I still play to this day. Just because later titles exist and have more fluid mechanics doesn’t mean this game is bad. Newer players should definitely give it a try, they’d discover a true gem
I had some experience with Motion Capture for video games and gotta admit even though Namco has always created a seriously fluid and accurate movement animations and overall choreography for Tekkens in the past, (I think they were using MoCap before it was industry standard) They really outdid themselves with Tekkn 8. Ps. You almost saw me as Leon in these new Resident Evil games :)
It spoke to so many different people in different stages of life. While my dad wasn't fond of me playing fighting games, he really LOVED Tekken 2's soundtrack, especially March to the Columns. So this became a very fond memory of him for me.
Tekken 2 was massive in my High school we all had it at the time, I loved it. 1-3 were amazing for me and then it sorted dropped off after that. I got into 6 and played it loads but not able to get into it since. I’m going to download the demo for 8 when I get in now after watching this 👍🏻
For me what made this great as a 10 year old kid, was it was a substantial visual upgrade over the first, firstly it looked better the fmv's look better the soundtrack was amazing and finally the gameplay was smoother. I remember watching the intro for it multiple times and loved the track for the devil stage. I know this isn't about Tekken 3 but feel that the jump from Tekken 2 to 3 was the same jump from 1 to 2, truly amazing.

1996 was the time when the 32-bit era had found its place in 3D gaming. I discovered Tekken 2 in spring of 1996 through a Playstation Demo Disc at Sears which also included crash bandicoot and Twisted Metal 2 i believe. It was on that moment I realized, that the future of 3D had arrived and the 2D dreamscapes will cease to exist; and I was right...to a degree. Tekken 2 is by far one of my greatest prized possessions in my library of games for its distinctive and harmonious OST, sound design and other achievements this game had accomplished. This game and Crash Bandicoot were the ones who made the Playstation.
Tekken 2 will always be my favourite. Just hit at the right time for me growing up, and everything just clicked. I did martial arts, still do, and a lot of inspiration from this game has carried over into my adult life. I run my own gym that is a bit unique to say the least. Different rooms are like different stages, and I'm opening a dojo this year. Man, gaming really has affected me more than I realised 😂
T2 was everything T1 was supposed to be, greatly improved. I loved the soundtrack so much, and you can have arranged or arcade versions. Played the hell out of that game until T3.
Tekken 2 was the first Tekken game I've ever played. I can go on about playing this with my cousins on their Playstation for weekends, but this made me a fan of the series for life. Plus it improves on the first to a T. T for Tekken that is... Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat change the game, and Virtura Fighter brought fighting to 3D. To me, this was peak fighting game for its time. With Tekken 8 on the horizon, I do occasionally revisit this gem on my PS5.
For me it's the most sentimental version of the game as it was the first Tekken I owned. I had played Tekken but was still loving Virtual Fighter and Street Fighter at the time. But Tekken 2 changed everything for me, the guys at Namco somehow managed to step up everything for Tekken 2. One of my favourite things of Tekken 2 is the soundtrack. Ah man when that Kazuya theme plays I get chills quite possibly my favourite gaming music.

There was an arcade cabinet of Tekken 2 there and we all used to have huge tournaments on our lunch breaks. sometimes we would run there on our 15min breaks just to get a quick couple of rounds in before recess was over. So many quarters soent there as a kid. Its a shame, and its really sad to see that arcades are pretty much dead in N.America. When I read the title for the video I instantly thought back to the disc art and how it made me realise at just 6 or 7 years old that I was in fact straight 😂
Devil Kazuya in Tekken 1 wasn't just a palette swap. He does significantly more damage with that skin than as regular Kazuya. I want to say ~25% more damage at least.

Tekken 2 is a huge improved of Tekken 1. Controls are better and more characters and good graphics of that time. Tekken 2 is way harder than the first game especially when the CPU can counter every move you make. Kazuya and Devil Kazuya are absolute pain to face. The fight is more intense with the arcade version of Emotioness Passion playing.

Juggles of jank, later refined in T2
