Viberg 1035 Muschio Horsebutt Service Boot Review

- This is a size 10 Viberg 1035 collaboration with Freenote Cloth, on a Ridgeway sole. It doesn't fit my low volume feet very well. The leather is Muschio TPR Horsebutt from the Maryam Tannery in Italy. 1035 is based off the same original archive last as 2030, but Brett made different modifications to both. 2030 is a regular width dressy last, while 1035 is meant to be the wider and slightly more anatomical version.

Great summary, and hard to go wrong with the viberg service boots, style wise they're so classic. Another example of a great pair
I was excited to see this review since I recently acquired practically identical boots from Standard and Strange in Manhattan, with Ridgeway soles which I like because as you point out, from the side it looks clean and the boots go well with jeans or chinos. My boots have the perf cap toe, and the stitches are flawless and very high spi as you said. Your video explains the tpr, which I am glad seems to be coming off via a bit of Venetian balm. My tongue stays out, gladly. Great review thanks!
I love Ridgeway, too. I’m a big 2030 last fan and have been reluctant to try any other lasts based on Division Road’s recommendation. If i bought some 1035’s I’d probably be disappointed, too. Yeah, that leather looks amazing.
Great review! The boots look amazing. If they were a size 8, id take them from your hands! I do think the traction of the ridgeway is slightly better then dainite on tiles but not great still
Really useful video on Viberg fit, thanks
Thanks Teikoh!! Loving all your new videos 🙌🏽 Gotta watch your interview with Dale still 🍻
Love the leather jacket bro
I love the look of the toe! And would love to see them after the Renovateur!
I’ll DM you! 🙌🏽👍🏽
Thank you David for your great insights. I struggle with size (US size 12 to 13 EE depending on brand). I ordered 3 pairs of Vibergs: 310, 2030, and 1035. Will see which last works. Your observations really helped.
Let me know how it goes!
@@thevintagefuture6567 Well here’s what has happened. I kept the 2030 13 E. It just fits PRRFECT. The 1035 13 EE went back to roomy. The 12 EE 305 also fits As always it really depends on the last and the shape of your foot. My Brannock is 12 EE with socks on just for reference. What a mystery adventure!
Great review, thanks! Your jacket looks amazing, what is it?
Hey thanks! It's called the 30s Sport Jacket by The Real McCoy's
Have you ever tried the Alden Trubalance? I know you mentioned in another video that the TB last was wide. It is but in a weird way but not wide for my narrow skinny feet.
I’m an 8.5 HTB Brannock C width almost a D. An 8D in TB fit me the best and the most comfortable out of all of my boots. Almost a perfect alignment. You would think by looking at the TB it would be too wide but it’s only wide from balls to toes providing so much toe room. The only caveat is since I have skinny feet, lacings are closer together but I tie in way to help with that.
My TB last Indy’s in calfskin literally feel like wearing slippers or sneakers that I don’t even know I’m wearing them.
My TB experience is probably due to my foot shape. I think it probably has great volume and width capabilities for narrow feet, but the shape of my foot is dissonant with the last. Not a bad fit, just not good enough for me to spend $650 😄
Cool boots David. That’s is a nice brown. Would you say they might fit a guy that wears a 10.5 Parkhurst? I’ve been casually looking at Viberg, Whites, or Alden but haven’t found anything that really grabbed me just yet.
Hey! They should fit; but it’s really hard to tell without more info about your feet and Brannock measurement etc
Where can I buy these from you? Have you listed them somewhere? Maybe they could be my first Vibergs.

Does Viberg offer a service to re-sole the boots, like most other high end boot makers ?
Yes, they do! Although sometimes you get better results by sending your Vibergs to a cobbler like Unsung or Bedo’s to resole. With companies like them and Alden, they’re sometimes too focused on making new boots to do resoles super super well.
Thoughts on the leather? Looks like they faded a lot from original color? Veg tan I take it?
These are the Maryam TPR. That extra TPR finish they put on is super delicate. A couple rainy days n that outer layer bleeds right off…. But aside from that, which might not be the preference of some, it’s a great leather. Yes, veg tan. Maryam HB is thick. Takes some break in, but holds shape well after that. Not great for a lightweight, sleek boot. But great for a more hardy boot.
Your brannock and mine are the same (or very similar). What are you asking and how can I contact you?

This is the scary part of ordering very expensive Vibergs for the first time when you don't know which of their lasts is right for you and you don't have access to an accurate personal fitting where you can try on the different lasts.
I live in South Florida. Does anybody know a reliable solution to this problem in my area? Thanks in advance!
I have a last comparison video which might get you part of the way there:

@@thevintagefuture6567 Thanks!
Can you give an advice how to treat horsebutt?
It’s pretty hardy tbh. Just throw some Bick 4 or equivalent on it like once a year and it should be fine. Brush dirt off as necessary, all that.
How come your boots look worn and beaten in a cool way and mine all end up just scratched and dinged, looking damaged instead of broken in?
To be fair, I didn’t have these for long before selling. My Whites MPs look super scratched and gnarly after wearing hard for over a year haha
@@thevintagefuture6567 but did you buy them used, broken in?
@@tonymoore2100 no. The MPs and these Vibergs were new. The Vibergs really weren’t that worn; most of the age is just the TPR coming off
1 down on the 1035 is far too long for my foot. Its a long last, I have a round foot.
The key is more to align the ball of your foot with the ball of the boot, so to speak, rather than to worry about the length for your toes. That isn’t to say that you can’t have personal fit preferences, but technically speaking, it is more about ball alignment
@@thevintagefuture6567 right and I could shift my foot up into the right position where my ball is proper, when sized one down, which is def not a good fit.
@@JS-dt1tn oh I see what you mean now! Yeah, this last might just be bad for your foot. Bummer….I wonder if 2040 would be better for you? Since I’m theory it will grip your mid foot better?
@@thevintagefuture6567 since Viberg doesn't offer refunds im waiting for my local retailer to restock the 2040 in my supposed size. If 1.5 down on the 1035 doesn't work I might be a 1 down EE (which they don't make). Hoping a 2040 works better, but they're all the same length between lasts roughly sooo...
@@JS-dt1tn I wouldn’t advise 1.5 down….perhaps just move onto 2040? Should work as long as your instep isn’t high
$800 for a wood shank boot? Idk Viberg is over-rated.
Wood shank is not bad actually. Many heritage companies have used them for decades, and they hold up well for the most part. Steel is arguably better if it’s a heavy duty construction boot, but unnecessary for lifestyle products. Like steel frame vs wood frame houses; wood is plenty strong for many houses and many boot shanks haha
Given that these are stichdown with such a high SPI, can they even be recrafted at all? Doesn't this bring in the cost of these boots into question even more?
It would be pretty lame if you paid so much for a pair of boots and could only go through the original outsole and no more.
These can be redrafted, but it is difficult. Most cobblers wouldn’t be able to do it. It does effect the value, but that said, many people have so many boots that they will not ever have to resole most of their pairs. Still, your point stands. For this reason, I buy welted footwear instead of stitchdown almost exclusively now in case I need to resole at some point.
What did you not like about these boots in size 9.5?
Well, 9.5 was constricting for my toes, though still a bit too big. And then 10 was better for the toes but WAY too big haha…1035 just wasn’t meant to be. But for wide foot or high volume feet, this last is great.
