Hey everyone. I really wanted to include more CPUs in this one but as mentioned I don't own the ones I wanted to test against.
I'm thinking of continuing the gaming shootout with a 5800X3D, 5700X, 7600X and on Intel perhaps the 13600k and 12600k?
Thoughts / suggestions?
It would be awesome to see, especially for those trying to balance productivity vs gaming performance. Looking forward to the follow-up!
Maybe include one older ryzen 5 as this might be a dope upgrade from like a 3400G or a 1600/2600/3600...?
Yes, please do that! Especially with the 5700X.
For people thatwant to upgrade maybe compare it to 3600 or older too.
Maybe show 2nd or 3rd Ryzen 5/7 in there too and Intel 8700k? I say 8700k because I think, like with 4770/90k it's still relevant.

Why do i love this add so much?

I work @ B&H Photo in their computer department. We still get a lot of customers coming in looking to buy AM4 cpu's, specifically 5000-series. Most of these customers are upgrading their 2000 & 3000 cpu's.
Amazing you can go from a 1600 to a 5600 X3D on the same platform. The uplift is seriously insane.
It's still limited by the motherboard chipset though.
Yes you need an x370. But more comon is going from b450 boards and an 2600/2700 to a 5800x3d. Imo since you are upgrading, you should get hte best cpu you mb supports.
That's literally what I did, 1600 to 5600x3d. No Am5 for me, thank you.
Yeah, but in my case I already have a 3600, 5600, would be pointless, if I stay AM4, the 5700x or 3d variant, is the logical choice, 7600 is 200 bucks on Amazon, maybe I'll upgrade here soon have a 6700xt, I'm fine for now
To me the 5600x3d falls into 2 camps.
1) Upgrade an older AM4 platform to its final form
2) Create a nice last gen platform.
It would have been nice if you could have included numbers from the 5600 non x3d, and a processor from the start of the AM4 platform. Showing the x3d boost and an upgrade scenario.
final form? that's 5800x3D
Depends on the game if 3D cache helps or not either way more cache the better. I know for me with my 5800x3D vs my 3950x 16 core I get & average 30-50 plus fps. And I do not get why you ask he things he did not do in the test he is not the only only one testing these cpus. Look around & use the wisdom you have before you google & youtube search. Sometimes you have to put in your own work & research. But for some reason some get lazy & only rely on others to do all the work for them out of lazy ness. 🤣
Give your sister a kick-ass PC by giving a purpose to that old AM4 motherboard you have colecting dust.

Currently rocking a 1600AF on the AM4 platform. The 5600X3D would be a massive upgrade for me, and I've got a MicroCenter less than 2 hours away. I may jut go for this one.

I still have 1600(non AF) paired with rtx 3060Ti. Been struggling running Total War Rome 2 and Arma 3 in High settings most probably coz of the cpu. Had to underclock my gpu and reduce my graphics settings
had the same cpu till not long ago on a 5600x now night and day difference go for it
@@Jack-xx3qgI had 2200G with RX 5600XT and the cpu bottlenecks really hard, you really need to update that cpu.
There is one about 90 mins away for me.
As always you come through right when I need you. Thanks Jay & Phil, great info and content!
Great video saw a lot of people grabbing it this morning at Westmont IL Microcenter. One girl even mention your video. I grabbed one for an older system that had a 2600 still.
I think for most people the potential CPU upgrade path is a lot less important than you might think it is. I've built a ton of systems for people and in general they do not upgrade past the initial purchase except maybe slotting in a new GPU or adding more storage. The vast majority of people do not perform major upgrades every couple years. They buy a good system, and use it until it's really getting too old and slow. That's often longer gaps in-between than any socket lasts.
Yeah, the average npc just buys then dumps their system like most people do cars. It's more so enthusiasts or people that keep up with technology that care about upgrading/maintenance. It's sad because people used to care a lot more about their things but now people can't even be bothered to support right to repair. Also, people are used to 2 year Intel cycles so they're not used to upgrading the cpu in general.
Yep that’s how I feel. My 2018 rig showing it’s age. Going to upgrade the AM4 CPU and GPU and ride that out. The other components still have some life, 750W PSU, 32gb b die ram, NVMe SSD. Once that’s over, it’s time to sell and do a full rebuild. But I wouldn’t expect that for another 5 years or so
i feel like amd has been different though. look how long am4 lasted. and now Intel might be using lga 1700 socket for another cpu, which would make that 3 cpus. Times feel different because z690 mobo and 13th gen is actually still a great combo, unlike for instance 9900k on z370. I think we will start to see smaller and smaller generational leaps in performance with cpus and them using sockets for a little longer now, with more refreshes.
thats so dumb too cause upgrading a gpu is super expensive and give you maybe 20 or 30 more fps while slotting in a new cpu will double ur fps giving u a 150-200+ fps increase for a fraction of the cost of a new gpu
@@strongislandxThey are also hitting the limits on current silicone capability and production sizes. We kept getting smaller and better but for a long time but it seems they have hit a bit of a wall with it for some reason. But I agree with you that we will see this a bit more, i ran a 4 series intel for years and got a refresh 4770k haswell chip for it and manages to strech that pcs life into the 20 series gpu era. Its worth while for enthusiasts pc users for sure. Micro center needs to just take your pc upgrade it and give it back for the avg user tho.
Good catch on the BIOS needing to be current with 5800x3D. Not quite out of box experience, but not a big issue if you are going to be upgrading a platform in place.
Tbh if you've been on AM4 you should've had that bios update installed a long time ago. However, Microcenter always a sticker on the motherboard bios with the latest bios written on it.
Can confirm. Upgraded my mobo to an X570 for my 3600G and now have switched to the 5800x3d and they BIOS update was a need to run it
Yup! And don't just let your motherboard's utility pick the "newest" BIOS.
I did that when I upgraded from a 3600X to the 5800X3D. The new CPU wouldn't boost at all. I dug deeper and my motherboard BIOS update utility upgraded my BIOS to vF35, but the X3D support required vF37. Manually updating the BIOS fixed the issue.
Great video mate. Man we've had some serious life from the AM4 platform! Wish I could grab one of these in Australia....
This is perfect for drop in upgrade, or people who keep their build for 5 years more without upgrade. This works with b350, especially since this cpu not really need high vrm setup, it's quite great for these cases.
I think if you're already on AM4, this could be a good upgrade, especially coming from a 3000 series CPU. If you're buying new, I think its worth going with the new platform and maybe getting another upgrade out of it before needing to adopt another platform again.
You should have also compared this 5600X3D against the i5-12600K, a CPU Micro-Center also briefly priced at $229 following its launch (I bought at that price) in 2021.
I paid $180 for a 12700k via a microcenter bundle.
My thoughts exactly. I have the 12600k and love it. Microcenter has it now for $197.98
it spanks all but the 13900k from intel in gaming. so no need.
@@sadssadsa5944 depends on game/resolution. Not to mention for multitasking while gaming and/or productivity Intel will curbstomp am4 x3d.
@@sadssadsa5944 wrong. it only wins in like 2 niche titles. aside from those couple it get beat handily by intel and the other x3d chips. why tf would you comment when you obviously either watched one game benchmark or cherry picked? Also when paired with a mid tier gpu it gets beats by the 7600. People buying this chip arent pairing it with a 7900xtx, 4080 or 4090 or anything close to these cards. This will be purchased by people who cant afford a higher end gpu.
I think the really interesting opportunity for this is future upgradability. My am4 homelab is looking REAL good right now.
i had r5 3600 and 1660S and had to make the decision going full upgrade to am 5 or not , so i choose the 5800x3d and 6750XT and can still use my x570 and my 32gb of ram.
allthough its still old gen it was a huge upgrade 4 me and i saved me alot of money
This looks like the perfect AM4 upgrade. If building new I think you go with AM5.
Went with AM4 and skipping AM5 maybe skip AM6 too.
The only reason to jump to AM5 would be if your jumping to it from a 7700k, and have it on sale.
It’s still a hard sell for me. The prices still looked high on AM5 parts with only small gains and driver/firmware still in its infancy.
I'm gonna go with AM4 in maybe a year or so just to piss off @heathdunn1999 - still hanging onto FM2 for now
It's true. I went with am5 and it is worth every penny. Am5 is just getting started and I won't lose money by selling my parts for second hand. Going for am4 now will be more expensive in the long run.
good positive content - nice surprises are always nice and the industry needs all the good news it can get right now
Thanks, Jay and crew!
For all it's issues, AM4 has been an absolute beast of a platform for AMD. 4 generations (seeing as there wasn't a proper retail 4000 series) of CPU on a single socket and you can still see previous gen CPUs on AM4 trading blows with AM5 in certain workloads. It was a bit of a kick in the teeth when my 2950x was beaten out by the 3000 series in performance and then socket X399 never got another generation of Threadripper. 20/20 hindsight, bit of a bad investment there. Though I guess I could have gone to the 2990wx for the extra cores. My x570 system is still holding it's own, so much so I will probably wait another generation or 2 before upgrading it. Pity the 5600x3d is microcenter exclusive, we don't have microcenter in my country, would be fun for some overclocking and benchmarking.
ddr5 right now isnt worth the upgrade, atleast for gaming. I barely see any differences
You can't really oc the X3D chips. A lot of people tried it but the cpu will die on day or another.
"For all it's issues"...what issues does AM4 have, exactly? I've never had overheating, BIOS corruptions, or bad motherboards (sure, they're out there, but they have been for every generation of every CPU socket).
@@abrahamdelatorre3246well you can get ddr5 for like under $100 now
And AM5 is crap on a stick.
The one thing you missed out Jayz IS MOST people that will be interested in the 5600X3D will already be on AM4 with something like a B3/B450 or X3/X470 Motherboard and at that point it's just a simple drop in replacement for an older AM4 CPU which makes for a compelling argument over a full system upgrade especially for those waiting on the 2nd series of AM5
plus most people won't be rocking this with a 4090 but it is possible the next gen rtx5070 or whatever it is in a few years would likely be a good match and people who already have the am4 platform are now getting epic millage out of it.
Those same people "probably" sit on either deadend motherboards with deadend CPUs or on 3600+ CPUs. And for those same people - it's better to invest those spare ~250$ into a GPU to get the performance boost. Like, literally, if you are sitting on some 3060 and you have an opportunity to liquidate it for some 250$ while adding 250$ on top for 4070(or even 3080\ti used) - that's a MUCH bigger improvement.
The FPS that Jay shows are with 4090 or otherwise "for-test-purposes" card. You won't get that much FPS if you improve 1600 for 5600xDDD on some 3060. Well, perhaps, you'll get like 10 fps, faster loading times, higher 1% lows, but that's it. Not that getting a 3080 for 1600 would be a great idea, but... 3080 you can put into the new system, whereas 5600xDDD would be forever stuck in AM4.
The only more or less sensible upgrade that I could imagine would be some B450\2600 kid who had his parents buy the PC, but over the years he got a job and earned his first grand or something. He could somewhat make it work. But anything less than B450 is a dead motherboard(X370 owners probably have either upgraded already or aren't running 1600) and anything better than 2600 is a perfectly capable CPU that doesn't need to be upgraded. After all - this is all just 6 cores "purely for gaming" scenario. And 6 cores is shit. And gaming isn't the end all be all. When I bought my 5600 - it was like 150$, and that's already a much better bang for the buck.
I have a 7900xtx, ganna grab this 5600x3D or 5800x3D, am5 isn't worth it
@@WirxawTanev 🖐️ I have an x370 with a 1600 lol. I will be upgrading to a 5800x3d
@@BaldKiwi117 With Zen 5 and Meteor Lake coming this year.... good luck. I hope that ~350$ investment is going to be a meaningful one, "unlike" a building something like a 13500+b660 on discount(for same 350$) or even just spending a bit more, but getting a proper new system with DDR5.
I should point out that 5800xDDD was released 1.5 years ago, back then it may have been competitive with still expensive Zen 4 and Alder\Raptor.
But you know better.
Was nice to drop in on your stream last night! 😊
A new MicroCenter location is opening nearby and have been waiting to upgrade my 1700. The 5600X3D seems like a great drop in option for me and given its limited availability should be a great collectors option.
I think this is a great CPU for someone like my friend that wants to upgrade just a bit for starfield coming out. He's got a 3600 and 1060 I think and this would let him put a bit more into the GPU then upgrade platforms in another year or two
Looking at it for my needs, general browsing and light gaming, I'm honestly happy with my 1600AF, i just need a better GPU (1060 3gb OC), but looking to upgrade as I feel it's time price wise, I can get, as Jayz says, the R5 5700X for $189.00 a roughly $40.00 savings over the performance I doubt I'd ever see. That could go towards RAM upgrade or added as i said to a better GPU
Thank you Jay! Was seriously giving the 5600x3d and on my way to the local Microcenter, as a replacement for my 5600x but, with this being the end of the AM4 era I'll wait and build an AM5 machine.
Thanks jay i was hoping for some thermal readings
Would be a very interesting cpu upgrade for those who are still on a Ryzen 2000 or 3000 series cpu with gaming as the main use case.

I build a new system every 5-6 years. From that standpoint, this looks like a really good deal. If I was buying, I would want this.

I'll be giving him my current rig next year and building a new system then. I get my money out of every system.
Define "this". The internal dialog going on in your head needs to have context if you're going to make a comment you expect people to read. There were two CPUs in this video being compared, so when you say the word "this", it is an absolute irrelevant statement.
Can't wait for the jump to AM6 from AM4, love this resurgence in computing tech, Thanks AMD!

If the 5600X3D was available world-wide I’d 100% be doing a drop in upgrade from my 1700
Previously had a 1700. Literally anything you can get above it will be a tangeable upgrade.
@@Brian-dd2df Can confirm, I had a 1600x and it was honestly kind of buggy, apparently that was an issue with just the 1600x at the time. It got better with updates, but I eventually got a 3600 and yeah, It's a massive upgrade. I then went 5800x and now have a 5800x3d that just arrived today. Don't even have it in my system yet. Upgrading to even ryzen 3 is a big upgrade over gen 1
Just do what everyone has done for the last year and drop in a 5800x3d. Those 2 cores are going to come in handy in the next few years. And you will see a MASSIVE improvement from that 1700.
Very happy with my 5700X upgrade from my 1700X. Everything was noticeably faster.
Dude, I just got a 5600x like two months ago, and I'd get the 3D version in a heartbeat if it were available here at msrp.
I just got a 5800X3D and called it a day. If you are going to do a last hurrah for AM4, you may as well go for the top end. Im waiting for AM5 board prices to improve and for them to have truely capable DDR5 CPUs. The current gen on AM5 are paying the price as first adopters. Likely going to stick with my 5800X3D till next gen super-cache CPUs.
Budget shoppers doing the one small upgrade they can barely squeak out of their tight monthly budget do feel those price differences. If the 5600x3D is the best a person can afford it's a truly great CPU for the money.
I wish you would have shown the scores for the 58003d. This video still tells me its probably the cpu is should get tho! Great vid thanks!
love the content and channel thx jay!
My last build was an older platform, but that was due to limitations on the supply. I normally would build on the newer platform so that there is an easier upgrade path.
When I first built my computer in 2019 I did a mish-mash of parts to get me something better than what I had at a decent price. I did a first gen Ryzen 1700 and a B450 board with 16 GB of Team Group TForce 3200 RGB ram. But when I finally upgraded my cpu again to a 3700X the B450 board I had really didn't like it even with the latest bios version at the time. So I ended up replacing that with my current MSI X570 board. Then everything else has slowly been changed out and replaced a piece at a time over the years since it was built to get what I currently have. :)
Great video Jay. I bought my AM4 platform last year with a 5600x cpu. I’ve decided since I upgraded from 16gb to 32 gb ram that the only thing I will be upgrading down the line is the GPU. I know the 7600 and the 4060 are nobody’s favorites this year and I’m happy with my 6600. I can see getting a 6800xt down the line but that would be my next logical move
definitely wait I went for AM5 X670 7950x the lot...never worked properly dismantled it switched to intel that goes to 95°C with +100w on the cpu but w o r k s which is pretty important....current AM5 is beta testing of the worst case
Same boat. Staying with the 6600 since it's the only gpu that's near us prices in my country. Maybe there'll be more rdna 3 releases this year.
I feel that GPU manufacturers lost their direction this launch. Nvidia is so out of touch that it’s comical last gen outperforms their current gen with exception of the two flag ships but it takes a real enthusiast / mental case to drop the kind of money or more than a nice system that can play new titles and come in about $1250 US. AMD while not as gouging has three next gen cards in July? Definitely asleep at the wheel AMD
@@fredEVOIX Just like what Jay said. If you don't like to tinker with anything. When it comes to a first gen new platform. Then don't get it. If I recall, I think the X99 and X299 at first had problems. Why normal people should wait at least a year or so after said platform has been out.

Im running 5600x and a 3080ti (gaming only). Ive been on the fence between upgrading to the 5800x3d or to go to a newer platform. The 5600x3d is compelling for the price point if I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money for a but of a bump in gaming. I won't be near a Microcenter any time soon so unless I come up on a 5800x3d for a great price I'll likely just upgrade the whole rig sometime down the line.
Depending on the Games you play, the 5800X3D can make a significant to huge difference compared to the 5600X especially with a powerful card like a 3080Ti (im on a 3080 12Gig myself with a 5800X3D @1440p) and saves you the platform change for a while longer.

For someone thats rocked a 300 or 400 series board for years - I'd grab this last hurrah to push out the next upgrade (preferably no bundle to squeeze every last cent out what you already got). But for a new build, I'm not thinking AM4 is the way to go.

I actually ended up recently upgrading from a 3700x to a 5900x, as the 5900x has dropped all the way down to $299. I use my system for working from home, so productivity matters to some extent, though I'm not doing as much photo or video editing as I used to. Once I'm clocked out, I use my system for 1440p gaming using an RTX 3080 12GB. I read and watched tons of reviews comparing the 5800x3D and the 5900x and nearly all of them focused on 1080p gaming, not 1440p. I didnt finally find some reviews that measured gaming performance for 1440p and 4k. At 1440p, the 5900x and 5800x3D are pretty much neck and neck, trading blows depending on the specific game. Overall, I made the decision to buy what I considered the more balanced all-around CPU. I wish more reviews did a larger spread of resolutions to represent the balance and load changes between the CPU and GPU. I understand why 1080p testing is important for a gaming CPU, but when comparing CPU-vs-CPU from a balance standpoint or a value proposition, I feel like there's an argument to be made for the relevance of 1440p.
the 5600X3D looks really good if you already have an AM4 system and want to do a last upgrade on it to see how long it goes; same I did by getting a 5800X3D, and his big brother is a monster too that also trades blows with the non 3D 7000 series, turns out skipping to AM6 may even be possible
From the benchmarks I've seen 5600x3D is only 3-5% slower then 5800x3D, pretty nuts when one is $100 more, ganna grab one soon.
Get off that cloud homeboy, the 5800x3d doesnt even trade blows with a properly tuned 7600. This youtuber is testing a stock 7600 on stock timings probably without even using XMP.
I've tested a 7600 at 5.625ghz on all cores, ram at 6400 CL28 1-1 2167 fclk and I was walking the 5800x3d on every single game. Keep in mind the 5800x3d was also overclocked to 4.650ghz with a 104.5 BCLK overclock running 3800CL13. My cinebench r23 scores witht he 7600 were 16350 multi core and 2050 single core.
could u do a benchmark comparison?@@juice7661
Just upgraded my system to a 7600, did think about getting an AM4 CPU due to price but agree with Jay, thinking about longevity of my new system
I'll be buying the bundle tomorrow. I usually don't build a system with an upgrade path in mind. Seem like a waste upgrading. Then you have unused parts laying around, or you have to try to sell used parts. It's easier to sell the whole system and build new. So buying an end of life part is fine with me. When I'm ready to move on to a newer system I'll sell the old one and start from scratch.
Wish I could get the 5600x3d in the UK because it certainly gives more life to the AM4 lifespan imo

Even if it was an older generation cpu that out-performed the x3d chip. If there's something better and cheaper, that would be another route I'd take. Or even if it had slightly less performance, I'd still buy that. I bought an RX 6650 xt even though I wanted the 6700 xt.
5800x3d tuned is just too good, keeping it in my rig even for next gpu series in the future, its so strong at gaming and power efficient (with pbo2 -30, undervolted etc)
7600 non x beats it in efficiency and being cheaper, though it's still a great AM4 upgrade if you already have one.
Same undervolt and I'm seeing at full load 74w, max 80C after a hour of R23 on a H150i, and a constant 4,449MHz boost clock. When browsing the web and watching YT, it will only use a max of 13w. All that is measured via Ryzen Master. I can't wait to see how undervolting the 5600X3D works out.
@@deathtoinfidelsdeusvult2184 its not better for gaming, and its sensitive to ram speed, x3d is just better, and yes i wanted to keep am4, remember i am not talking about stock 5800x3d
Find out if your MB supports Kombo Strike and you can undervolt it in the bios. You won't have to reundervolting it with pbo2 every time you reboot your pc anymore.
@@sirlurksalot4454 i am an ln2 overclocker, it doesn't, i automated pbo2tuner and its hidden, i forgot about it
This wasn't released to make reviewers happy, it was released to not have to toss perfectly good silicon in the recycler. The fact that Microcenter is the only retailer says it all, they really don't have enough to go worldwide. For those still on the last gen AM4 system (the vast majority) this is a good thing. I already reserved one for my work computer and will use it well.
pretty sure he went over this in the video
Honestly, recycling the silicon makes sense business wise, and I like it environmentally wise.
If I were looking at the choice, I'd go with the newer one. It's not really for the upgrade path though. I'm just not willing to give up the productivity.
I have a 5800X and RX 6800XT was interested in how those to compared. I was surprised at the comparison in gaming. If I had the money and need, I would look at the 5600x3d. My backup computer has a 5700x with a 3080. Not sure how it shakes up, but I have no issues with using an older platform as long as it works well. Granted, I am on year 2 my 8-10 year build pattern. Build a system way above what you need, in 3-4 years. You might have to turn down settings to high or so unless you MUST play the latest. But that is my plans.
AM4 still has a lot of life left in it. If you're building a pc on a budget an AM4 build is still the way to go imo.
i think this might be the last am4 cpu, hopefully am5 prices will drop
@@GeneralS1mba we'll see more variants come out for AM4 based on zen 3, like the Ryzen 7 5700F that was spotted recently as AMD tries to get rid of their leftover zen 3 stock.
a small note btw: the am5 platform has been seriously unstable, and had a few problems with the voltages as well. Not to mention the slower boot times (which isn't a big concern but would've been neat if it was fast)
am4 platform is definitely more stable. There is also no rush to upgrade you can always save money by upgrading later on. It's not like if you upgrade now you'll spend less money later on when you get the next AM5 CPU, if anything you'll save more money by waiting! (ddr5 and mobos prices will drop).
Got my 5600X3D yesterday at Microcenter and installed it. Very happy with it. It should keep relevant my AM4 platform for at least a few years. I decided for it when my minisforum mini PC (Intel 11th gen 8 core + RTX 3070 + 32 gigs of 3200 RAM) couldn't run Starfield. There are still many of these in stock at the Microcenter I went to yesterday.
Currently running a 3600 on B450 I'd be very happy to drop a 5600x3d into my existing AM4 system. If I was building new I'd have to do some total build cost comparisons to see what gives me more budget for the GPU. Upgrade path on same-socket has generally not been something I've taken advantage of even when building for it initially so I put less emphasis on that ability.
This is a tough one. If I had to buy a CPU right now, I would go with the 5600X3D because I have AM4 already. However, I am going to ride out the 3600 and 1660ti combo as long as I can.
Pretty balanced combo honestly.
I pair a 4090 with a 5800x3D. Six cores vs eight isn't going to bad for gaming in current day but you still find some pretty good sales on the 5800x3D.
Seems worth it to me. If building with this CPU, I probably wouldn't replace the build for 5+ years so this seems like a great bang-for-buck gaming option, especially with the bundle. Also would be a great option for a drop in replacement for an older AM4 CPU if you plan to make your platform last as long as possible (for gaming).
It's great to see that AM4 is still alive. For all those years we have seen a massive performance uplift. I hope AM5 will have same great history! Meanwhile I will stick with my 5800X3D for a few years.
I would definitely go with the AM5. It would cost an extra hundred bucks or so for the newer ram and mobo, but the performance gains and how much money you will save in say 5 years will definitely make up for it.
There are no performance gains if your GPU is in middle class territory like RX 5700 XT - RX 6800.
And the savings as it is right now are only when you choose AM4. There is still the cheaper upgrade option to a 5800 X3D instead of a 7700 X. And when the time has come the AM5 platform has gotten cheaper and there will be new chipsets available (in 18+ months).
But who knows ... maybe in 3 years a Ryzen 5800x/ 5800 X3D is still a solid CPU combined with mid-tear GPUs.
@@hassosigbjoernson5738 i'm talking about this exact moment in time as the CPU is out tomorrow.
There are minor performance gains in productivity over the 5600x3d is all I was mentioning really there.
What I meany by saving money long term has to do with not having to buy everythjng again. Theoretically, when upgrading, I wouldn't need a new motherboard or ram as I already have them. Yes they would be cheaper in 5 years but not cheap enough to make up for buying an entire am4 and am5 board as well as the ddr4 and ddr5 ram instead of just the am5/ddr5 now.
5500x3d and 5700x3d coming soon
You were right about the 5700x3d:О
The travel costs to the nearest microcenter is such that if i had an existing am4 build i would drop in an 5800x3d, or if i were doing a new build i would do a am5 one. The travel costs are such that either option would be better unless i am traveling to a microcenter region for other purposes as well.
I'm gonna say, I usually hate sponsors in videos, but you guys make your I Fix It sponsor so fun it actually makes me want to buy it XD
I wonder if theyd make a 7600x3d
Undoubtedly if they had defect 5800x3d they will also have defect 7800X3D.
*Can we take a moment to appreciate how much work he puts into these videos for us 😍*
This video is pointless for most of us.
@@darkmetal825 YES!
@@alien4422yet here you are
He put in so little work dude. He benched 2 cpus in a handful of tests. Couldnt even put 1% lows or make a graph.
Plan on heading to the new INDY store tomorrow to maybe pick up one of these and a MOBO!
Leaving a LIKE just for that commercial. So so good.
That seems like an incredible drop in for an older AM4 like a 3600X and possibly even a 5600X if you can sell it at a decent price. With the $330 bundle that's even a decent option for a mid-range new build. You might not need it paired with a cheaper GPU, but you'll probably be good for the next gpu to go in your system as well.
I would’ve teally loved a b-roll of the yanked together testbenches you (wanted?) built for these talks inbetween the benchmarks 😅
My current rig: X570 TAICHI, 3900X, 6900XT, 32GB TRIDENT Z ROYAL(16GB x 2), 2x SAMSUNG 980 1TB M.2, air cooled w/ NH-D15 CHROMAX.BLK, LIAN LI O11D XL-S. So far so good, yet I've got my eye on a 5800X 3D.
That ifixit commercial is still my favorite commercial out there.
As a someone currently on an AM4 build (Ryzen 5 3600). I had planned to go to the 7 X3D around the end of the year. But now I am thinking I need to figure out how to make this work in my budget. As far as I can tell I will be able to sit on this MB and chip for 3-5 years at this point while GPUs catch-up. If I was building new, I would probably go AM5 for the 5-10 year longevity, but this chip makes me think I can squeeze a lot of life out of this AM4 system.
The most epic ad ever! IFIXIIIIIITT!
When I made my build in 2020. The amd 5000x series cpu I wanted was out of stock, so I just got a 3959x, thinking I'll upgrade later. It's been running with my 1070 for the past 6 years until recently and still going strong. Still haven't reached a bottleneck.
I'm picking up a 5600X3D bundle tomorrow at 10am to replace the 1700 and the B350 board that I'm currently on. the CPU is indeed overkill for my GPU (only 3060Ti) but it leaves my system open for one more GPU upgrade in a couple of years (skipping the current generation of GPUs). excited for the extra m.2 slot and massive gaming performance increase. I used to care more about productivity but now I have a work PC for that stuff, so I just want to run games better on my personal tower.
I live 20 minutes from Cambridge store. So glad I didn’t platform upgrade. This will help hold me over 2 years
Thankfully I have microcenter 20 mins away. Picked one up to upgrade from a 3600x. I'm Sssoo in love with this CPU . I got 50% uplift on my 7900xt at least.
The question of RMA keeps coming up. When it comes to larger distributors of products that have a measurable failure rate, they will often keep a similar number available for warranty purposes until they no longer have any retail stock left. At that point, they will keep a percentage over time (like 1 year after it leaves the shelves they will drop down to 800 available for warranty instead of 1,000). This is why you sometimes see a surge of products that are easily two years old all hit the shelves at the same time. Those are warranty backups they have determined they will no longer need and can now sell.
As of Monday 8/7/23 there were 493 left at Microcenter Tustin.
The only issue is it only actually clocks to 4350 and doesn't seem to stay at that. But most modern CPUs play games about the same, just the 3dvcache can benefit a ton in certain games, so might as well just do this build and not worry about CPUs for awhile. I just put this together today and I like it.
What are you using the measure the % GPU bound in each game? Only curious because I’d be really curious to run some tests myself to see what is most worth my money to upgrade.
I am running ryzen 5 1600 on b350 platform since late 2017, and 5800x3d is very tempting to squeeze the last out of that b350 ddr4 platform (for 2-4 years even)
I went with a R5 7600 AM5 build simply for future upgradesspent a hefty amount but! Worth it in the long run.
Considering the sales on the 5800X3D and that they're tax-free from certain stores, it doesn't even make sense to buy one. Hooray, you saved $20.
They lowered the bundle price to 299.99. Crazy price. I couldn't pass it up. Performance has been great. I replaced an old 6th gen i5. Also bought a used 6900xt from a buddy to go with it.
same, replaced my x99 platform
actually, Jay, the MicroCenter cpu bundles show up on Amazon, and have for YEARS
love it that you noticed the 'continuing' AM4 support moving on into 2023. Looks like a win win win win win win for the consumer. 2017 - 2023, so far.
Honestly it would be perfect for a couch build I was considering
Some 7600s are very solid performers. I got lucky with mine, with PBO it literally works as 7600X and is already absolutely stable for 9 months with CO@-30 and undervolted SOC to 1.17V for C30 6000MTs RAM resulting in a very manageable temperatures well bellow the 95°C. If somebody is wondering between 5600X3D and 7600, it is a no brainer... I actually don't know what kind of upgrade the 5600X3D could be... I doubt that the 300fps on Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 1080p medium could inspire somebody...
Thanks. I don't think I could even get one new, no Microcenter in my state until 2024. Unless I go on a road trip, Will pick something else for next build, likely am5.
It's funny seeing TeamGroup getting more recognition. I was an early adopter WAY before any youtuber was using them. I sold my Corsair vengeance used kit 16gb 3200 for MORE than I got my T-Force 32gb 3600 kit brand new. I've had them for a couple years now and they have been amazing. I dug into them back then and found out they actually make a lot of other companies ram kits, they were just selling under their own brand now. Which is why I made the switch. They are amazing for the price.
Currently running a Strix x570e with a 3800x and a 2070 super. Just started putting together stuff for a new AM5 build and am really considering slapping this into my current build with my 4070ti to hold me over until the new build is finished.
Why go backwards? anything higher than a 5800X or the X3D. 5900X or 5950X
Well, with all the issues of availability and build quality for the new CPU's and GPU's right now, I opted to upgrade to a 6800XT and a 5950X 6 weeks ago, which will be good for a long time.
I probably will try and get a 5600x3d tomorrow after work. I have a 5600x running a 3080ti. This just adds one more upgrade path before i will need to upgrade everythong.
Was looking forward to this new cpu for my Am4 system only to realize they only will sell this in Microcentre and they dont ship overseas, so me being in NZ will probably never have a chance to get one at msrp and only chance to get one will be from scalpers on ebay selling them at 5x the price
For me there are 1 and a half scenarios which I see it's worth it to buy 5600X3D. 1) If your budget is low and simply can't afford to future proof by going AM5 and, 1.5) prices of AM5 currently. Give AM5 a couple of years to go down in price and it'll be worth it over AM4.
Personally, if you can afford the extra $100+ish then go AM5. On another personal note, I love that AMD is doing this instead of scrapping parts that didn't make a higher-tier cut.
