Granny square: How to start a new round

- The quickest and easiest way to start a new round when crocheting granny squares: in the corner. You would often see people going from round to round in granny squares in the middle of a side. Using the corners for changing rounds works much better and shows less. I'm showing it in this step by step video. The same technique works also in multicolor granny squares.

An elderly neighbor took time to teach me granny squares back in the early 70s when I was only 9 years old. She'd taught me to turn my work when adding a round/row and until I saw your video, for the most part I did it the way she taught me. I must admit YOUR WAY of advancing to the next round/row felt very awkward "at first" but after I got used to it I absolutely LOVE (and prefer) YOUR METHOD! ❤️❤️❤️ It's consistent and I always know where my rows/rounds start and stop which also makes it easier to distinguish front from back. Now I just need to search your tutorials for the best way to connect my squares and select the best border to complete my first baby blanket Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful skills!❤️🙂
Happy to hear you found this way working well for you after the beginning! Enjoy making the baby blanket! 💙
I can knit all day long, but I'm still at a loss when it comes to crocheting lol I'm determined this will be the year I learn. Thank you for this video very helpful
You'll get the hang of it too! For a granny square, this video is more complete than the one you watched, it's more for those who already know the basic way. ruclips.net/video/t2BcmB2scZs/видео.html
Thank you ❤ I really appreciate it!
I have been crocheting for over 20 years now, and this was the first pattern I was taught by my Grammy. She would be so happy to learn this trick to not have to turn your work, especially once it's a giant blanket or so you have all Right Sides for a garment piece!!! Thank you so much for sharing and for getting straight to the point, very clear and concise!
Thank you, great to hear it was useful :)
I don’t get it! What do you do with the extra stitch on the end when you come around? Sorry I’m a newbie 🤓
There is no extra stitch. You have two groups in each corner anyway. In the first corner you make the first group in the beginning of the round and the second one at the end of the round. If I understood the question right!
Do u have granny sq in graph drawing teaching people cannot follow by phone
Unfortunately not, I mainly do videos. Hope you have found one!
Thank you so much ❤
I am having issue with corners not perfect. Ugh
What is wrong with the corners?
@@TuulaMaariaNo idea at all why but the corners are curved vs square it's very odd and frustrating. Help! I am crocheting with cotton crochet thread (making tiny earring), but it occurs with no pill yarn also.
@@lynng3421 You definitely always make 2 groups of double crochets in each corner?

Have you watched my basic tutorial?
@@TuulaMaaria I better rewatch your video. Two groups of DC so 6 stitches
