  • I give a detailed overview of Inkstitch. Inkstitch is an AWESOME free plugin for the AWESOME free vector graphics editor inkscape. Create beautiful embroidery machine designs limited only by your own imagination (or in my case the absence of artistic ability LOL).

    Wow!! This is the best tutorial on any subject I’ve seen on RUclips. Clear and logical. No parenthetical “by the way” inserts. This evening I set up a Brother SE-400 and did a test using built in designs. Tomorrow I’ll take my logo, load it into Inkscape and I’m confident I’ll be ready to embroider it with a minimum of frustration. I hope you have more videos because I just subscribed.

      Always save your projects as a .SVG file. That's the easiest way to pick it back up, edit it, and save again (always as SVG).
      Once you're happy with the embroidery project, save as SVG, then save again as your embroidery file.

    In the preview there are thin lines when it jumps between objects, I assume those are just thread that you need to trim off when it is done. Is there a special way to trim those off so it doesn't all unravel?

    • @LowTechLinux
      @LowTechLinux  3 года назад

      Trim from the front facing side with wee little scissors. Don't cut anything from the backside.
      You can apply a cut command but only some machines recognize the command.

    Hello, and thank you for this tutorial. I was able to paste the Ink/stitch into the extensions, however where you go into the extensions folder and you see a 'install add-ons for inkscape' my inkscape doesn't offer that. I installed the ink/stitch extensions on 2 pc's, one running Win 10, 64, and the other Win 10, 32. Neither offers the install add-ons for inkscape. How can I obtain this?

    • @LowTechLinux
      @LowTechLinux  3 года назад +2

      Inkstitch 2.0 no longer offers the "install add-ons for inkscape" option. In inkstitch 2.0 the new menu for the add-ons is now found by following the menu structure Extensions > Inkstitch > Thread color management > Install thread color palettes for inkscape.

    Q : can inkscape + inkstitch run on raspberry pi ( single board computer) ?
    If can, what linux distro should i use?
    I am a beginner in linux, but willing to learn..thx

    • @LowTechLinux

      honestly I have no idea. There are builds of inkscape for the rasppi so in theory it should work.
      As for what distro to use on it, there is an official Raspberry Pi OS for it. If you want to play around with distros I always recommend Manjaro.

    can inkstitch resize or scale an existing embroidery file. thanks for the answer e complimenti for the good open source program

    • @LowTechLinux
      @LowTechLinux  2 года назад

      You can change the size by a little bit. The problem being you can't change the params of an existing embroidery file so if you make it larger you can't increase the density to fill any gaps created and if you make it smaller you can't decrease the density and it could become too dense. This all depends on how much you're adjusting the size.

    I've been doing some of my own embroidery files with inkstitch and have found that the stitches are really tight and compact, too much for my liking as a matter of fact. It could be because I have a husqvarna machine. How can I fix it so that the stitches don't tear up my fabric? I have a pic of an example but I don't think I can share it here.

    • @LowTechLinux
      @LowTechLinux  3 года назад

      I'm assuming you mean with fill stitches over a large area?
      Select the fill stitch object and then go into params and you can adjust how dense the stitches are.
      Extensions>Inkstitch>Params
      Look for 'Spacing between rows'. The default is .25. If you set it to a higher number the stitch will be less dense. Try small numbers jumps as in .3 and then .35. The preview window will give you the number of stitches to stitch that object and will change as you change this value.

      @@mightyboosh84 the simulator can take a long time to start depending on how complex your work is, and the specs of the computer you are working on.
      Inkstitch>troubleshoot>troubleshoot objects is your best friend. Make sure you don't have any objects highlighted when you run it. If it says all objects are valid it should work on your embroidery machine even if it doesn't work in the simulator.
      You can troubleshoot objects with an object highlighted, but it will ONLY troubleshoot the object you have highlighted, not the whole piece. This can be useful too if you know when to do just a selected object.
