I was stationed on the Rock, at Lathbury Bks way back in 1975, when the frontier was closed, I went back in 2018 and how the Rock has changed, I captured many interesting photos inc a "Levante" cloud covering the east side of the rocks face, also visited the apes on the rock, happy memories.
22 years ago on the RFA OLNA we tied up on the rock me and a few a lads went a shore full a drink hitting all the bars ended up some were up the rock winding the monkeys up they are robbing little shits mind they were ripping ower plastic bags open hahaha it’s not till you see them yawning and see them K9s do you suddenly sober up 😂 and flying in and out a GIB is a experience as well this video brought back a few memories thanks lads
I think the monkeys crossed the straight from Africa in boats, hidden amongst trade goods. Only takes two to start a family and there were probably some that began a pets, but grew up and went wild?
The Rock Apes name is pronounced as MaKacks (like a Scotsman referring to his underpants)! Sorry, that’s all a bit “anal” but MaKacks is wot they are....🤪 There used to be 32 Miles of tunnels inside the Rock....I wonder if that’s ever been extended? Why has the water collection system on the Eastern side of the Rock been removed.....did anyone tell you about it?
6:21 "Winston Churchill... obviously believed this legend..." Yeah right, I rather think Churchill believed in the gullibility of the British people regarding the monkey legend ...
