    Really enjoy the longer videos. As a Canadian I’m proud of the iconic Viberg service boots and can’t wait to get my hands on the perfect pair. Personally, I feel a lot more comfortable buying from places like White’s that use your unique measurements to recommend a size instead of brannock, especially due to my feet being in between sizes. I’ve had cases where the recs were just wrong or where the manufacturer had a different rec than the seller, etc. I’d love it if more places would just look at my exact measurements and say what works best

    • @thevintagefuture6567
      @thevintagefuture6567  2 года назад +1

      Viberg is my favorite boot company! You Canadians have plenty to be proud of. My mom actually lived in Toronto for about a decade, so we visit relatives there sometimes. She’s a Canadian citizen n all, so I have a strong appreciation for you all…..Always good to hear from you!….And yeah, sizing can be such a huge pain in the butt. I suppose go through Bakers to get sized in Whites and then reverse engineer the sizing to mail other similar brands? Fortunately, if you have a Brannock measurement, I feel the info I have is fairly reliable. BUT I don’t know what it’s like to have a high volume foot, so my opinion is a bit incomplete in that regard.

But yeah, it’s sounding like 1035 is the most likely. The other Viberg lasts could be good too, just depends on how high your instep is; never hurts to try something…I don’t think 2030 would be a horrible fit, just sometimes not 10/10 cuz of that toe…Leo is in that anatomical toe family too, just like Barrie/1035/2040.

    Great video, thanks! I am keeping an eye out for a "dressy" / sleek Viberg Service Boot, that I could wear to the office. That pretty much excludes the 310 and 2040 lasts, right? I would have to decide (without being able to fit) if the 2030 or the 2020 would work best for me, but would you agree that these latter two lasts are the most "dressy"? Other than that, I have a detailed idea of what I would want, so now it is just a matter of waiting and hoping that 'my' configuration will be produced.
    One other question regarding dressy boots: would you agree that the Dainite sole is dressier / less bulky / more streamlined than the Ridgeway sole? (I am excluding a leather outsole, as this is not practical for me.)
    Thank you very much!

    • @thevintagefuture6567
      @thevintagefuture6567  2 года назад +1

      Hey! Glad you found the video helpful! Yes, 2030 and 2020 would be best for your usage. If 2030 fits your foot nicely, it is the most promising, as that’s their flagship, so they make many many models from it. Check their website, and I’m sure you’ll find something you like. The Halkett pattern (there’s 2020 and 2030 versions) is pretty dressy. But they have Service Boot patterns which are fairly dressy too, with binding and brogued cap toe etc….You could also check other companies like Crockett and Jones, Carmina, Carlos Santos, Joseph Cheaney etc. Those sorts of companies make very nice dressy sort of boots. In some ways, they will make it easier to find what you want than Viberg perhaps

    • @thevintagefuture6567
      @thevintagefuture6567  2 года назад

      I would say they are definitely on the heavier side, but not as heavy as Nicks and Whites. If you get a good fit, they won’t feel as heavy. Better a heavy boot that fits well than a slightly lighter boot that has a sloppy fit. Same difference as holding a heavy weight close to your chest vs in a sloppy backpack. Hey man. I have a question about the 2030 as it relates to the 2020. The way I understand it is the 2020 is D/B (ball/heel) whereas the 2030 is E/D. Setting aside the different shapes of the lasts would a D in the 2030 handle some of the issues in volume for the narrow footed people? What's your experience with the 2030 in D width?

    • @thevintagefuture6567
      @thevintagefuture6567  Год назад

      Hey! Your understanding of the two lasts is correct. They’re combo lasts. But I haven’t tried the 2030D personally. I have heard it’s narrower and thus less volume, but I can’t verify how it actually fits.

    • @BasteonSanton
      @BasteonSanton Год назад +2

      @thevintagefuture6567 Gotcha. It stands to reason that would be the case. In the end I don't know how much of a difference it would make. It seems like the 2030 just isn't a last for the low instep foot. I appreciate these videos too man. I'm gathering information for my first pair of SBs. I was already hedging against a poor fit with a half size down back up I could exchange for. At this point I may just move to the 2020 if my first shot isn't a hit so you saved me a lot of time.

    Everyone is telling me that Vibergs are UK sizing, and that is why you go down 1 size from your USA brannock. It seems your sizing recommendation is different. So you find ordering Vibergs in your brannock HTT is the right sizing? I’m 11.5D HTT and maybe 11.75 HTB. I normally buy 11 in boots, but sometimes need to go to 11.5 or even 12. My sneakers are all 12. Wasn’t sure if I should order a 310 boot in 10.5 like Viberg’s site suggests, or just do an 11 like I normally do.

    • @thevintagefuture6567
      @thevintagefuture6567  Год назад +1

      I normally go 1/2 down from Brannock. This just so happens to be same as my htt. 1 down works too. So, I’m 10htt and 10.5htb. Normally, you go off your longer length, but every person’s measurements are unique. So I wear size 10 Viberg usually, sometimes 9.5. This means I’m going 1/2 down or 1 down. And yes, 1 down coincides with the difference between US and UK sizing (where 10.5 US would be 9.5 UK/9.5Viberg). Sorry if that was confusing.

    How's your Dublin leather boots looking and feeling. I apologize because I don't remember who's the maker...possibly Viberg? I have an English Dublin leather wallet and belt from Ashland leather and I love it, probably my favorite leather. I think I'd like a boot in Dublin leather as well, but I'd like your opinion on this leather for a boot, service boot style is what I'm thinking.

    • @thevintagefuture6567

      Hey! I’ve had 4 boots in Dublin, but unfortunately I had to sell them all for various reasons. I’ve also tried two of its sister tannages, Essex and Cambridge. I will say, it is a strictly rugged leather, not dressy, as you probably know because of your wallet experience. That said, I can tell you Dublin is hands down one of my top 3 favorite leathers! I LOVE it! One unique feature is, it’s softer than most veg tan leathers but has more structure than most chrome tanned leathers. Fair warning: one thing many people don’t like about it (but I think this adds to the character) is the grain break can be somewhat course. For reference, go see my Viberg 2040 Dublin video. The vamp has some fairly noticeable creasing.

    • @davidmacy2252
      @davidmacy2252 2 года назад +1

      @@thevintagefuture6567 Thank you so much! I agree with you about it being strictly a more rugged leather which definitely creases more, but like you I find this appealing not undesirable. I've also been thinking about Essex, but I think I like the waxyness of the Dublins. I'll definitely check out your video on the boot in Dublin you suggested. One last question, other than Viberg, do you know of any other boot makers doing Dubkin leather on their boots?

      @@davidmacy2252 no problem! I don’t like Essex as much cuz it’s a bit more plain. But to each their own haha…Dublin comes and goes; there were a lot of supply issues because of the pandemic. Truman and Parkhurst run Dublin at least once a year, but you just have to get in at the right time. Other companies dabble in leathers like this, such as Oakstreet or Grant Stone, but it’s less common. One idea is to ask Bakers Shoe if they could get there hands on some for a Whites MTO boot.

      No. But they do rotate what they’re making, so 2020 isn’t necessarily part of every seasonal drop. They made a lot of 2020 last in 2021-22, but maybe will back off a bit for a while.

    • @thevintagefuture6567

      Whites and Alden both started using the same exact Barrie last from an old last maker like 100 years ago, then developed their own unique uses of that last separate from one another. So at this point, they have the same name, are very similar in many ways, but fit differently. Same origin, different end result.
