This is the BEST video on a specific engine I have found on YT so far... And I have been looking at quite a lot of them lately. ❤
Cheers 👍
Super informative, well done! Keep ‘em coming!
Bought a half year ago an audi tt mk2 2.0 tfsi and every your video is very helpful. Thanks a lot for your explanations, ive never seen someone who can do it so understandable
You're welcome pal
Brilliant video, I have a whole new respect for my wife's e35 Gti now 👍
Loved the vid man, you are a natural teacher!
Shucks thanks 😁👍
Love this channel. I really live the fact you give a great insight into the dark arts of tuning.
Sharings caring...👍👍
Looking forward to u opening up the cdl block and how many +++++++++ stages u go with. Loved this content & genuinely feel ive learnt something mate. Peace and thanks sid
I'm about to dive into it Sid!! Don't know how far I will go. Will be videoing it though, cheers pal 👍👍
The mk5 sold in N. America up to mid 2008 were designated FSI whereas the later ones produced till the mk6 came out were designated as TFSI (timing chain as opposed to the belt in earlier FSI mk5's). Surprised to learn that the FSI cannot run in stratified mode, despite the designation.
Crazy isn't it... all the same but badged differently. I dont know why they would bother.
@@DecimalTenthsI’m pretty sure that in Australia they sold naturally aspirated 2 litre Golfs and they were badged as FSI.
Really interesting insight…learned a lot today. Thanks.
Cheers 👍
Thanks for the info nick im new to the tfsi world Iv had 1.8 20vt for the last 20years and stil love them
It's a cool world of immense torque...🤣. Look after them and they're good.
Awesome video, extremely informative. I run an old Golf with 18T engine and a B7 A4 with the EA113 TFSI lump, both running ++++-+ tunes 😂 Nice to know the fundamental differences.
Nick
Thanks for the video as interesting and informative as always. Looking forward to more videos.
Im looking put a 2.0 tsfi in my corrado.
Cheers pal, good luck with it!!
I've got my BWA GTI for 9 years now and I could never enjoy it fully because it always had problems with air intake and lean mixture. It has a huge sentimental value for me as my father used to spend a lot of time and money to keep it in good conditions. Now that he's gone I'm not willing to part with my GTI anytime soon (despite of all the electric cars spawning everywhere), so it's time for me to make it awesome again and make it live a long life. Too bad I'm not an engine expert and the mechanics I know have lost the passion for tuning and really appreciate engines, they just seem to plug the CAN reader and do barely enough to make the engine light go away for a couple of weeks.
I'm very happy to have found someone that explains so in depth what I'm driving around everyday, it makes me love my engine even more.
Keep up with the good work!
Cheers 👍👍
Wow, your knowledge of these engines is amazing, I am just looking at using VAG 1.8 for a project car, I need to come and use you guys, could watch you all day 👌👌
Cheers.
Need to make more videos 😬
Explained beautifully, so easy to understand thank you buddy
😁👍👍
A man that truly spoke the words the public could not! He fought for his voters rights, and his party decided he was dangerous for their party! He should go it on his own, with like minded people who have the same passion for Australia and it’s people and are not wanting to get paid for doing nothing important!
Good luck on your next path, whatever it may be!
Great 👍
Great video that Nick, after all these years and cars I finally know what TFSI means 🤣🤣👍🏻
🤣🤣
Great informational video! Loved it. Looking forward to the TFSI vs gen 1 TSI comparison
Ooh...
Gen 1 is chain driven and has a better fuel system. That's about it...🤣.
Gen3 is where its at 😎
@@DecimalTenths would you agree the Gen 1 TSI across the board is stronger than the FSI models except for CDL and BYD?
@@nates2243 it has stronger internals like the BYD and CDL or any other K04 engine.
@@nates2243 no gen 1 tsi has the most random issues. Tfsi ea113 are great engines providing they're maintained
Great video, your really good at these informative videos
Thanks pal 👍
great video, so well explained, thanks!
Thanks dude
Where have u been all this time? Really grateful for the insight, learned quite alot, great work!
Looking forward to vcds tutorials on the MK5 GTI!
Nice one. Glad you liked it pal. What would you want to cover?
The 1.8T and TFSi EA113 has the Same 06A Block , only the Bore is littebit Bigger by the TFSI ! but such a great Iron Block
Another awesome video 👌😎
Great video. Everydays a school day 👍🏻
When i got my mk6r about 12 months ago i was lucky enough to get a spare CDL complete motor with it. Old owner was told it was stuffed but after a decent inspection it was just a dodgy injector. The CDL thats currently in my mk6r is pretty much at its limit on the stock bottom end. G25-660 just shy of 400bhp on a safe tune. Ive got the spare motor stripped and at the machine shop to get the head and block decked as well as honed and align bored for billet mains. Will be fully forged. ARP studs and bolts. Worked head. Upgrading to either a G30-770 or G30-900. Still discussing that with my tuner. Ecu masters emu black ecu. Mabotech injectors and a IE intake plenum but plans are to switch to port injection later on with meth injection. Boot mounted surge tank. Full flex fuel setup. Stage 3 dsg cluch packs. Im chasing 700bhp. Its not a daily driven car mainly weekends and a bit of roll racing. Will he happy with a low 10sec 1/4 mile pass but im not to focused on drag times to be honest.
This video rocks can't wait to start modding my 2011 2.0 tfsi now!
Cheers!!
Great video.
i have the a 1.8t bam in my mk1 tt and a 2.0t bwa in my mk2 tt love both but the torque on the mk2 is savage, great vid mate now i need to find a cdl lump 😂
Ha yeah you've got some good ones there pal. I love them both
Really informative video :) keep it up!
Thanks
Just brought a tfsi Passat this has really helped
🙏👍👍
very very interesting. Thank you!
Nice job, I have the mk6 golf R.
Well interesting, enjoyed that. Can you go in to a bit detail re common rail and multipoint injection? Believe my MY19 S3 went to common rail vs the earlier ones being Multi? Was told common rail caused a bit more carbon build up. Thanks to WLTP ☹️
Great video pal 👍🏼
Cheers 👍
Very informative. Thanks
Merci pour toutes ces informations très intéréssantes.
good lesson. thank you
I love these explication videos! It’s like being back in your home garage!! 😁 where’s spencer?
This is now my garage 🤣🙈. Spence does his own thing these days.

Very knowledgeable awesome to learn more about engines🔥
Cheers, hope you enjoy more 🔥
Awesome video 👍👍

Surprised you weren't a tech mate. The knowledge is amazing 😜.
Can't wait to see it.
All the best with it bud.
I was mate... but when we going through basic I decided to be an operator and be in the troops. Didn't want to sit in a bo fixing cables for my forces career 😉
@@DecimalTenths was gonna say you were one of us. ;-)
Love watching your vids mate. Looking FWD to the new builds on the new engine.
So what's the difference between the TFSI and the TSI?
I have 2015 a4 sline tfsi with med 17.1 and I'm using hp tuners , my question is does any one know how to convince them that it has exhaust variable valve lift and not intake .
Hi,very informative video, really interesting, you definitely know you stuff. I'm looking to buy a Audi s line 1.4 ftsi 2014 it has 18000 miles.
Is there anything I need to look out for on this
engine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 😊👍
I was just taken to school. It was interesting, you sound like tutor white board an all. Good vid
🤣 cheers pal
Been waiting for a new vid am gonna have to get my self up to yours nick need my map sorting
Of course pal
Great video, Do you have many people that come in with the mk5 golf gtis and get the engine changed to the cdl? Looking at doing the ko4 conversion, but just wondering as that engine sounds like it will manage what i want on stock internals.
Hi yes the stock engine will handle a k04 no problem. No need for a CDL
Legend 👍🏻
Nicely done. i don't understand one thing about tfsi i have audi a6 c6 2.0 tfsi and its 170 hps and for example vw passat 2.0 tfsi is 200 hps or golf or any other what's the difference and why.
It has a BPJ? The most basic of the EA113 engines. Small turbo and mapping separates it from the BWA of the mk5 GTI.
Cracking video. I almost understand.....almost 😂
Same...😝
Cheers very interesting
I think so too...😁
I like the thinking of the future engine for the mk5, i did a build last year of cdl block, byd piston/rods/head, k04 with anti surge core bla bla +++ 🤣
Good choice dude. It will be perfect in our track car 🔥
speak to Turbo Direct in South Africa for a good bolt on turbo for the CDL that will outdo the standard KO4-64
We will be doing it here 😁
My 2007 North American K03 tFSI is engine code is BPY. I'd like to know more about whether it's genuinely stratifying during combustion and what data you'd use to uncover that. I don't have much experience with tuning and have the engine in relatively stock form, but dream of stage 2+-+-+ mods and performance. Thanks for your insight on the Mk5 GTI; it's been a joy for me to operate mine for the last six+- years. Cheers!
Your car will not work in stratified mode as it is an early TFSI engine. It is homogenous only 🙈
@@DecimalTenths Shame in the name. TFI is more like it!
Is the BPY engine one of the stronger blocks though??
Since you can use the tfsi crank in the 1.8t,can you also use the cdl rods for a budget build?
They are 144mm just like 1.8t rods, so could be used... however they have a different wrist pin size so custom pistons would be needed. Sadly it would be that much work it would make more sense to just use forged rods.
Helllo Great stuff👍
Why thankyou 👍👍
Hi that is very interesting on that engine. I wanted to ask you if you have had and 18t break it's cam pulley. I broke my one and it's bent all the valves.
Hi pal,
I've seen a cam pulley bolt failure which had the same affect. Not seen an actual pulley fail though.
@@DecimalTenths Hi the cam pulley notch broke off the pulley. I don't know why. Thanks for the reply much appreciated.
Hi, I have a 2014 Vw cc 2.0T TSI, i wanna swap it with Audi A4 2.0T TFSI engine. I wanna know if its plug and play or I need to make come modifications to the wiring or ECU?
Yes loom modifications will be needed 👍
Nick Urwin, Specialist subject TFSI engines.
Sure Mastermind is calling mate 🤣
I'd fail at general knowledge though mate 🙈
Hi good video. Can u do a video on a mk1 seat leon cupra r 1 day .maybe a maping or just working on 1 as i see you have them in your shop a lot of the time.thanks.
We do see a lot of them. See what I can do
@@DecimalTenths thanks that would be good. 👌
So will the 2008 TFSI/BPY engine (US Spec) in the Mk5 work in stratified mode?
Nope 🙈
if only i had someone with that type of knowledge to work on my golf down south
Love your knowledge and experience of these engines!
Love the Bids too! 👍
Have you ever thought that the VAG Group will run outta letters of the Alphabet eventually, naming their engines, and will eventually start to use the Greek Alphabet after a while?
Just a thought?
God, I’m so old school feeling left well behind!
Just don’t have the Minerals to keep up these days!
Loving being Schooled by the way! 😉🤫
Vids, I meant!
Big fingers! lol!
Cheers man. Hmm yeah they love their letter names don't they. But I love a TTTTFFFFSSSSSIII haha.
@@DecimalTenths can’t beat that sound! 😎👍
You can’t beat a Strocka Motah though!
😎💪👍
Maybe stupid question but is the ignition coils on TFSI producing stronger /better spark then the one from TSI ?
Many thanks
No not in our experience, they're the same potential 👌
@@DecimalTenths many thanks buddy 👌
Videos are just getting better and better. Becoming a real professional in front of the lens. Keep it up mate.
Cheers pal 😉👍👍
Why hasn’t anyone bolted one up to a Mazda MX5, BMW ZF or Borg Warner T-56 or Tremec transmission and stuck it in an MGB or a 1932 Ford yet?
Is tfsi n tsi engines same? Ive got a 2008 a3 1.8 tfsi but the engines gone so i found a engine but from passat 1.8 tsi, you reckon they would fit fine?
TFSI is an Audi brand name. So the same engine in a vw would be called a TSI. Best to check engine codes to confirm they're the same.
@@DecimalTenths the both share same engine code, both are bzb, but i was just worried is they are different
so maybe a tfsi in a mk1 leon /golf mk4 could be a good cheap ish mod ?
Could be cheap pal, but could be expensive depending on the finish you choose
Motors in Volkswagen, Skoda i Seat are assigned TSI (ang. Turbo Stratified Injection), whereas the same motos in Audi cars are TFSI (Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection),
Simply?
Yes Audi carries the TFSI brand name on, whereas the rest use TSI.
Cracking video , maybe an upgrade to a gen 3 lump👍🇬🇧🚀
Keep that for another car...😉 EA113 all the way with this one 🔥
@@DecimalTenths all the running gear from the mk7 r into a polo or similar 🚀
Would that be the same on a tsi engine ? Nick
All depends on the year really pal.
EA888.1 engines only had GDI but had cull cam chain no belt.
EA888.3 engines are the ones with both MPI and GDI injectors and full cam chain.
Vag called the TSI engines TSI but Audi still call them TFSI which can be confusing.
Mine says on top "FSI". I guess it qualifies as TFSI. Most people seem to apply TFSI to TSI engines though. whatever. Make more videos. Make more FSI stuff. Idon't care about what content you do, I have learned more from a couple of your videos than from many other from everyone else.
🤣. Cheers ill continue 👌
I wonder how much I can push the motor in stock form with a bigger turbo. And keep it safe lol
Hey Ronnie. Weve done a few hybrid Mk6Rs with 400+. One of them had 430bhp. I'd suggest 430-440bhp with 400-430ftlbs is safe on a CDL motor.
@@DecimalTenths thanks for the quit response. You’ve help me a lot.
What is ur opinion of the CAEB engine?
CAEB is an EA888 engine and whilst audi call them TFSI, they are a generation of the TSI engines. They aren't known for being great. I've rebuilt a version of these engines on the channel in the scirocco. 😬
Bet you can’t wait to get mine on the dyno lol
The big question is tho could I stick a tfsi engine in say a 9n3 GTi polo
You could fit the turbo on the 1.8. but with enough time and money the tfsi would go in I'm sure.
Yeah they've been put in lots of cars, so it is possible
Nice Man +++++-+
Cheers ++++-+
What happened to the FSI engine
The scirocco? It went in to get a K04 fitted, but I don't see the owner these days.
love it...... BUT still no ford's though buddy.. LOL

My b8 pisses me off everything time I see the plastic-ass manifold. The 1.8t is infinitely less infuriating.
We do them all the time so we're used to it 😬
Tufusie?
TuFuFuFuFSie...🤣
Think I just got about got my head around all that 🤔 im scared now because its your fault iv a forged s3 stage 3++++ 🤣 from your 1.8t lessens. My s3 8v is unmolested at this point 💸💸💸 😂
Haha not my fault mate ..😝😝
Haha not my fault mate ..😝😝
@@DecimalTenths I had to watch that again it great to get a full insight into the differences the fuel pressure though thats insane! Great to have you back on you tube mate
As someone who has a EA113 225hp BAM 1.8t and 252hp EA888 Gen3b CYRB.. The newer engines are so much better.
Veru agreed 👍
Badger 5
clever clogs
Supposedly...😝
Just for people who still don't understand after watching this video. TFSI is very fuel efficient under 3000rpm :)
Nooooo dont put your car in wall again😂
Hope I don't...🤣
Totally fucking stupid idea... Hahaha i can never unknown that now haha well done
That's a fsi on the sand
TFSI...😜
Um 🤔umbrella maybe
Huh...?
What the fuck is he saying lol. Bro is just leaving letters out of words and not finishing saying half the words that come out of his mouth.
