How does it compare to newer games? I just got into finally playing it after buying a huge stack of CDs for 3 bucks at my local goodwill last year, which included the game and a few of the expansions.
JRSanchez93 you can tell sims 2 was a passionate project for all the people who worked on it. it was very advanced for its time and its timeless. the newer games are mostly cash grabs.
God I MISS the way in Sims 2 when special events were going on they would all automatically run to the event. In Sims 4 if my sim is having a wedding, blowing out birthday candles, no one cares!!! God I miss Sims 2
Sims 2 University was better IMO because they gave you 3 different schools to choose from. With the Sims 3 University only giving you one school, after you've been to University a few times it can get old quick. I used to love playing the Sims 2 University. Had they kept the multiple school option with the Sims 3, it would be better overall. Someone should tell EA options are always better when it comes to the Sims.
If there is one expansion where TS3 totally lost to TS2, it was University Life. I find the TS3 version to be boring and strenous. The terms are too short, the social groups too vague, the classes too few. There's only one university world, which you can't even enjoy fully since you'll be too busy studying or securing your social status. I also hated that annoying mascot who would come over with the green bucket, whatever you call that. And TS2 used to give these wacky scholarships for being good at pool or dancing or even just BEING, and that sense of humour is seriously lacking in TS3 onwards. In fact, I'm reinstalling my whole Sims 2 collection as we speak. As much as I love TS3, there is something about the second installment that is just classic.
Totally agree! Plus, you could kind of cheat through uni in TS2 if you also had Seasons, by setting the uni seasons to be autumn all year round. Then the students would learn faster all the time - it only took one class and one term paper to reach A+ status! It left much more time for socialising and such.
I never had a problem socialising and even throwing parties in Sims 3 university. It really isn't hard to keep your grades up if you actually engage and do well in the classes themselves. I rarely have to do extra studying. Plus, like the person above mentions its bigger and there's far more for sims to do when they're not studying.
One thing I really miss is Cinematics. Sims 3 just feels kinda impersonal without them. Also one thing that really pissed me off about this expansion was that you'd still get bills even in college where you couldn't make any money, so the segment was unplayeable without cheating or using green energy.
you could definitely make money in college by selling objects or playing an instrument in public... like all the things you can do without having a job to survive XD
I still love TS2 so much. Way more than TS3 or 4. I have installed it on every PC I've ever owned, including my new one (it took some fiddling, but it runs great!) The only thing that was better in TS3 was consistent aging throughout the neighbourhood, and even that didn't work correctly and needed Twallan to fix it. So many thousands of hours poured into this game...
Sims 2> Sims 3 have not played the other ones. 😐 I have all the stuff packs and expansions for 2. Just bought 3 a few weeks ago and all I have is the sims 3 university life expansion. Next one I am buying is sims 3 seasons.
If you have everything for TS2, you really don't need TS3 or its expansions (and definitely not TS4, which is basically TS2 anyway). You have to engage in rotational play if you want a consistent neighbourhood, but it's still the one I play the most and, in my opinion, the one with the most flexibility for styles of play.
It's no wonder there's a "Can't afford pizza? Sell a window!" meme. Sims is just crazy like that and that's why I love it. I use nraas mover for free real estate in sims 3 cause I find poor households monotonous. I hope sims 4 can make even a broke ass household feel worth playing. It really shouldn't just be a grind of waiting for days to pass to become a doctor :(
In sims 2 university I stole the mini fridge and microwave from the dorms rec room. Also stole a computer. Sims 3 university life I stole the computer and replaced the crap bed with the much lover Murphy bed
Haha that's why I love The Sims as well! I didn't mind the grind of TS3 though - in fact, one of the first mods I got for TS2 was to stop them instantly getting to Level 8 in their chosen career after graduating college. It made it all too easy. That was also one of the reasons I never completed a Legacy; once my families had too much money (around Gen 4 or 5), there was no longer any challenge and it was boring.
The Sims 2 always was more fun for me. I played it when I was quite young every day after school and I thought it was the bomb!!! I like sims 3 too but sims 2 is, for me, so nostalgic and charming and it has these little details that I really love, like the male voices. they're really cute. or the beards for the teens. or the babies. or so many other things
***** I wasn't,its just it was kinda giving me nostalgia from the sims 2 cause the sims 4 is kinda turning into it,since theres not much sliders, you have no create a style….and also I don't care about create a style.
Did anyone else send their werewolf sim (Night Life or Pets expansion required) to the university and infect most sims on campus? When my sim finally got her house she still had people pissed at her; kicking over her trash can and stealing her newspapers...
Forgot to mention I had my sim apologize to most newly-infected Werewolves profusely. They *ALWAYS* accepted apologies until relationships were patched up, but it's evident that I missed a few. The first newspaper thief literally stole it behind her back as she walked to her new house.
Sims 3 University was so much better but the time management aspect of it was a nightmare, even more than real life university life. You had to be minute perfect if you wanted to succeed at classes and have time to do anything else.
here I am, waiting for my sims 4 to update and felt nostalgic for sims 2 graphics and gameplay. I love your narrations 😂 “what are you eating, cup-o-noodle?? your kids just went off to college and you guys are eating college food here” lmao. I MISS THIS. best sims imo nothing compares to the sims 2. i wish they had kept the graphics and still have all the mods from sims 4
I actually prefer elements of this university pack (and overall) better than the Sims 3 version. Like Greek Houses - I miss Greek Houses in the way they exist here. As well as the secret society - that was fun. And just the whole Sims 2 College System generally.
I always got rid of the cook and the cooks equipment and used the money to transform that whole area into something cooler. I made the students take turns cooking and if they needed more money I'd use the cheat and just pretend that one of the students had a rich parent who gave them money every week. I also had the majors made easier mod so that I could download custom majors. University, Free time, Apartment life and Seasons were my favorite sims 2 EPs. I hope the sims 4 comes out with their own University EP. Yes I know it will be disappointing and extremely lacking but I still want the Uni experience for the sims 4.
I like TS3 better than TS2 overall but the University experience was best in TS2. I remember things like joining a secret society in the University which I thought was so cool. Also things in the game like impressing the headmaster to get a child sim into a private school or getting engaged over diner at a restaurant. I guess some things were better in TS2 and some better in TS3, there is nothing better in TS4.
well, i might be biased because sims 4 was the first sims game i ever played but i'd say that the toddlers are pretty good, minus the fact that they didn't exist in the original basegame
Is it just me, or is there a cycle with the Sims games starting. The Sims 1 actually made Duke look like Duke, but here he looks like 20-year-old Duke. In The Sims 3, Duke looks like Duke, but The Sims 4 looks like it's going to be taking a far more stylized approach (actually looks comparably similar to The Sims 2 rather than The Sims 3 with the style). Am I just imagining things? Honestly, Duke just looks wrong in The Sims 2....
Duke in Sims 1 was a mod from 7 Deadly Sims that was made from "scratch" (They also made body&face sets of various wrestlers and bands) while the other two are recreations with CAS.
Awesome LGR, yu have me laughing at almost every video you make! Reviews, lists and plays videos, and you had me in stitches with that "turn on" joke... I had to rewatch it at least 5 times xD I'm a huge fan btw if you ever read this comment! :D You sir, are awesome!
I remember from my brief stint in college that people would come to class--TO CLASS--in their pajama pants. So, anyone who hasn't been yet, be warned: Pajama pants classmates are out there. It's not a good look. Don't be one of them.
Seriously, Lazy Gamer. I love watching your content. It's witty and very informative. Plus, your Duke impersonation is top notch. I can't wait for your Sim City review! Keep it up!
Awww The Sims 2 wasn't awful, but looking back at it it really reflects the technology of the time. I had a blast playing it but back when computers were slower those loading screens were awful to wait through. I haven't played in a while but I will agree The Sims 3 really made the series great. Seamless travel, a world that doesn't stop and is constantly evolving, etc. It really makes the world feel alive anymore...
I couldn't stop laughing at selling the college's property... but I can't wait for TS3 University... I saw how a lot of the stuff and features from the last Sims compilations are being brought back finally! Thanks for bringing back some Sim nostalgia, Phreakindee!
Please do more The Sims 2 reviews, I'm glad that you agree that it's better than The Sims 3 as well! Also I'm getting it in a few days time and this is the best way ever to get back into a game, especially with the humour!
I remember playing this addone when it came up, and it was my first The Sims personal expirience. Damn, i played for months i think, it was so much fun, and University itself was interesting somehow, i guess for same reason, i was in the hight school at the moment, mm... Good memories. Also, music in The University is amazing, some of songs at least, brings back memories of youth.. Wait, i'm still young!! Sweet. Nice video as always, love you!
I think out of all the time I've spent on The Sims 2 years ago back then, I only ever really sent one or two sims at most to university and took them through everything until they grew up to adults too! I do like that all these expansions come with neighbourhoods that allow you to pretty much make your own ones too, but you just have to be careful and get everything required to make it all work, or else your sims will end up stuck in some place you've made that doesn't help them get anything done at all haha!
My first sims 2 university memory is adopting a mailperson into my household, they had a ton of skills and money. They turned out to be my fav sims for quite a while.
Hi LGR. I enjoy all your videos, including the DOS game reviews, but I would like to see more reviews of contemporary games. I feel you are more trustworthy than traditional magazine and gaming site reviewers. Either way, keep up the good work!
so true D: watching this video I realized how far they've improved... i really love Sims 3 xD I remember loving the Sims 2 too, but now... omg... I would get bored :/ the open neighborhood is one of the coolest things for me...
The special events camera setting is what triggers those short movie clips. If it's grayed out, that means the game determined your graphics card can't handle them, but you can find videos of them here on RUclips.
I agree. There was barely any time for socializing or playing video games. Although you could've learned the skills first and then I remember you can research well ahead of the classes, so it can give you extra hours to chat with others in the dorms or just improve the sims skill-sets. I also remember I did a scale model of a real university were I live xD. I know I'm such a nerd, but such fun those days.
Did you have those lag spikes or was it the way the video rendered? I heard that to improve Sims 2 performance, is to use task manager and set the Sims 2 process to 1 core only.
Hey, that mode when you went in the taxi and you were able to scan around the town to choose where you want to go. Is that an older mode? I bought double deluxe rather than the main game only and I only got a pop up menu rather than a town to look through.
Clint, are you playing this on windows 7 and if so, how the heck did you manage to install any expansions?! I can only get the Sims 2 base game to install and then when I try to install an expansion pack, it just craps out when it patches.
Well actually, it's a series, LGR Plays. He's going to play all the Sims 2 expansions just like what he did for The Sims, so technically there's going to be a next "episode" for the following EP, but we're not sure when it's going to be released.
When I heard about Seasons I was so ecstatic that when it came out, though a great game, still didn't live up to the huge expectations. Now, the excitement died down when it came to University which I, like many other simmers, wanted from the start, and from seeing what's to come I think it's going to please me a lot more than seasons on the basis that the build up wasn't too exciting.
Ooooh, do tell! What's awesome about it?? And yeah, that's may be why I liked Teen so much. Youthful freedom and rebelliousness and some fun interactions for them without having to worry much about anything at that point.
lmao@swooshy hair dude that we all know that writes poems & when the cops broke in on eating mac n cheese "loudly"...as always, thanks for the laughs LGR! :)
oh i've haven't seen the sims 2 university. but i have seen the sims 3 university. i remember when tannah made this one household with 2 girls & 1 boy. and the brother & sister went to college. maybe one day, tannah can remake her household. plus: there is a code that can help you get more money for your sims households. type motherlode. that code will give you more money for your sim or sims.
Who else knew that Jayne was going to end up sleeping on the couch after LGR placed the counter piece next to her bed? I don't even think LGR noticed lol.
LGR, are you still working on The Sims 3 University Life? I was really hoping it'd be posted by now considering I find your reviews most helpful and also hilarious. You never bullshit us and I appreciate that. (:
I really miss the animations that sims 2 had. It really made you sympathise more with your sims.
Lim Gutar totally agree they had the best animations! Hands down.
How does it compare to newer games? I just got into finally playing it after buying a huge stack of CDs for 3 bucks at my local goodwill last year, which included the game and a few of the expansions.

@@JRSanchez93 just watch the video about the sims 2 details by onlyabidoang. The animation is quite detail, even the pizza had their own animation.

badgyrl310 they should do it on ts4
The university is large so sims 3 had only one
and you could make your own university, if you didn't like the others.
@tzuyuislifeu, it’s gonna be released on 11/15! I’m so excited. And I’m so happy then kept the multiple schools.

As someone who also plays The Sims 3 University, both packs from TS2 or TS3 are great with each of their own charms.
the fact that the sims 2 had more than one college to choose from one is fascinating.

so true D: watching this video I realized how far they've improved... i really love Sims 3 xD I remember loving the Sims 2 too, but now... omg... I would get bored :/ the open neighborhood is one of the coolest things for me...
7:15 On that glitch, I once saw a streaker run into an occupied room and neither sim EVER left.
Arcadia is playing an arcade game. LOL! I had so much fun with this expansion, that dorm was crazy! Let's hope that sims 3 university is this good.
Like the vibes of greek life a lot more in this than what we got in Sims 3...
Hey, that mode when you went in the taxi and you were able to scan around the town to choose where you want to go. Is that an older mode? I bought double deluxe rather than the main game only and I only got a pop up menu rather than a town to look through.
You made my day today even though I'm sick.
So much better than sims 3 University Life
I have that one and I just steal the dorms stuff so I don't need to buy it for my sims 😈
Favourite Expansion Pack of TS2.
lmao@swooshy hair dude that we all know that writes poems & when the cops broke in on eating mac n cheese "loudly"...as always, thanks for the laughs LGR! :)
oh i've haven't seen the sims 2 university. but i have seen the sims 3 university. i remember when tannah made this one household with 2 girls & 1 boy. and the brother & sister went to college. maybe one day, tannah can remake her household.
plus: there is a code that can help you get more money for your sims households. type motherlode. that code will give you more money for your sim or sims.
Loving these! please make more!
I really laughed too much while watching this video. Clint at his best.
7:10-7:15, 24:46-25:08 lol Sims 3 isn't the only Sims game with routing issues.
Who else knew that Jayne was going to end up sleeping on the couch after LGR placed the counter piece next to her bed? I don't even think LGR noticed lol.
On some of my machines, but here I was using a Das Keyboard Model S Pro.
7:38 "Hmm, yes, the floor here is made out of floor."
Man I wish I could play sims 2. Even if I could get a functional copy, my gaming laptop doesn't have a disk drive.
Sims 2 dorm sizes were more realistic than sims 3 in my opinion
"oh hey teacher don't mind me im just selling the fireplace"
LGR, are you still working on The Sims 3 University Life? I was really hoping it'd be posted by now considering I find your reviews most helpful and also hilarious. You never bullshit us and I appreciate that. (:
Lmao! This was great. You are way too funny. Thank you!
My favorite Sims expansion pack ever, along with Seasons.
u have the best narrative voice on earth!!!
Watching you play the sims 2 is such a crazy throwback! I didn't realize how awful it was in comparison to the sims 3, in general!
Been waiting on this for ages! Yay!
Wow, I must've been like 8 when i played this game, amazing how fast time passes
