[Chorus]
Captain Jack will get you high tonight
And take you to your special island
Captain Jack will get you by tonight
Just a little push, and you'll be smiling
Oh, yeah yeah
Billy Joel is one of those rare artists who you can understand every line he sings and does them live in the same key. Brilliant .
Peter Green I could not have said it better. He gets me to play the ivory 👍🤟🏻
He's changed keys of a lot of songs since the early 2000s (iirc). But yes, he is a great singer/songwriter.
Actually, he's very well known for changing the keys in his songs to a lower register. Consequently, he now sounds like a portable tape player whose batteries are dying.
@@daveidmarx8296 still sounds better than you probably ever did pal
I mean he's old. When he was in his prime he was good as singer as literally anybody. Have you guys heard some of the peak live recordings like Carnegie 77, Nassau 77, greenvale 77. It's addicting stuff how talented he was at that point
The best Billy Joel deep cut.
God Bless America God Bless Billy JoeL 😮.
Have always loved this dystopian classic.. Liberty DeVitto's drumming on the 'Songs in the Attic ' version is well worth a listen too.. Great song
people don't talk about Liberty's greatness during this time. truly magic.
Had the privilege and honor of blowing my last 5k from painting houses and cutting lawns to promote this concert at Palmer Auditorium at Connecticut College in New London CT Dec 6, 1976. We saw the greatness then and it continues today. God Bless all
The intro with Mexican connection 😍
Hidden gem.
One of my favorite Billy Joel songs !
Man, I was just watching this (probably the 5th time, or more)... And when the Twin Towers showed I totally welled-up with tears!!
The WTC was 3 years old at the time.
It lived to be 28.
In 13 days, it will have been gone for 20 years.
Damn, I'm old.
So amazing that we love our city so much that these iconic structures occupy emotional space in our lives. I remember visiting the WTC with my sister soon after its construction. Such a hopeful audacious complex, just as NYC was headed into dark times.
It’s shocking and enthralling how current this song feels all these years later. I’m so glad Broadway opens up again this fall.
This is the song that made me cry during the pandemic. This is the song that makes NYers get up off the floor when life knocks us down. Nope, we're not dead yet. Thanks for reminding us, Billy! 🌅🎶🎵🎶🌆
@@girlfromthebronxbywayofelb7288
No you’re not dead….but New York is dead as a door nail. It’s turned into a dystopian nightmare.
You sound jealous. NYC is an amazing place. Sorry that you don't get it. Be nice. 🎶🎵🎶
@@girlfromthebronxbywayofelb7288
Not jealous…realistic. Everyone is fleeing the murder, assaults, crime, car jackings and government corruption. They condone the policies that have created this problem. New York is like living in a high security prison….all the criminals have no accountability. Great City?…not according to the masses that jumped that sinking ship.
@@girlfromthebronxbywayofelb7288Grew up on LI listening to this song. If this wasn't a premonition of 911, I don't know ow what is.
Genius legend.. same key till now. his voice thicker by the age but still in tune and strong. Better Band now. 👌👍👍❤❤
Disagree about the band
Great video,,, we'll done,,, so happy I got to see BILLY 2018 ,,, Love from DUBLIN,!!!
My word...SO much talent. I saw this tour in Phoenix, Arizona. Just cannot get enough of Billy who remains to be a brilliant talent to this day.
Imagine being at this concert listening to this song with a song title like that.
i was born on May 9 1968... and i,am so proud...
If I could prefer one BJ song over all the others, I think this would be the one! It's a magnificent piece of music! And I love this stage version.. beautiful long fade-out. ♪♫.......................................................................♪♫ ♡ ♥
I completely agree.
Brilliant and this performance in Connecticut is simply fantastic
BJ in full effect - wow
My thoughts exactly. This is really probably the best, most thoughtful performance I've ever seen of his. You can actually feel the chaotic energy of a loud concert here.
Living and Rocking Legend! 💕🙌
Billy!!
この曲、大好き❤
Love his Songs an his Voice so much....
Legend❤
HERMOSO FANTÁSTICO 😊😊😊
He was a few years off.....seems like it's happening in 2020. Crazy times.....
BILL!!!!

Billy Talento Piano MAN
American treasure.
That video quality though is amazing
Amazingly shitty? I mean 360p is shitty, is it not?
@@daveidmarx8296 Djeez, you're only looking at the technicalities. I thought so as well before you pointed out it's 360p.
@@JayDeeIsMyName But 360p is pretty far from amazing, is it not? I mean, you certainly can't chalk it up to age as looking at some of the Beatles videos from the 1960s, one finds some hi-def clips such as Hello Goodbye or the blu-ray of the Help movie, which truly does look "amazing". This?? Not so much...
@@daveidmarx8296 That's shot on film. This is shot on video. People know this footage mainly from analogue vhs- or betamax-tapes complete with distortions. Aside from the compressed way of publishing, this does look amazing for the people who only know the former state of the footage.
I love you guys
THIS rare live performance from Connecticut should've been the live DVD included on My Lives.
When music was musical.
Friking genius the notes the tones the new wave in the way he tried them out and succeeded in Berkeley he would be a god here in Boston 👍Berkeley
We’ve seen the lights go out on Broadway.
We’ve seen the Empire State laid low.
We’ve seen the mighty skyline fall.
We’ve seen the ruins at our feet.
We’ve seen the boats waiting at The Battery.

Is 0:00 to 0:17 a real song or is he improvising? Either way, effortless genius...
snippet of Mexican Connection....an instrumental on the Streetlife Serenade album.
I miss the way instrumentals used to really be popular. Has anyone ever heard of "classical gas"? That really was a big hit. You can see Billy Joel coming out of that tradition with Mexican Connection, Root Beer Rag, Handball, etc.

premonition of 9/11/01.
Ah, 9/11... when the Mafia really did take over Mexico and Manhattan was sank at sea, amirite? Dude, what the actual fuck?
Not really, New York was having a bit of a crisis in the 70s, not like he invented the idea of something bad happening to ny
In 1975 NYC was having major financial difficulties and Gerald Ford at first refused any federal aid to save the city from bankruptcy, resulting in the famous headline from the New York Times, "FORD TO CITY DROP DEAD" But I agree, it's ironic Billy Joel's lyrics came true in a way over 30 years later.
@@samglover4923 it wasn't just New York that was having financial trouble, for the most part through much of the 70s the nation's economy suffered recession and stagflation caused by a number of factors, including high costs of LBJ's great society, the Vietnam War, Nixon taking us off the gold standard, the 1973 & '79 energy crises.
The beginning of the wealth gap we suffer with today, lack of support for unions and workers (thanks Reagan), shipping jobs overseas, the beginning of the Rust Belt.
. Perhaps not in 2017.....but real soon. It's coming sooner than anyone knows.
