4.45ghz tho so the undervolt doesn't scale past your frequency cap.

      An undervolt won't be able to damage your system or lock it. It may lead to a crash due to instability, but it won't harm your pc and you can just adjust your undervolt if it were to happen. If you hit 90c in cinebench then def give the undervolt a try, it'll help in games by 2-3 degrees and in benchmarks by up to 5 degrees if you use both offset and power limits.

      @@Beefy-Tech Cool, very good to know. I know that it's probably nothing to do with thermal paste or the way the CPU is seated because temps are fine during idle. (ca. 32-40C depending on ambient temperature), and around 60-70 in gaming, which for this CPU on air cooling is pretty normal. Granted C23 is a synthetic benchmark it's unusual for anything else to push the cores that hard, I assume. Also the fact that the CPU doesn't really downclock that much during a full 10-minute pass must hopefully mean that it's alright, (knock on wood).

      @@iseeu-fp9po I mean people like to overcomplicate things. For this CPU undervolting has massive benefits, where it nearly behaves as an overclock (because it increases performance) and it decreases temperatures. There's no downside to doing it other than spending some time making sure it's stable, and you know, once you invest into a computer it's best to enjoy the maximum performance it can offer after all!

    With the pbo2 app after testing and everything is stable to keep the cpu at those settings do you just leave the app on and minimize or can you exit and close it ? Thanks for the tutorial!

      If you do the apply at startup with task scheduler it's essentially minimized constantly, so yes u can just minimize it after you are done to make sure it doesn't unapply the stuff, although it shouldn't unapply it even if you close it entirely.

    Hey Beefy. Just wondering if RAM oc is worth doing while running the 5800x3D or is it worth oc RAM with this chip? With my b550 I was only able to get minimal gains. Mind you I only increased frequency and voltage, no subtimings, Corsair Dominator 3200 cl16. Have you tried or had luck oc RAM together with 5800x3D? Cheers mate.

    • @Beefy-Tech

      It's minimal gains. I went from a 3600mhz cl20 untuned kit to a 3800 cl14 fully tuned kit and gained like 10 fps in warzone 1 back when I did the upgrade. 5800x3d doesn't benefit as much from fancy ram, but it still helps it a bit.

      What ram faster ram helps with is the 1% low and .1% lows when gaming. The x3d cache helps this a lot but tighter tuned ram will increase the lows even more. You wont find much improvements in average fps but gameplay will be improved considerably as the lows are better. Best ram for the x3D will be 3600-3800 c14 with tight sub timings and 4000 c14-16 for 1:1 fclk if you are able to achieve it.

    temp goes 55C on gaming and cinebench r23 multicore 10min run goes max 72C temp.

    When running tests without pbo I have higher average mhz but with pbo -20/-25 average is 3850 mhz, -15 average 4000mhz, average mhz is something to take in considerations or i should look for better performance/fps only in lower voltage and temperature?

      It means past-15mv it's not helping frequency and performance anymore because it needs the extra voltage to boost higher, so stick with-15 for best performance.

No crashes, no BSODs, just the fans from the coolers randomly stops while set manually at extreme. Is this considered a system instability? Any ideas? Thanks!

      I personally don't have much experience with that, but my assumption is that it uses more power then available when set to Max RPM's, or a connector loses connection for a short time. Very unlikely I'll actually be right, but I'm trying to throw some guesses out there lol.
      Make sure everything is plugged in thoughouly, and update to latest bios drivers and chipset drivers if you haven't already.
