    The haka is arguably the most sacred military and history tradition in the world. To accept a challenge like that and not back down is actually a sign of respect. The haka is an invitation to do battle, and the Irish gratefully accepted.
    You can tell the mutual respect between them is there. Fair play to both teams.

    Well played Ireland last night for putting in the performance of a lifetime and beating the all blacks! From an England fan, we were all cheering you on and you managed to do what we just missed out on. Was going to say I bet the hangovers are big this morning, but my guess is you’re still going! ☘️🍺

      Ye was a great win and a even better party! I certainly was cheering you guys on the week before as well, England were the better team on the day and they deserved more . We're not as bad as those down south thin we are up here. Lets hope one of us proves it to them when the world cup rolls around. Old rivalries aside (its all just banter anyway) if Ireland can't do it I'd happily cheer on any of the four teams from these islands.......and maybe even the frogs!

    "If you're intimidated by a challenge like that, then don't step on the field"
    I'd argue that if they are unsettled by a team standing up to their 'challenge' then it is they who should not step on the field.

    What Irish did in '89 was exactly what Rugby fans want to see, they pushed it to the limit, they made the game even more excited, they TOOK the challenge, and they challenged the challengers :) Rugby is a game, and games need some sort of variety. There was no dissrespect in that game, it was awesome. Wish these days we had more of this :)
    Irish lost that day, but they made the day memorable. I haven't seen any other team standing up to All Blacks, and practically, challenging them back.

    us irish challenged the haka but with the respect it was given to us.the irish are not english and we appreciate other traditions as we appreciate our own e>g. not backing down to the haka but we respect it and new zealanders should respect the irish dont back to a challenge or fight.

  • @shredx81

    This is great. I read a lot of comments about this being disrespectful & whatnot, but the Haka is war dance. Its purpose is to intimidate the opposition. In international test rugby, psychological advantage plays a big part in winning the game. You'd do well not to allow arguably the strongest rugby team in the world to have the psychological upper hand on your own soil before the game's even started. Fairplay to Ireland.

  • @pieater73
    @pieater73 11 лет назад +4

    The haka is great now that it is rehearsed and choreographed. Up until 2000 it was all a bit namby-pamby, this one included. A load of Irishmen singing Danny Boy in your face is way more intimidating. Fair play though, Piri and Ma etc have made it a true spectacle now.

    Shelford and Mexted, were brilliant no 8's, hard as nails and great ball players, and I'm English! As Shelford says, he respected it! How different when Richard Cockerill did the same at Old Trafford against, he got a real dressing down from the pompous "Oh we can't have that" RFU. If Johnno wants to make a go of the England job, these characters need to be looked at! Carling spoke about this years back but wasn't supported, funny how some are now coming out and saying he had a point, cowards!

    @chaelo Remind me the last time South Africa beat Ireland??? Have a good recent record against Australia too. To be honest, the All Blacks are consistently almost unbeatable.
