On the one hand, the loss of the larger formation capabilities is a significant loss. But on the other, it's kind of nice to see them truly becoming "commandos" again. It seems like for the majority of the GWOT era they were basically just used as another light infantry unit to rotate through Afghanistan.
British Commando's are unique in that they can perform traditional infantry operations and at the same time can break down into smaller groups to perform Commando operations.
They said their primary role is to go undetected, you still need small teams like this and I wouldn't consider it a loss at all, infact a small team like this is a pain, you don't want to have them disrupting your operation, not large enough to commit fully to, but big enough to make other units lives much easier, they are just there to be a pain in the ass and situations like hostage rescue where your not supposed to be seen

Reverting back to our original role, brilliant about time. Its basically a revamped Patrol Company (P) that used to do the nuclear conveys in the 80s looks excellent.
The corps will only fully return to its commando routes if its comes under UKSF. Im glad to see the corps adapting with the times, but no amount of gucci kit will convince me that fundamental change is here.
Agreed, what many former SAS have said (including my cousin who is an angel) has said what makes the UKSF the best is the adaptability and mentality, not the kit. If it was all about your kit, then the Americans would be the absolute best in the world.
But they’re not SF, they’re an elite force. A highly specialized light infantry. SF isn’t the be all and end all that all soldiering is aiming towards, having them as a LI is absolutely necessary and trying to turn everything into SF is what the yanks do, it doesn’t always work. I agree with the route its going, that having a SOC (special operations capable) force like Army Rangers (75th) for airfield seizure/iron ring cordons etc is what we need in 2021 but them as an SF isn’t whats needed. SF needs to be small, not big.
@@alihilly1 Army Rangers are Special Operations Forces and are part of US Special Operations Command - SOC isn't a term used outside the US Marines. The SA80 platform is dated and shite. Clearly many Mps have shares in BaE systems hence why its stayed. The C8 is much better and im glad our armed forces are getting some better kit.
You don't know what you're talking about. Everything you've said is complete fantasy. The L85 is an excellent weapon and even the rubbish said about the A1 stems from the original Enfield production and once they moved to Nottingham those problems were eliminated and it was a massive step up from the SLR. The A2 and A3 are nothing short of fantastic. The only reason that 43CDO use the C8 is for the sake of non-frangible ammunition which is something that you want when you're in very tight spaces to avoid ricochets. Keep your armchair punditry to yourself
@@aldinssmoke Very touchy. Whilst I agree that the A2/A3 variants were good improvements, You obviously dont have much experience with the AR15/M4 platform. It may not hit as hard as the A3 but the platform is far more better.
@@Senseigainz What the hell does that have to with anything? "It may not hit as hard as the A3 but the platform is far more better." They use the same calibre bullets you fool.
We haven’t fully replaced it yet because NATO (USA) is thinking about changing from 5.56 so replacing the rifle only to have to convert it within a few years would be a massive waste of money, when we switch calibers all the L85/SA80’s will go
Thats a wonderful theory. But you might notice that you can't exactly *replace* an assault rifle for mid-to-long range accuracy like the L85-A3 with a compact and light carbine for short ranges and indoor environments like the C8. They have different applications and just because the C8 was being used in a tunnel exercise that precisely suits their use, doesn't mean the British army are abandoning a good rifle. Thank you for you glowing endorsement of ArmaLite products but I don't think they need another sales representative. As it turns out not every NATO force bends over backwards to imitate the US, practically no one in fact. So you marketing the AR-15 like is some brand new innovation in the firearms industry makes about as much sense as the Russians marketing the AK47 as the future of modern war fighting.
First time when I heard that RM gonna shrink its size (especially the term “nuclear security ” for 43 Cdo), I’m afraid the RM would become a mere “ship/missile security guard” unit just like what the yanks did to their marines. Glad it’s not the case.
@@benm5913 Their new concept. Their main mission now is simply set up missile positions in South China Sea islands, and guards them. Simply put they're only act as a security detail for some island missile positions. What a joke.

4-3 Commando work closely with S.E.G Strategic Escort Group under the CNC "Civil Nuclear Constabulary" or Special Escort Group under the MOD "Ministry of Defense Police" . This two group work very closely moving Nuclear materials.
The Royal Marines Commandos train like the U.S. Marines Special Forces and the Army Special Forces do and that is good for them to be combat ready when needed.
As far as I remember the Royal Marines Commandos don't train in foreign internal defense missions, and definitely not in unconventional warfare like the US Army SF, especially since recently they established the Ranger Regiment.

It's about time. When I was a "Bootie" in 45 commando, we were little more than an infantry regiment. Nothing wrong with that, but it wasn't what I joined up for.
We see that the military trend nowadays is to take specialised units and train them to a special operational level. It happened in the US 75th ranger brigade and now in the UK, the Marine commandos, smaller but better-trained units rather than large armies.
Unfortunately this is done because politicians want to view SOF as their own personal fixer team, when in reality SOF can only work well if they have the logistical support from the greater army. The downside of this is a much smaller pool of viable candidates from which to elevate to SOF, and a higher casualty rate of SOF due to being put on missions setup to fail.
The only thing I want to do is join the Marines, now more then ever, but I cant even join the army because i broke my hip 6 years ago and have a possibility of getting osteoarthritis when in older.
I’m sorry to hear that, I’m 17 and was planning on joining next year. Found out I need to get laser eye surgery to pass medical but can’t get it done until I’m 22. They should have done the tunnel clearance using the Tactical Effects Simulator, so you get a realistic amount of 'casualties' taken out of the game. And did you see the GPMG stoppage on the first round?
The trouble with all this 'more tech, fewer men' approach is that along comes a war where the enemy force you to have to put lots of boots on the ground, whether you like it or not. If you haven't got them, you'll lose. Luckily we did for the Malayan and Borneo campaigns, Northern Ireland and the 1990-91 Gulf War. Not so good for Iraq and Afghanistan, where we failed to dominate the ground, and we couldn't do another Falklands War/Suez type operation. Not that anyone's fired a shot in anger since the withdrawal from Afghanistan, apart from the RAF over Syria. I've seen a couple of the Forces TV episodes about British forces in sub-Saharan Africa, and there is a reluctance to get involved in combat against the insurgents there. Well, if our soldiers don't fight, how can they train those who are going to, once the combat experience of Iraq & Afghanistan runs out?
They remind me of the 75th Ranger Regiment. Which is a very good thing! 🔥 they look meaner, faster, and finally have some legit nice tech and Tactical equipment thrown at them. Very nice 👍🏾 let’s go Commandos!!
They have adopted the 75ths security ideology in support of Spec Ops missions. These guys would be a mix of MARSOC and 75th ranger in their overall operation.

On the one hand, the loss of the larger formation capabilities is a significant loss. But on the other, it's kind of nice to see them truly becoming "commandos" again. It seems like for the majority of the GWOT era they were basically just used as another light infantry unit to rotate through Afghanistan.
We have paras and infantry for that tho
British Commando's are unique in that they can perform traditional infantry operations and at the same time can break down into smaller groups to perform Commando operations.
They said their primary role is to go undetected, you still need small teams like this and I wouldn't consider it a loss at all, infact a small team like this is a pain, you don't want to have them disrupting your operation, not large enough to commit fully to, but big enough to make other units lives much easier, they are just there to be a pain in the ass and situations like hostage rescue where your not supposed to be seen
Thats so cooool😎. Imagine being a soldier for years. Being over sea's. Then doing training in your own backyard. That seems to be a very unique feeling and training. No mistakes around your own people.🇨🇦

@@Senseigainz What the hell does that have to with anything?
"It may not hit as hard as the A3 but the platform is far more better."
They use the same calibre bullets you fool.

The funny thing about it, I live in Northern Ireland.
