I agree, he absolutely made a better shoe, and based on the original quality, I’d never buy a Cole Haan. Their shoes can go for between $120 to $400 a pair. With that being said, the customer was fairly foolish IMHO to have this repair done based on his initial agreement. He could easily replace this shoe for close to what he paid for the repair. Now, the real value here is what he did to make the shoe better and not charge him for it. Without a doubt, this was an exceptional job and I enjoyed watching it.
Truly, the "silk purse" saying was never more apt. There's no flash here, but what knowledge, skill and craftsmanship! I have bought quite a few pairs of department store ready to wear shoes like Cole Haan and Johnston Murphy because I didn't know any better, they fit my budget, and gave me enough value for the dollars that I had to spend. I've learned something more about shoes lately. Especially, enough to recognize the beautiful piece of work was done here.
I have just today run into your channel and have become nostalgic. My grandfather was a shoe maker and I remember always getting the opportunity to walk into his shop to admire his work. He took great pride in doing what he did and he would always tell me stories about his humble beginnings as a shoe maker. I really miss him. Your videos make me feel closer to him even if he isn't around anymore 😔♥️
It’s nice to see someone who is so dedicated to his craft!!! It’s refreshing to see you do those little extras regardless of being able to charge. The mark of a true craftsman!! It’s not about the money!
I think that's going to be my new motto when I'm having a tough day at work. I'll vent a little bit about how someone messed up and how they should have done it properly, and then set off to fix it after saying, "All right. Let's continue."
Excellent workmanship! So glad there are still people out there that not only value their profession but actually go the extra step to provide an above and beyond level of service to the customer. I think the price for the restoration was appropriate for the level of excellent workmanship provided. Wish I lived close to your shop. You’d get all my shoe and leather business.
I can’t believe all the work that goes into restoring the shoes. You are doing a fantastic job showing us what you enjoy doing. Thanks for sharing. I have no intentions of repairing shoes but you have given me so much more than just instructions.. I think having good knowledge is the key to success. Thank you and please enjoy the coffee.
Like I have said before you are an artist. An artist takes the ordinary and turns it into something sublime. I really enjoyed when you decided to turn the pattern on the heal design because you liked the way it looked and functioned better. You did it because you wanted to not because of costs. The blue on the bottom and the laces were a nice touch. It made it better than when he bought them new. Great job! I enjoy watching you work taking the worn out and making it useful and beautiful again.
A skilled craftsman with the soul of an artist and the scruples of a saint. I hope the owner of those beat-up, sorry looking shoes paid what you asked without blinking and then saw your handiwork on here to see what he should have been charged. What he got back was better than new and I hope he appreciates it.
I truly enjoy watching your restorations - my father was a cobbler and watching your channel reminds me of watching him work when I was a child and he would take me to work with him. You are a true expert and craftsman; as well, thank you for explaining so much on shoe structure as you go along - very good information to keep in mind even when buying a pair of shoes!
Great work! Considering the damage on those shoes prior to you working on them, you were able to make them look 10X better. It's a shame the customer broke his shoes down so badly. Because you take so much pride in your craft, I will definitely consider sending you my shoes, when work is needed.
Alot of the video tutorials i'ved watched on youtube simple videos the whole process of the repair but your videos just brings it a notch higher, you give more detail and show how to overcome problems that you encounter along the way. I bet a million bucks that you can transform a k-mart bought shoe into a 1000 dollar leather shoe :)
Their Washington line is not done like this. They are a traditional build. That said, I hated my Washington wingtips and leather soles in general. I'm much happier with the Hamilton line with the synthetic soles. I could run in those things.

Agreed, I like Cole Haan's but they seem cheaply made considering what I pay for them. They cost pretty close to my Allen Edmonds, and those shoes are clearly worth the money. Cole Haan, not so much...
yeah I own one pair, but I knew they were a disposable shoe. They look cool but like many "fashion" shoes you buy these days they are crap. An ok shoe starts at 300 and goes up from there.

I love the forensic analysis while you're disassembling the shoes for repair. I wonder if there would be any interest from the community in disassembling and analyzing higher-end new shoes. For example, I just purchased a pair of Johnson and Murphy Melton Cap Toe Oxfords and I would have LOVED to see their internal makeup prior dropping a buck 75 for the pair.

Its great to see such craftsmanship in this day and age! I love watching these videos. I wonder if there are people in the UK who do this sort of quality work - haven't come across any so far but I guess there must be some
You improved those shoes to a state far better than factor, and in a variety of ways. As always with great skill. I don't think $240 was too much considering the time and effort, though I hope/assume they were of sentimental value to the owner. Heck, NOW they're ready for an extended life - before that they were just destined for the landfill like every single other one that rolled out of the factory. Amazing job!
At a Cole Haan store some 20 years ago they offered three cap toe black Oxfords, looking more or less alike. But one was $650, one $350, and one maybe $225. Maybe the top of the line was not shamelessly compromised, but at that time Ferragamo were on sale down the street for maybe $500, and AE Park Avenues were under $200 on sale. Over the years I’ve found Aldens and other good makers for under $200, so I never really wear anything till it’s really beat up. I’ll replace sole once in a blue moon, a heel a bit more often, but I regret my life plan doesn’t see me going all in for a major reconstruction (that in average hands would ruin the fit anyway.)
agreed with below comments, You do absolutely incredible work. Def not worth that actual shoe it was performed on, but love watching your videos, very zen and relaxing to me. Not sure Cole Haan was ever deserving of such work. For my Carmina and Vass, certainly, CH, don't even bother. cheers
$240 is not over the top. You took a mediocre shoe and made it better than it ever was. Great craftsmanship and care.

Great work. The complete job was outstanding.
You sir are a master, reminds me of old Italian shoemakers i have seen. Merry Christmas.
Svern Warunos thank You same to you🙏🙏
It is cheaper to buy a new set of shoes. But you did a very good job!
It is not just about of perfection of your workmanship...you teach us, as well, how to choose and split good manufacturing practice and shoes from bad ones
Wow, very nice restoration, this is better than new! I wasn't aware the shoe actually had the blue colors.
Its great to see such craftsmanship in this day and age! I love watching these videos. I wonder if there are people in the UK who do this sort of quality work - haven't come across any so far but I guess there must be some
Beautiful shoes and beautiful job, thanks.
For my Carmina and Vass, certainly, CH, don't even bother. cheers
