I do but only because my introduction to sonic games was mega collection plus.
Lemme tell ya, this has such an underappreciated soundtrack. The game's meh but damn, do the tunes kick. BOTH soundtracks.
Yeah... that why the music gets ported to Sonic hacks so much, despite the hassle of porting them over (especially Volcano Valley, that song is great but if you're inexperienced, then don't even try to port it without a guide). Oh and the Saturn version has some nice tracks, I guess

The Saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast/Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island needs the director's cut treatment.
I think he said it would be harder to do as he didn't do the Saturn conversion and it might have used other tools he didn't have any more. Or if was programmed in C or something and he doesn't have the source code.
@@bangerbangerbro I wonder if it would even necessarily be that tough as if I remember correctly, the Saturn version runs *mostly* on the Genesis version's code under an interpretation layer that adds the new effects and points to the new assets.

@@bangerbangerbro Trrruueeee I forgot about the music. I guess like...implementing the control reworks, bug fixes, and improved handling of flickies shouldn't be too bad, but things involving the interpretation layer itself would be...about as hard as Saturn development typically is.
@@fisherdotogg I didn't know there was emulation going on. I thought it was just converted for saturn. Actually now I am not sure about what I said about the music. I think I was just thinking it would be harder to change things for some reason. Maybe I thought that the data track might end up a different size?

I played a shitload of Flicky so I really loved 3D Blast. I 100%'d DX when it first came out and it's been improved so much, it's almost impossible to stomach the original now. It's amazing.
I mean, it's the same game at its core so it's not going to sway any hearts that never liked it to begin with, but it's a very satisfying update for those that did.

Hey nice video! I recommend recording/exporting at a higher bitrate, as the video gets a bit crunchy at times, 15000/20000 kbps to record and export should be good for crisp quality at 1080p.

Love the password system he added. I can play on my Genesis mini and then continue my play session on my modded N3DSXL so easy this way... Great life hack for portability! Write down your save passwords and pick the game right where you left off.

I think _for a modern game_ it's obscure. It just sorta fell right off anyone's radar.
Probably because it was merely okay, instead of awful enough to talk about. You notice people almost never talk about Colors, the only good post-Knuckles pre-Mania game. Instead they talk about Generations, because they can CALL it the best and then discussion will happen as people are like 'yeah but...'

idk its interesting how Sonic 3D Blast gets to much negativity.. I played the game on original MegaDrive 2 and I loved it! Even completed full game, I was amazed with its graphics, even on later levels I loved those teleport tubes n stuff, I played and praised the creativity that was put in this game!
It’s a neat game, but people expected more, y’know. It’s fine for a side game, but at this point something resembling Sonic Adventure’s playstyle should’ve come out for the Saturn. Something like Sonic XTreme, but without the fisheye view levels and instead with only levels using the boss engine.
Unfortunately, Sega’s management was awful and ultimately killed Sonic’s rise to dominance. They were doing so well, too...
I'm clapping for Jon in my mind. :P
Seriously though this is a great project and to me it really shows how undermined TT's development skills were by being made to rush nearly all their projects (they made the Saturn port in SEVEN WEEKS). One thing I think is underrated about the Director's Cut is that it gives the game longevity, some actual post-game content and even appeases those who don't wanna just collect flickies with its time attack and level editor modes.
Really good video! I don’t want to say that the special stages you mentioned don’t work as you described. If you complete tails 1 then you’ll do knuckles 2 if you find knuckles next then. So you do end up getting to 5/6/7 as they do get to be the hardest stages you play

Imagine if those Directors Cut Changes with Saturn Graphics and special stages
I was hoping for this to be a mod for the Saturn version with new recompositions of the Genesis soundtrack.
Switchable soundtrack between versions and 3d pipe from Saturn might have sold me on this
There's also a version of the Director's Cut with different palettes and a Homing Attack, which is my favorite version of the game!

Technically, there is a way of patching the PC version so that it can use mods. So with a few improvement mods, you can make a Sonic R Director’s Cut in a way.

I had whatever that mega sonic collection was on the ps2 when i was young and i played so many games like spinball and bean machine. I think 3d blast was on it, and it was my absolute favorite one.

I remember staying up late one night back in 2013 just to beat this game with all the emeralds just so I can say that I 100% beat 3D Blast and won't ever have to play it again. I'm trash at isometric games (see Congo Bongo and Zaxxon) but I wanted to beat it because...well because its Sonic. I love Sonic

Only reason I want to re-play this game is for the *awesome Sega Saturn Choas Emerald Special Stages* which, to me, are the *best ever chaos emerald stages* in Sonic history.
People saying SplashDash is secretly LS Mark are wrong. LS Mark is IRISH. SplashDash here is obviously a true Scotsman! Listen for the consonants and vowels and how long he holds the vowels. Obviously it's of a rural Scottish accent. Especially when he says "game directory" like "gaeeme dirrrrectory." That's Scottish. Irish gamers would be all like "Sahnic threeDEE blahst is magically delicious jus' like me frosted Lucky Charms!" But that's just a hypothesis. A GAME Hypothesis. Thanks for reading!

I knew about Dr. Eggman's Mean Bean Machine before Sonic Mania. Same with this game. Mega Collection.
Soon it will be the fan game that's in the works
3D Blast is one of my favourites, contrary to popular opinion. But Mean Bean Machine was a blast(A 3D Blast! Not sorry) I always got to the final stage and got my ass whooped lmao, I haven't finished it to this day.
SplashDash is LS Mark, the video about the Alvin and the chipmunks scene in disaster movie is in this channel.

I wish someone would make a mod that would replace the special stages with the Saturn ones. There's still no way to play those cool saturn special stages unless you spend like $150 for a saturn and a version of this game that doesn't even have a save feature or level select
Just emulate the Saturn version.
This was the first game I ever played, I played it so I could impress my father but didn't know I was supposed to collect more animals.
The 3d blast directors cut is essentially the same as MCC PC, while it fixed the majority of issues with its original release, at the end of the day its still the same flawed foundation no matter how much polish you give it, but mad props for actually improving what you can.

I grew up playing Sonic 3d Blast on PC.
I like the music better on that version.
