Hurricane Sandy destroyed the boardwalk, once they rebuilt it, it caught on fire, once they rebuild it again, there's probably gonna be another hurricane.
I go to the jersey shore every year it's a family routine for our hole family. Cousins, uncles, aunts and we are going next week. But a few years ago maybe in 2014 I was in the ocean and I stepped on a piece of metal and I picked it up and it was a piece of the jet roller coaster and when I stepped on it I had to sadly get 5 stitches in my foot. But when I took the piece of metal out it was like 30 pounds and it was a huge chunk of the roller coaster thing that you sit in and it had half of the mouth on it!!! It was really cool!! And I still have the chunk in my room
I live about 1/2 mile from the Rt 37 bridge going into Seaside. My neighborhood was spared. I only lost power for about two hours during the storm. Go 1 mile in any direction from my house and it was hell on earth. It was so surreal. I remember feeling guilty knowing my house was fine, but all of my local neighborhoods around me were not.
I am almost 60 yers old and I have been in 12 hurricanes, including Ike and Rita when I worked in Texas. I was in Beaumont for both. I dont want to be in another hurricane. I have lived in south Louisiana for most of my life and I feel that this is enough. We have always rebuilt time and time again. All of our neighbors suffer and yes we do help each other here. I am Cajun and I was told once that your struggles make you stronger. Well I have struggled enough. It is very hard to go through a hurricane or any natural disaster and just watch everything you and your neighbors have worked for all of your life just go right down the drain. Sitting through some 145 mph winds can put a whole new outlook on life and can also change a person forever. In one town in southeast Texas, there werequiet a few people that took refuge in a church. After the hurricane the church was a clean slab of concrete. Nothing left . Not even a pew. Thse people were never found. I hauled drinking water to victims of hurricane Katrina and where I pulled up with the truck and trailer , there was a dead body floating not far away. People here live here by choice not because they have to. Where I live in south Louisiana there is virtually little to no crime rate because in each town almost every body knows every body else. We work together. It doesn't matter what color you are. We all have the same blood in our veins. This is the best place to live in the United States of America. You should always remember......there is nothing as strong as the strength of a family. MOst of us have the ability to live off of the land no matter what the economy does. The plates on our table will never be empty. We are Cajun by choice. C. Thibodeaux
We are heartbroken here at the shore but Jerseyans are a tough lot and we will rebuild and renew. Thank you to all of the wonderful people who have given from their hearts, especially to the volunteer firemen, coast guard, JCPL workers and people from all over the country who have come to help. All of our memories will be rewarded when we come back to life here at the shore.
He is blessed to have grown up there. I've always loved the jersey shore. Wildwood was where my family always went. We spent summers there when I was growing up and I never wanted to leave. I still go down with my children and I still love it and hate to leave. It's my favorite place and if I could live there I would. The atmosphere is like no other, the beaches, boardwalk, doo wop motels! I love everything about it. I sleep like a baby down there too! That air is amazing.
I know, it's really sad. I used to go to Seaside a lot during 2007-2012, but after Sandy hit...it was rebuilt and I was so happy and was ready to go on the rides again but it burned down. The good thing is that Seaside was finally rebuilt fully again.
We've been hit by hurricanes before but Sandy was really rough on us. New Jersey was a disaster zone, Sandy broke our backs and losing a lot of the boardwalk attractions broke our spirit. I lost power for a week after Sandy, it was horrible. We never had a storm that big and the shore wasn't prepared for it.
+Beckonor We don't get hurricanes of the sort like Sandy and Irene every year....these were monumental. If they were frequent, it would be a different story, but if you notice in the 150 years of operation, it was only Sandy that knocked it down. No need for sarcasm, when you don't think it through, Beck
What a sad sad tragedy to have lost such an important part of American Landmarks. I am from the south and have never had the privelege of seeing NJ. I look forward to when I am to go. When I do, I know it will be an amazing place that lives up to all the wonderful stories I've heard all my life. You will be back! Better than ever, with your chest out and shoulders back standing tall and proud.
During Sandy, I was 5 and was crying all night hoping that I would survive another day, I didn't sleep that night, Sunrise came and when I looked outside at my front yard, trees were knocked down and the downstairs was flooded, my grandma's room was flooded and she had to sleep upstairs for another 3 weeks. My older sister was asking my dad "Is Six Flags still standing" I remember that night. I remember hoping Six Flags was still standing, we waited 2 weeks before we drove to six flags, it was ok. I'm here now 7 years later horrified to when the next hurricane will hit, wondering if I will still have my chickens, birds, house, and Six Flags. Thank God I don't live in Florida where most hurricanes are, I love it here in New Jersey. I hope the next hurricane won't affect my life.
Wumbo Time! Yay someone who is from 2019, and ikr I remember this storm. I was so scared, it was my first hurricane. It’s crazy that this rollercoaster was in the waters during the time. Hopefully everyone in Florida is doing well, and hopefully NJ or NY does not get a hurricane, hopefully every state is fine.
... 2:56 ... That was "The Wild Mouse", which was located out on the right-hand side corner of Seaside Heights' huge pier. It was my absolute favorite ride in the 60"s. When I first saw footage of Sandy's damage to it, I just went completely numb. A number of months later, I just happened to be watching a UK docu about Brighton. They have a huge amusement park pier there, too ... and out there on the right hand corner of their pier was a quick shot of "The Crazy Mouse"-- *exact same ride* except for the minor name change. And then it finally hit me full force; I just broke down and cried harder than I have since I can remember. That eternally happy little kid in me, from all those magickal summer nights so long ago, reached across the years to grab me, and hug me so very hard out of sheer shock, pain and loss. And we faced it together. That night, I had the most incredibly real dream about that demented mechanically animated "Crazy Laughing Lady" who used to stand in front of the haunted house ride, which was located a stone's throw from The Wild Mouse. I used to stand in front of her and laugh along with her; all us kids did back then Her ratty straw hat and pocketbook, the fright wig and baggy polka-dot dress. Who knows where that damned storm took her ... but as long as even one of us eternal kids is still alive, she'll live on, too. I was born and raised in East Orange, Noo Joisey, just over an hour's drive from where we summered in Lavallette. My aunt had a modest bungalow close to the West Point Island bridge, under which I used to fish for baby flounder, "snappers" (baby bluefish) and crabs. I've never had better seafood in my entire life ... and that includes those gourmet prawns I had in the top floor restaurant in the Cairo Hilton, overlooking the river Nile. I must admit it, though ... the Pyramids *did* have something of an edge over Lucy :)))
This is what is New Jersey people have to worry about. I am literally 20 minutes away from the boardwalk. I’ve been there once since I’ve only lived her for 3 months
ive lived in ocean county my entire life and would go to seaside boardwalk on a weekly basis in the summer. it had a kitschy, fun and charming appeal. after sandy and then the fire at the south end of the boardwalk it has never been the same.
We were in the process of buying our retirement home here just 5 weeks before the hurricane Sandy came through, destroying the home we were about to put money down on! I'm glad we didn't and come to find out the current owner had just dropped the insurance on it because it just came due and he was thinking he'd save a few bucks! We moved to garden city beach south Carolina instead..
Still have the memories of Seaside Heights and the Atlantic City Steel Pier. Actually watched the girl jump on the diving horse. Toms River probably looks completely different from when I was a kid there in the 1960s. Southern Jersey was a great place to grow up. Hope they rebuild.
im 6 blocks from it,we made it out with almost no damage but 10 minutes down the street in belmar they were hit hard, living on the beach doesn't mean youll have a hard time,it just means some places are more prepared then others
they are saying theyre going to be open for this summer, but some places on the boardwalk are already open, along with some resturants and shops right off the boardwalk. they recently officially started rebuilding, maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago.
Can I remind you this was only a CATEGORY 2 hurricane (a little girl compared to Andrew,Gustav, and Katrina), and Seaside Heights was really the only place that received permanent damage. Besides, at the end of the video, they said the New Jersey coast resorts will be rebuilt.
it will be seaside again peoples safety comfort and well being always come first but like someone else said you do not know seaside unless you have been there i am from pa and we go here in the winter and spring when no one else is around and it is wonderful a different place pain in our hearts going to so miss the view god bless this seaside town is so small but has a big heart you are supported!!!!! in so many ways!!!! love you
I don't live in your country, but I do recall watching a news program in my country that stated our government offered help to the stricken states but were turned down. Your government doesn't like receiving help from outside it's borders.
It use to be so beautiful, when I was a kid, I couldn’t wait to go to the shore, it was special… now you have group of teens making the shore a bad experience and an uncomfortable time to enjoy..
I can't believe Casino Pier is gone :( Being from NJ our family has been going to seaside for generations. We were supposed to go to seaside for Easter 2013... a family tradition. Thankfully we were there this summer. I hope they can rebuild so we can create new memories.
I'm just glad that my Father inlaw moved out of there before any of those Hurricanes even came me and soon to be wife have no place no live so we are moving from house to house until we can aford a new place and replace so of the many things we lost I'm From Staten Island I wish that I could help in any way I have had happy time out there in Seaside hights
My grandfather and cousin lived down here and there houses where in the ocean and I was there that day. Were lucky that is built even better and I hope nothing like this will happen again.
I was here two weeks ago, sad and just simply surreal. Not sure if everything will be open by Summer - the shops. Some are open actually. The Casino, Funtown Piers (They still have to be completely removed) But the progress since the 5th has been VERY impressive, the new deeper boardwalk pilons are being replaced. As of yesterday the new planks creating the boardwalk are coming back. Well ahead of schedule! It will still take a while for everything to come back...but it will. No doubt.
Crazy to see these news reports about Sandy, most of us here in NJ had no power for 5 days - 2 weeks and really didn't know all the damage it did. Sure word of mouth helped, but even cell service was hard to get. I'm 15 miles west from the shore and the storm took down my apple tree, but somehow it's still alive and tries to grow apples still. It's not even standing but still going strong
The loss isnt about the amusement park. Those seaside towns THRIVE on those places. The people from those towns learn about life, love, fun, sadness, gain and loss from the lessons in one simple summer. So before anyone thinks that this is about a "friggin amusment park" SHUT THE HELL UP.
AGREED! Us Americans are always the first to help, but I don't believe we've ever seen a check for Katrina or Sandy or any other natural disaster that we've suffered through. Seems like a one-way street to me.
Thanks for the comment Kristen. People think we Jerseans are all like the people on "Jersey Shore". The people on that show are all scum. Hell not one of them is even from New Jersey. At least the show is over for good. I spent a lot of time on that boardwalk for many years. And was a contractor for Mike Brown who owned one of the amusement piers there with the log flume.
I’m happy because ocean city NJ boardwalk survived sandy they were smart build amusement parks away from the ocean, what a stupid idea that was seaside heights but our dunes in Ocean City NJ were gone but they did there job
What surprises me is how many American's are upset by their loss of "stuff". In almost all the media I see people sad to loose their belongings. People should be thankful it wasn't like the Tsunami in Japan that sucked entire villages and families out to sea. People get so histrionic and melodramatic in the US. Yes it sucks, but if you're insured, you'll get some of it back. Americans gets shocked when disasters that happen all over the world to other nations happen to them.
it wasnt a dump. I have lived on the Jersey Shore my whole life and not everyone that lives here is like the people on Jersey Shore. Please dont talk about our home when you know nothing about it.
You're so profound. Newsflash - people don't vacation in the middle of nowhere. You can't go swimming in the desert or the prairie. The coast has been the life blood of civilizations since the dawn of time and will continue to be. New building technologies allow us to withstand the weather. Unfortunately the older structures didn't make it and it causes issues but life will go on. We will rebuild and endure. No need to insult a long lasting trend of human society.
It's so dramatic, like they seriously thought a boardwalk would not be put up to replace it? I live here, I knew it would take a while to rebuild and it wouldn't be exactly the same but in no way did anyone think "boardwalk" would only be a memory.
I live right over there. So is it true people think we're idiots like the people on the Jersey Shore? Cuz um.. Most of them aren't even from NJ so, stop judging us. Please
You know what just because of the show the Jersey Shore everyone got us Jersey people all wrong. Believe me many people didn't want that show on tv for a reason. Yes I know god did this for a reason..... and just imaging losing a place you love.... how would you feel if it was gone in a blink of an eye. You probably wouldn't have even commented that if that awfully fake show was never broadcasted in the first place
Before sandy when the winds were not that bad my mom and I stood on the sidewalk and it was so weird seeing Seaside empty. After sandy my mom and I went back we saw everything in the water and houses were even in the water too. It was kinda sad to see.
The coast has been the lifeblood of human civilization since the dawn of time. Bad things happen and we rebuild. We develop better technologies and sustain. Its unfortunate that the older structures didn't make it - but it will come back. Your choice not to invest a dime, but theres a lot of fun and money to be had over there. Have fun with your boardwalk in the middle of the Kansas prairie...
I think I implied that when I said they should be thankful it wasn't like Japan, (if you took the time to read what I wrote). Sorry for the loss of your Grampa, but I was commenting on the news story, not your Grampa.
well its not even really about that. its about a very iconic and memorable location being destroyed. this is just a side story, if you really pay attention to the news you will find more stories about rescues and power outage up and down the east coast. there is no need to be narrow minded.
Yes i do know that you didn't speak of it but did you really think we always did all of that crap before the show....and I do not think at all that in my soul that that is how we really are....we are no different than anyone else. And what would even make you presume that I have a guilty conscience
Some will not agree with me and I understand but that which was utterly destroyed should not be built back. I tell ya why cause the scary part about this storm is that it was barely a cat. 1. If all that property could not take a cat. 1 then how much more could not take a cat. 2. We should prepare for a cat. 4 or 5 in the future next yr. or three yrs., its not a matter of if but when. This means some serious engineering for the vunerable NY. NJ. shore line.
hey at least wildwood and atlantic city are fine maybe not atlantic city because they are in debt and their water show is gone too but they have that cowboy casino with amazing hotels and restaurants
Hurricane Sandy destroyed the boardwalk, once they rebuilt it, it caught on fire, once they rebuild it again, there's probably gonna be another hurricane.
Seaside is in better condition and has half the boardwalk. Point Pleasant has been fully recovered for 2 or 3 years (go there all the time).
Matthew looks like and it going be worse if GFS is right.
JPMorganSuckBigBalls I don't think so. In the area we are it should not hit as bad as some places like cuba.
[Official] UNGames You'll be surprised
JPMorganSuckBigBalls listen. I am not saying it won't come. It is very possible. but you have to think positive, but also be prepared.
When I see 2020, I think of the year!!
It’s Kenz ! 2020 isn’t worth living 😭
very early with this comment 😂😂
I’m 15 now, 9 when this storm hit. It’s insane now realizing just how bad the effect of this storm was.
I was 3-2 when it happened i had no clue what was happening I just knew it was scary
Same I was 8 in Jersey while it happened tho but its crazy I never knew it was this bad. Our whole street was flooded tho
I know I was 5 when it happened and I remember taping up my windows
I was 2
What ended up happening after this? I saw this while looking up my boardwalk, I'm from Santa Cruz
I go to the jersey shore every year it's a family routine for our hole family. Cousins, uncles, aunts and we are going next week. Whose bright idea was it to build a roller coaster near the damn ocean? Of course it was going to get blown away by a hurricane one day.

man this sucks, i went here last year for the first time and it was awesome.. i really hope they rebuild it soon

At least the show is over for good. I spent a lot of time on that boardwalk for many years. And was a contractor for Mike Brown who owned one of the amusement piers there with the log flume.
so cool !~ how did they get me playing ski ball ?????
yeah except when disasters happen around the world we help those affected but when it happens to us no one helps out. But that's just the way it is
I’m happy because ocean city NJ boardwalk survived sandy they were smart build amusement parks away from the ocean, what a stupid idea that was seaside heights but our dunes in Ocean City NJ were gone but they did there job
Americans gets shocked when disasters that happen all over the world to other nations happen to them.
he was never dropped in the ocean..
hes still alive in america.
they keeping him alive.
it wasnt a dump. I have lived on the Jersey Shore my whole life and not everyone that lives here is like the people on Jersey Shore. Please dont talk about our home when you know nothing about it.
It's amazing how they rebuilt it, though I do miss hiw far it went over the ocean.
How sad that you are filled with joy over millions of peoples misfortune.
The pier is back in full force ripping off tourists like never before.
Joe FromTomsRiver its not the point. To see something you worked hard for with blood and tears to just go to ruin can leave a big impact
It's been at least 9 years for me...and I live fairly closer than I did as a child...it just breaks my heart
RIP MY FAVORATE RIDE DX!!!!!!!!
It's still here in 2019
2020
It’s not as far in the ocean no more 😤
Most people evacuated. Don't really get your point? This wasn't Katrina. People in NJ left.
MY Uncle Peter Lived in seaside I feel bad for him he went to my house thank u god for making some people safe
I live right over there. So is it true people think we're idiots like the people on the Jersey Shore? Cuz um.. Most of them aren't even from NJ so, stop judging us. Please
I’m 22 and I was 12, and i still remember school being canceled for some days
I have been there many times over the years and to this day we are still recovering from Sandy
Didn't realize how bad it was until watching footage.
You know what just because of the show the Jersey Shore everyone got us Jersey people all wrong. Believe me many people didn't want that show on tv for a reason. Yes I know god did this for a reason..... and just imaging losing a place you love.... how would you feel if it was gone in a blink of an eye. You probably wouldn't have even commented that if that awfully fake show was never broadcasted in the first place
the town is doomed!!..i lived here in 00-01 and it was a great time!
Before sandy when the winds were not that bad my mom and I stood on the sidewalk and it was so weird seeing Seaside empty. After sandy my mom and I went back we saw everything in the water and houses were even in the water too. It was kinda sad to see.
Fun Spot now has an exact replica of the infamous Hurricane Sandy rollercoaster.
This is not a tragedy, this is cause and effect. Live on the beach and not evacuate, your gonna have a bad time.
I miss it already!! it wasnt the same this summer :( GOOD BYE SEASIDE
Have fun with your boardwalk in the middle of the Kansas prairie...
i used to love that ride that ended up in the water
u dont even know what i look like and u dont even know if i have a job or not.
good job in making jersey look good.
it actually stopped dead in its tracks and went the opposite way it was scared on what it would catch^^
Whether by weather or elite agenda, THE GOOD TIMES ARE OVER
I think I implied that when I said they should be thankful it wasn't like Japan, (if you took the time to read what I wrote). Sorry for the loss of your Grampa, but I was commenting on the news story, not your Grampa.
4 years later better then ever
well its not even really about that. its about a very iconic and memorable location being destroyed. this is just a side story, if you really pay attention to the news you will find more stories about rescues and power outage up and down the east coast. there is no need to be narrow minded.
hell NO Jersey ROCKS!!
well NORTH JERSEY that is! LOL
The Jersey Shore cast isn't actually from New Jersey, so no, unfortunately they're all fine.
There's no reason to be disrespectful.
very sad, hope to see all damaged places on the east coast rebuilt soon
Hurricane sandy was a bad day. I chilled making a blanket.
(P.s. this is the little girl)
It's obvious you are not from New Jersey to understand what this place was about.
Yes i do know that you didn't speak of it but did you really think we always did all of that crap before the show....and I do not think at all that in my soul that that is how we really are....we are no different than anyone else. And what would even make you presume that I have a guilty conscience
so are they saying they need the boardwalk in their life to have meaning??
Can someone please tell me how long it will take too rebuild,if they are rebuilding it I would be very grateful thank you
Storm washed away not only Ferries Wheel but also Memory of Ferries Wheel...
New things dont bring back memories man
Some will not agree with me and I understand but that which was utterly destroyed should not be built back. NJ. shore line.
WOW...
ABC News REALLY does their homework...
Tom Waits wrote "Jersey Girl," not Bruce.
When GTA is real😂:
ofc it's a fortnite kid using a laughing emoji
anyways thats based off of the santa monica pier
bruh
@@TAMAKOU122 bruh
Asbury Park New Jersey is great again. Silverball Pinball Museum is fantastic.
I loved that candy shop on the boardwalk when I was a kid. White chocolate by the pound. Mmmmm
this is really sad but they will rebuild it no matter what and i hope the do so everyone who lives the in the shore can continue there memories
At least there's no more jersey shore.
hey at least wildwood and atlantic city are fine
maybe not atlantic city because they are in debt and their water show is gone too but they have that cowboy casino with amazing hotels and restaurants
