Some of these comments really piss me off, saying "oh well there were many worse storms! Stop overreacting" So what? A hurricane is a hurricane and if it effects people, why try and argue that? I know this happened back in 2012 but I lost my house and everything I owned. So for the people saying there were way worse, maybe you are right, but that doesn't take away from how horrible it was for the people who experienced it.
I was in 2nd grade when this happened (I'm from Brooklyn, New york) and I remember my mother recently had my little sister and the power went out, Thank god we lived on the 5th floor but when my mom with my sis in her arms me and some neighbors went through the staircase the whole entire 1st floor was flooded to the ceiling! What scared me most that there was a baby on the 1st floor.... there was this disabled old lady like 2 apartments away from us and me and my mom brought her candles which made me feel a bit better.. also we had a balcony so I just walked out and I experienced probably the scariest moment in my life.. the streets were like a river and some people had to go outside and it was really sad. Alot of homes were ruined and we lived near the beach (10 mins away) I remember me watching the news [fox 5 ] and in a split second the tv turned off and the room went black. Anyways for me the experience wasn't as tragic but it did traumatize me and now I'm scared of irma '-' anyways pece and I hope y'all in Florida stay safe:)💕
Just watching this in 2017 brings tears of sadness. I live in the areas hardest hit on the NJ shore and life will never be the same again. It's so very hard to watch this having lost friends during this tragedy.
Yea. I feel you. I live two towns over from the hard hit area of union beach. My friend lives extremely close to the water in that town and evacuated to his families house in inland Mercer county a day before the storm. He had three dogs but couldn’t evacuate with them since the only had a small sedan that barely fit their family. They had the dogs in the second story with plenty of food and water. He wanted me to get to his house and refill the dog’s water and food and to let him know of the water damage to the house when the surge finally subsided and local law enforcement let people enter his neighborhood. When I finally got to his house I had to make the hardest and most painful call if my life. His house was leveled and his dogs didn’t make it. That moment will forever haunt me until the day I die.
My town was hit hard when this happened. The most distinctive thing I remember was when everyone lost power, and it was just darkness for miles. No town within a 50 mile radius had their lights, and people couldn’t drive due to all the trees and wires, so there was just nothing. I had never seen NJ so dark
I lived in NY and could not go trick or treating for 2 years straight because of the storm and a blizzard. I lived pretty inland, so I thought it was so cool and fun, but now I realize how selfish I was being
Riya Attam I lived in a town a few miles out of NYC and my god was it scary. I was 8 or 9 at the time...I'm 13 now. I guess you could say I was lucky by living in an elevated house so I really wasn't hit as hard as I could have been.
Riya Attam It ok dude, when your younger you just can't grasp the impact of somwthing so horrible sometimes till you get older. I feel the same about 9/11. I lived in NY at the time and was in Elementry school and saw it all first hand out my school window. I had no idea what to think and was worried since the teachers were all crying and freaking out. They turned the tv on and were we're looking out the Windows. I'll never forget that sight it scared me to death. We were held in school till 9pm (I believe) and we really thought NY would be bombed. It was the most scared I had been as a kid. I had never seen my teachers so panicked and scared. Now at 26 I understand alot more of why the teacher were crying and why everyone was freaking out. Kids just don't get stuff sometimes lol
Fallon Duelly I have a house in Wildwood (summer house) I was six and my family went back to our house (not the summer house) and we where in PA and so my mom said it’s a tornado warning and I said a tomato and my mom said no a tornado. We were worried
I was only four when Sandy hit NJ. I just remember having a few days off of school and being sad bout that since it was Halloween and I wanted to show off my costume to my friends. I also remember that my grandma was the only person we knew who’s house still had power. After the storm hit, I remember going to her house almost every day for a week.
At the time Sandy hit, I had been staying with my Sister on the uws. For all the gales we hear and torrential rain, we never lost power once. Thankfully.
I live in New Jersey and we got it the worst. The beach was destroyed and some rides, buildings, and even a roller coaster was in the ocean. A week or so after the storm, we took a trip down to LBI to check out the damage and it was terrifying. About 2 or 3 years later I just went down to Island beach state park today and they STILL are re building a part of the board walk and a couple houses.
Lol back in 2004 Florida got walloped by 4 hurricanes in one season. My hometown got hit twice in the span of 3 weeks between Frances and Jeanne. We didn't have power for a month and no school either. Good times.
The north east is definitely not used to this. This definitely took us all by surprise, because it always usually turns out to sea. Now that it happened, we’ll NEVER forget.
It was so big that we had got it and we had no school and we thought we were not going to go trick or treating because the hurricane was over the day before hollowen
I"ll never forget this hurricane/super storm in NJ we didn't have power for two weeks was in complete darkness. Couldn't go trick or treating, had to charge our phones and lap tops at the mall which was super packed, gas lines was wrapped about the block. Super Sandy was a bad girl lol.
I was thirteen when Sandy hit. My memories of the event are hazy, but I remember losing power for a week or two and the river by my apartment complex rising several feet before flooding the parking lot. Pretty sure our local schools were canceled for upwards of a month after the storm, too. Nuts.
Oh gosh. I remember this absolute monster. I was 7 at the time and it was traumatizing to watch it unfold right smack on top of where I lived. I lost almost everything I loved and owned during those few devastating days, and it still haunts me till this day.
It took us longer than a week to get power back, and in all that time, gasoline was rationed, radios were used by batteries, generators were losing power, people died, lost jobs and still have no jobs. I had a job interview down the block and was cancelled. Animal shelter. Got destroyed by the water. People in homes still standing were sleeping in full clothes and heavy blankets with no heat. Food was hard to get, down the block a man was shot over a gallon of gasoline so he could get to work. This storm brought out the worst in people, and in the end we STILL helped out our neighbor no matter how bad things got. NYers stick together, stranger or friend. Best friend lost his house, soon as we got the okay to leave our homes the family asked me to help clear out the house. People in trucks were taking ovens and microwaves for free off the streets into a junkyard. Cleanup crews didnt arrive til 4 weeks after. Hardest 3 weeks ive had in my adulthood.
'NYers stick together' didn't you just say a man was shot over a gallon of gasoline?? Nah man i love the message you're saying and i know this was 2yrs ago
I was in 1st Grade at the time located on the mainland in NJ and I remember our power going out for a few days. One of the worst storms my community has ever faced. I live on the Jersey Shore, and thank god my house was located on the mainland instead of Long Beach Island(edit:because we were on the mainland, LBI took the brunt of it so we did not get flooded. But it still heavily hit me beccause I only live 5-10 minutes from the ocean and I cant even begin to imagine what it was like to be on the island when that happened) Even 10 years later, LBI is still rebuilding house and raising them.
I'd like to personally send out a thank you, to the people who came from around the country, to help all those on the NJ shore, and the mid Atlantic in general.
I was 14 when this hurricane occured. I live in Eastchester, NY. Fortunately my house was fine and we did not lose power in our house, but I did see the rain.
I can't believe there was no mention of Staten Island! Two families who are my cousins were trapped on their roof and needed a raft. Both lost their homes (Midland Beach). I had to evacuate from the Bay Shore area of NJ. No power, heat or hot water for 8 days. I'll never forget I slept wearing five turtleneck sweaters and used 9 blankets, including my dad's wool army blankets. One of those night was 20 degrees! I'm a much simpler person and appreciate things more now. Rushing around your home with an hour to evacuate after you get home from work changes you. I grabbed important papers, photos, my parents wedding portrait, made the sign of the cross and left. My condo survived. The two homes near me were condemned.
I live in New Jersey and I remember sandy. I was at 7/11 it was a few days after the storm power was out my area still had power in some areas a few guys from the power company came in everyone started thanking them for the service. That and the gas lines
Man, experiencing Sandy was a trip! Seeing trees get knocked over all around my neighborhood including 3 big trees in my yard. The winds were rediculous! Not having power for 8 - 9 days sucked hard. But the one thing that really makes me mad, was the fact that they actually CANCELLED Halloween! They tried to postpone it, but on the day they had scheduled for, it was deemed unsafe for kids to be out because of all the downed trees, powerlines, etc. I just felt really bad for all the little kids.
I live in NJ - thankfully not by the shore - and I was really scared. I was out of power for 8 days after the storm and after like the 6th day of no power, my family and I tried to find a hotel. The hotels were so packed we had to move to a new one every night for two nights in a row. Then the day we went home the power came back but the nor'easter hit and knocked it out again! After that, my place was more susceptible to having power outages. Not anymore, thank.
I remember when Irene was hyped up as being bad, but all my area got was some mild flooding. I like many was hoping Sandy would be similar but we all all dead wrong.
That was one scary storm. We lost power in my neighborhood for a week. I remember at the peak of the storm, I was looking out of my window in my living room and I told my husband that I was scared. The wind was so strong, it felt like my house was going to fall apart. It was like a end of world scene. I'll never forget...
285 deaths...... I was 4 when this happened, living in New Jersey hearing the winds raging on our windows. My mom was in India and it was only my brother, me and my dad. I still have the scar indirectly caused by Hurricane Sandy. #NeverForget
I remember it rained here in northern Maryland for like 2 weeks. All the rain turned our little hometown creek into a lake. Water in that creek rose over 7 feet. Crazy
So I was a baby when this happened so I don’t remember much but my family told me what happened and these were all the bad parts of it: First, one our trees got knocked down almost going into our house. Second, that our fence got ripped off and flew into the air. Stay Safe
The weather here in the United States is forever changing and people need to be ready for all kinds of Storms, Fires, Earthquakes, Rain and whatever else gets thrown at us.
I Remember this when I was in kindergarten I had my costume set I was going to be a 🍓 lol 😆 and Remember 2 days before the storm my mom telling us we where leaving to go to my grandmas in Florida so I went trick or treating in Florida not to bad
I was just 9 years old when it happened I live in NJ we got hit with Category 2 winds a tree hit our garage and 8 trees of ours went down we had to drive a hour just to get gas for our generators not going to lie. I was scared af.
I remember my 7 year old self wanted to go outside so I could "push back the wind". My mom stopped me then the power went out for days. At least my place wasnt flooded.
I remember this my power went out for about a week and I kept crying the rain was so strong and there was a lot of thunder and lightning. I remember my dad opened the front door when things had started to calm down and all you could hear were sirens it was very eerie. Luckily we didn’t have too much damage (to our house but I had a backyard with woods and trees fell down and there was flooding) but it was still so scary and the only hurricane I’ve been through
i live in bergen NJ and i remember on oct 31st right after sandy my dog got loose, and we had to run through the crazy strong winds and over broken powerlines to get him back. he couldve easily got hit by a car not paying attention or touched a down powerline and died. thankfully he was okay. one of the scariest moments for me, i was 9.
I am a survivor staying in my home when I was a little child but even for my dad it was terrifying when we drove in my dads car we saw at least 10 homes damaged and fallen to the group while my home was only a little damaged
9 years ago I got a cat we named Sandy for his coat. we discovered there was gonna be a hurricane named Sandy that same year. Then of course it hits our home state and becomes one of the worst U.S storms in history.
Hurricane Sandy was a difficult time, especially for New Jersey and New York. Me, when I looked outside after Sandy left, it was plain destruction and devastation, but where I am, in New York City, we are making a huge comeback and we're not letting anything stop us New Yorkers!
So it changed from 2 to 5. Nice! I live in Florida and there are lots of hurricanes and tropical storms but that doesn't mean that these people went through nothing just because you were watching "doc my stuffins" and you were 4 which is somehow supposed to prove your point. In Florida we went through hurricane Irma last month which I experienced cat 1 force winds the same winds as in New Jersey. Now there are a lot of factors like 1. I was inland so it didn't flood too much only about 2 inches 2. I am used to tropical storms and hurricanes but these people live in New Jersey and are not used to it plus I had it much better than these people during Irma. So my point is that just because you had it better than everyone else doesn't mean that other people were as fortunate.
Yeah? Well what guarantees you, You wont die? It brings People together? Hah! Yeah right, it breaks people apart. You don't know how these people feel. Yet you wish to make more people suffer? There are people like you who are to dumb to understand.
I'll never forget the sound of the wind, the tree branches (big and small) snaping and falling and the almost hour long flashes of light and booming of transformers exploding all around us. It was terrifying and I was scared to sleep that night. Sandy was the worst storm I've ever had to experience. I can't even imagine what they went through in Texas last week since it was much much worse then Sandy. Mother nature can be scary as heck.
I remember being outside and saying pretty much the same thing. Meanwhile, 150 yards down the street from me, the water level had risen so high, it tore peoples docks up and pushed them 70+ yards in and 15~ yards UP. If you watch my video you can see how high the swells were on the bay in Keyport. It just didn't have the rain power that Katrina had and thank Thor for that cause we really would have been fucked.
Actually, It doesn't matter what category the storm was. The fact that there was a full moon, and high tide when it hit made it worse then it seemed. The storm surge caused intense flooding, and that is what caused most of the damage. Coming from someone who lives down the street from the water, I suggest you do not try to mock the storm because it took over 20 lives, and you never know if a natural disaster could take your life, and everything you own away in just hours, so be careful!
it was horrible. i was lucky nothing happen to my house and i live near a beach and a lake. the power at my house just came back today at 7 pm. when it snow i seriously thought i was going to die of cold. it was freazing. i couldn't move my hand. oh god, it was soo bad. i almost cried when the power came back. i had never been soo happy on my life. so many people die here. i live in nj.
I remember, Winds not letting me sleep, My basement flooded taller than my 5 year old self, Streets flooded like the ocean, Trees fallen near my home, Halloween got delayed, School got canceled for 1 week, and many new kids came to my school. I’ll never forget.
Yea!! Where was the media coverage on Florida when we had FOUR hurricanes come thru in 2004?? Sorry, but as a Florida resident in 2004, I have NO pity on these folks from the Northeast. You gave us NO pity when we had our four hurricanes
I was in Hurricane Sandy, but luckily no extreme damage happened. I did lose power for 2 weeks but there were trees down everywheree. I feel so i lucky, but other parts of my town by the shore were destoyed. It was an experience, but the people here weren't too down about it, they kept a positive attitude saying "stupid sandy" as joke, and helped each other and it was a time where people could get close to their family and friends. NJ is tough and wont let a storm let us down RESTORE THE SHORE
My friend was in hurricane sandy... and I kind of feel guilty about not being born yet, not being able to experience it with her... but I’m also kind of glad I wasn’t born yet, being able to be safe. But the story she told me, was no one died, but when I watched this I had a few questions. It is now March 17, 2021. I want to learn how to prevent people from getting hurt in these things, especially in the case of a tornado. I also heard that a bomb exploded to, which is devastating. I hope no one is still recovering from there injuries, and they are all safe now.
@@robitdiazlook2066 When I wrote that message I think I was either 10 or 11? When I wrote that comment I was going back and fixing any grammar mistakes I made.
Thank you for this video my brother lost everything in his home. The shore was destroyed. Not just the shore..inland was hit. New York City, Phila. it was horrible.
Never forget, we were having our roof down that week and they had taken everything off all we had was a few tarps and cinder blocks to hold it down. We were about 60 miles north west. Let me tell you it was crazy, me and my father would go up every other hour to check and stablize everything to make sure nothing blew off. Crazy and scary times.
I was also in Sandy. My town lost power for two and a half weeks. My town is small and there is a tenakill and it flooded half the town. This was honestly so scary but we are JERSEY STRONG and we will restore the shore!
I will never forget the massive winds, it tore off my aluminum siding in Philly, no major damage, just that, took out my dogs for a walk after everything calmed down and half of NE Philly's lights were off, seen eerie orange lights in the sky, and a red glow, that was all,the energy of the storm that caused the eerie lights, I guess.
When Halloween was cancelled and people still went to your doorstep asking for candy after your house got flooded like bruh
💀💀💀💀💀
Ok those people are actually stupid.

I'm a much simpler person and appreciate things more now. Rushing around your home with an hour to evacuate after you get home from work changes you. I grabbed important papers, photos, my parents wedding portrait, made the sign of the cross and left. My condo survived. The two homes near me were condemned.
I remember this I was 4 huddled up in my basement with water up to my knees
I did not think this storm was going to happen.... But I so wrong!
I remember going trick-or-treating while the storm was hitting us XD
Can't believe this was a year ago...felt like yesterday I heard the roaring wind, had my power go out, and saw trees collapse. Damn.
"Go Home Sandy!"
You cannot control hurricanes who ever write that.
I remember where I was during that time
At my dads house
I remember the Howling winds and heavy rain fall
It was surreal
Sandy made Irene look like a light shower. I still remember this storm.
0:08 that picture really got to me. Imagine your entire house being underwater.
😔
Ye
Thank god in my community there was no disaster. I survive my first nature disater. I was there 4 years old.
285 deaths...... I was 4 when this happened, living in New Jersey hearing the winds raging on our windows. My mom was in India and it was only my brother, me and my dad. I still have the scar indirectly caused by Hurricane Sandy. #NeverForget
You have a good memory
Whose watching awhile hurricane Harvey is happening
Ryan king it's hurricane season
Md Karim meee hurricane Irma though
I lived threw Harvey
Md Karim Hurricane Florence for me
Seeing the places we grew up with as children getting completely wiped out was crazy It has been 8 years now and Its just weird to think about.
My Uncle's House was destroyed during Hurricane Sandy
no it wasnt.
Hurricane Sandy was a nice birthday present for me since my birthday is November 9th. 😌
I live in NJ and I remember seeing green lightning! I know Irma and Harvey are bad but no celebs donated money to us when this happened!
Actually there was the 12.12.12 benefit in December that year.
my grandpa died indirectly from sandy. rest in peace to him - 06.26.1951 to 11.04.2012
I Remember this when I was in kindergarten I had my costume set I was going to be a 🍓 lol 😆 and Remember 2 days before the storm my mom telling us we where leaving to go to my grandmas in Florida so I went trick or treating in Florida not to bad
I'm from NYC/LI and just watching this gave me goosebumps and flashbacks
I was just 9 years old when it happened I live in NJ we got hit with Category 2 winds a tree hit our garage and 8 trees of ours went down we had to drive a hour just to get gas for our generators not going to lie. I was scared af.
Sandy was the hurricane that ruined my shore house in New Jersey, these storms are so powerful it’s insane and really devastating.
Sending love prayers and thoughts
Wow i remember when we were hit with the hurricane here in NJ and i was soooooo scared 😂
@Liams Lexus Build do you have a brain?
Hurricane Sandy was a difficult time, especially for New Jersey and New York. Me, when I looked outside after Sandy left, it was plain destruction and devastation, but where I am, in New York City, we are making a huge comeback and we're not letting anything stop us New Yorkers!
YEAHH NEW YORKERS FTW
Guys I was in Sandy Superstorm hurricane I'm not lieing It had so much damage it was 2012 in New York It did so much damage I saw
Don't act like you were the only one who saw the damage. I still get chills......
SparklePro Girl get a life 7 year old you dont even know how to spell
Says the one with bad grammar.
SparklePro Girl thank god for my town and state it was only a tornado
I wish that we have such a storm like that in the Netherlands. That storm brings people really together.
Yeah? Well what guarantees you, You wont die? It brings People together? Hah! Yeah right, it breaks people apart. You don't know how these people feel. Yet you wish to make more people suffer? There are people like you who are to dumb to understand.
You guys are lucky your house didn't get destroyed you came off as lucky New Yorkers? Not so much. New Jersey? Not so much
Now we have hurricane Joaquin coming...
it's not supposed to hit the east coast
+JoeyN Got going to hit.
yay it didn't hit
+JoeyN *hurricane pass Netherlands* Goodbye loser
I HAVE COME FROM THE FUTURE TO WARN YOU ABOUT HURRICANE HERMINE
I'll never forget the sound of the wind, the tree branches (big and small) snaping and falling and the almost hour long flashes of light and booming of transformers exploding all around us. It was terrifying and I was scared to sleep that night. Sandy was the worst storm I've ever had to experience. I can't even imagine what they went through in Texas last week since it was much much worse then Sandy. Mother nature can be scary as heck.
Who's here in 2016
Meh
Meh
me like holy fudge man hurricane matthew tho
me
me
I remember being outside and saying pretty much the same thing.
Right! Sandy was a mere CAT 1 storm. We in Florida usually have CAT 2 or above storms. Charley was CAT 4. You have gotten off easy NYC/NJ
It strengthened to category 3 after merging with the nor'easter. It would have been a category 1 if it hadn't.
Thanks for supporting the facts Michelle j
Well, that's what I was told about it.
Sandy was in fact a CAT 1 Hurricane when it hit the Chesapeake/NJ area. Get your facts straight or prove me wrong!
Actually, It doesn't matter what category the storm was. The fact that there was a full moon, and high tide when it hit made it worse then it seemed. The storm surge caused intense flooding, and that is what caused most of the damage. Coming from someone who lives down the street from the water, I suggest you do not try to mock the storm because it took over 20 lives, and you never know if a natural disaster could take your life, and everything you own away in just hours, so be careful!
it was horrible. i was lucky nothing happen to my house and i live near a beach and a lake. the power at my house just came back today at 7 pm. when it snow i seriously thought i was going to die of cold. it was freazing. i couldn't move my hand. oh god, it was soo bad. i almost cried when the power came back. i had never been soo happy on my life. so many people die here. i live in nj.
i was pooping during this
Oh!
Nature has a way of responding. I take my hat off to all the men who made so much difference here.
i was in kindergarten when this happend
WHD Studios shut up
Me too
Me three
Hurricane Sandy was one of the most deadly things I have seen happen to my state
I survived hurricane sandy
I remember, Winds not letting me sleep, My basement flooded taller than my 5 year old self, Streets flooded like the ocean, Trees fallen near my home, Halloween got delayed, School got canceled for 1 week, and many new kids came to my school.
I’ll never forget.
I also remember dumb me wanting to go outside while there was 70 mph wind outside.
Yea!! Where was the media coverage on Florida when we had FOUR hurricanes come thru in 2004?? Sorry, but as a Florida resident in 2004, I have NO pity on these folks
from the Northeast. You gave us NO pity when we had our four hurricanes
I was living in wpb at that time
atiboyful no pity to someone like you for sure
I remember I was 6 when Sandy hit. We lost power for a week. Scariest thing of my life.
Congrats on 1 million subs.
Ellington, CT. 2012. Our house was almost hit by a tree, but we never lost power. Our neighbors weren't so lucky.
Watching people talk. Fascinating.
I remember trying to fly out of New York and my flight got delayed due to hurricane sandy. Crazy
it ended on my birthday. what a great present
As a kid I was shocked that storms like this could have an effect on somewhere up north from where I am Florida
I'll never forget this. Never.
I was in 3rd Grade when this happened. That’s the hurricane that took over my homestate!
Someone from NJ or NYC: Texas is dumb
Sandy: What did you just say?
Nice Vid. Thanks
Are you sure you're 10 years old? You write like an adult
I remember this. I had no school that week and I had to wait half a day to get gas.
I was in Florida when this happened. Never Forget.
