As a British person, thinking Arctic Monkeys is American is crazy too me considering they were aggressively ladish English with their first couple of albums

Folk music isnt really a usa thing and even the southern usa is heavily influenced by british and irish culture, theres a video showing how the southern drawl is just a slurred british accent, the term folk music was first used to describe traditonal music in england in the 1800s, mumford and songs literally sing with british accents same with artic monkeys haha
In german too the word volk means 'the people as a whole'. Irish music uses the banjo a lot, but bands like zeppelin do too.

Your reaction to Mumford and Sons is exactly the same as my reaction - many years ago - to the top 70s Swamp-Americana band Creedence Clearwater Revival being from California. And yes, Radiohead are brilliant but do "borrow" from older songs occasionally (the middle eight from "Creep" is The Hollies "All I Need is the Air That I Breathe", for instance). Yellow is cold plays best song and they didn't do much after it. I am British born in the late 60's and have never listened to Radiohead. I don't know any of their music. They must be more successfull in the US than the Uk, because nobody I know in the UK listens to Radiohead.

Your Oasis comment made me laugh out loud. Some people get quite defensive about Oasis but the derivation of their music is patently obvious. Still good songs though, just reminiscent!

Ocean Colour Scene sounds more like the Beatles to me than Oasis.
