They sound ve exterminated . Look what they have done to Thailand. People have to put cages around the homes to keep these macaque monkey from breaking in the house. Sorry to hear about the passing of Eric Shaw. I've seen him in a number of Gibraltar videos it's a bit like losing an old friend. My condolences to his family, friends and anybody affected by his loss. I'm sure he would have loved this video. Thanks for posting.
Because the cab drivers keep seeds in their pockets, to keep the peace. When your driver says to remove food from your bags if you don't want to lose hat bag they mean it. They have teeth. You WILL lose that fight.
@ronarmitagejr8758 that's what we did. But we saw plenty of people who didn't listen. One guy didn't even have anything on him, but one of the monkeys still ran along a railing, which included jumping over my shoulders very lightly, and onto this guy's back, grabbing fistfuls of what little hair he had left on his head! It was quite a funny moment, and I got a picture of it. BTW, when I saw them (a good 15 yrs ago), the restaurant midway up the rock had a stand with candy bars and cakes near the open door. Pretty sure the ones hanging around nearby were used to ducking in now and then for a snack 😄
As their natural habitats become smaller and more fragmented, they often come into conflict with other species for limited resources, leading to violent confrontations.
The drivers I've see have peanuts to get the monkeys to come to the van windows for their passengers. They will also facilitate and control the monkeys climbing on the tourists around the feeding zones. No open bags though! The macaques know where to look for food!!
I remember a trip to Gibraltar years ago where one of the monkeys jumped on a guys back and tried to open his backpack for food. He thought it was funny and cute till it actually bit him on the head, people treat them like cute pets and ignore the warning signs.
In India you can't literally see this coexistence everywhere (especially in Northern part) Monkeys, dogs, cats, cattles, birds, etc. If you get a little specific (area wise) you'll even find large mammals coexisting in harmony (or chaos -- depends how you view it) with humans
What? Coexisting? Look at India temples and neighborhoods overran by these macaque monkey. Most people look at them like nuisances. They eat farmers crops, break into homes ransacked it, they attack and steal from people just walking around or having a meal outside. They ven learned to steal phones, glasses, purses to get food demanding a trade for peoples items back to. They even kill human children.. coexisting is not monkey running around everywhere breaking , stealing and attacking people. In Thailand people have to put up cages around the homes to keep the macaque monkey from breaking in.
6:10 This is not "their home". Barbary macaques were introduced to Gibraltar. This species never lived there before. They have no native habitat because they aren't native. They were dropped right into an urban area and have managed but they are the ones visiting humans. It's not like that in most places, but that's how it is there. Yes there were primates, even other macaques in Europe in prehistoric times, but not these. This entire video is misleading. They aren't being "exposed" to humans there, their entire existence in Gibraltar has always required human assistance. Humans have been feeding them and providing them with water the entire time. They have and continue to be basically community pets, not native or wild animals.
As it may sound innocuous, but feeding them by visitors is not good at all. As pointed out in this video, undesired consequences could happen. In Kyushu, Japan, there's a similar spot where 3 groups of macaques are kept half wild. My father was holding me up with a small snack bag in my hand. All that I remember was exposed teeth of macaques without a memory of the rest. My father had to fend off one aggressor desperately ... Huge or monstrous to me then. I was at 3, 4 years old. Rules are sacred things when it comes to contact with nature. Rule breakers may have fun momentarily, leaving potential cause of unnecessary conflicts. Hopefully, this serve for a cautionary tale. It's animals that tend to be the first one to be punished, not tourists.
To be honest, it's amazing & interesting to me that monkeys🐒🐒🐒 can be found in Europe. Tell me are the Barbary macaque monkeys here able to adapt the winter❄️ in Gibraltar🇬🇧 easily ? Thanks 🙂. Hello from Cologne Germany 🇩🇪.
This is crazy. By the way, I have difficulty communicating because I had a stroke in Broca’s area, the part of the brain that controls speech. 2/8/2021 but I lived again. (My wife helped me compose this.)
There are many macaques in and around Delhi, India. Please take some if the Indian Government allows to help preserve the last few coexisting monkeys in this particular region. P.s - We see them almost everyday. Love and respect from 🇮🇳 India Jai Hind!
It is important to note that wild animals, including macaques, are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act of India, which prohibits the capture or killing of wild animals without permission from the government. Therefore, it is not advisable to take any macaques without permission from the relevant authorities.
The coexistence of the last wild monkeys in Europe with humans is a testament to the fact that we can peacefully coexist with wild animals, without any animals fight.
