Dude! Thanks so so much man! I’m so glad it’s helpful. I’ve always been inspired and helped immensely by your super robust sizing videos, so I wanted to do one for Viberg. Your videos take tons of the anxiety out of sizing. So yeah, thanks brother! Glad to return the favor haha
I asked Dave this same question and would like to get your opinion as well. I have a 12D brannock size and I wear a 11.5D in the Alden barrie and trubalance lasts. What size do you recommend for me in the Viberg 2030 lasted service boot? Thanks!

Dave, this took a couple sessions of watching to get through but it was super helpful. Viberg is intimidating for me and you helped explain through the lasts and which ones would work best for me. Thanks for a great overview!
No problem, Daniel! Super glad that helped! Took me some years, many boot try-outs, and some costly last and size mistakes to learn all that, so I wanted to pass on the experience. Haha
Really helpful information! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I kind of feel like the 2040 would be the best for me, but I have a medium instep, so I’m not totally sure. That said, this was the most helpful information I’ve found on sizing for Viberg. 🙏
Glad that helped! You could always find 2040 somewhere that accepts returns (like Standard and Strange)? Just to try it. It could work for medium instep sometimes, just depends. But definitely not high instep.

Really enjoy the longer videos. As a Canadian I’m proud of the iconic Viberg service boots and can’t wait to get my hands on the perfect pair. Personally, I feel a lot more comfortable buying from places like White’s that use your unique measurements to recommend a size instead of brannock, especially due to my feet being in between sizes. I’ve had cases where the recs were just wrong or where the manufacturer had a different rec than the seller, etc. I’d love it if more places would just look at my exact measurements and say what works best

Glad you liked it! And those derby boots you have sound amazing! Viberg uses some of the best suede leather in the world too. I’m a huge fan of 2020 last.
Awesome!! You wear the 310 on March 10 with us! I’m trying to start a movement 😄 And yes, sounds like we are the same size. I now have honed in on 10D in most Whites and Nicks (Whites Barrie I do 9.5E) and 9.5 (E) in the 310.

Always fun to see your videos. I find it difficult to remember lasts labeled with numbers, not names. I watched your video on the Stetson Open Road. Have you had a chance to wear it much?
Thanks! I used to forget these last numbers too, but now I’m well acquainted…I wear the Stetson about 3 times a week, for the last year+…Still going strong!! Fantastic hat!
Appreciate the head start with your time and experience. I think I would be either the 2020 or 2030. Does Viberg have sample sizes that you can try out? Thanks!
Very helpful video. I tried a bunch of different Viberg boots today and the one that fit was the 2020. I bought the boots even though they weren't the color I was looking for. The fit was too good to pass up. There's no sign of the 2020 on the Viberg website. I wonder if they're still going to make boots on this last.
Timely video. I was just trying to research this information for making my first "real" boot purchase. This has helped a lot! Thanks. Also, I saw you recently picked up some Grant Stone Diesel boots. And was hoping you could give some insight as to how/if the Leo last compares to any of the boots here? Cheers
Glad to help! I forgot to include GS in the mix; oops 😬😆 I wear 10D or 9.5E in Leo and Floyd lasts. So, basically same as Viberg. Leo is very very similar to that Alden Barrie last I showed in the video. The Floyd would be roughly like the 310 I showed, in the way it fits. If you end up with any specific questions, feel free to hit me up! 👍🏽🙌🏽
@@thevintagefuture6567 Appreciate that. I should have said how the Leo last 'shape' compares. For example, I have an E width foot with a medium high instep and like my toes to splay more. The takeaway I got from the video it sounds like Viberg's 1035 is what I'm looking for. And am curious if The Leo offers that anatomical/Munson shape fit or is it closer to the 2030?
@@shaunharwood1001 oh ok, yeah, 1035 should work it sounds like. Never know for sure, as every foot is different and it’s not guaranteed that any given last will work for your feet. But yeah, it’s sounding like 1035 is the most likely. The other Viberg lasts could be good too, just depends on how high your instep is; never hurts to try something…I don’t think 2030 would be a horrible fit, just sometimes not 10/10 cuz of that toe…Leo is in that anatomical toe family too, just like Barrie/1035/2040.
@@thevintagefuture6567 Awesome. And that's what I was hoping to hear about The Leo. This has really helped me narrow down a selection to try. Thanks again for all the info! 👍
Will you PLEASE address the fit & differences between the 2020 service boots vs halkett? I prefer the service boot in 2020 and love it....want more and thought about the Halkett in red or blue. :-) Thoughts/recommendations?
Hey man. I have a question about the 2030 as it relates to the 2020. The way I understand it is the 2020 is D/B (ball/heel) whereas the 2030 is E/D. Setting aside the different shapes of the lasts would a D in the 2030 handle some of the issues in volume for the narrow footed people? What's your experience with the 2030 in D width?
Hey! Your understanding of the two lasts is correct. They’re combo lasts. But I haven’t tried the 2030D personally. I have heard it’s narrower and thus less volume, but I can’t verify how it actually fits.
@thevintagefuture6567 Gotcha. It stands to reason that would be the case. In the end I don't know how much of a difference it would make. It seems like the 2030 just isn't a last for the low instep foot. I appreciate these videos too man. I'm gathering information for my first pair of SBs. I was already hedging against a poor fit with a half size down back up I could exchange for. At this point I may just move to the 2020 if my first shot isn't a hit so you saved me a lot of time.
Great video, thanks! I am keeping an eye out for a "dressy" / sleek Viberg Service Boot, that I could wear to the office. That pretty much excludes the 310 and 2040 lasts, right? I would have to decide (without being able to fit) if the 2030 or the 2020 would work best for me, but would you agree that these latter two lasts are the most "dressy"? Other than that, I have a detailed idea of what I would want, so now it is just a matter of waiting and hoping that 'my' configuration will be produced. One other question regarding dressy boots: would you agree that the Dainite sole is dressier / less bulky / more streamlined than the Ridgeway sole? (I am excluding a leather outsole, as this is not practical for me.) Thank you very much!
Hey! Glad you found the video helpful! Yes, 2030 and 2020 would be best for your usage. If 2030 fits your foot nicely, it is the most promising, as that’s their flagship, so they make many many models from it. Check their website, and I’m sure you’ll find something you like. The Halkett pattern (there’s 2020 and 2030 versions) is pretty dressy. But they have Service Boot patterns which are fairly dressy too, with binding and brogued cap toe etc….You could also check other companies like Crockett and Jones, Carmina, Carlos Santos, Joseph Cheaney etc. Those sorts of companies make very nice dressy sort of boots. In some ways, they will make it easier to find what you want than Viberg perhaps
@@thevintagefuture6567 Thank you for your reply. Any thoughts regarding my assumptions on the Dainite vs. Ridgeway sole? (For some reason, I do not like the Ridgeway, perhaps you could tell already.)
@@77Matt oh sorry! Haha…Yeah Ridgeway isn’t dressy. I would only wear it if you need it for the terrain you’re on. Dainite is passable as dressy but not formal.
What a video, thank you. I might have missed it, but would you recommend 2030 if i have a high instep? 2040 seems like the biggest no-go for high instep, or should i rather just only go for 1035?
I know this may somewhat contradict what was said in the video (and that’s why it seems you need a friggin wizard to figure out sizing sometimes), but I’ve got high insteps/arches and I find the 2040 to be more supportive than the 2030, however I have VERY slight toe rub on my left foot in the 2040 only. It is so minor that it’s not even uncomfortable and probably has something to do with the shape of my feet. I have big toes that curve slightly inward (toward my other toes). 2030 last works for me, but 2040 is hands down more comfortable (for me). I really want to try the 2020 now as well as the 1035 and 310 (the 310 just looks friggin cool!).
When boot manufacturers size are they sizing based on HTT or HTB? Cause here’s the kicker. I’m TTS HTT in the Alden Trubalance but a 1/2 size down in HTB.
Everyone is telling me that Vibergs are UK sizing, and that is why you go down 1 size from your USA brannock. It seems your sizing recommendation is different. So you find ordering Vibergs in your brannock HTT is the right sizing? I’m 11.5D HTT and maybe 11.75 HTB. I normally buy 11 in boots, but sometimes need to go to 11.5 or even 12. My sneakers are all 12. Wasn’t sure if I should order a 310 boot in 10.5 like Viberg’s site suggests, or just do an 11 like I normally do.
I normally go 1/2 down from Brannock. This just so happens to be same as my htt. 1 down works too. So, I’m 10htt and 10.5htb. Normally, you go off your longer length, but every person’s measurements are unique. So I wear size 10 Viberg usually, sometimes 9.5. This means I’m going 1/2 down or 1 down. And yes, 1 down coincides with the difference between US and UK sizing (where 10.5 US would be 9.5 UK/9.5Viberg). Sorry if that was confusing.
I personally go one size down from Brannock in Viberg and that works very well for me. This is in the 2030 and 2040 lasts. Haven’t tried Viberg’s other lasts (yet).
Quick Question Please ..... If you could only own one pair of service boots for the next decade , so longevity would be vital , which would you choose Viberg' or Whites ? ...... Thanks
I seem to have the same foot shape as you do, and Viberg is recommending that I just get half a size up for a pair of 2030. I thought you said you tried in every size, and that still did not work? Will you wear a pair of 2040 instead? Since there is no 2020 available at the moment, unfortunately.
I think 2040 is best, if your foot shape is similar to mine. Unless you have a high instep, 2040 at 1/2 or 1 down from Brannock is very nice for many people.
I just watched an old video of yrs from june 2020 where you were wearing size 8 in the 310 and 2030 now you are 9.5 and size 10 in these. what gives? yr feet grew?
I was sizing wrong back then 😭😄 Because my feet are skinny, I would downsize to get a tighter fit, but I later realized that’s wrong. So I wear my correct size now, with thicker socks, and it’s quite comfortable. The Brannock device tells no lies 😂
How's your Dublin leather boots looking and feeling. I apologize because I don't remember who's the maker...possibly Viberg? I have an English Dublin leather wallet and belt from Ashland leather and I love it, probably my favorite leather. I think I'd like a boot in Dublin leather as well, but I'd like your opinion on this leather for a boot, service boot style is what I'm thinking.
Hey! I’ve had 4 boots in Dublin, but unfortunately I had to sell them all for various reasons. I’ve also tried two of its sister tannages, Essex and Cambridge. I will say, it is a strictly rugged leather, not dressy, as you probably know because of your wallet experience. That said, I can tell you Dublin is hands down one of my top 3 favorite leathers! I LOVE it! One unique feature is, it’s softer than most veg tan leathers but has more structure than most chrome tanned leathers. Fair warning: one thing many people don’t like about it (but I think this adds to the character) is the grain break can be somewhat course. For reference, go see my Viberg 2040 Dublin video. The vamp has some fairly noticeable creasing.
@@thevintagefuture6567 Thank you so much! I agree with you about it being strictly a more rugged leather which definitely creases more, but like you I find this appealing not undesirable. I've also been thinking about Essex, but I think I like the waxyness of the Dublins. I'll definitely check out your video on the boot in Dublin you suggested. One last question, other than Viberg, do you know of any other boot makers doing Dubkin leather on their boots?
@@davidmacy2252 no problem! I don’t like Essex as much cuz it’s a bit more plain. But to each their own haha…Dublin comes and goes; there were a lot of supply issues because of the pandemic. Truman and Parkhurst run Dublin at least once a year, but you just have to get in at the right time. Other companies dabble in leathers like this, such as Oakstreet or Grant Stone, but it’s less common. One idea is to ask Bakers Shoe if they could get there hands on some for a Whites MTO boot.
@@thevintagefuture6567 Great info. I agree, the Essex is just a little to plain. I'm very curious about Truman. I have a pair of Coach Ramblers in the 79 last that fits me very well, tank of a boot! I'd love some Dubli in the same last or even their 20 last. Parkhurst said he wasn't getting any Dublin for the foreseeable future? I'll keep a look out on Oakstreet and Grant Stones websites. Thank you for your time and suggestions. I really enjoy your channel and the very valuable info that you bring.
I have a 12D brannock size and I wear a 11.5D in the Alden barrie and trubalance lasts. What size do you recommend for me in the Viberg 2030 lasted service boot? Thanks!
No. But they do rotate what they’re making, so 2020 isn’t necessarily part of every seasonal drop. They made a lot of 2020 last in 2021-22, but maybe will back off a bit for a while.
Do you have recommended alternatives of the service boot from viberg for guys with low instep skinny feet. My feet sounds to be quite similar to yours. Thank you for the great content. Really useful ❤
@@thevintagefuture6567 I was never able to break in my pair of iron ranger from red wing. So I started to look into viberg. Most of the stores in the UK only sell viberg 2030 or 1035. I tried 1035 one size down in the store and felt okish but not entirely sure. I was about to buy it before watching your video. Saved me lots of money and another potentially painful break-in experience!
Whites and Alden both started using the same exact Barrie last from an old last maker like 100 years ago, then developed their own unique uses of that last separate from one another. So at this point, they have the same name, are very similar in many ways, but fit differently. Same origin, different end result.

They don’t have sample sizes, but they do sell samples for cheaper on Marrkt.com
@@thevintagefuture6567 Thanks!
Always informative
Very helpful video. I tried a bunch of different Viberg boots today and the one that fit was the 2020. I bought the boots even though they weren't the color I was looking for. The fit was too good to pass up. There's no sign of the 2020 on the Viberg website. I wonder if they're still going to make boots on this last.
They rotate which lasts they use, so there will be more 2020 sooner or later.
@@thevintagefuture6567 Thanks for the reply!
You can also ask if they have any stored which aren’t on the website. They often do 👍🏽
Timely video.
@@shaunharwood1001 any time 🙌🏽🙏🏽
Will you PLEASE address the fit & differences between the 2020 service boots vs halkett? I prefer the service boot in 2020 and love it....want more and thought about the Halkett in red or blue. :-) Thoughts/recommendations?
The Halkett has more volume in the shaft and instep. Otherwise they’re the same.
Glad it helped!
(I am excluding a leather outsole, as this is not practical for me.)
Thank you very much!
2030 would be fine I’m pretty sure.
Lately I’ve been just going off the larger size, which is technically correct per Brannock website, some friends pointed out to me.
Wow you went a whole size down from HTB in the Alden Barrie?
Yeah. It worked well. But next time I would go down only 1/2.
Quick Question Please ..... If you could only own one pair of service boots for the next decade , so longevity would be vital , which would you choose Viberg' or Whites ? ...... Thanks
Viberg for sure. Whites are great, and any boot can be repaired. But Viberg is more durable and has much better QC.
@@thevintagefuture6567 Many Thanks
@@sonofloveless7223 of course! Any time
I seem to have the same foot shape as you do, and Viberg is recommending that I just get half a size up for a pair of 2030.
When you say the sizes, are they viberg uk size, or the us size marked on the box? Thanks
Viberg/UK/Box size is all the same. I’m referring to that. The size stamped on the inside of the boot and written on the box. 👍🏽
The 2020 puts me in mind of Alden Trubalance?
They’re much different. 2040 is much more like TB than 2020.
Modified, not Trubalance.
I have a 12D brannock size and I wear a 11.5D in the Alden barrie and trubalance lasts. What size do you recommend for me in the Viberg 2030 lasted service boot? Thanks!
11.5 should work! But all depends on your volume and foot shape. 11 could work too, again- depending.
@@thevintagefuture6567 Thanks, just ordered the 11.5 in the Brown CXL service boot from Standard & Strange.
@@bmo125 good! I was just about to suggest going through SnS! They’re literally the best IMHO. Lemme know how the fit works out!
@@thevintagefuture6567 Will do. Thanks again
Has anyone compared a D width 2030 to a same size 2020? If so, I would love to hear fit comparison observations.
I haven’t seen a comparison yet unfortunately
Did they discontinue the 2020 last?
Whites MP on the Barrie last works real well. Grant Stone’s Diesel also works fairly well. For Viberg, 2020/2040/310 are best.
Wow, this is good to hear! Awesome!
why are they both called barrie?
Whites and Alden both started using the same exact Barrie last from an old last maker like 100 years ago, then developed their own unique uses of that last separate from one another. So at this point, they have the same name, are very similar in many ways, but fit differently. Same origin, different end result.
Very Seattle
Do you wear insoles for you flat feet?
I do not. Seems like everyone with flat feet has a slightly different experience.
